Wish I was at the show.... just happened to get a phone call from my Sunday ticket, during the soundcheck & so I heard it in the background.
Tomorrow & Sunday.......
Won't be bringing a cell phone.... financially, it was cell phones *or* tickets this month (I haven't worked in a while). We're going with the tickets.
Never in a billion zillion years did I imagine that I'd be taking my *grown* children to anything like a dead show. It just didn't occur to me that there would still *be* a tour of GD members by the time my early 90's babies were old enough to be taller than me. What a world!

WTF? Someone actually never heard of FELLIN' ALRIGHT? Then another from the peanut gallery ID's it as a Cocker tune??? Nice save MSG Man (I do believe that was the first Traffic album and I think Mason only lasted through 2 anyway), but good golly Ms Molly; you folks don't know shit!

Wtf, not everyone knows every song on every Traffic album??? (FA was on the second album).
I even saw Mason do it from the Mt. Jam webcast and make special note that he wrote it, but when I think of that tune I think of Cocker. I usually don't think of Cocker all that much.
I'd rather think about Gladys Knight.
....still waiting for that Low Spark.
taper rob, where is the nokia video phone feed a la 12/9/09?
Shaping up for a great set list tomorrow.
Please do Terrapin Station on Saturday.
Show is light on Weir/Barlow...saving up for a Sailor>Saint? Is Bobby feelin alright or not feelin that good himself tonight?
Set over?
Looks like a fun night so far.
Stuff
that's what I thought! Belushi and Cocker!
Just got back. No Wharf Rat. Death Don't Have No Mercy and The Wheel after Time. Some amazing moments but overall a disjointed show. Bobby was not on his game during large chunks of the jamming, but sang and played incredibly on Death Don't. Left as the jam post Wheel was trainwrecking yet again. Beautiful beautiful scene. If you can ever catch a show there it's a great place for one. Hoping it gels better in Coney the next two nights.
My bad man...definitely have heard of the song before.. Just didn't think about it when I saw it on the setlist. Not exactly a Dead standard ya know. Flame away, I take my ridicule in stride, and with a smile..
thanks intoashes! was wheel the encore?

GREAT Show!!!
just got back, I gotta listen to the first set stranger again. For me, a great high energy, powerful, loud show. The highland was rocking, crowd was awesome, and Phil sees the passion of the fans around here. 1 week to herk-town..
just landed on left coast...fuckin incredible setlist. damn kids...never heard of traffic!!! winterland...1973 i think. winwood had 4 different strats on the stage and tore it up with every one of em...and the hammond...jeff reminds me of stevie when he gets that organ thing goin. cant wait to hear this one. wheres the feed...wheres the instant post on lma...come on my tapin brothers...whos gonna be the first to share the love. so wish i was there!!!!!!!
holygodamnfuckingshit!!!
Glad my hometown is being represented so well, fuck yeah. Phil and Bob both played great shows there the last two years - one of the best venues for a concert anywhere.
See you all in Herkimer! Who's gonna be the first to buy my jet-lagged ass a brew?
Wow that sounds like a great time...following from the World Cup in South Africa...excited to get back to the States for my shows!
Second set looks real fun!
Hey folks, show is up on archive.org
Get into it!!
http://www.archive.org/details/furthur2010-06-25.d pa.4023.flac16
wow that was quick!!! sounds great so far...
There are times where it is counter productive to nit pick a show and to point out that maybe this part could have been a little better. I was at the show last night and I had so much fun just dancing with my wife and my son and the "neighbors". Great songs, played well, great venue, great sound and great energy. It was sooooo much fun. My son even commented that people dont listen to the music at a dave matthews show (his favorite band) like they do at Dead related shows. That show last night was everything you can ask for. FUN FUN FUN
This was a GREAT show! I have 28 years of Dead shows to compare to and this one was one of the best.
Yes, the inter-song "jams" are always a bit awkward with this band and the pre-written setlists stymy the natural flow of some spntaneous jams (like when it really wanted to become "new speedway boogie" and instead was forced into "truckin"- but hey- who's complaining?).
I REALYY liked hearing Russo without Jaye Lane- Russo is a great drummer and was like a combo of '73 Billy and Molo. He was fantastic. Phil was spot on all night. Bobby was right there all night except a few times he was spacing out, looking down, and Phil was leaning over staring at him to give a cue to get to the next part- odd since Bobby was usually the one to cut a jam short...
John was really on all night and really ripped out some fine leads. I love the fact that they again have a guitarist who varies his tones almost as much as the fat man did- and it's a relief to not hear the same way-too-open envelope filter on every jam like when Haynes played with them.
Jeff- man- what can you say- the man brought it big time and really sent some jams and solos over the top. He fired up the rest of the boys in a big way several times. At one point Bobby was trying to direct traffic and pointed at Jeff, then, John, then Jeff- all at the same time- so both of them went off and it was beautiful.
The backup singers were great- but oddly were not on stage for Cosmic Charlie and were very much missed on that tune. The new guy (name?) took lead vox on Time and nailed it very nicely. The only real vocal nightmare all night was unfortunately on Attics. The soundaman could've helped out some by putting the entire vox subgroup through a chorus or flanger like they did in the '90's but he didn't. Speaking of sound though- it was HUGE and crystal clear. By half-way through Stranger you could feel it coming together powerfully and the second set was in rock god mode and the setlist only helped in that regard.
The setlist was like a dream for me. i finally got most of the tunes I had missed the previous several shows. They seemed to integrate aspects of every Dead era effortlessly. There were shades of the '60's, '71, '72, '73, '74, '77, '82, '88, '95, etc- and John's tones morphed to match the mood. A gorgeous collage of their entire history.
They truly took it "furthur"- and I understood the name they have chosen, and feel like they are giving it more than lip service. It always takes me a few tunes to feel like I "trust" the band and open myself to the music fully. Some incarnations the last several years I never got to that intimate level of trust. last night it was within the first couple of songs and they took me on a great journey.
I was completely sober (have been for 16 years) and the music open me up to the good old acid-induced spacious mind more than a few times- especially in the second set. Time was spectacular and Breathe (missing from the zone's setlist) followed in suit. I love Floyd and it was great to hear my 2 favorite bands at the same time. I was brought to tears during Death Don't- that was the climax of the show without a doubt- Bobby was on fire and sounded like Screamin' Jay Hawkins.
The entire setlist for the second was crafted around the theme of "the eternal validity of the soul" and explored our fleeting life in this reality and provided a context for that and brought us into communion, once again, with the bigger stuff. It was a true spiritual experience.
Musically the execution was stellar during the tunes, and even the odd little jams between songs took on lives of their own before changing to the new key and groove, which they did with military precision. King Solomon's and Born Cross-Eyed were fine examples of that. They really outperformed and stood up to any other band out there right now, be it Phish or Dweezil Zappa.
I highly encourage you to make the effort to get to a show. I'm pleased they will be back this way again in a couple weeks and will be there again seeking a little more nectar from the transient blossom these guys have created together.
and it was fun as well
Great show. The best '1st show of the a tour’ I've ever seen
Great atmosphere. Rochester has a nice community of heads.
Great venue. Perhaps the nicest outdoor place in the northeast
thanks for the reviews zoners!!
Once again;what did JK sing? Anyone ?
Yes- he sang several tunes- they all mixed it up. It felt very balanced and no one was shorted. JK sang the appropriate tunes. Listen to the stream on archive.org right now.
Excellent review Pinman, I am listening to the HC Sunshine right now, and it it is off the hook. John is really steppin' it up. Looking very much to Herkimer next weekend lol, luckily I will have tomorrow and Lowell in the bag before then.
Is there a cool place that sells local crystals in town you could recommend?
John sang Here Comes Sunshine, a verse of Feelin' Alright, Bertha, and all the obvious songs that all the guys sang on like NFA, GDTRFB, etc...
Pinman - great review! Glad you had such a good time. Furthur is really bringing something on that hasn't seemed to be around for a while. What a great feeling!!!
Thank you for the JK update-see ya at Coney !!!!!!!!!!!!
One random thought from last night- right before GDTRFB John switched on a midi trumpet patch a la Jerry and teased the intro notes of I Will Take You Home and I thought they might break that out- it was a sweet and short nod to Brent, and well-placed coming at the end of the whole life and death sequence. Then right into the perfect tune to transform a brief moment of sadness- I thought of that photo inside of Without A Net of Brent and his daughter sitting side by side at his keyboards on stage looking at each other. That always brings a tear to my eye.
Again, thanks for the ride. And taking the time to let us all who can't be there have some PHUN too. Peace all.
I post so infrequently I continue to forget my last user name, but its me hoff saying hey. I made the trek out the thruway and back and couldn't be happier.
This is like beyond Furthur, IT is really really good, IT makes me happy, IT is still with us, I hope IT never ever leaves. IT will never leave me. IT is worth the trip. I am in awe of this band. IT is beyond words, IT makes me happt that Herkermer is only 45 minutes away. IT has me contimplating many more treks to the various venues where IT happens, ITs cool to be able to carry IT around but being there really makes IT. I'll see you Herkimer. I got IT, and I'm really looking forward to IT. Great review above. Good to see we get IT. Peace
An added note, nobody I was with says they heard it, but I did, the jam between truckin and feelin allright was very nice. During it I sang DR John's tune Right Place Wrong Time, I've got to listen to the tapes, but I heard it, I sang it throughout the jam. I'd be interested to hear if anyone else heard it. I've got a $10 bet with a good old friend over it.
just home from work...but i saw it up at 6am????? when do you guys sleep???? it looks like DPA by a nose. I could be wrong but will listen to both now...thanks brothers!!!!! god i love the digital age
^^My son even commented that people dont listen to the music at a dave matthews show (his favorite band) like they do at Dead related shows.^^
Yep..your son overstated the obvious....the bottom line, very simply stated, there is nothing , like a Grateful Dead concert...and where is that guy from the movie by the way? I know you hang out here! That was my first show. Idenyify!
^^holygodamnfuckingshit!!!^^ did i use too manyy !!!!!!!! for ya sage? oh my god im listening to not fade away OPENER now...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How do you do?
Sweet pics Scalc....AMUSED, again!
Hello?
Few minutes of mind left body jam right before GDTRFB.
I like this sequence of Viola better than when it was played later at Red Rocks 9-25-10, fwiw.
Great underrated show. Got my second Phil Strawberry Fields ( Asheville)..and my second Time(NYE 09)..
This Is the last Furthur version of Strawberry Fields with Lesh on vocals.JohnK sings the remaining versions.
