Jim Weider's Project Percolator rocked the River Street Jazz in Wilkes Barre, PA on friday the 17th and then the Mexicali Blues in Teaneck, NJ last night.
On friday Jim's band opened for a British band called the Egg. Project Percolator did an hour and a half set. Many in the crowd had come to see the Egg perform. During the first few tunes they crowd wasn't sure what to expect but by the midway point of the show they were roaring with approval.
Jim Weider is a "Master of the Telecaster". His main axe is a '51 tele. Jim was a member of the reformed "The Band" from 1985-1999. his band members include 10 time Grammy Award winning drummer Rodney Holmes who along with guitarist Mitch Stein are former members of the Steve Kimock band. Rodney also recorded and toured with Carlos Santana and the Brecker Brothers. he will also be on tour in Europe with Jazz band "Steps Ahead". On bass is Steve Lucas. If you are a Bruce Cockburn fan then you will know Steve from touring with him.
The Saturday night show at the Mexicali had a film crew video taping. This film crew is also working on a documentary about Richard Manuel. As a fan of the Band I'm looking forward to this.
The Band performs songs off of Jim's Percolator cd and music from an soon to be released cd called, "Pulse".
The band plays all instrumental guitar driven music. the highlite of the shows is a slide tune called "Mancry". rodney Holmes does a solo towards the end of the tune that leaves patrons with their jaws dropped to the floor.
I highly recommend seeing this band live!
