no thread started?? zoning in the motel room super 8 headed to lot with AK George in a few..
maybe Terrapin tonight for the brand new crescent moon?
Well played and mellow last night in Mpls. Deeper jamming tonight I suspect? I think they may tease the Fire from last nights Scarlet>....... for a few shows.
we getting any streams on this tour? would love to hear! already counting down until new years....
I would love a stream as well. Loved last night's show but didn't make the run to Ames tonight.
Dream Home....Stream Home.

Music Never Stopped
keep us posted zoners !!
have a killer show !!
The setlist pop-up (last night's) on the front of the philzone says Jay Lane is playing...no, right? Just Russo? I think it also has the backup singers of old...
It's a typo. No Lane. Just Russo.
Last night was random and unpredictable, which is always a good thing. TMNS was an easy call since they r in IA and it has been dormant for a while. Let it Grow is a possibility too b/c of locale. Also, JK is from IA so maybe he gets to call some of his favorites, like Dew.
Nice Stranger open.....won't see that in Chi town now....
Maybe a St Stephen for Stephens Auditorium?

Been listening to a crazy variety of tunes and following the postings. Just listened to Clapton's "Why Does Love Have to Be So Sad?" from when he joined the ABB at the Beacon last year for a few songs. I think Weir could do a lot of cool things with that tune. Kind of a Watchtower that is capable of drifting off to some fun, outer places solar spaces.....
Did JK take any verses on Masterpiece?
it would be sweet..
Glad they got that Masterpiece out of the way before Chicago. I want to go back to 80's setlists like I want a rugby thumping to the nuts.
careful with that axe, eugene
masterpiece>queen jane IMO
Dear Mr Fantasy
man you guys, Masterpiece is a GREAT tune...just listen to the one on Truckin up to Buffalo. Definitely getting the Dylan tunes going this tour, eh? Liberty is cool...has Furthur played that one much?
"a rugby thumping to the nuts."
Well said.

What is IMO?
in my opinion
Ohhh. Masterpiece is greater than Queen Jane. I prefer Masterpiece as well. I saw a great one in L.A. perhaps in 89? Not sure when but Jerry really wailed.
I saw an early Queen Jane in Hampton, then a few more. It isn't one of my favorites. IMO the lyrics held back the music.
>Fire on the Mountain
this could get real interesting now....
any kind streams?
yeah, man...Jerry sang his heart out on backing vocals on Masterpiece...when I painnnnnnnt (bobby), WHEN I PAINNNNNNNT (Jerry)...MY MASTERPIECE (BOTH)!!!!
Jerry played it solo, too, much longer versions, more jammed out in the middle, the back-up singers...good tune.
Cool, too, that the original Dylan version is not one of his more famous or well-known songs...
anyone know why there are no streams???

DID ANYBODY ELSE SEE PHILS KNEES UNCOTROLLABLY WOBBLING DURING CASEY JONES!!!!!?????
Just wondering why the boys are playing 4 nights in a row in 3 different cities??? That seems like a heavy load for them. Not much down time to recharge between shows for Phil and Bob.
They travel in the lap of luxury, I doubt it's any strain on them at all.
What is Big Bad Blues? Is it a new song?
It's ahunter tune, the boys played it at Red Rocks on saturday.
Wlewis, my friends and I did INDEED see Phil going his "knee bends". Hysterical!!
Dude thats how Phil FEEEEELS the music, come on! you think thats funny, check out my vid of Phil completely jumping and stomping at Eugene during st stephen....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AnLQYOc_7nU
DID ANYBODY ELSE SEE PHILS KNEES UNCOTROLLABLY WOBBLING DURING CASEY JONES!!!!!?????
YES!
Question for someone whose been to recent show.
my wife and I have 3rd row for UIC, But are seats are the 3 and 4th in from the far left side, philzone..
But from video the organ? seems to be set up front stage right which would block our view of Phil at least and Bob possibly. Anybody been up front and knows the set up?
thx
on a Tuesday in Iowa, That was fun!
Parking grate, Venue grate , weather grate, We are professionals.
"But from video the organ? seems to be set up front stage right which would block our view of Phil at least and Bob possibly. Anybody been up front and knows the set up?"
You shouldn't have a problem seeing Phil, and I wouldn't think you'd suffer any chance of not seeing Bob. Jeff has been set back a bit, almost parallel with Russo. I'm betting you're safe.
Organ was well back on stage in mpls on Monday. Bobby and Phil up front. I think the sight lines will be ok. A big enough venue to spread the stage out as needed. Have fun
It's cool seeing the stage from the side or above etc, cause Phil is always out there so early...then the pre show kiss with Jill...
Just exactly perfect.
Bring us more bombs!!
Hope to see u in NC next year!!!
The venue, lot, and show were all great. But, I gotta say, the bar scene SUCKED. It was a bit depressing. The show sure made up for it!
bberad76...i know it my man...as a bassist people always ask me about whyy i move around so much and i simply tell them "bass aint in your hands fingers or mind--it a full body experience" especially when your melodically being thrown around the universe by phil..GREAT VIDEO...loved cutherbert and loved those shows
Here's my revue....
Furthur Iowa~Ames, IA Stephens Auditorium Nov. 9th, 2010
Wow, this show was ~HOT~ when they put this venue up they were thinking one thing ACOUSTICS. This was by far the best sounding acoustics I've heard yet (of course Red Rox is up there) but this had the band sounding almost surreal it was so good.
The lot scene was kinda weird, kinda cool at the same time. The Weird part was we got there around 4:20pm and there was a big parking lot (Probably for the Iowa State Cyclones Football Games) but there wasn't a whole lot of heads there yet. It was very lax and chill. The ratio of "seasoned deadheads and touch-new heads was about 1 in 4. We got there and grabbed a picnic bench close by and had a blast. As we were going in the theater, a very short walk, I was noticing how steep the theater looked. The security there was a joke, I mean they didn't even scan my ticket as I floated in the venue like an Easy Wind.
The cool thing though, we get to our seats (about 9th Row) and I look around and see a beautiful Theatre type setting with very steep balcony's. The venue had 2500 capacity and it was nice. Looking at the new tie-dyed backdrop on the stage and I was in heaven. The band played flawlessly this night with the highlight for me being two songs Phil Bomb into The Other One and a heartfelt Black Peter from Bobby.
A few of the songs JK and Bobby were trading verses and I think this was really helping Bobby to be able to belt out his signature interjections (like "Come and See" during Black Peter!!) and noticed this works very well to not strain our Bobby!!!!!!
As usual Jeff Chimenti was one of the stars, but in the mix they didn't have him up very loud (they tend to let him out of the cage only on select nights) but I'm assuming it's not going to be this way in Chicago.
Chibear and I were talking about this show and both have seen at least 14 Furthur shows or more each. We both agreed that this was by far the best acoustical set-up venue yet, and the band really played one of the better shows we've seen. The venue ("Saint" Stephens Auditorium deserves all of it's hype. The weirdest part about the shows was the crowd.....Even Phil sayed something like (paraphrase here) Nice to see all the new faces out here, (hehehe in his Phil chuckle) during the donor rap. We looked around the venue all night and only saw the Old School Deadheads dancing there asses off (including myself) and the rest just foot tapping and getting into it. I don't mean they weren't having fun, just didn't know what to do. The Crowd energy was nothing like it was in Red Rocks, Furthur Fest or Chicago last year. But I think it proves that Furthur is passing the torch to the younger generation! So all in all its a good thing.
I danced my ass off. In fact during set break, one of the young kind girls sayed hey man I've never seen anyone dance with such passion and groove like that until tonight. I said, this is your first Dead related show isn't it...she just nodded. So I guess it was inevitable that the encore Touch of Grey was very fitting. That was the only song I was disappointed with...not so much at how they played it, but more because being the selfish fan I am I wanted something more old school.
After the show we hung around the lot, which was a pretty groovin shakedown for another 2-3 hours just groovin. Didn't see nary a security guard once and everyone had a very chill vibe.
Overall, I give this show a B+ more for the crowd energy than how the band played....Now, time for CHICAGO BABY!!!!!! WOhooooooo.

>>>The ratio of "seasoned deadheads and touch-new heads was about 1 in 4
You do realize that "Touch" was more than 20 years ago at this point. How long does it take to be "seasoned"?
Don't you mean: ratio of grumpy old fucks to energetic partiers?
Yes I do realize...but you know what I meant. I guess we should call this new group Furthur Heads.
Wookie types? or just young people that want to freak out as much as we did?
Why is it worth mentioning? I love having crazy energy at shows. It is what I loved about GD shows in the 80's and 90's. I get a bit frustrated that so many folks (not you) are so militantly against the young freaks that come to shows that aren't much different than the freaks that have been coming to GD shows from the beginning. The scene needs the energy IMO. It may be sketchy but that's the nature of the beast.
How about the "Furth-herd"?
Coined by Me on this day, Thursday, 11/11/10, 11:08 AM CST...
Lol that's a good one!
There were definitely some wookies at this show too...but none of the wooks went into the show, just soiled the parking lot. The "young people" wanting to freak out were in the show. They could use some lessons on letting go of their bodies, they seemed timid to let that energy out.
I love the new generations of heads, I mean I didn't see them till the 80's and I was passed the torch.
>>>They could use some lessons on letting go of their bodies
They should hit some raves
Furthur-herd, I like that, Guess I'm one of those, although I saw phil and friends and the dead in 09. either way, would trade my left nut to be on tour instead of in class. Glad the boys are on fire, seems like they picked back up right where they left off.
I saw Mpls and Ames and much preferred Mpls - seemed like the boys really responded to a sold-out crowd and bouncing balcony scene in a metro area to start tour much more so than they did the decidedly older and less attentive Iowa crowd. Set2 of Mpls was on par with the 3/3/10 chiacgo throwdown- jams passing back and forth like bright balls of energy - music totally playing the band - Jeff and Bobby going full-out and John giving us a Comes a Time that jerked tears out of almost everyone there. After some great jamming to open Set2 in Ames, the set really died down with the China>Rider (i know that sounds weird) and the Bobby Black Peter> Feelin Allright (please QUIT playing this - it sounds like a goddamn oldies jukebox/FM radio pander to people that I dont want to party with at Furthur shows) combo killed all momementum to the point where GDTRFB>WBYGD couldnt get it going for me afterwards- touch encore was a throwaway from a goup of guys that wanted to get the hell out of town. I know that not every show can be magic, but Mpls sure was and i feel damn lucky to have seen that show...also feel damn lucky to have met phil in the hotel the morning afterward and get my pic with him!!!! I guess I was feelin allright about that. Good luck in St. Louis tonight heads!!

DID ANYBODY ELSE SEE PHILS KNEES UNCOTROLLABLY WOBBLING DURING CASEY JONES!!!!!?????
Ha! Ha! Someone posted a youtube video of Casey Jones in Ames... looks to me like phil is rockin out and having fun!!! and what a fast Casey Jones
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pdKarGB3CE4
this is late: but glad to see Ames treated you folks alright.
the fact is that that town can be way up tight. I'm surprised on one hand that things were so lax. And on the other hand, since a lot of folks stumble around in TV-induced Trance Land there, I am not suprised at all. They were probably thrilled to have such a big drawing act in their kind Stephen's Aud.
I've said it once, I'll say it again: that is one of my most favorite venues to see a performance in or perform in.
It was designed supposedly to be acoustically perfect. Nice pic of you and PL Doc. Thanks for sharing. I like the sunburst right above ol Phil. I hope Jill or someone saw that. It paints him in a rightful light.
