Anyone looking for a pair on the floor, about 15 rows back? A friend of mine hurt her back and can't go. Face plus costs is $75 a piece.

so looks like they took the stage around 8:00 pm in Reading. Is that earlier then the norm? curfew in Reading perhaps?

I was hoping they would go on around 830ish in Baltimore.

Dan - I think they generally take the stage pretty close to the posted show time. I think 8 at the latest, probably earlier.

This will be my one an only show on this tour, driving up from Raleigh.

We have a good shot a few of these; Viola, Dark Star, Eyes, St Stephen and Shakedown. They have a large repetoire, so who knows.

furthur.net says doors open at 6:00, show starts at 7:30. I bet they start pretty close to 7:30 (missed most of first set in Redmond WA because I assumed they started at 7:30 like the previous night in Eugene... they started at 6:30 that night).. I am still kicking myself on that one.

Tonight was the closest show to me (Myrtle Beach) I just saw that tickets are still available, but it is a NINE hour drive (with out problems on 95, ya right) doesn't look good. We thought about it, sleep in the conversion van, feel like were 20 again, but wouldn't make the doors till 10pm, too late for the show. Why didn't I think about this yesterday???? Guess I have to wait to see them again next year

Black Peter bringdown in the ballad slot I know bobby is taking it every other night but - Bobby, will you please just let John sing the jerry ballad at this stage of the second set? The simple fact is that he does them better than anyone in the world, including you. There are plenty of ways for you to pay tribute to JG on a nightly basis without you singing those songs. sing your own songs my man - you have plenty of them and we love them.
-Doc

"Sweet!! The full Hey Jude or just the Coda?"
No thanks...please don't ever play that again.

I rather listen to Doc sing Bobby singing Jerry tunes.

yo Doc, dont tell Bobby what he should and should not sing. He knew Jerry for 30 years. There is more than just a nice voice going on here.I would much rather hear Bobby praise his brother than JK. IMHO. Please do not take offense, but there is alot more to it than meets the eye--or ear. Bobby actually does a nice job on Black Peter. Remember, BW and JG played together for a long time and Bob want to pay a tribute to his brother in a heart felt ballad. Thats important to him and to the music as it survives after Jerry. Peace bro...

Just a little bit for now. Just got home after Reading and Baltimore. Me and the wife! Fun times and some much needed inspiration as life is a little tough right now.
Both shows were tight. Lots of improvisation and great jamming happening in all 4 sets. The set lists say very little, these last two nights had very little throw away time. No songs just mailed in. For example seeing Greatest Story in a first set list isn't going to make too many minds bend, but last night the band jammed that song fanfuckingtastic!! A first set highight; who would of thunk it!
Hightlights from tonight: The jam between/throughout/during Mr. Fantasy & Hey Jude. John singing the Mr. Fantasy refrain while the rest of the band and the audience are heavy into the Hey Jude chorus. Also THE RIDER!!!!! That song moved my wife right out to the aisle so she could dance as BIG as this RIDER was. Can't remeber the last time Bobby really had me ALL the way in the palm of his hand, he did on this night during Looks like Rain. A ton of other highlights certainly ran throught the second set and the first set was quit good also. I'd have to say tonight was a little better for me, but that is really a moot point, both nights were great. Chementi was so hot during the second set tonight! It reminded me of when Brent used to take over shows sometimes.
I've seen multiple shows from early 2010, then the two Philly shows this summer and now two this November. It has been great fun to watch this Band progress. John and Bobby look at ease with each other now. John seems WAY more relaxed to me now than he did in Feb.2010.
To me this Band is now playing at the level that the Q used to bring, and dare I say the Grateful Dead. The Greatful Dead on their best nights certainly is still tops in my book and nothing comes close, but this current music is quite awesome in its own right.

Just got up after driving home after the show. First show since the Mann shows this summer. This was a lot of fun. Not my favorite setlist by a long shot. Some of my least favorite songs bunched together. Hey, we all have them. But songs that are not my favs: Foolish Heart, Pete, Touch, Loser and just not a fan of Phil singing Eyes. Highlights were BTW, HtH, and US Blues to end the set was really nice. What I found interesting was it seemed they were just playing songs. It was more a "poppy" show than a spacey jammy show. Not necessarily a bad thing, but not my preference. It might have been the least spacey/jammy "Dead" show I have ever seen. I think Worcester is in for a spacey night. Dark Star, Stephen, Viola. But I would not mind if they saved a couple of those for MSG as I will be there and not in Worcester.

Sound was really clear for the instruments, but vocals were not mixed right, no up front enough. And Phil was not loud enough in the mix.

And what is the deal with people talking/ shouting non-stop. I had a great seat in 106, right off stage right. But through almost the entire first set there were 3 "conversations" going on non stop on all sides of me. Ended up back about 4 sections on the right side in the first row. And finally could enjoy the show. Sound was a bit better furthur back too. Place was not even half full.

They were "On" from the first note. 1st set was fantastic, especially through Black-Throated, which was the highlight of the show for me. They went 50 minutes before stopping (after Loser).

Second set had some of that "let's dump the stuff we still have to play this tour on this smallish crowd" feel to it. (I had been predicting this, since there was very little, if any letdown on the setlists until now.) But, there were a few chestnuts in there, and everything was extremely well done.

We were amazed by the strenght of Bob's voice last night. He hasn't sang this well in 15 years. B-TW was truly incredible, both vocally and instrumentally. There probably isn't anything they can't do due to vocal problems right now. I'd love to see them try Memphis Blues Again this tour.

Chimenti was given too much room last night, imo; I think every second set song had a too-long solo by him. He's good and all, but this ain't a piano band. Ultimately that's a minor complaint, but he shouldn't be taking up that much space. Screw democracy.

Summary: great first set, very good second set despite some of the song selected. Anyone going the next 3 shows should be getting very psyched. Glad I'm going to NY!

I want to express my support Bob's efforts. I think he does a great job on the Jerry songs, and I am not alone. Even Bob critics refer repeatedly to songs Bob sang as show highlights. (Dear Prudence no less!) Apart from earning the right to sing those songs by his history and the quality of his work, I have real concerns about JK as the Front Man for this band, which is what people are talking about when they suggest John sing the Jerry songs. The media does not know what to make of this band, and they need this extra boost. I saw mixed reviews (at best) in the major media (at least up through RR) or nothing at all. One fellow had a blog in Baltimore criticizing the paper there for having nothing special to say. (I did try to add something, but it took them too long to get me an ID.) I see a real positive trend in music blogs lately, but word is trickling out. This band has an amazing story to tell, and I am hoping for a spectacular run of some span of years, This level of success requires a compelling story about who this band is, where they came from, and why they are hanging in there. This is a job for Bob, I believe, and his relationship with Jerry is a big part of that story. Bob can do better, but in some measure this involves giving this band a public persona that rises above the negative side of Dead history (and the background of some recent shows).

you WANT to see this band play Foolish Heart with John at the lead. It's awesome.

>>>Which 8?

Foolish Heart (lame song)
Smokestack (boring)
Cosmic Charlie (they never play it well)
Around and Around (again, boring and predictable)
Hey Jude (not interested)
Money For Gasoline
Looks Like Rain (boring and cliche)
Revolution (another predictable cover song)

It's not that I dislike the songs, other than Foolish Heart, it's just that I'd strongly prefer others.

Very high energy and tight night, John was on fire. A lot of songs that I don't especially want to hear (especially the second set) but played really well. Phil owned Eyes, he and Jeff had some great stuff going on there, LLR was classic Bob cheese done to perfection, Hard to Handle had a great boogie jam in it, Rider peaked and the set should have ended there, A&A was almost a tag on after that. Jam out of the blues material on the first set into CF was really good and everything through Money for Gasoline smoked, US Blues seemed a little ragged and you could tell it was time for a break. Reading was more of a psychedelic mind f#@k, last night high energy good time. Easy encore to bolt on and neat the crowd. Two really good night, love this band.

The thing that makes the Grateful Dead who they are, is how they play, not what they play. It's all about the live experience, and the issues are simple: good night versus bad night. I am wondering if you could magically hear a 70's GD show today, who would complain about the setlist, or who sang what, or how Phil's voice was. It's kind of like going to a world series game and complaining that the score was 1 to 0, because there was not enough hitting. What is absolutely true about this band is that whatever they play, they are playing extremely well. I never would believe that a highlight tune for me would be King Solomon's Marbles...not in a million years. But the fact that it jammed out like no other tune I've heard since 1972 tells me this band understands what we want. How can ANYONE not want to hear a jammed out smokestack lightening??? Especially how well this band is playing. As far as I can tell, the set list is simply the luck of the draw, and you have to get on the damn bus and go to a few shows. Evaluate the gig as 10 shows at 3 hours....30 hours of music. If you can only attend one, and all you catch are 10 songs, how can you possibly rate the whole gig on that? Lets all try to remember, what we love most about this band. If you want to hear your favorite top 10 tunes, go a Brittany Spears concert. Thats just not the way this works. There a band beyond f-king description!

they are bringing music to the people and that is great. Bob Weir jumping around, Phil dropping bombs and a bunch of kids living their fantasies out on stage. What would we have to do on a Wednesday is they weren't out there? In this vein this was terrific, it seems a bit nostalgic and every show has it's moments (jam during Pride) for me last night. The fact is there will never be another epic or original show since we know who drove that horse. Good musicians carrying on the tradition and providing a venue for people to let their freak flags fly. Worth my 60 bucks a couple times a year for sure..
the one thing that struck me was the security guard was dodging all night finally knew the words to one song and smiled during touch..

"It is amazing to me how different peoples opinions can be... I thought everyonge LOVED Black Peter and Loser amd Foolish Heart.... And phil singing Eyes-- guess I was wrong"

It is weird really. I saw someone wrote regarding the Reading show how bummed they were when Playin' opened the second set, and I thought to myself how could anyone be bummed to hear those notes. I love that song, perfect mix of straight rock and wild jamming on a good night.

I will say I vastly prefer songs I am not terribly enamored with played with intensity and tightness to my favorite songs played lacking something. And for the most part, they nailed everything they did last night. A few of the piano solos got a bit off track in the second set, but I enjoyed the hell out of the night and cannot wait for MSG.

Particular highlights were funkiness of the Smokestack Spoonful sandwich, the over the top Black Throated Wind, which built to an incredibly intense finish.
The jam between verses of Cucamonga was a particular highlight, almost a song unto itself is sounded so different from the lyrical parts. LLR was Bobby in fine form. And they did play the hell out of Foolish Heart, really was a fantastic version, just not a song I put high on my list of songs to hear, but they nailed it. Really might have been the best played song of the night.

>>>I wonder how anyone who complains about predictable sets woud have handled 69?

Furthur sure as hell ain't GD circa 1969!

Predictable sets are one thing, predictable songs are another. A 69 set can be predictable in a very good way. I like that type of set--give me full-on raging psychedelia every time and I'm happy.
A song like Around and Around is predictable, as is Revolution, Hey Jude, etc..I prefer the songs that have the largest possibility of veering into the strange.

Also, now that I live in Europe and see very few shows--NYE will be my only show this year--I want to hear my favorite songs. Is that wrong? If I hear others played well, that's cool. We all have preferences. If you're open to any song at any time and find it as satisfying as a Dark Star Viola sandwich, more power to ya.

It was simply Blazin' from beginning to end. I have seen a few of these and Baltimore totally rocked.

If you couldn't get into it, well OK, but it ROCKED.

Sound was about Flawless. Lights were perfect. Cute chicks everywhere, and cold beer cheap.

Complainters, give it a listen.

I'll forever be completely dumbfounded by those who don't enjoy watching Phil sing, in particular Eyes. How his big smile and obvious, great enthusiasm for the music and words aren't entirely infectious is beyond me. Just look at him when he sings. If he doesn't light up the room and your heart with his pure joy, then I'm at a loss as to what will. The notes/key/whatever are such a low priority to the sincerity and energy he brings to the microphone. Different strokes for different folks, but I simply cannot understand why he doesn't affect some people in the most beautiful of ways. When he takes a step towards the mike, I also take a step forward.

Phil always sings in tune and personally I feel his voice as gotten better over the years, way ahead of what it was in the 80's. It's the quality of his voice his voice that people can't get over.

looks like mixed reviews....and it is OK not to say every show is killer. I always hated GD reviews from people who would never give an honest assessment of the music. This doesn't mean you don't love the band...it was not your song choice or did not have the same energy. I am grateful that this band is here and I will see as many shows as possible...let the recording decide which shows sounded the best...good advice, Bro.

That all makes perfect sense Spencer. But you're forgetting that Bobby gets to choose which songs he wants to sing because he and Phil run the show. I'd rather hear John sing the Jerry ballads as well, but he isn't making those decisions. The fact of the matter is that for all that John brings to the show (and he brings a lot, I've been made a believer) he's still a hired hand and if Bob says "I'm singing Black Peter" then that's how it goes. It's a take it or leave it situation, and I'm not going to stop seeing this band just because every now and then I have to hear Bob sing a song that I think John should be singing.

BTW, anyone notice that they did the "See here how everything" bridge twice Wednesday night?

i loved black peter the other night and yes they did do the refrain twice...i understand the bob rule ..and thats what makes john better...when he gets a chance to shine he delivers...i just listened to wharf rat from readin and its as good as it gets...and im going to make a crazy statement right now...ive been to 350 with jerry and 100 without and i dont care what other people are going to say about this comment....the wharf rat the other night was just as good if not better than any jerry wharf rat i ever heard...to me the difference is the backup singers and johns clear crisp voice and playing that hasnt been ravaged by 30 years of cigs and heroin....and i love jerry...but sometimes people do come up with a way to build a better mousetrap...i met him after the show and we speceifically talked aboiut let it grow into wharf rat and he was a nice friendly soft spoken guy who couldnt keep saying thanx for the praise enough...ha stood there and let us take pics and sign autographs and laugh and listen to what we were saying...he didnt have to do any of that...he knows he has impossible shoes to fill and imo he does it with flying colors...my only regret is that they should have doen this 5-7 years ago...and for the people who bash ..which is your right...i say good keep bashing and keep people from going...just makes it easier for my friends and i to get better tickets and smaller venues...see you all tomorrow

My one and only show, disappointing setlist. I agree with St. Stephen, at least 8 songs that I wished weren't played. For me the highlights were BTW, Pride, Eyes and Rider. Rider, was awesome, but it was too little and way too late to save the second set. They had so much other material to play. The setlists have been great on this tour up to this show. Bummer for me. Don't get me wrong, they can plan and did play. But the song choices sucked, especially the 2nd set. Foolish Heart to open, c'mon. Then it just get worse. Cosmic Charlie has been played at my last 3 shows, I like it but that's too much and it was in the wrong spot. LLR, time to hit the head and get a beer. Hard to Handle is okay, maybe it will pick up? No chance. Dear Mr Fantasy, now I'm really depressed. I don't ever need to hear this song again. Hey Jude was laughable. Eyes is good, thought we might have a chance to a stong end, but Black Peter was another bore. Rider was as good as it gets. There's no way around it, this setlist sucked big time.

Grateful Bill, Im on board. Ive got as many shows of both as well. I have seen 13 of these this past year, and the three shows I just saw (Chicago, Chicago, and Cincy) were as great, tight, well played, jammed out, as anything I've ever heard. I could honestly say that there was not ONE single moment that they were not on their game. It really doesn't matter who sings what, the music is playing the band right now...Phil is absolutely just not believable...and the three new guys are maybe the best musicians the Dead have ever seen outside of the group. The Grateful Dead invented the jam band phenomena, and Furthur is proving that what they intended to do is far greater than perhaps what they actually have done. Jerry once said in an interview that they were never really quite there...they were always 6 months behind what they were trying to get to.... Well right now, at least, Furthur is spot on the money.
