Again, thanks Rob, for another job well done! You know we appreciate it!!!
Tnank You So Very Much Rob!
Rob - the statues, who is the big center one of?
My nutty freind was trying to find an inscritipon out there last night 1t 1:30 am, but to no avail. LOL
Guesses are Zeus or Poseidon?
You are the MAN ROB!!! Thank you!!!!!!
Zoning and reporting to you from the center back of the pit. Very Bob-centric 1st. Still, in spite of cringes I can sense with that fact now before you, it was hot!
Shakedown rivaled or surpassed Coney show and Alligator done very 60ish. Loved it. Would have been highlight. But. Again a cringe coming. Money4Gas may have been set highlight. Sick, seriously sick.
the shakedown blew coney island away and I'm from Brooklyn.
Blackie.... no reason to cringe. Would never have guessed but Money for Gas was my fav tune at this winters Manchester show. JK has really added something to this tune. Love the ways these guys are playing it. Wish I was there!!!!

Mike? I was thinking it looked pretty empty as well.
actually i was talking about the shakedown street scene in the parking lot...sorry for the confusion
Thinking Red Rocks will be packed - after all they added a 3rd show (and I'll be at all three) - seriously "west coast" has been starved this year - real fans will be there in droves
SWEET! Mellow Slow...

Very, very kind T-Rob... Thank you!
EP-IC second set. Made last night's show look like 4/3/88 in Hartford (that's a little hyperbole - Last night wasn't nearly as bad as 4/3/88). I loved that they didn't play the Lady with A Fan parts of Terrapin and it proved again how unpredictable this band can be (even if their setlists are pre-written). I was sure they were done after Let it Grow, but man, they just kept playing. Awesome. Kind of wanted my Bid You Goodnight, but maybe next time.
WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
First set was great.
Second set was outstanding !!!
your 2nd set list
Second Set was sublime, jaw dropping music. The end movements of the Terrapin suite that appeared without warning following a moody and still rare Blue for Allah stunned me. Gorgeous music being made at the highest levels. Deeply moving evening.
For me, the theme of the evening, and maybe for everything: the good old days are now. Take care of each other. Take care of the earth. We're all there is and she's all we got.
Much love and respect to all the members of Furthur, their families, this extended family. You guys are truly inspirational. Thanks for lighting the way and thanks for this gift of transformational music.
Just wondering if anyone else heard the 'mind left body jam' they teased for a couple of minutes at the end of the jam before they bailed on the Stagger Lee?
Such a silly boy that Bob Weir is. He thinks he can keep playing Midnight Hour instead of Dancin' in the Streets for me in Philly (like he did at the Spectrum in '94 and tonight).
I will just bide my time and some day I will have my Dancin' In The Streets from that man.
I't just a matter of time, Bobby. Mark my words....
It was like 5 seconds of Mountain Jam and then 15 seconds of MLB before Bobby decided to end it. I would have loved to hear either or both fully developed. However, I can't really say that it was because of Bob's decision that the jam didn't develop. I think the preordained setlist may have contributed to the lack of passion with which John toyed with those themes. Certainly, from a historical context, the Dead were playing Mountain Jam during Alligator before the Allman Brothers were even in existence. So, it would have been really cool.
Personally, I'm really waiting for a Spanish Jam from these guys. Preferrably out of a Let It Grow a la 1974.
Whatever about all that. Who knows maybe John didn't feel ready to sing it. I guess bob's choice of money for gasoline turned out all right but they should have played the Stagger Lee. That's all im saying.
I'm kinda bummed although they were great shows, the Stagger Lee would have been the bust out especially if they play it the way the practiced it at the throck earlier this year. It kinda reminds me of the Barton Hall show when they should have let John sing the planned Hey Jude. That would have been a BLOW OUT. but instead we got the bob SOTM..sigh..
I was hoping for a Foolish Heart(did they even play one this tour?) and the Revolution Encore, and oh yeah, the Stagger Lee.
Absolutely amazing show. Straight up magic.
I called out MOUNTAIN! When I heard it, then it was quickly MLB, then it was quickly over. Two teases of jams I would've loved to hear.
Greetings from my sister's computer in Linden, NJ. Here is my short version review, this may have been the show of the tour. This was CLEARLY the best second set I have witnessed this band play.
The opener was amazing, the band was totally on, Phil was out of control the entire night, and the Shakedown was HUGE! OMG the jam at the end was wicked and then a another excellent Alligator and yes they did do a Mind Left Body tease ((((()))))
The rest of the set was rock solid, I did not hear that Stagger Lee tease. Another great Magnolia Mountain, Lost> Saint and then a happening Midnight Hour.
Set two was everything you wanted and more. It was the jammiest set I have seen this band play and was it amazing from start to finish. A jam into Mountains of the Moon was poetic and the band just seduced you along for a beautiful ride. St. Stephen may have been the loosest tune of the night, Phil even laughed while singing the final verse, but they pulled it together and again it had a nice jam at the end and into Blues for Allah was perfect.
This was an incredible version man the vocals the bridge, which got very jazzy, and the sultry bluesy ending...wow I was loving it, then a massive surprise they start the ending of Terrapin, no vocals and then complete the Suite, this Flyer smoked the one played at Herkimer, Jeff was wild on it on the Moog, and then I thought Phil was gonna drop the Dew at the end, but we got an a incredible Let it Grow instead. They raged on it! The entire band this set was stunning. Jay was amazing as well.
The end jam on this version was just sick and then WE got the MASSIVE Morning Dew.
This was one for the ages, maybe the best one they have played so far. It was stunning, Phil dropped at least four bombs in it. John's vocal and playing were so inspired and heart wrenching. It was a thing of beauty.
Wait till you hear it.
Then they stopped and I knew what was coming, there was no other choice and Phil drops the PHAT Unbroken Chain and the band just took off again and they raged on this one, it was breathtaking, wild and they jammed it out big time!
Then a great transition into another show stopping Wheel, the audience sang the loudest on this one and the band simply soared, with amazing harmonies and searing leads from John, and Phil once gain raged on it.
Then they old school with a happening and fully played out NFA that rocked the house as we grooved out.
I knew it was gonna be Brokedown, it just had to be, and it was a majestic version and Bobby done good with the vocals and John's solo was majestic. Phil was so wonderful on it as well, damn the whole band was.
As for Phil's playing this entire night, this was the best I have seen him play in along time,I have to go back to Mohegan '07 for an comparison, he was loud and inspired with amazing tones and he went deep. Listening to the board confirmed that, at one point he was playing lead bass during Let it Grow lol
This was the show I had been aching for all tour and it was beyond anything that I could have expected.
Thanks again guys and plus all the amazing dancers around the right side external speakers it was truly inspired going nuts with you all.
Ok I guess this was not the short version.
Happy Trails ya'll
THANKS TROB!
Everything that you want in a show. More later, still can't talk, back to bed.
For all those that have stated or felt that John K is not letting it loose, please listen to the end of Morning Dew from this show.
Nothing more needs to be said.
thank god the haters in this room got me so mad that i jumped in the car by myself { because everybody had already left} and went last night.....i am no longer going to rant.......if you werent there you missed it just like post above said and if you were there you dont need me to tell you what ive been saying for 4 months...go and enjoy it if not please stay at home which alot of people did 4 thousand less 1 usher told me...it was both ights of coney island rolled into 1 beautiful day/night in philly....and like post above there is nothing more tha needs to be said...im glad most people get it and im done advertising for further....im glad if you dont go ...more tix and more room for friends of mine and everyone else that want to go...grateful bill
Yea, John took control last night for sure.
Great seeing you Keith.
Still can't gather my thoughts after that mind bending psychedelic assault on my brain.
Monument of a show
Looks like Gratefulbillini just needed to see a good show to get THE CAPS out of his system. Just what the doctor ordered I guess.
Speaking of which, when was the last time they played Good Lovin'?
WOW....what a great f'n show..Stranger thru> Gasoline was excellent..2nd set was Incredible...DEW AND CHAIN off THE HOOK EXCELLENT
Great 2 nights in philly but Sunday night takes the cake, with so much more room to dance and feel the breeze this show was epic from start to finish. When i heard the mind left body tease i was freaking cause that would have been so cool to hear but it was over before i could even explain to my friend what was happening. I love these guys, cant wait for the play back! see you next time around~
I meant to say that the Terrapin Flyer was off the hook as well. I just drove back from Jersey and have listen to the second set almost twice, and the first set once.
The opening was killer, better than Herkimer for sure.
The jam in Mountains was wild. The Lost Sailor was amazing, maybe better than Saint. I still could not hear a Stagger Lee tease and the Mind Left Body jam was ended quietly by John,no stamping by Bob and no abrupt ending either, I am SURE we will see this enter the rotation later in the summer, it was so effortlessly introduced by the band.
Sound was amazing and Shakedown scene was pretty wild, if you like the N2O mafia every 50 ft. If someone could invent a soundless valve for those freakin' tanks I would shake their hand.
Inside the vibe was perfect and teh sound in the shed was great and I loved the stack of speakers they had out for us dancers. How was the sound up on the grass?
the sound was better sunday night on the grass which may reflect the extra day to fine tune things as the crew was delayed the day before, also it was a much cooler night so maybe the sound was carrying better? but saturday the 1st set was very low on the grass and improved thru the show while sunday night it was perfect from Stranger on. I took a walk thru the "shed" and the view and sound was amazing but way too hot for this sweaty guy and i went back to my niche on the hill. Mann security was basically absent to the delight of us heads, we could walk into any section we wanted (of course lots of empty seats on sunday), there was no pat down at the gates so a couple of sneak--in beers helped save $ on the $8 inside beers! Shakedown scene was the craziest i have witnessed in some time, very big and long shakedown and it was a great sunny day to soak it all in. this is a great venue in a crappy part of town so cops are more focused on other issues and let us do our thing and police ourselves. aside from the non stop nitrous the scene was just spectacular and i am already awaiting the next tour! I went to herkimer which was a 12 hour round trip and it was ok (i was one of thousands stuck in traffic) and then these philly shows were 30 minutes from my house made me appreciate how the boys always get up for Phil-ly!!
Yes, what a long strange trip it has been, and last night the road turned towards PHIL-ly for one of the most 'killer' Furthur shows ever - the 2nd set was beyond 'beyond'. The details are well documented here - let me just say that I mentioned to anyone who would listen how much I wanted to hear Mtns. Of The Moon during this run, and when the 2nd set started I called it immediately from Phil's first noodles - and from there the trip through Saint Stephen into Terrapin Flyer (which is amazing to think that you can hear a never-heard-before live piece of music from a 25 year old album) into Blues For Allah was just jaw dropping - we lost it completely somewhere in there - and then THE DEW!!!! which was incredible - so thanks to the boys for keeping the mother rollin' and bringing the love back to PHIL-ly one more time and to the ssters and brothers who are always 'on the bus'. Hope to see you down the road. Peace and Love. Adam Dean
just got back to nyc
what an amazing weekend in philly
from the lot to the people to the shows
had orch a close up seats both nights
sat was hot but last nites 2nd set
blew me away
unreal energy
need a rest before Nokia
see you there !
Bobby played Dancin in Philly 11/15/08... good try though
they played dancin at penns peak 2 weeks ago
Liked the relatively up tempo MOTM. SOmehow playing a little quicker makes the vocals and instrumentals more interesting for me.
Great show. Really different than the night before. A lot harder rocking and more improvisation, more JK.
I like how JK does his thing, is reminiscent of Jerry without being in your face(like so many others, esp {{{Warren}}}). This results in a real real nice balace among the musicians.
Bob was outstanding, best I've seen him in decades, almost.
Joe Russo has really settled in. Just watch and listen to him. Real nice stuff going on there.
>>>Joe Russo has really settled in. Just watch and listen to him. Real nice stuff going on there.<<<
Absolutely 100% with this comment. He could be the MVP in this band
^^Bob was in top form all night,Joe Russo is Fantastic, such a dynamic drummer that makes you not miss Molo...JK was on fire,Phil full throttle all night.Jeff full sound, backup singers a great addition..What a HOT show
For the person who asked: The central statue in the fountain outside the Mann is Moses. That fountain was erected in 1876 for the Centennial exhibition which was held on the Mann grounds, and the surrounding area of Fairmount park. It was at this fair that white Americans got high for the first time. The Turkish exhibit at the Centennial offered a hit of hash to anyone who stopped by, and that was located on the other side of Belmont ave from the Mann lot.
Plenty has been said about this 2nd set. It truly was great, and you got one of those "rapture" moments when people actually shut up and were paying attention to every note of the music. A truly phenomenal set, and the songs seemed to go so well together both musically and lyrically. I love how they skipped Yahweh yesterday and went for Allah on Sunday instead . The first set was really good too. One of the better Magnolia Mountains I've heard, and it was nice seeing the boys do a soulful Midnight Hour for Philly.
i have to say i am really gettin tired of the late starts. There was no excuse for coming on 50 minutes late Saturday and 30 minutes late Sunday. I had to leave early both nights due to early morning commitments. How about a little consideration for those of us with jobs!
hey john (wheels)
take a monday off -i did
never left a show early in my life never will
ted(stellablue22) could not have said it better myself excellent review
such a great show
lots of my old tour buddies not on the further wagon
like one poster said above
more tickets and more room to dance for me
nokia should be awesome
all booked for red rocks as well
"i have to say i am really gettin tired of the late starts. There was no excuse for coming on 50 minutes late Saturday and 30 minutes late Sunday. "
Did Phil apologize for Sunday's delay? That show should have started much earlier like at 3PM instead of a regular 7:30 or 8 as it ended up.. Same with Coney Island. They do start earlier for the Sunday Red Rocks show but not early enough to catch a plane out of Denver after the show. Could that be why none of these shows sold out?
I guess Furthur doesn't think we have jobs to go to on Monday mornings.
"i have to say i am really gettin tired of the late starts. There was no excuse for coming on 50 minutes late Saturday and 30 minutes late Sunday. "
John and Nick, which one of you fell off the turnip truck first? Or maybe you just arrived from Mars. A show's start 1/2 an hour past ticket time IS on time. They NEVER start at ticket time. And John, didn't you hear Phil explain before Sat's show that the equipment truck WENT OFF THE ROAD IN AN ACCIDENT? Delayed for 6 hours... Maybe you were too busy gettin' your panties in a bind. The show could have been cancelled. And who the hell schedules early morning commitments for early morning the day after a show? C'MAAHN!! You left EARLY? GEEZUM! FIX YOUR PANTIES!!!
Furthur knows that THE DEADICATED will take a Monday off, or get to work late and tell the boss it was really important, or just deal with the lack of sleep and catch up later.
The crew who run the shows need sleep to be on their game, not to mention the band, so they're not going to have a 3:00PM sunday show after an 8:00PM saturday. Do the math. Prep time, chill time. If they did start at 3:00 you'd whine about it being too hot...
Im surprised noone has pointed out the obvious theme of the show and that was the eclipse that occured yesterday! ( yes, its true it couldnt be seen from the northeast skies) but the boys knew it was happening.. most of the songs seemed to deal themeatically with the cosmos and our relationship to it. with some obvious nods, and even a blues for Allah!! UNDER ETERNITY.. You can look at the set and draw all the conclussions but there was definitly a theme!
one of the best shows ive ever seen. ;)
2nd set was the best show experience I have had in 19 years. Incredible playing, just incredible.
Sunday was a really great show... The best Ive seen in a while!... But Bob singing Brokedown Palace to end it was terrible...He has got to let JK handle that song!
otis: Thanks for the feedback.i have been going to shows for 33 years and I fell off the turnip truck about 19 years ago. i am the boss but that doesnt matter. No work was done on the stage on Saturday night (except a music feed) they just didn't come out. I drove 2 hours each way both days to see the shows and knew my time limitations that was my choice. It is just BS. They were great shows and with a little consideration i could have seen more. Peace out!
I would rather the band come out 30 or 50 minutes late than to have to sit through some crappy opening band.
I'm also noticing how the fans at Furthur shows don't applaud solos anywhere near as often as Heads did at GD shows.
And as much as I like John and last night's Dew - That's a song that was such a Garcia Tour de Force that it's the one song I think they should have retired permanently.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iin4N8KidjY
John: Here's a nugget for you. Watch this, it's cool. 6-26 setup - shows - breakdown 6-27. Note that the sun was just rising when the truck pulled in, making it about 5:00 AM. That's after a 330 mi night drive from Rochester's show 6-25 that ended the night before.
It's 5-6 hours from Masontown to Philly. Add the accident to the formula. Rabbit out of a hat. Believe it or not... despite your convictions... they didn't just sit around for an hour to piss you off. Other stuff goes on. Give 'em a break, man.
The things they do to bring you the music you love are amazing. For what, fifty or sixty bucks? They were great shows and with a little more Deadication and better planning you could have seen more.
YOU LEFT EARLY???
Thanks for the stream taperrob...you make us all happy!!
last night was amazing, im glad i dragged myself there though ive been ill still, they were on wayyyy more than they have been , even though they have sounded good thus far, in general, last night, especially second set was HOT! listen and tell me what yall think, maybe its just the afterglow, but i think it ripped. peace
Wow unreal sets. We Win again, and I wasn't even there. These guys Bring IT night after night. Next one's better than the last. I'm calling for a phan sign of appreciation, somehow, we let them know how Grateful we are....The Phans. This whole deal exceedes my very wildest of wild dreams and again I'm Grateful. Tell your brothers, tell your sisters, tell your friends; IT is still alive and well; the vibe the scene, IT the music. How lucky are we? Lets have a group Thank You to the band. These guys really bring IT. All these dudes and a dudette at one time changed my life for the waaay better. I am here to stand and say; and I believe I'm saying this for all of us, "Thank Youuu For a Real Good Time". Oh, none of us are greedy, but we respectfully ask that you continue on until you see fit. We will keep showing up.
We Love you guys and I wanna say hey, Thank You!
Peace, thanks again.
Hoff
Cant wait til GOTV :D. They deserve the next two weeks off. Rest up boys!
By BLACKIE (2hard2handle) on Sunday, July 11, 2010 - 11:02 pm
This set is " the " shit!
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
The above was written from the back of the pit during the St Stephen jam; it was at that point I knew the second set was going to be the set of the tour. Between the way the first set played out (and all those lamenting Stagger Lee was passed over in favor of $4Gas have NO CLUE! - that $4Gas was the song of the first set, though Alligator was pretty f'ing close and the Shakedown surpassed the Coney version) and how well MOTM had been done to start the set (the jam in it was simply inspirational), followed by am amazing Stephen, the set was already on fire and getting hotter.
If they had stopped playing after Dew it would have been a sensational set (Dew was jaw-dropping; I think John had his best night of this tour), but they gave us 3 more gems, with the entire house shouting out the lyrics to THE WHEEL throughout the whole song. I spoke with band members afterwards and even they were amazed at how into it the crowd was by then.
Other than a minor blown line to start BFA, I don't know of what else might have been less than perfect in that set. It was "the set" we keep hoping to catch and once in awhile we get shown the light. And that Terrapin without Lady was nothing short of amazing, especally considering Russo could only partially hear himself and was sometimes playing with one hand while talking with his tech to get the problem under control (and they never did get it straightened out). Russo flat-out ripped that turtle a new A-Hole! Right now John Molo might as well be his caddy. I can't wait for more.
,,,,,,,,
Just a few choice ones before I catch-up on a serious lack of sleep....
....the vocal heroes of FURTHUR...
.....awwwww!
thanks for the pictures!! great stuff!!
Any idea why they swapped out stagger lee for money for gasoline?
Thanks for those nice pictures. Agree with your take on this.
Just listened again, and it's actually hard for me to believe they played that set.....
THIS WAS SOOOOO PYSCHEDELIC!!!
It had the 'IT' , the 'X', etc..........which makes it killer jam band and very GD wrt genre.
"THIS WAS SOOOOO PYSCHEDELIC!!!"
Yep. Still reeling two days later after a full day off of rest. Been trying to put down words on this one for two days but it's still not possible, certainly can't add anything to what has been said here already, except kudos to the staff at the Mann for making it such a wonderful experience both nights. Beautiful venue with super nice folks everywhere, never got touched going in either night and once inside you could do what you pleased without ever having to think about being hassled. A hint for those who didn't like the crowds down front on Saturday; go back to section B on either side, plenty of empty seats both nights and the sound was great. I was 7th row Sunday and didn't have any problem with the crowd at all so I guess it was mellower that night, it certainly seemed that way outside the venue.
i agree Tom saturday was pretty crowded
funny thing- on sat during muli i went to get some water as i could not breathe after the
insane jack straw (i never leave during the show but i could not breathe so i had to)
anyway
the guy in front of me went absolutely bonkers insane because the staff ran out of chicken salad sandwiches at the concession
did he not see the incredible amount of food for sale in the lot?
it was funny but he was extremly abusive to the
worker who remained calm
otherwise the mann was great
sunday was not as crowded and i had ample room to dance- row j orch a was a great spot
the dew into ubroken chain left me speechless
the jam on unbroken was incredible
i really am loving this band
the Phil/Bob hug is out-fucking-standing.
LOVE IT.
What!!!!! They ran out of CHICKEN SALAD????????????
Well, that changes everything!
What a weird thing to get upset about, and you certainly shouldn't take it out on the poor folks behind the counters, it's not their job to make sure the stock is full.
I ran into a great old friend who was working behind one of the counters selling water on the main concourse, she has a temp job with the catering company that got the gig there, working her way through grad school in her late 40's after a bad divorce. She was working her ass off and I'd be upset if I saw some idiot giving her a hard time.
.....the Phil/Bob hug is out-fucking-standing.
LOVE IT......
That is "IT"
Look at JK
:-)
Soon comes Nokia....
and Phil Loves NYC.
Get Ready!
Hey all,
What's already been said about how epic Sunday's show was, how THESE are the good ole' days, how breathtakingly, jaw-droppingly awesome the Dew was - it's all true. Saturday's show wasn't half-bad either, but Sunday's blew its doors off. I'm just so happy I have a job where I can take off a day at a moment's notice, as I did on Monday, drive across the state and catch some shows like this.
As you can tell from my handle, I'm a Phish phan. I did catch three Phish shows this summer, and they were awesome and a lot of fun. But what's happening on this Further tour is magical. I'm blessed to see shows by both bands playing at a very high level. Speaking of Phish, I'm surprised no one else has commented on the obvious First Tube tease during Let It Grow. Hilarious! I guess when John gets tired of playing Jerry, he can start playing Trey!!
Gonna have to listen to pick up the MLB in Alligator. I didn't hear it. I heard what sounded like a very sweet entry to Goin' Down the Road, which did sometimes follow Alligator (think 4/29/71).
by the way, the torrent is locked loaded and ripping down to an ethernet port near you:
http://bt.etree.org/details.php?id=536737
get on the train while she's hot . . .
Is it possible to listen to live streams of these shows? Very GRATEFUL for Rob to share this with us!! Would be super cool to listen to it live as it unfolds if at possible......
I just listened to the Morning Dew from Sunday.....Oh my!!
That was by far the best song IMO from this past weekend. JK nailed it!! Runner up was that China Rider where Jeff went nuts on the keys, however I wish we heard a little more emotional punch vocally during "I wish I was a headlight on a north bound train" as I was ready to explode. The jam and extra chorus in it was beautiful....but come on man...hit it hard when you have us in a frenzy like that. Other highlights were definitely Sunshine/Jackstraw/Alligator/Althea/St stephen from these shows. Lost Sailor/SOM is a top "A" grade nugget tune for me....but it lacked the punch I was looking for during SOM
Nothing is better than when Bobby is hootin and hollering and JK is doing is thing reminding us of our friend Standing on the Moon. Gotta be honest, it bummed me out when JK didnt jam Franklins Tower Saturday (sorry phil) and same goes for Sunday's Brokendown. This isn't Rat Dog so let JK do his thing when it's his time to shine. That is why I love DSO so much because they just seem to bring it every night with that energy I am looking for in a show and I have to keep reminding myself of the age of our friends on stage.
Great times and great shows!! They just seem to love playing in PA!! The parking lot scene was terrific and Shakedown Street was in full force Saturday night!!
and to Taper Rob....not only a Thank you for the streams, but posting the pics as well. Very cool to share....
For those of you who loved the second set, and I did too, you need to check out 7/5 in Stroudsburg. The band was in the zone from the beginning. The China Doll into Fire was about as perfect as it ever has been. Rest of the set was amazing also. Time, Death, it goes on and on. Check it out.
I didn't go to Sherman and I have yet to hear it, but from those I know who went to Sherman (my son for one) and other shows, they said it was a middle of the road show, which for the way this tour played out was pretty damn good anyway. I don't know anyone who saw both Philly shows that didn't think both were awesome, with Sunday being the all-time show of the tour (based on those who saw a few or more shows). I went to 6 (both Coney's, Penn's Peak, Ottawa, and both Philly's) altogether and not one was disappointimg, unless you started comparing the weaker sisters to the much better ones. Still I wouldn't have missed any of them.
@Brent, I was just dropping by to proclaim this Set II is my new favorite Second Set, but now I'm gonna have to go listen to 7/5 again, oh darn . . . ;^)
Thanks for the comparison, love listening to different shows with a purpose.
p.s. just started a thread to discuss the 2nd half of the Terrapin suite played this night over in music talk if you wanna swing by and discuss.
The sound was clear and loud. Stranger was hot and the Shakedown extreme. Alligator had a four star jam. I like money for gas the words were interesting and the music too (its a keeper). magnolia mountain was sweet. Lost Sailor and Saint just incendiary. too good to be true. by the time midnight hour came i was ready to sit down.
Mountains was a spectacular start followed by Stephen. Blues for Allah was intense. It kicked off a segment of music that was like a tornado. Terripan transit, at a siding and terripan flyer just grabbed me and carried me along. They were dripping with sweetness. Bobby had an eerily plaintive voice for the terripan.
let it grow was joyful and a superb dew. Then as if that wasn't enuf we went into an unbroken to the tenth power. The Wheel was a perfect stand alone miracle of music. It was generous and full. It was real.
by the time the NFA call and response was finished I was in heaven for the brokedown.
I have fallen in love with JK since CI. when given the chance he is forceful and present. I have respect for him and his abilities. he is in full bloom.
viva le Furthur. Nokia!
I just want to add that it isn't only what the band brins to us, it is what we give back to the band that makes the energy glow at a show. Are you on your game when you attend a show?
Amen Robin! You nailed it. Together we build a positive energy creation machine...and I literally saw it before my very eyes on Sunday night.
Did anybody hear during the Alligator..."tear down the Fillmore, gas the Avalon" and in the next verse something like "...The hippies???>>>" I cant make it out but very cool
If you are the girl with the long brown hair dancing in the air on 7-11 during set 1 in back of orch sec a wing on phil's side - I still think you're beautiful and I want to see you smile again so say hello
This show was straight up fire.
Don't want to be "that guy" but any idea why this and the Sat show aren't up on Archive yet? Those tapers are usually scary quick at getting shows up. You think recording from back on the lawn produced poor recordings which are taking a while to clean up?
Just itching to download this one.
This one is available via bittorrent at bt.etree.org now.
I had a blast at this show, but actually thought the Sat. night show was even better. I haven't see that one anywhere, so I bought the $17 FLAC download.
A few days late, but what the hell, here's my review:
This was only the second time I'd seen Furthur, the other time during their February tour and haven't really been listening to the streams. Having checked the setlists to the preceding shows, I was definitely looking forward to it though.
Anyhow, I was glad to hear the opening combo of Stranger and Shakedown. Both were a great way to start the show. I found a great spot down in front on Phil's side that was kind of like a GA area, and that was pretty cool. Alligator continued things on a great note. I was definitely getting down by this point. I'd never heard Money for Gas before, and it wasn't that bad. I like Magnolia Mountain, and was glad to hear them do a RA song.
Up till this point, I'd never in my life seen a live Sailor Saint. And I'd be lying if I didn't consider this absence a good thing. I knew though it was just a matter of time until I did though, and on the way up to Philly I figured it would probably be this show that they played it at. That being said, I went up to the seats and had a seat to chill out during Sailor and it was enjoyable, by the time Saint started I was on my feet dancing again. After Midnight was a good way to close out the set. I was also glad that Sailor Saint was played in the first set and wasn't going to waste precious second set time.
During set break, I went up to the top of the venue and met up with some fun loving zoners, whom I'd had the pleasure of meeting up with before the show. Needless to say, hanging with them was one of the highlights of my night!
I found myself down in that area up by the stage again for the beginning of Mtns of the Moon. Great song, and great version, btw. I stayed there for the rocking St Stephen that followed. What's not to like about this song? I couldn't tell you how many shows I've been at where they played this since Jerry died, but I don't think I've once groaned upon hearing those opening notes and accompanying bass chords.
Anyhow, next thing I know, I'm back up at the top of the hill mentioned earlier and Blues for Allah is beginning. Another song I hadn't seen them play before, but one I was glad to have finally caught! By this point, my mind was fully in the mood for something psychedelic and mind-bending and god damn if this tune doesn't fit that bill to a tee! Nice choice, Furthur!
So, towards the end of Allah, I convinced a lovely zoner's husband to join me down by the stage and man did rock the fuck out for that Terrapin stuff! Yet another section of music that I hadn't heard before and this was my favorite part of the night. I'd watched a youtube clip of this band playing this from earlier in the tour and loved it then and loved it even more seeing it in person! So fucking awesome.
The Dew was great as well, and was glad that JK sang it and not Bobby. Maybe I would have preferred Phil singing it, but I don't even know, it was pretty fucking good the way it was.
And you gotta love Unbroken. I was totally into this one. In fact, I was so into it that I had to ask some jackass next to me talking loudly to his friend to please keep it down. He didn't seem to appreciate this and made some smart ass comment. I told some chick next to me that he was an ass, or something, and she said that was her husband. She added that I was really high or something similar. I told her I was sorry she married a dueschbag and moved about ten feet away and didn't have to deal with them anymore. That was really the only annoying part of the show for me and it only lasted about 20 seconds.
The Wheel was great, coming out of Unbroken and everyone seemed super into that one. As NFA began, I moved back to the lawn and hung out there for the remainder of the show.
Always nice hearing Brokedown, despite it being Bobby singing it.
All in all, a great show and one I am definitely glad to have been able to catch. Think I'll try to head up for the Thursday Nokia show, but have a feeling that'll be a hard ticket to get! oh well, we'll see.
Thanks Phil and Furthur!
oh yeah, and totally worth mentioning was that it was great to hear/see/feel the modulus again after at least two years!!
thank fucking god for that!!
The last song of the first set was Midnight Hour. You must have had a brain fart.
lol at blackie
talkers near me get sweat and bumped into while i dance - sorry talkers
I keep having thoughts on this show.......And the lastest is that the second set was especially great because it was for hardcore Heads - Some more obscure tunes that first timers wouldn't have appreciated as much.
He are some photos from the Mann show:

Looks like shots 46-50 are that incredible Morning Dew....very nice.
nice wish i would of heard that morning dew jamm
love that song money for gasoline
they didn't do stagger lee
No, they didn't, but it was on the setlist and $4Gas wasn't, as well as Shakedown and Stranger were reversed. It is actually nice to know they can still change things on the fly.
sweet i saw that on the list...
holy shit, thanks everyone, everyone involved in creating the love stream on this!
this is like love streamed straight from the heart of the cosmos right into my ear and translated into my heart, just a wonderful thing to read and be a part of. god bless y'all who make this happen....see you Sat at Red Rox...
The Greatest thing about the 2nd set of this show is that it was themed, this was the night of the solar eclipse ( although it could not be seen from our skies) The Band chose songs which are about the moon, cosmos, and man's relationship to both, beautiful!
