Just got back....Holy Crap I am spent!!!!!!! What an amazing show. The fact that I was in 1st row center notwithstanding (but worth mentioning), this almost rivaled 3/3 at Auditorium. I LOVED the song choices and they killed it!
Low energy. Not anywhere near as ass-kicking as last night. Still, there were many moments that were well worth the price of admission. THANK YOU for a real good time. Good luck Cincinnati!
Wouldn't change a thing. Not anything.
My God they what will they play tonight in Cinci?
ROB HUNT LESHED CALL ME 201-925-1290....BILL
rob hunt leshed call me 201-925-1290 bill
Was there. It was great. They play flawlessly. Sound great, we were close. The Dew was epic and Get Back was nice. All and all it was a great show. Good scene. Alot of youngsters spinning on the floor and upper corners of the halls. Good to see that the scene lives on. Did I mention the Dew was epic!!!
man that Get Back really threw me for a loop out of caution. the Tom Thumb's>Dear Prudence>Alligator>Hard to Handle and then last night's Mason's>Passenger>Caution>Get Back strings are just amazing for the first sets. I felt like the energy was just as high, if not higher last night
These two shows was good vibes everywhere. This was a larger crowd and everyone was having a great time. The sound was dialed in from the beginning. Both nights were good, but I disagree with my man that it was better than the 2nd night Auditorium show. That show was non-stop raw power!!
Don't take my word for it, get a copy.
Here we go...
Minglewood - not bad...odd choice for opener for me.
Dire wolf - JK killed this one...listen to the leads. County style right into Mama.
Mama Tried - good, had that original intro
Doin that rag - cool
Masons Children - classic tune, well played
Passanger - alright
Caution - cool
Get back - well played, is this first time??
Sailor> -mellow opener, good
Saint - wanted more punch
Mt Song - low point, not a fan. good jam into rider.
I Know You Rider - second set starts, place is going crazy
Morning Dew - missed Jerry, but honestly JK played it really good. He sang with heart and the organ pump the tune up. Very, very Kind.
Unbroken Chain - phil got down
Terrapin Suite - fuckin amazing!!! Highlight of the show. Man, it was ON.
Eleven - good, really see phil take control.
Other One - phil took off, this was one of the best other ones I have heard this band do.
E: Sat Night - classic closer
They might not always be the best at what they do, they are the only ones doing it. Overall, two great shows and good times all around. Sure, it had moments of highs and lows, but I will take this bands lows over anything that is out there. This music makes the world a little brighter and bring us all together for one more saturday night.
see you at the next show.
Thanks Chicago Joe
Rotation InfoGraphic updated for tonight's show: http://bit.ly/d8kICf
thanks Joe...I knew you guys would get that UnbrokenDew, but it was Dew Unbroken instead!
Also agree that from a setlist perspective you still cant top 3/3/10
-Doc
Let me rephrase what I wrote earlier. This show didn't surpass the 3/3 show, but, for me, it was the ultimate follow up to it. I don't get to tour like the old days, so I get to see them primarily only when they come to Chicago. the March shows, and clearly the 3/3 show, were sublime. how to you top that setlist?? With that, last nights show allowed me to see fantastic renditions of songs that have eluded Chicago the last few years: Dew, Sailor>Saint, The Full Terrapin Suite they started this year, etc...
I am just very thankful for the fact that they still share themselves with all of us, and these shows were such treats to see.
Photos to follow...
Joe and King Bee said it all! 3/3/10 show was not surpassed, but both shows this time around were breathtakingly amazing. The sound Friday for me was not good, but last night it was perfect. The fact that I was up close and center on the main floor may have helped there, close enough to feel the heat when the lights swooped over us! The mix was perfect, and so were the sightlines. The guys are so obviously having a grate time up there, and sharing it all with us. Phil in particular kept grinning into the audience. Mellow crowd, lots and lots of fine people. Wonderful experience!
Musical highlights, if I had to pick: Friday, the 2nd set ebb and flow through Viola, Dark Star, and Shakedown. Saturday, a tie between Dew and Terrapin.
I add my thankfulness that this band is still gracing us with so many outstanding moments. Every tour, every appearance, every note is a gift!
As a deadhead, I am jealous of chicago this weekend. As a farve-hating Packers fan living in mpls, I am thrilled with them! Sweet weekend for the windy city..also somewhat selfishly releived that 3/3 was not surpassed wihtout my ass in the audience!
-Doc
Joe, Thanks for the ride back from the show last night. It was good talking to you - see you down the road.
Likely the most surreal thing I have ever seen at a show:
Phil Jamming
Either deep into his groove or checking out setlist below - you decide
The dynamic duo
Nice pics King Bee.....here's one from a little furthur back:

How do you post pics and make them show up in the thread?

Phil sure did a lot of smiling on this night. Makes me feel good, almost as good as he does when he sings. I love when he sings. He shares every bit of his heart in those words. Someone maybe doing it better? Not from my perspective.

Jason, you are welcome....nice to meet you.
I just downloaded the shows....this band rules!!
3-3-2010 might always be the bench mark. At least for us Chicago heads. 11-13-2010 could have got there but just missed. Get Back was fine but kind of feels like they are playing one for the husbands or wives that were dragged to the show by their dead head better half. Stick a GD song in there (hell even a deal) and it could have rivaled the first set back in March.
The lost sailor > SOC was very good. There was still room for more Bobby freakout during sailor and the jam in SOC was a bit short... still very very good and very welcome by the folks near me.
I like hearing the new songs and Mt. Song reminded me of when I first got VOTC or Foolish. However I am not sure there is as much room for Mt. Song to grow. I did like it and it was in a good spot.
That Jam before IKYR took me way out there. Kind of forgot where I was and only snapped out of it when the nice fella next to me felt I needed to know that "they are going to play rider! they are going to play F***ing I KNOW YOU RIDER!"
Unreal jams during UBC and Terrapin? The question mark is because it could just be me. I have the show now and I am going to listen to it but last night it seemed long and jammed out.
I love Chicago cops. They seemed very laid back as normal. Could have let it go a little longer but all in all they left us alone and I spent what I could to help you all get down the road.
Best of the 4 shows I saw this fall and from now on I will never miss night two in Chitown.
Jack straw some nice shots, what kind of camera are you using? If you don't mind I would love to ask you some pointers. I have a new Samsung 12 mega pixel and still not getting as high quality as I would like.Curious what settings you are using. Email is on my profile.
Thanks
Thanks Ted. E-mail sent.
KingBee, were you shooting Canon and there with wife & kid? I was taking with a photog before the show who actually had a pass and got to go up front. If that was you send me your e-mail, I have some pics to send.
JackStraw - wasn't me. I did have front row seats though so the photos were unimpeded. I actually took the photos with one of those new Sony NEX-5 cameras - sort of a subcompact/SLR hybrid. Not quite the quality of my Nikon but I was pretty happy with the results and its just so damn small and convenient. Takes 1080 HD video as well (I swear I don't work for Sony).
I'd swap a few photos if you think ours might complement each others...
security this night was outrageous getting into the venue...had my stash in a little bag against my junk and after being violated he took my shit...and this was immediately after his cohort next to him told the dude he was searching "put your shit against your balls im not gonna touch you there"
