Great little set in an intimate environment. I've never seen Edgar Meyer live and have wanted to for a long time, so it was cool to see him so close. I certainly don't regret missing their show at the Herbst after seeing them in this environment.
They started a bit late but played for 45 minutes, which is typical for these in store appearances. They intro'd each piece, which all came from the new album, with the exception of the trio of Bach. They do have Bach on the album, just not this Bach. The banter was cute, Chris and Edgar play well of each other and if the music thing doesn't work out, they could always be a comedy duo
It was such a treat to seeing Edgar so close, he's not a 'hold down the low end' or 'bomb dropping' bass player, his playing is more delicate and nuanced, definitely more the recital player. Combined that will Thile's bluegrass roots and you've got gold! They make it seem natural but it is not like anything I've heard before. Edgar brings an etheral quality, while Thile is lightening fast, the combination of styles blends so organically, it's hard to deny the virtuosity of either player.
I picked up the new CD that came with a 'making of' DVD, can't wait to give it all a listen. Got it signed too...Yay Amoeba In-Stores!
Check out Edgar's solo Bach CD. . .
Bela Fleck's 'Perpetual Motion' disc is another great one too.
