Hey Rob Scal, are you going to Herkimer or Philly? thats were we'll be at...Peace bro!
Tonights show is streaming on Sirius Radio in case you haven't heard; 7 P.M. Eastern. You can sign up for a free trail account and get the show. These feeds are great!!! All you need is the internet, you don't need to have one of those special satellite radio boxes. If you have never been to Red Rocks and can get there, you need to go!!!!! Don't wait til next time! I'll be enjoying Philly since I moved East, but I will always miss Red Rocks.

It's the first set. They are warming up...
I love my sirius

Oops - I left of Pride of Cucamonga
Not sure why anyone would be complaining about lack of energy right now. Very tasteful first set list played very sweetly. Nothing to kvetch about. We are so lucky to have this band right now.
I agree wholeheartedly. On a side note, the bitching only makes the experience more authentically Grateful Deadesk.
i love the fact that the set list is so unpredictable just enjoy it while it lasts
11 days til my next show going to be long 11 days
enjoy the 2nd set
Dire Wolf??
Sailor
your list for set 1
Set II:
Sailor
wow! sounds like lift offis in progress here comes your energy...
Lost Sailor
this is too fun!! I'm loving the real time postings!!

Cat on a tin roof........
WOO HOOO
He's gone, and now THEY are.. love IT
chimenti is making love to that organ!
passenger - nice jam
Pasenger
Dancin' - REAL nice, funky, slinky smooth jammin
This Dancin' is totally terrific but I do miss the two part of the verses with Bobby and Donna.
Holy crap. Dancin' done "old school"! Jerry sound circa May '77
Dancin' Everyone off the barco loungers?
Bobfest.
always bobby
Awesome, bobby isn't playing an instrumental riff between lines in the verse of estimated!!!!
Passenger>Dancin'>Estimated - it is 1977!
Bobapalooza
what a great estimated!! great set so far.....
why cant John sing the rat?
how 'bout a 'round-n-round to top it off--That would at least make it an ok bobapalooza
OK. Enough is enough. I hope JK lost his voice and Bob is just covering for him. This is way too much Bob.
totally agree...this is a song bob shouldn't go near vocally with a ten foot pole...buzzkill city...but JK's guitar is doing the singing...
layringitis!!!!!!!!!!! I pray is the reason
Officially Shatnerized...
Bob nailin' Black Peter!
I think Taper Rob fell asleep, could someone nudge him.
he probably left
In a Jesus crucifixion sort of way...Weir may experience laryngitis after this onslaught...
Cheese it up baby
Gimme is sounding like a train wreck, at least vocally
Bobby keeps trying to sing over JK. Too funny. I love how I go from saying there's nothing to complain about to bitching about Bobby. My God given right as a Deadhead.
this gimme some lovin is a vocal mess...whatever...Bob is Bobstar...Lovelight...more Bob...u would think yesterday being JK's Bday he might get thrown a vocal bone or two..
I'm scared to bring it up, but what could the encore be? I Faught the Law or Watchtower?
rough bob john duet
but its rockin!
Lovelight
setlist update please, all i can gather is too muck bobby
throwing in the proverbial Weir spit soaked towel here...shine on me Bobby...shine on you Bobby
It's always too much Bobby, at least since 1995.
Sure. Lovelight. Why not? After having my buzz killed tonight I'm actually sitting here laughing. If they let John sing Peter and Bobby sang Gimmie, the set would still have been Bob heavy, but would have been such a better flow, less jarring and more satisfying. These guys are lucky they jam so damn fine.
estimated...then what gimme?
extra cheddar..... i love it
Glad I went to a Brooklyn show considering this Ratdog in disguise performance. More Fake Jerry, less Bobby & the Midnites.
FYI - Greg Allman got a new liver this week.

Gimme Some Lovin' wow that is a nice break out of Black Peter as well.Nice to see Reveloution as well. My buddy just called and said they simulcasted the show on Sirius tonight.
Ed I agree about tomorrow and the weather is going to be perfect, a cool star lit night.
Nice spending the nite listening and watching the posts. So fun to be back on the bus again! Nite to all and look forward to seeing you in Lowell Tomorrow!!!!!!!!
I just have to respond and say hey to Scott E (Cofishingfool). Be careful what you wish for! I'd gladly switch places with you. I've been in Baltimore for three years now and yes the Northeast always gets its fair share of shows, but I would trade them all to catch the 3 show run at Red Rocks this Sept. I was out in Boulder for 6 years and boy do I miss that country and that music scene. PEACE!!!!
Dancin' In The Streets and Gimme Some Lovin' at long, long last! I saw the last GD versions of each of them. Some of Phil's bands have played Dancin' over the years (saw Theresa sing it at Penn's Peak in '08 actually), but I haven't seen a GSL since 9/15/90 at MSG.
i guess im the first review...well here i go...again totally off the hook start to end....best place to see a show ever....bobs country bunker<blues>...or porkys....no shit...thn real deal.....they were totally into it....sriously and no joke....it was your high school gym with food beer and shots...took 5 mins to walk in...just absolutly the coolest place to go to show....spend a little time on the mountain...just total sickness but in a relaxed way.....red rocks of east coat even though inside...un believable
im first review cooooooooooooooll...again killer from start to end....jon is the bomb...rueben > pride of cuckoo....un belioeveable......best place ever to see a show...goodnight........
^I agree with coolest place to go to a show!

oops typo in text, whatever i'm tired
finally woke up....my order of last 3 musically....sunday night coney island #1 saturday night #2 penns peak #3 BUTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT...penns peak number #1 overall experience...with everything considered....weather...traffic...atmosphere....pa rking lot....venue....no pushing or shoving...cops were cool....shakedown street...1 guy was selling beer and grill cheese for 1 dollar each...i bought 2 of each gave him a 2$ dollar tip and he tried to give me extra food and beer and i said no thats for you and he was just like really ? really..just a totally fun experience and i my opinion just the absolute coolest place near nj / ny to see a show....most fun i had in a long time...they were even cooler inside...i bought 2 rum and cokes and 2 budweisers and the girl asked for 12 dollars and i was like really? are you sure?.....the balcony on top of an east coast mountain...very breezy...just a greay experience..and like i said it was a lot of bob butttttttt it was 100% fun....ill be shocked if anybody who was there rips this show...it literally was like seeing them in your backyard or high school gym but with beautful wood floors and rafters ...looked like a log cabin inside and like bobs country bunker from the blues brothers movie on the outside minus the chicken wire...going to be hard to top not musically but overall experience...didnt hurt we took a stretch from nj...the parking lot guys didnt know where to put us so the cops kind of made a special little parking area just for us...
2 well drinks and 2 Buds for 12 bucks? My kinda place.
1st set was where it was at (EZ Wind Ruled!)
2nd set - a real letdown. Everything after Estimated was GARBAGE.
Oh well, they can't all be winners.....
Listened to second set of last night's show on XM. What a dirgelike set of tunes. Obviously I can't speak for what was happening in the hall, but if the band was hoping to generate interest and ticket sales with the broadcast, it surely didn't win over anyone. The music was so slowly played, Weir's vocals were beyond ragged, Kadlecik sounded uninspired on guitar and vocals....just awful.
Not trying to be a basher. But to me (and to my wife, who like me is a devotee of the Dead since 1977), this second set was terrible.
it was fun sitting in chat & on the boards making comments on how bad the second set was...
Had to register finally and join in the comments here. Obviously a lot of folks were enjoying themselves last night, the venue was aesthetically stunning, and yes, parking lot and venue food/drink prices were cheaper (except for the $10 balloons...), but that's were the positive comparisons ended for me. Lots of lunkheads in the crowd, pushing their way through rudely at times, and the beautiful wooden floors were sticky with spilled beer by night's end. Musically, the only two songs that really stood out for me were Easy Wind, which was astonishing and led nicely into New Speedway, and Passenger in the second set. Sailor/Saint sounded forced, as did Black Peter. Disco Dancing was quite nice, but lacked the instrumental riffs of the late 70's versions. Estimated was solid, and fit well with a set that was all about Bob, as others have pointed out. And sadly, the long-awaited Gimme Some Lovin was indeed a bit of a train wreck, followed by a surprisingly brief Lovelight.
Not a bad show overall, but considering the money, traveling, and expectations, it came nowhere near the Coney Island experience over the weekend. Sorry!
You people whining about Bobby singing (or trying to) too much are comical. You are the same people I avoided at all costs at the shows in the old days. Constantly picking apart everything and unable to simply live in the moment. There are those who appreciate the simple beauty of Phil & Bob performing on the same stage at 70 and 62 years of age. Me, for one. Waaa waaa waaa
The people who dwelled on the scene at Penn's are spot on. Sometimes shows are more remembered for the scene than the tunes. Set and setting. I've been to Penn's Peak, I know, the place is amazing. Also, this band is called Furthur. So what if Bobby sang a shitload of songs. Better than John IMO because I don't like trying to pretend I'm hearing You Know Who. I'd rather hear someone who is You Know Who's soulmate, whether he's singing good, rapping, singing like shit, whatever.
Lastly, look beyond the performance and the man behind the guitar. You just might think of him in a different light:

I'm somewhat astonished. First a BIG shoutout to Sirius/XM for providing a great mix. Didn't hear it all but loved what I heard! Dancin' transported me back to '79. John was awesome! Bobby sounded real bluesy on New Speedway - he did f.u. the words - but I love when he uses that voice.
Black Peter is about death, folks. It's slow & sad but very powerful. The acoustic version from Bear's Choice was one of the very first things I loved, before going to shows or getting bootlegs. Strange that high schoolers would get off on that that but we'd get stoned late at night and listen to it in our dorm rooms. Then of course we got it too much in the late 70's... But last night's was solid (conjured up feelings of mortality that we start to experience at my age - a friend staying with me had recently survived a sudden, unexpected heart attack). Then we went out and I missed the rest.
Did anyone rip the radio copy and put it up somewhere?
Not a bad show overall, but considering the money, traveling, and expectations, it came nowhere near the Coney Island experience over the weekend. Sorry!
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Loved the venue, the very easy and FREE parking (compared to CI where it was exhorbitant), and the mountain setting. After that though I was not inspired too often by the show itself.
I wanted to hear an Easy Wind and got a very nice one. Overall I thought the first set was stronger than the second, but neither set came close to anything played at MCU. So far, I'd rank the shows MCU#1, MCU#2 (but it was a close call between the 2 @ MCU, but that Terrapin Suite separates them, even if Blues for Allah was almost as nice), and then Penn's Peak (with a big fall-off from the energy at MCU to the show at PP). Overall not a clunker, but just disappointing by comparison to 2 outstanding shows at MCU.
Wasn't there but am listening to the stream now - seems better than on paper - until the Black Peter - ouch! This is just downright horrible. As bad as the Dead reunion version in Hartford last spring - people were leaving that show in droves. Having been to this venue, I can't even imagine standing there on that overcrowded floor enduring this pain. Sorry, but of all the Shatneresque Bob-sung Jerry ballads, this is by far the most dreadful . . .
Sorry, but the Black Pete was, in fact, awesome. Panning BP is nothing new though. Many folks did not get it back in the days.
