Did JK let it rip on Big Railroad Blues?
WOW...just....WOW! I'm still trying to find my way back from Saturn after these three shows, I think I took a wrong turn and found myself at Uranus at one point.
What a TREAT, to be at the 1st Drums and Space performances by Furthur! :-D
Personal favorites of the 1st set are Cassidy, He's Gone and Magnolia Mountain, I thought they were pretty tight on those. During He's Gone, a people in the seats two rows down lifted a tye-dyed tapestry of Jerry's face, which I thought was an awesome gesture! It was still light out, so hopefully the band saw it.
Second set was as much of a monster as it looks on paper! The whole set flowed like a creek finding its way down the mountain, especially St. Stephen > Drums > King Solomon> Space > Days. Mr. Fantasy was a gem, too, more Jerry emulation by John.
John & Bobby were trading verses during the Jerry ballads, which definitely gives a new level to the experience. I wish they'd let John sing the entire song, but hey, I'll take what I can get.
This show is a MUST HAVE!! I'm definitely keeping an eye on archive for it, but considering how quickly the last two shows were posted, we don't have long for this one, either!
I was a bit surprised they didn't play SOTM, since the moon played a significant part in contributing to the ambiance...too bad, too, because I was looking forward to getting beer poured on me while crying to it.
/sarcasm
im on the east coast and never been fortunate enough to make it to red rocks. watching these setlist pop up..amazing> Summer tour was much of the same songs played...this tour seemed to be a little more diverse..just seeing peoples post and listing to archives..these boys are smoking and cant wait for fall tour...pa..baltimore..nyc Phil break out broken arrow in baltimore ..OK...and a victim or the crime would be hot too
I'm surprised more isn't being posted about last night. I had such a good time. Big songs. Big jams. Big times.
On Big Railroad Blues... When the band came out and were tuning up I turned to my wife and said "Alright! They are going to open with Big Railroad Blues." Maybe one of them were tuning while looking at the setlist or something, but when it popped up to close the set I was happy. It was a first time for me, and one I have been wanting to hear for years.
I thought the second set was amazing. Definitely had my groove on. Fine folks all around. Real friendly vibes. It was just a damn fine night to be alive. I was crackling walking out of that place. One of my best nights ever at Red Rocks.
Had a wonderful time too. A completely different experience than Saturday, which i suppose is the beauty of this band. The early start time and the Sunday vibe lent itself to a much more laid back, emotional experience for me. One thing though Bobby was definitely "off" throughout the night. The only major flub happened during Throwing Stones, but he was definitely hanging by a thread all night, a little behind, missing chords, looking a little lost etc. He seemed more stoned than usual, lol, but it was fine because that was kind of the vibe of the whole evening. And he sang with plenty of emotion. Just wish John had sung (solo) more than ONE song the 2nd set. Otherwise a beautiful show.
Golden Road was super solid, Cassidy took us on a ride, He's Gone was the best version I've heard from this band! Let it Grow and St. Stephen both had jamming which is showing what this "furthur" thing is all about, as it noticeably went to places that I wouldn't hear from the Grateful Dead, courtesy of the young guys and the new energy they bring to the band. If you listen to those jams i think you'll hear the "voice" that is emerging from this configuration, and i like it! Days between was beautifully sung, but by that point Bobby had sung almost every song that set, and I was hoping for a nice send off from John. Not to be, Stella Blue the night before was it. Oh well, thanks everyone for an incredible weekend!

Unless they become commonplace and everynighters. No thank you. I'd rather have another song than know I'm going to get space every night. Didn't care for it back when (the every night aspect), and I don't want it now.
You're speaking of King Solomon's Marbles as the drums, correct?
On archive!!

Hardly the 1st space either.......listen to what comes after Bartering Lines and before St.Stephen from the Nokia on 7/28/10.
<<you're speaking of King Solomon's Marbles as the drums, correct?>>
Well, the drum jam between St. Stephens & King Solomon's, yes. I know it wasn't long enough that most people would list as "Drums" on a set list, though.

I have listened to the 7/28 show, and I know the section you're talking about. So using my definition of "Drums" as I described, that section you pointed out could certainly qualify as "Space." I definitely agree with you on keeping Space an infrequent occurence. Although it is nice to have my senses trippin-out from Space every once in a while, I'd rather be jammin' out for the vast majority of the shows.

First JohnK Big RR Blues on vocals. They did a space in Philly too, 7-10-10, going into Days Between as well.
