From Dead.net: "Preparations are going well for tomorrow’s live broadcast from Worcester."
Anybody know WHERE this will be broadcast?
iirc.... sirius radio- grateful dead station
Anticipate but i hate the wait! Because its not everyday that the best comes to town ...all those special people hang around... worms will represent!
Lots of stuff left to take for a ride tonight....
Creem Puff War
Terrapin Flyer
Blues for Allah
Born Cross Eyed
Oh yea
A China > Rider would be a whicked pissa
I'd be lovin' a Warren Wharf Rat...
where did you read that this would be broadcast??
"Sirius XM's Grateful Dead Channel will take you inside select live performances of the upcoming tour, and resident experts David Lemieux and Gary Lambert will give you the play-by-play from backstage and beyond. The first live broadcast hits the airwaves on Saturday, April 18th from the DCU Center in Worcester, MA. " - dead.net
The buzz has been on the air waves for some time now. Gather your buds and have a listening party, the show starts at 6pm Standard Time, on the Sirius/XM Grateful Dead Channel
Cheers
thanks for the info...am stoked because i'll actually be at this one!!!! here's hoping they make the first broadcasted show of the tour special!!!! what time have the shows been starting??
From what I have seen, 7:00 PM is the starting time for most of the shows, (correction from early post xm broadcast starting at 8pm standard time, I was thinking backwards from mountain time zone) so the show will be around 2/3 over when the broadcat starts...... just enough time to get stoked over the setlist
Just signed up for the free trial on Sirius.I know what I'm doing tonight.. STOKED!!
[so the show will be around 2/3 over when the broadcast starts ]Does this mean its not being broadcast live.. Really??
from what I have gathered from all of this, the show in Worcester (eastern time starting around 7:30). The xm plug said the show would start, at 7:00 mtn time (assuming 8 standard, 9 eastern? ) Just passin' on what I had heard.
Thanks Rob, appreciate the info..I'm excited no matter when they start the broadcast
I just heard a new update on xm and the time is set to broadcast, 8:00 PM EASTERN.
So I guess I shouldn't check the updates into the broadcast starts. They must have to delay it.
so no delays on the sirius feed cool
here we go show started

You beat me to it Autumn. My fingers are having trouble keeping up with my brain.
must time for another puff
Any one know if the Sirius feed and the live discs are the same mix? Sounds nice
this is so amazing to hear this real time...truly this is where technology shines...sharing with the masses as the very show is happening. I love! That duprees had me shaking my booty!
now warren . . lots of vocal sharing
Althea (bw and WH trading lyrics)
Not sure about that Kev. What will be funny is to see how many ppl type "looks weak on paper"
SO far nothing is weak from what I can hear.
this is not weak at all
tonight has the making of till the morning comes
Wish I could hear it! But it is fun hanging out waiting to see the next song typed! Althea... cool.. Had a feeling that was coming tonight : )
So two more songs given theyv'e been doing 7 a set? China>Rider? lol
No joke David, seen plenty of shows in the 80's that looked extremely weak on paper but smoked, and the opposite where you would love to have been there, but then listen to the tapes and realize that you didn't miss much
Micheal you can sign up for a free trial with Sirius.
I'm tracking the songs which I will be more than happy to share with when the tour is over.
So far 67 no repeat tunes
This is definately NOT weak
Sounds damn good here in West Va!! Michael: quickly go tp XM online and sign up for a free trial. I signed up 2night and am listening to it there.

phil or bobby vox????
Birdsong but no lyrics yet to confirm
here we go !!
>>Any one know if the Sirius feed and the live discs are the same mix? Sounds nice<<
The SBDs sound much, much better. If you're listening online without premium membership, you're listening to maybe 96kbs, and if you pay for premium online membership, its 128kbs. We're talking poor MP3 quality. If you're listening to the satellite dropped into a radio, it's probably slightly better; but you still aren't approaching anywhere near lossless. There's still a load of compression and lossy-ness.
And I suddenly want to make love. BIRDSONG!
bobby
Birdsong settles into the back end of the first set as it was played so many times....
bw ,wh trading vocals
warren/bobby luv fest
thanks sound, I have the premium and it sounds pretty good, but if you'll telling it's even better from the sbd's they should sound really good.
It's kind of cool hearing the crowd...
bet PHIL sings final verse

Or will they make it an 8 song set?
Or even start 2nd set with Ryder?
and the crowd sings
hah... Weir forgot to look at the teleprompter and sing into the mike at the same time....
They've been locked in seven song first sets all tour. It'll be interesting to see if they break that with this China Cat
here's to em breakin out of the seven tonight!!!
cuz here comes the Rider . . .
maybe close with rider.
A Bobby flub so you know it's a good show.
They started at 7:40. I think Greensboro 87 minutes, the last two were about 70 minutes
I'm down for that JS!
Yes, Autumn, this is sick!
If 7 makes Phil happy, then let it be 7. Rider can come later. He's sharp as a tack like that. He's an elephant. He doesn't forget.
tease... lol
Let's do it!
there it is... billys on the beat
lol . . . .there it is
mellow rider
hmmmmm
What The Hell Was That?
whew. . that was a close one *wipes his brow*
yeah!!!
I think the crowd pushed them into it.
number 8
literally almost "missed" that rider . . lol
Warren tearing up the Brent-like vox....
seems like they got a little confused there ;-}
I knew a family man in the 80"s that would rent a Ryder moving van and take his family of 4 in it on tour. He would get black duct tape and spell I Know You on the side of it.
Always think of Daddy Don when I hear this song.
I noticed that also. . .
I suspect they discussed whether or not they would do Rider to close first or open second, to be based on mutual energy. The "eyes" have it!
nice!
Wow!!Feelin' It
waS that phil saying "Let's do this.."?
That's what I'm saying. Phil was leading into it and then I thought they were going to go after it and that's where you hear the crowd start singing and Bobby says let's do it.
Did anyone else catch that also
Nah it was Weir: Let's Do It
i heard that as well
Definitely Heard That
goooone gooone gooone

Bobby and Warren tradin off lyrics in Duprees and Althea brought a different energy to those tunes.
Encore tonight: One More Saturday Night > fist of the tour
Thanks Sirius for the three day trial!
I bet they were coming of stage all going wtf?? was that? regarding the China>Rider transistion.. gettin big laughs back there.. Thats good because that will really lighten the band up... strap in. We're in for a great 2nd set...
Cream Puff War?
Or maybe scarlet>fire??
i think scarlet>fire would b nice!
maybe an Alligator opening of the 2nd set.
Tim M I saw your post and I'm thinking they played Sat night already on tour and then remembered that Greensboro was on Sunday. One of those days today. The Cavs were my opening act tonight the Indians beat the Yankees 20-2, grill going and then this so thanks for getting my days straight Tim
Cream Puff would be a bad ass 2nd set opener
Reading all these reviews I can't wait 'til Friday and Sat. Enjoy the 2nd set all!! Peace
any one here do GDTS TOO for any of these shows. How r the seats? I mail ordered for the Gorge, and got a charge on my card but no tix yet.

where's Lemiuex and Lambert with the supposed 'updates' of the show/scene??

is anyone playing guitar?
better
thanks warren
Kind of reminds me the way Warren approaches shape I'm in. Slowed down and a little funky. Takes a few minutes before it starts to groove on you.
the space ship is going to take off
hmmmm
I don't care that Bob flubs lyrics, or that he needs slapping back into earth time, but his vocal phrasings are really jagged. He's attending different board meetings than the rest of them. Not to be negative, but some ideas are just bad ideas. He turned Foolish Heart into a slug the other night because of it.
jeffs brought it up another level
glad theres a real B-3 back in the mix... : )

Milestones was worth the price of admission, what a solid version. Now, will we get the Flyer after Terrapin?
Yeah,MORE COWBELLS MAN!!!
Warren has to carry so much...he must be growin greatly...
Warren has such a good ear. He can hear when something is amiss with his vocal phrasing and correct it almost immediately. It's taking the difficult art of singing and playing at the same time up to the next level.
well put August
I'm only getting to two shows - hoping Sirius does many more of these live broadcasts!

They didnt really finish Bird Song in the first set
Remember the birds at the beginning of the drumz...
This is fun. I missed a big part of the set due to family obligations.....
Not bashing, but was put off by Bobby's behind the beat vocal delivery on Days Between. Was it "dyslexic reading from a teleprompter" or is it his "interpertation?"
Nice playing all around by everybody. Nice loose, conversational jamming after the Days Between. Sounded like it could have become a Spanish Jam. It just keeps going on and on. I heard it start to go into He's Gone. Now I'm hearing Other Oneish notes.
great playin through here.
i was waiting for it
what about the wheel
since 10:30 they have played nothing but "days between" almost an hour of show

doesn't that phrase sound a little like Milestones?
we all know Weir routinely forgets to look at the teleprompter... and is prone to off-beat lyric repeating improv (Rappin Bobby!) please dont say snow and rain again...
they split it at red rocks in 04
nice audience singing!
The years of 88-90 Bird Song Out Of Control
JS, better change that to BS Part 1, BS Part 2...
love to all the band, but this singing-by-commitee shit is the pits. It distracts from the song and puts the focus on whose singing it...even when the handoffs aren't clunky.
sat night
I thought The Eleven was coming there for a moment.
of course
not the encore!
way too early.... cmon
singing by commitee= the great compromise
Jack Straw, I would add "Jam" after Days Between.
More committee = less Weir
I mean room for a stronger encore now that this is out of the way!
no Dylan tonight.
encore The weight
Oh to hear Jerry singing Baby Blue!
wheel encore
What time have the shows been ending? Time for a long encore?
Again, haven't been paying too much attention. Set seemed short on songs but long on playing. Just over 90 minutes?

Jerry introduced JBG that way at least once. Late 60's? I can't remember the show, but I can hear him saying it, "This is the one it's all about folks."
didnt they used to trade vox? remember Weir carrying his guitar in a gunnysack...
Post space just all right for me, liked alot of what I heard before that... Really liked Milestones

Well that was fun. Thanks Boys. Thanks Sirius.
Still no repeats, but we'll get that Sunday Samson tomorrow.
Seeeeya there.
That's it. i read where they are going to play a few
shows on sirius.
Maybe another mini acoustic tomorrow?
Can't wait to hear Chimenti on TLEO, one song which Keith used to chop on.
Do you think Donna would ever show up for one of these shows?
That was fun see y'all
on the XM feed it sounded like the boys were still on stage then heard wierd Hard to Handle licks before XM kicked into canned Jerry (Russian Lullaby...)
Jeff is rippin it up... he fits like a glove
donna shows up with The Other Ones in Camden 2004, sang Cassidy with Weir
I paid $110.00 to go to a Ratdog show.
Someone please kill me.
That set list was great. I wish I heard Terrapin last night! China cat, Althea, Milestones, man, you guys got lucky!!
Bobby singing Days Between!?!!?!?
WORST BUZZKILL EVER!!!!!!!!!!!
The reference to "this is the one its all about" came from the movie about the closing of the Fillmore West.
I wanted to get my two cents in....this tour rocks! All this Bobby crap...and nitpicking the set lists etc...get a grip!!! We just heard a live Dead show on satellite radio...on a channel dedicated to all things Grateful Dead...we are living in the Glory Days folks...get on board...dance as much as you listen and HAVE FUN!!!!
laugh with them at their mistakes...just like we did in 72...love them for their imperfections...this is the very best band they can be and it ROCKS.....
I love you all...see you at the shows....
peace and love,

how would one go about getting the 2nd set?
>>>I paid $110.00 to go to a Ratdog show.
Someone please kill me.
Hey Cryptical, it wasn't quite that but I know what your saying!
Saturday night in Worcester is not the time to bust out a Bobby reading of Days Between! As my wife said "seems like days between this song and the next" - lol!
Come on guys bust out the Alligator out of Dancin'!
I watched some tension between Bob and Phil on stage last night. During the transition (disaster) between China Cat and IKYR Phil threw his hands up at one point and turned to his monitor.
I want a little more gusto for my $100!
any one know about the 2nd set on megaupload.com?
This show smoked from start to finish. Band we GELLING throughout. Strong focused jams that were patient and grew together into frenzies!! Killer. They pulled off the Terrapin! Drums was incredidle, super high power. Days was surprisingly powerful. They all nailed it. The weaving in and out and in and out jams back to the Birdsong reprise was awesome! Sat. Night and JBG were full-on ROCK N' ROLL!!! This was a very different night than Albany. NEXT!!!
Sick of the Bobby bashing, this was a great show with alot of snap to it. Weirs guitar work was superb and Warren was enjoying the hell out of it. Yes Days was a bit testy, but then again the jams in and around were amazing. I do think that Phils issue at the end of China Cat was he thought the set was going to end.....did not view as anything close to tension or a train wreck....since they nailed Rider. If anyone thinks this was a Ratdog show then I guess I will see Ratdog more then Phil. As far as bang for the buck.....Milestones filled that by itself.
Let us all understand there is no one here that knows why Phil threw up his hands. Could've been something in the monitors, something with his rig, who knows. I definitely know that if you're not Phil Lesh you're speculating on what he was thinking.
Great point Steve S.. Just very sick of the bashing, speculating, the words train wreck, tension, etc, blah, blah, blah. Had to much fun to read the negatives. Thanks for leveling the field.
...
Oh no, Steve. Haven't you been paying attention? Why this board is afloat with people who know what Phil thinks before he thinks it, who know just what Jerry would want even though he's been dead for thirteen years and who are privy to the innermost workings of the Leshes' marriage. Guess you haven't been paying attention.
It isn't "bashing" when you find something specific amiss. It's called PAYING ATTENTION.
While I wish Bobby would just sing his songs I still had a great time at C'ville. I'd rather have a little bit of bad Weir than no Weir.
I had great times at Phil & Friends too but I prefer the core four.
Paying attention....hmmm....just about 40 years of listening and seeing the Grateful Dead....close to 300 shows. I was close enough to hear and see someone say to the effect "Lets go for it" also stated by others in this thread, pretty much tells me that they were not planning on it, but did it. Do not view that as a disaster or not paying attention. That's ok, we all enjoyed the show and that is the most important thing. Why we all keep coming back for more. Have fun tonight.
but I prefer the core four.>>>>>>>>>
that says it all...
Its truly AMAZING what some people "think" that they see. "I saw tension between Bob And Phil, then Phil threw his hands up" etc... Dont think that you know everything thats going on onstage. You have NO IDEA what so ever what they were saying to one another.
Hmmm... guess we've hit a sore spot. I've worked with a lot of musicians over the years, have seen thousands of performances and I was right up front last night. I personally saw a band dynamic that was not unpleasant but certainly not entirely entirely in sync.
Tension exists in every relationship, musical or otherwise and is an observable phenomena. Me and the people I was with (including the long time head music critic at the Boston Globe!) all seemed to have similar reviews to share with each other during and post show. Sorry if you end up seeing them in print this week and you don't agree with them but that comes with the territory. We feel like we saw a band that was good, great at times but not stunning and certainly not consistent.
I might add that I also turned around several times to see half of the people on the floor sitting for long periods in the second set. I guess I also don't possibly know what they were thinking but I can make an educated observation that they were not exactly being overwhelmed by the experience.
I'll be at Hartford next week listening and observing and just trying to keep it real.
Enjoy the ride.
so did anyone find the second set from Sirius anywhere??
after Terrapin the show went in the toilet. no more drums or drumz/space PLEASE, the could have played 4 songs instead. that shit should have died with Jerry. I had hoped when "the dead" in 04 did a "cassidy reprise" I had seen it all now a 'birdsong reprise" at least no "Only the Strange Remain" or other Mickey nonsense. 1st set dominated. I could have left after a mediocre Terrepin & missed nothing. I never thought would miss the likes of Liberty or Day Job. Let Warren & Jeff call the shots, the other 4 are too busy lugging those massive egos around.
Starkdar, if this show was better than Albany, the Albany fans deserve a refund.
Just one guys review from Saturday night:
I was 2nd row Dead Center right in front of Weir. My first comment is to whomever is running the Soundboard...you need some more decibels right up front. The mini speakers on the stage were barely audible in the first set. The big subs had no woof. All the security actually removed their ear plugs. I'm not saying it should be blaring loud up their, but you should have some bark to the bite.
I really thought the first set was excellent. The band was having fun. GDTRFB was tremendous fun, and it is a great boost early in a set. I remember SPAC show they did it early in the 2nd set. Gets the crowd going. TO me the only downer was Mountains of the Moon. Nothing against the song per se...but Phil's vocals are a tough one for me on that song.
Duprees was a highlight for me and the Althea was really nice too. Not sure it hit me like the opener at Roseland, but it certainly put a smile on the face. Birdsong was really nice and fun. The interplay from the rhythm section was fantastic!
China took some time to find a groove, but it did, and the house rocking to IKYR was like the old days.
Set II really kicked in nicely. The Dancin' was great and the Milestones was off the hook. Jeff is a real player. I was really impressed with his work again. I really enjoyed Terrapin. I thought Warren nailed the first half perfectly. I will agree with those who think that Warren should take the Inspiration verse. Bobby could take the next one.
Drums was fantastic! I always enjoy space, and Warren could really let it go a little more in my opinion.
Then came Days Between. All I can say from my vantage point, this was one of the highlights of the night. Sure I can agree with some who don't prefer the Bobby Spoken word tour stuff, but that being said, these guys one on this tune and it was at its haunting best. I would guess in other parts of the arena with some casual fans that do not know this song could easily have affected the energy. However, up front...these guys went after it and I really thought it was a highlight.
As for the Jam back into Birdsong. That was nice and cool. No doubt they as a band are not yet at the point of being the Swiss Watch we has known and come to expect from all the years gone past LOL, but this was good.
Sat night took a minute or so to find a groove, but came down the stretch with closing fast. The same could be said about JBG.
All in all a very good show with moments of greatness.
Final thoughts:
First my reprise...get the sound louder right down front. The energy that comes from the crowd right in front of the stage sets the tone for the whole arena as they are so visible. If the sound is barely audible they stand or sit and watch. Couple that with the typical comps and the VIP amateurs and it leads to some lethargy from the spot that should be crackin' with energy. We brought it of course, but help the folks out.
Second: Bobby is really really trying. Maybe too hard. Hey Weir...Smile and have some fun up there. His body language was isolated. The rest of the band was loose and fun.
Third: Careful of your faces Phil. We appreciate your musical prowess and desire for perfection. This is a new band and Bobby Weir talking about. It's like the Long Island Rail Road. Great service, nice trains and there are always clusterfucks. Just laugh and find your way home.
Fourth: Warren is really stepping up. Keep going for it! I would love to hear some more beef from his low register notes. He is everywhere else.
Damn I love that rhythm section.
See you all at Nassau.
Well, perhaps I had a different experience than many folks, but that's the way this thingy works, right? I was set on not going, till tix fell in my lap for $50 on Friday.
I was braced for not being that impressed, but determined to have a blast. Zoner hookup was breif, but bountiful. Gets better every time I hang with you freaks.
First set absolutely tore my face off. We were right beside the stage, 8 rows up from Warren. So strange having Phil far away on the other side...I haven't been to shows since Jerry except for PLF, so it was odd to have a fearless leader tucked in over there.
Second set for me was very intense musically. The stuff the mad scientist did in the drum laboratory plugged right into my spine, turned me inside out. I don't know how anything like that could translate as audio only, it was visceral, physical, tangible, I dunno but something re-set deep inside me.
The fact that everyone else didn't seem to understand the Days Between portion baffles me. It was the crux of the show, the moment everything else tapped into. The emotion and love was sooooo deep, I completely lost myself in in-between world, the place where that song was born. It's a cool, crisp nighttime place. It's the steely blue-black deep of the ocean, where science said nothing could grow or live...till they had the right means to explore, then revealing the strangest beauties of all, living in defiance of the way we thought things worked. It's deep water, so I see why some don't want to swim there. That song just pulled my soul right out through my forehead, dipped it in molten purple, and beamed it back into me through my eye-sockets.
Nothing else had to happen after that moment ~ the Bird Song reprise seemed appropriate, the Sat night not so much. The Jerome John B. Goode was a fitting tribute to the scene, but it felt really like more of a Box or Baby Blue kinda night...
In any case, it totally hapened for me. I was least expecting such a cathartic, mindbending, lifechanging ride, but there it is. As much nostalgia as I have for the days, I will never forget this show. My love has no bounds, and my doubt has no teeth.
Glad to read these last two reviews, pretty much how I felt listening to the stream. I thought Days Between was huge.
I will post the 2nd set from the sirius feed tonight when I get home from work. I didn't post the 2nd set after the show because according to my calculations, approximately 1 hour of the 1 hour 45 minute set was space/days between. Not exactly my "cup of tea" but "to each his own". BTW, I went to the Sunday show. Was that even the same band as Saturday night ? The difference was night and day.
This show is up on LMA now. Listening to Stranger now...
Chris. your problem is that your NOT enjoying..your too busy trying to figure out what everybody else is thinking. The head critic at the Boston Globe? Does anybody give a shit what he thinks? I dont!

I made the trek up from NYC for Worcester, and had a great time, but found the show uneven at best. Mountains really killed off the energy in the first set, and the China > Rider was a near trainwreck, though Rider ended on a high note. The second set was far, far better. Dancin' cooked, Milestones was off the charts good, and Terrapin was great. Post-Drumz it fell off a bit again, though Days Between was REALLY well done. I never thought Bobby could pull that one off, but it was engaging and moving. Overall, a 6/10. I know this band can and will do better, but still glad I went.
>>>Chris. your problem is that your NOT enjoying...
Happens some nights...
The critic in me has to rear it's head.
Don't get me wrong, I had fun. Just had a few observations to share.
I'll post again after Hartford...
I'm actually going to go against my 'bobby shouldn't sing jerry ballad' stance to say that he probably should be the one singing days between, if phil doesn't sing it(of course). Bobby was there and those new songs in the 90's meant alot to most of us and the band, obviously, but I'm not sure Warren understands this ballad fully. He wasn't there in the 90s and Bob might do it more justice, where as warren knows 'wharf rat' well enough, and it is an old enough tune that he had heard it through the years, not to mention his years singing it with phil. So kudos, to Weir, for hopefully doing this one justice, because the one i saw Warren sing in 04 at Pine knob was kind of a train wreck.
"..those new songs in the 90's meant alot to most of us and the band, obviously,..."
or not.
but maybe that's why everyone was sitting on their hands for 40 minutes, jonesing for something to grove on. The guy in front of me in row 5 was actually twittling his thumbs during ddaaaayyyyyyssss bbbeeeetttwwwwweeeeeeeeeeeeenn.
Jerry had a special talent for slow ballads. he is not in this band.
I went to both nights worcester. For me the first night first set was the best. GDTRFB and Dupree's were great. I really didn't need a 35 minute birdsong crossing over sets, it was pretty boring. Terrapin was a little slow and really with they played the whole suite
The next night Sunday, was undervolumed and warren was way under volumed, really disappointing that he was that much lower in the mix
>>> Sick of the Bobby bashing, this was a great show with alot of snap to it. >>>
Well I'm sick of Bobby sucking the life out of songs/shows. If he'll stop doing that, I'll stop bashing him. But Jesus, anyone with ears had to hear him take that absolutely gorgeous Terrapin and then drive it straight into the ditch. At first I thought it was kinda' funny, until I realized he was seriously just singing the song. Why the fuck does he find it necessary to pick up lyrics in the middle of a tune, when Warren is just nailing it?
Show never got back on track after that, especially after the 2 1/2 hour spoken-word Days Between. Yikes. That was truly painful. Then another 45 minute noodlewankfest into Bird Song reprise. D'oh.
>>> but then again the jams in and around were amazing. >>>
If by "jam" you mean "meandering aimlessly" and by "amazing" you mean "useless" I'm on board. It really was just boring. Everyone around me was just sitting in their seats looking bored.
>>> Just very sick of the bashing, speculating, the words train wreck, tension, etc, blah, blah, blah. Had to much fun to read the negatives. >>>
I also had a fantastic time, but that's no reason to be blind when reviewing what happened at the show. A lot of it was just bad as Dead shows go. It happens.
Agree 100% Poz
Poz is right f*cking on the money. period.
Bobby sucked the life out of yet another show, and he had help.
Never thought I would miss a mundane Miracle or Hell in a Bucket. Longest piss break ever.
And not because the halls never thinned out and the lines for the pisser were streched as far as the eye could see...
