After reading the comments from last night, and also that wharf rat was in fact not played I cannot be more pumped for tonight!!!
Sugar Magnolia opener?
I am expecting a 'Star
XXXOOO
The show will have an amusment park theme, like the Family Dog shows on the Great Highway.
We are on our way from Rochester > Binghamton. Last night was blazing. Be ready for tonight!
There was no Wharf Rat last night, it sure would be nice to get it in Brooklyn. See you phreaks there!
What songs would you see fit for an "amusement park theme"
Thinking a water theme... Jack-a-row, Lost Sailor, Ship of Fools, Wharf Rat, perhaps UJB. And, of course, a One More Saturday Night encore.
Heading down for a day at the beach now and then ready for 2 nights of the boys bringing it. The Rochester I'm listening to now sounds TIGHT!
What are you all looking for??
Would love Terrapin....you think they go one more sat. night as encore or mid set like the Dead (w/ Warren) did last April--(a saturday night at the Garden)----regardless, going to be an epic night cannot wait
RIPPLE
as Coney Island is a trippy place...
Other One>Space>DarkStar>>...
I might be wrong, but I thought no "drums" or "space" with Furthur?
I think the Easties need to hear the WHOLE TERRAPIN. We were treated to one at the Angel's Camp, CA Furthur Festival and one at the rehearsals. It is an absolute treasure to hear...
I too hope we get some water songs. Uncle John's, Wharf Rat, Ship of Fools, Ripple all sound nice. I hope they put the One More Saturday night in an interesting place...
they gotta do another wheel
http://www.thingstoseenyc.com/wp-content/uploads/2 009/05/wonder-wheel.jpg
Amusement park theme: The Music Never Stopped (fireworks calliopes and clowns)?? That's my call for the opener.
Wish I could be there. Everyone whose going, have fun!
Waaaaariors! Come out and PLAY-EE-AY!
Pride of Cucamunga & Unbroken Chain!
What time will the band crank it up?
Pride of Cucamonga gets my VOTE!!!!!!!
7:00 or around there. Praying for a stream. ...Peace...
Terrapin is my call! The whole friggin thing.
How does the sky look over Brooklyn. It's cloudy here in Ulster County with a light sprinkle about an hour ago. No Rain, No Rain,
Did you guys see what Russo posted on his site...here's a pic of it...it looks like rain (they could play that too) but I'm sending kind vibes all the way to Brooklyn! Hope it doesn't rain on you guys. Have a BLAST!
Bigger than a Drive-in Movie, oooee (Picasso Moon)
Standing on the Moon
Werewolves of Brooklyn
other moon tunes for the full moon
ready to play
Feeling Half Step opener tonight, rollin loaded die, a nod to AC. Water theme in play. Lost>Saint would be nice if Bobby is feeling up to it (?) Speaking of water, a stream would be cool in a medicinal way. Enjoy y'all, I'll catch up in Philly.
thats a cool pic of the drum kit looking out to the ampitheatre, last nights board also had one...canyon critter what is Russo's website? i tried to find but couldnt! see you all in herkimer and philly!!
OMSN opener.
Get it out of the way.
OH sorry Wavy brother....I meant the evil, evil FaceBook. His page he has. He acutally along with John always update more than the "Old Guys" and post some really cool stuff, like Russo is really excited to play for his hometown crowd here in Brooklyn!

I'm in Blessings TR
Holy Shit! Come home and Booom one hell of a show! Man you guys rock...thanks for the nugs.
These guys are feeling "It" and boy it's a shame if anyone misses them. ((((Shelburne)))) zoners.
I also have to pre-nominate Taperrob as Deadhead of the Year....simply because this stuff ain't easy that he's doing, meaning it's harder than you think. To take time out to stop dancin' and spread the loving. You are thinking of others brother...and for that I personally want to thank you for all you do!
Furthur!
Man, I wish I could've made this one...hope all in attendance had a grateful time
well..god-damn that was the nuts and berries all in one.
Jill...well done...the way itr always should be.
freak me out again tomorrow!
Tomorrow will be my first Furthur show...
I really hope for a get up and dance your ass off first set, and intense jams 2nd set, with the 2nd half a Birdsong, and then ending with a Scarlet Fire.
I see a lot of possibilities tomorrow.
This is a GREAT set nonetheless.
Awesome show, second set was superb!
nonetheless?
Wow just got back to the room.Hot Hot Hot! Man these guys are the fucking shit!!! Can't wait to see whats up with tomorrow!!
We sat outside MCU Park tonite...amazing second set...and the fireworks rocked...Great scene...Wonder wheel and Cyclone in the background...very psychedelic... great backdrop...tons of lights from Amusement park...We sat in the back of our Subaru, and tailgated...great! Tomorrow we have tix...Can't wait!
I asked some of the band members if they thought they could play like this every night. I got a "Why not? We can even do better!"
Frankly, I don't know how, but this band continues to impress me. I really liked, no loved, the first set (BTW, HT, and LLucy were all played so damn well, but especially that new Phil/Hunter song MULI GULI and that set closer Sat Nite was about as good as they can play it). I had wanted to leave the rail midway through that 2nd set to hang with some folks at a party on the top of the stands I had been at earlier, but each time I thought about leaving I couldn't; they just kept taking it a notch higher. That Terrapin Suite to conclude that amazing second set (I don't know what to praise the most, but CAUTION just sort of had me speechless) was the bona fide shit!
official...
Ok folks just got home from the show. Best show, musically of my life. I've been to over 300 since '85.
That was unbelievable. I grew up in Brooklyn. Saw the show with my two best buddies growing up in Brooklyn. I work in Brooklyn. How about that full moon that kept coming out from and back into the clouds. What a scene. Went from balloons and kind veggie burritos and grilled
cheeses in the parking lot to nathan's hot dogs and cheese fries...
My god how lucky are we?
Going back tomorrow. It can't be as good as tonight. Can it?
try again....
here are a few shots...just a few...
Agree FREAKY! iou are afraid to miss one like tonights...and why we want to go to every one...
...and Russo alone is like an uncaged animal...with the freedom of playing on his own, rather than playing with, he is ripping it!
image{Text description}
more when I recover a bit...tomorrow!
Great venue,great show...Terrapin suite was everything I could've hoped for.Penn's peak next Woo-Hooo !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The jack straw was ridiculously good. I saw an incredible one at the Hammerstein Ballroom a few months ago. But I think tonight's was better. It is a great song. But you know something, Terrapin Station is the best song ever by the Grateful Dead. Maybe from a live closer perspective you might give the nod to Sugar or Lovelight. But now that the Terrapin Suite has been performed a couple of times, Terrapin stands alone as the best song ever by the Grateful Dead. Get into that!
Did anyone catch Bobby's lyric flub in St. Stephen? Then (to Phil's amusement) Bobby pointed to his head and made a face. A little while later Phil flubbed a lyric in Stephen and he just stepped back and laughed at himself. It was a great show tonight...no two ways about it!
Amazing. Hands down...fucking awesome.
hi tiff!!!! u were there, wished I run into you.
This was the real deal Shaquille! The second night at RCMH was one of the greatest experinces musically of my life...then i saw tonight's show.
Sick opener..ok the rest of the set will be ok..sick first set..ok this is a first set show.. holy shit.. Thanks guys for the journey called FURTHUR.
Sounds like the easties liked the band.
No surprise here.
But he sounds too much like Jerry!! It's just nostalgia man! There's no NEW ideas, like before!!!
Right. Come on kids; open your ears, get out of the shallow end and join the big boys out here where the music is real.
These moments are precious and are to be appreciated with great care. I urge you to treasure them with all of the love and energy that you have. And if you do not have the energy, find a way to secure some, any way that you can. The greatest gift that you have is your ability to be cognesant of your great fortune.
as Tim Leary used to say about tripping,
"Set and Setting"....
These were the perfect SETS in a great SETTING!!
and they even did a 'Star!!
Wonderful Setting by the Sea.
Sweet, easy going security.
The only downside were all the tobacco smokers and sloppy boozers. Legalize Cannabis!
Hey Dark Star Girl, I understand the Setting part of the quote. What did Tim mean by Set?
Thanks
All I can say after last nights show is wow. Please let us know once something goes up on Archive.org For those going tonight, have a great time!
Great night. Mellow lot scene, boardwalk/Nathan's a cool backdrop.
Opener was a jolt of energy from the get go. Loved the High Time. John's guitar was respectful but not a mirror copy of Jerry -- it was nice to see him stretch that one. I think they teased He's Gone at some point.
Second set had a lot of fluidity. Kenny Brooks came to play. He sounded good focused and did not just fill the background. Terrapin Station was sublime. I really thought they had passed it by after Caution, Stephen>Eleven, and Dark Star already played but they did it!! Thank you.
The Eleven took kind of long to develop in my opinion but when it did it was spot on. At a few points I felt like Jeff and John were stepping on each other but for the most part they figured it out and ultimately pulled it off -- there were no train wreck moments.
Overall a very satisfying show. Wish I were going tonight or a couple others but I feel they delivered a show I can savor until Nokia.
It's just nostalgia man! There's no NEW ideas, like before!!!
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
>>>>>>> Muli Guli <<<<<< !!!!!
Not nostalgia. New Hunter lyrics, great melody, great song, and a song that would have fit just fine with anything written during the hey days. WTF you drinking?
Freakboy:
What Tim meant by "set" was your mental state of mind before going into the trip; setting was your environment. So don't drop if you're in a bad way (set), or with the wrong people or in the wrong place (setting).
Thank you for your insight Jayw.
I'll be sure to utilize the guidance well.
Man I wish I business on the easy coast...waiting yill the end of freaking September is going to be rough......
Last nights show was Incredible... I heard many songs I heard at my first Furthur show back in December... they have progressed and it is a beautiful thing.
Here are a few little notes... I can't remember to much since I haven't seen a show since February and was hit with a huge wave of energy last night I wasn't expecting.
China Cat Sunflower>I Know You Rider was very powerful, the transition was amazing and Bobby's weird intro he has been doing the past year or two didn't stick out like a sore thumb as it usually does.
Beautiful interplay between John and Phil during Throwing Stones. Phil's playing is so, so, so much clearer with his new bass.. the Ritter is a great instrument but it just did not work with the big places they play.
Jack Straw was the group mind moment of the show for me... insane.
The Jam after playing was awesome and had direction...
The Terrapin was great... almost as good as the version I saw DSO do last year (that is saying a lot, Furthur hasn't even been playing together for a year) The Ratdog sax player has really studied this music and was a great addition to this moment of the show for there were many horns on the orginal recording of Terrapin, especially the At A Siding section. Joe Russo also sounded like a whole percussion section during the intense trading jam.
Bobby sang wonderfully on Brokedown...
This was a very good show, few drunk talkers around me which was great... I was surprised by that after seeing the crowd outside the venue.
A man offered me a ticket for tonight's show for face, which is now 40 dollars, a great price. Psyched! Hoping to get my Hunter/Garcia ballad sung by John...

Well kids IT continues. How lucky, blessed, and fortunate to land on this round earth, with all the vastness of space and time, we got to enter within these years. The last 30 years or so have rounded me out to be good, decent, respectful and appreciative of many things; this in no small part I attribute to IT. IT started for me in 77 at RPI in May and IT continues. For this I am Grateful. All the incarnations of the band, the Heads; what can one say other than, Thank You For A REAL Good Time. So many ups, yea, a few downs, but thats all part of IT I guess. This band we're seeing currently is IT, in a very big way. Again, how lucky are we? IT has taught me well. I really appreciate IT; the joy IT has brought me, the things that IT taught me. As I see IT....We Win! How cool is that.
Peace my friends
This is IT!
The very Essence of Life.
Be thankful for your well being.
Enjoy Nirvana
XXXOOO
Glad yall are having a great time, they sound good & Bobby put on long pants...))
>>>>>> Second set had a lot of fluidity
Really ? I thought that some of the segues were jarring and very jolting, not fluid at all, shrug ...
Again since I wasn't dosed, I thought the show was good, nothing mind blowing and plodded abit at times. Different strokes for different folks I suppose ...
Hearing the Terrapin Suite was way cool and The Caution was indeed the shit though ...
saw from last nights setlis that the show ended at @ 10:45 , is that pretty accurate, as I need to catch the subway back to midtown and drive to jersey. trying to gauge my time
Oh and I forgot to add that the sound was excellent, everyone was crystal clear where I was at in the bowl ...
This was one of the best shows I heard in years from anyone. Thanks again Taper Rob, and the rest of you Zoners for the pics. I don't feel quite so bad missing it. ....Peace.....
10 words...
OMG I thought I died and went to heaven...
the whole say/night/post-night/wee-hours/sunrise, the whole kit & kadoodle...
wowza. fucking great great great great fantastic fun time.
Listen to the river sing sweet songs to rock my soul... perfect conclusion to a perfect night.
THANK YOU FURTHER YOU REALLY ARE MY FRIENDS...
and last nights music, what Bob said above.
I could barely walk getting off the train at 3 am, only to find we were pretty much where we startedd out after riding for over an hour. lololol and poor tiff had to peeeeeeeeeeee the entire time. not even an lol on that one.
what a great fucking ridiculous crazy psychedelic funny loving connected glorious joyful time.
xo and peace
What a show!!!
Amazing...transcendant...glowing...flowing... loving energy shared and sent to all!!!
This is NOT "close enough to pretend"...THIS IS IT!!!!
lOVE AND LIGHT TO ALL....SEE YOU TONIGHT!!!!!!
Great night, wow, I am spent. . .
whew!
>>>WTF you drinking<<<
Actually, I had been drinking good tequila before I chimed in here (very) early this morning, but what I wrote in italics is not what I have come to think but was an attempt to echo what allot of other folks have been saying about this band; things I personally have found to be mostly inaccurate.
He does sound like Jerry, sometimes more than others, but I LOVED the way Jerry sounded and JK is jamming up there with his own very good ideas. He is not just playing memorized and rehearsed lines; if he was he’d be laughed out of every building he plays in.
There is nostalgia involved, as there will always be when you're living again with something you've lived with for decades, but that is not the dominating factor for me, but just an appealing piece of the whole thing; again, a very good thing IMO.
And the idea that there is nothing new to what this band is doing is just silly, as I find JK to be a very clever, subtle, crafty player, who shares the stage and surprises at least me by not always slamming it right down the middle, but who comes from odd and often gentle angles that have to be listened to, and that allow Phil, Bob and the rest of the band space to play and be heard on their own; ensemble playing, not just slam-bang rock ‘n roll.
And fucking Joe Russo is worth the price of admission on his own, if great drumming is your thing.
Have fun tonight with this fun little dance band. I wish I was there with you all.
thanks for the setlists !!
I said it in the other stuff discussion, but Russo sounded like he had 18 arms during the Terrapin suite.
Very very cool to see something unexpected and "new" when it comes to those songs being performed live.
And I definitely felt like JK was very successful in terms of both interpreting Jerry and staying true to the feelings of the songs. What I find is that he doesn't always play what I expect to him to play, and it works! Very difficult balance to pull off and I think he does it...
Full satisfaction. Maybe the best iteration of post-Jerry dead I've seen yet. Cannot believe I had to miss Sunday night - but Sat. was incredible - all around - music first, crowd and vibe. No complaints.
C'mon Phall Tour!!
Highlight for me from saturday nights show was Jack Straw.....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hl896hYw8R8
specifically, from 4:17 to the end!!!
Such a long long time to be there and a short time to be gone!
Really, Fantastical!
What they played, they played GREAT.
Like Jack Straw? It was played at the perfect time, the best I've ever heard. Quintessential, actually.
The Terrapin Suite? LOVELY! Caution Jam!? Oh yeah! Shall i go on?
The venue itself~ barely got to explore the fairgrounds, but we did get to ride the WONDERWHEEL! ((((swinging car, not the stationary car)))). It was straight out of a scene from Gotham- everything was crooked, nothing made sense, everything was all bright lites, big city, but OFF kilter; fabulous!
it was a great time for sure, the music was better than the other two further shows i've seen, fun, fun, fun. does anyone know what the intermission music was, it seemed like james brown, which album?
Very pleased overall. Stressed out hell gettin' there and 1st set was pretty forgettable, but wow the 2nd set sure made up for it from the very 1st note to the last, and that's all that really matters. Nice multiple teases before Jack Straw and in the Playin' jam before Dark Star. Then of course the FULL TERRAPIN SUITE!!!!!!! A first for me (Ratdog simply doesn't count). Did anyone else notice the lights in the parachute tower were in sync with the music?
The Caution was not too hotly played by 'JK' and hardly any fanning - quite unlike Amherst's fanfest.
Don't you folks listen?
As Sideshow says, DS popping out all over before Jack Straw for about 2 minutes, as well as hints in Playin' before receeding and then rising out of the blue for a very short first half (6-7 minutes).
The second half was a bit longer than the normal 2 minutes I'd bet though.
Playin' was a full 15 minutes though _ I asked my daughter, lol.
And there was a Millenium Jam Before The 11, that's why folks are saying "it took a while to lock it in." - not so, just the path they chose.
I'd say this Caution was longer and more jammy but mellower than Amherst. Haven't listened to the stream yet, though. Sometimes mellow is better, since they're trying to play things in new, different ways (reference Other One from Lowell - I think I was the ONLY ONE that liked it . . .).
Pufo - The album they played between sets was a James Brown compilation called "In the Jungle Groove." It's awesome.
