Welcome back Joan!
joan nailed it tonight too - fantastic version of sugaree
Did she ONLY sing on Sugaree?
Rob, were any of these songs on our napkin request list besides Attics? teehee
I think so, huh?!? They're doing 'em all for us and now we're not there.
Oh well, I got my Ripple moment AND 5 insane shows. I guess I can't complain, right?
We are all blessed.
What a run!
Wonderful touch! Love seeing Joanie coming up and doing Sugaree!!!

nyce liricko johnno
Till The Morning Comes and CR&S were F-ing epic.
Passanger smoked as did the Sugaree.
Joanie was fantastic. Wish we would get more of her. No headlights tonight but the lady oozes sexuality.
TW stayed on stage just about the whole night. Kinda wish TW would simply disappear.
T.W. IS FANTASTIC
that was a darn good show...
ES
she probably wishes u would simply disappear, jkc...
i wish such remarks would. let phil choose...
dont be dissin TW
The first set was very, very good and about 80 minutes long. The Cold Rain was one of the best tunes I've heard in the 5 shows that I have been to thus far. The second set was not nearly as strong imo until Joan's Sugaree. Jackie was basically invisible this set, aside from doing the 3rd New Speedway in 10 shows. Barry's work on the Playin'>NFA>Playin'was tremendous.
a song being performed 3 times in 10 shows.. that ratio sounds fine to me!
this was a fantastic show - joan's singing on sugaree was superb
the mason's children set the energy level very high to start the set
the minglewood had a wicked good groove to it - you might think of this song as a first set boring-snooze during the dead days, but jackie made it downright seductive - turned my bias against this tune completely around
<<No headlights tonight but the lady oozes sexuality.
does that mean her nipples weren't erect and poking out of her top?
Jamming back into Playin' was the right idea, but not so well executed.
Fabulous to see/hear Joan again; I wish she'd been onstage for more tunes.
Personally, I see no reason for threepeats.
Still waiting for:
Ruben & Cherisse
Stagger Lee
TLEO
Morning Dew
I love Joan, she is a force of nature. Her voice is huge, her stage presence unmatched, she is sexy, even for us girls! I wish I could have been there last night, because I miss seeing her with Phil.
That is no excuse to disrespect Theresa Williams who has done a great job singing with the band. Highlights for me were her vocals on Dancin' in the Street at Penn's Peak, many moments during acoustic sets this Spring, and let us not forget The Music Never Stopped and Peggy-O last weekend.
Funny how everyone was bashing Joan way back when and now can't get enough of her... "you don't know a good thing 'till it's gone". My favorite Dead tour was with her singing- she was stalking the stage front like a female pigpen and brought a stage presence to the band that they hadn't had since he passed away. And she sings her ass off too. Saw her acoustic with just her vox and a guy on guitar and they did a nice Sugaree cover- that's her tune I guess. She sure nailed it when I saw her with the Dead also. Was the best tune of the night. I hope she's with the boys for Spring tour, along with Jimmy Herring, Barry Sless and Jeff Chimenti.
minus Herring plus warren. with due respect to jimmy. And Joan maybe sit in for a few songs, at a few shows. Definately Sless.
I never bashed Joan!
And Theresa is wonderful too. I really would have loved a duet last night.
Killer Phil tour w/Joan was NYC and tower theater in feb 06. Sless with the band.
Good show last night, more of a rocker until the Playin' sandwich, some nice transitions in the 1st set. Joan sung Sugaree nicely. Was thinkin' back of when she guested @ The Dead show @ PNC in '04 and I was mad that she ruined what was a very psychedelic show - no problem with that this time - this show didn't have a psychedelic bone in it's body! But still, a very well done show. Larry played just guitar all night, and Barry stuck to pedal steel all the way up to the Playin' sandwich. I was very pleased they did the Playin' reprise instead of the expected Sugar Mag or Good Lovin' rockin' ending - that'll be for the weekend crowd! It wasn't all that played out though and really lost the crowd's interest (which was nice as I was able to grab a rail spot on the raised floor for at least that short segment of show). I did miss Barry's guitar on Crazy Fingers - despite Phil's amazing Herring-esque fast-notes shredding of the main theme repeatedly (reminds me of the He's Gone from the Fillmore in Denver Summer 06), it still sounded like a wankfest of lead guitar riffs. But this version was much cleaner and well executed compared to the 11/2 version. The CR&S was unreal. We waited forever for the equipment problems after Deep Elum so I yelled "this better be worth it" and we got the cheezy Jackie pop tune (albeit one of the more digestable ones). The train ride home was mildly entertaining as it was full of AC/DC @ MSG concert goers - man I have never seen so many rock & roll POSERS in all my life! Being into "normal" music must really suck! All I could say was "GUITAR HERO ROCKS!!!!!!". All these loudmouths were talkin' shit about "greatest band/ greatest guitarist/ greatest drummer/ etc" - one dude actually mentioned the GD/Jerry and was hooted/ jeered down enthusiastically. I got in on it by saying "yeah but they were only good before 1978, which was before most of you WERE BORN!!!!!!". Also got to tell them I saw the original AC/DC open for Aerosmith in 1978 and they blew Aerosmith off the stage, and that I'd seen Aerosmith in 1976 and they were good then. Wow, really felt like I earned that AARP card I got last year . . .
The first set was the best I have seen out of three shows. HC Sunshine was very good and Till the Morning Comes was awesome. Crazy Fingers was perfect, lyrically too and CRS rocked, not as strong as the Vibes version, but the ending was crazy. Set II started off great with Mason's Phil was rocking, and he was playing DS riffs aftwerwards too. Minglewood was...unexpected but played well.Passenger was smokin and This Wheel on Fire was quite good. Speedway was a totally sing along, we even sang the verse Jacki forgot.Sugaree was great and yes Joan is very sexy. Playing was fierce and focused but the NFA was very losey goosey and the Playing Reprise was a trainwreck. Attics was amazing, I was ready for a ballad, except for one vocal miscue on the last verse by Teresa. Just a side note. I saw Bob on Sunday and he did Attics as an encore plus Samson, Sugaree, Crazy Fingers, Cassidy, NFA all songs I saw with Phil too very interesting. It seemed like they over sold the room too, there was no room at all. See you Sunday
Jennifer from the Mountain Valley Rainbow....
Absolutely right on about the Penn's Peak Dancin'...and 11/3 even kicked it up a notch.
Tuesday was Terry's night all right
She took HC Sunshine, Morning Comes, and Mason's to vocal levels never achieved by GD. Till The Morning Comes is now VITAL!
Great duet with her husband on Attics
and it was great to see Joan again...outstanding Sugaree
THURSDAY was Terry's night
> this show didn't have a psychedelic bone in it's body!
we gotta go over our definitions - mason's children is about as psychelic as it gets - you must think space=psychedelic - but isnt the other one psychedelic?
i'm confused
did it get into your psyche and make you feel all delic?
then that's enough
Having Barry in the mix made such a huge difference. Larry is killing it and the addition of Barry allows Jackie to assume a more supporting/filler role which better suits him. I still catch myself humming "heeere coooomes suuuunshine..." two days later! This was a great show.
