here we go....
hope they dont play scarlet>fire until wilkes barre...i really want to see that...but have a great show tonight all !
Fun show last night. Hope all that are going tonight have a good time. The Sirius feed was nice, gonna miss that. I've dl'ed every show so far from LMA or e-tree, no 4-17 yet. Not being greedy, just getting spoiled with live feeds and dl's within 24 hrs or less. Anyone know when that Albany show is going to get uploaded?
I'm thiking third show in a row, second at the same venue, look for another acoustic song selection to start off the second set.
FOTD, Candyman, Warren tune, might be the order for tonight.
i was thinking that there are themes to each show/venue...you know phil etc draws up the setlist first....so i feel earth day is wilkes barre so scarlet>sugar mags> roses etc....NYC and philly have a shakedown and rocking themes...or NYC is spacey, TNK dark star etc....
the weather matters too, so if its really nice there today, maybe the scarlet>fire
What about Lazy Lightnin'> Supp> ? Did the Dead break that out in 04? Wonder if it has been worked up for this tour. The way they are changing things around, they could fit that into just about any slot in the show. Opener, set close, out of space etc...
The weather is great here in Worcester right now. Sunny, cloudless, and 60 degrees.
dam, i bet youll get the scarlet>fire...i hate you...no i dont your my dead brothers and sisters...i just loathe you....
I'm not sure. I like your Earth Day theme prediction better. What and when will the first repeat be?
i think they are trying to go as far as they can without repeating a tune...5 show, 75 songs, no repeats, priceless....
If the weather is going to be a factor in the setlist, and its a sunny nice day, I'm gonna guess that my Lazy Lightnin'>Supp is a no go tonight. Like the Scarlet prediction or maybe a Here Comes Sunshine
I think Eyes of the World is a given tonight
I am not really liking the NO REPEAT theme that is going on... I feel like it is preventing the other wonderful things you are all talking about fall by the wayside.
Believe me, after 5 shows with no repeats, the flood gates are about to open!
Keith, you going to be there tonight ??
will this be broadcast?? anyone know??
I haven't seen anything about a broadcast tonight. I think they're just going to do a small handful for Sirius.
I'm still looking for the second set from last night. I heard the quality is awesome. I haven't yet DL the first set at:

Has anyone found the 2nd?
You have to figure we get a repeat with Samson tonight. Bobby loves his Sunday gospel.
By the way, it is absolutely gorgeous out here in Worcester right now. Sunny, light comfortable breeze. The Shakedown scene is lively and fun, and about to host me again in a minute. I'm hoping for that Scarlet>Fire, or Eyes, or a Dew would be nice. I've had Golden Road running through my head all day and think that would be a nice opener for tonight too.
If you'll be at the show, enjoy. If not, I hope there's a stream for y'all.
i hope there is a stream tonight
Let It Grow?
How about.....and let me start by saying I have Been out of the loop last couple of days for a Wedding.....so I am not caught up on all the recent setlists......here goes anyway
Black Peter....(have they done that already???)
Black Throated Wind
Love Light
Throwing Stone
Stella Blue
There will be no live stream...the best we can hope for is for TROB to be there and doing his magic...That live stream shit really does spoil you...I want that EVER night of the tour, dammit!
Setlist? Tonight so far???

I would love to hear the 4-17 and 4-18 shows as well. Even the official dead site doesn't have the 17th up yet, the three previous shows were up in less than 24 hrs. Maybe the dead guys don't work on the weekend to upload shows.
Wow sirius 2 nights in a row.
What a treat
Sirius tonight??
Looks like we are back to the seven song set routine.
TRH, I'm not getting the show on Sirius, where or what channel are you listening to?
yea, it is not being broadcast now as far as I can tell either
me either on Sirius
yeah, i wasn't getting the sirius feed either. is it on now?
I'm streaming the Sirus free trail online....where can I tune in to tonight's show?
trh being a little prankster tonight hun.
Last night's dancing seemed a lttle off but this morning I read on dead net where they played it how they used to before it got the disco version of the 70's. The one we have heard so often. SO after hearing that it put it all together.
Maybe TRH is having a flashback
I don't think it is.... unless it's on some random channel. The Sirius sight does not list it all all for tonight.
If I go in the back yard and smoke enough, and then go back inside with the family all running around and screaming and all it sounds like the show is on.
or it all might be in my head
the sirius is not playing it tonight
it is wonderful to know the joy they still bring
sing sing sing so excited about nassau >MSG
enjoy every morsel
Can't wait til MSG!! If I can find a ticket at face value that is..
So what time did they go on tonight? It seems 7:40 has been the average. Did that stay the same tonight?
Wow it just keeps getting better and better! See you on Long Island and in the big apple!!!!
cream puff war !! that's beautiful.
acoustic openers? fotd? candyman?
i am liking candy man
It being Sunday, what does anyone think about Warren taking a turn and instead of Samson, they bust out a Gammorah (sp)

slipknot first repeat
right?
i wouldn't even call it a repeat, considering its just a transitional jam, although it does have it's own themeatic momments. im still saying. No repeats this tour. WOW!
they did it on the 12th Help>Slip>frank
I would call it a repeat. thats just me though...
nice ... CREAM PUFF!
Oh man Born crossed eyed!
superb.
Dave420---Good call on the Born Cross Eyed.
Born Cross Eyed---One of the very few along with Saturday Night to be written words and music by Bob Weir.....Not sure what else he wrote on his own.
Damn yesterday I had mountains and today I had born crossed eyed. Seems like I've been here before.
And yes, I will consider slipknot as a repeat.
92 songs played with one repeat, that's amazing
I wouldn't consider slipknot a repeat anymore than I would consider "Jam" a repeat.
Nice call on the Cross-eyed Dave420!!!!
I couldn't predict that horse rounding the corner at the time! But YES - I was hoping you were feelin' it man! I was thinking more on the lines of France (kidding).
Nice call dude.
1st repeat, played in a totally different context though. Calls to mind the different approaches Phil's band took with New Speedway Boogie during the recent Nokia run. Nominally the same song but played 3 different ways.
Would hope for a LIG repeat as part of the whole Weather Report Suite. Always loved it. Heard it live in 2004.
Likewise, would love to hear a Franklin's Tower without the Help>Slip & a Help>Slip without the Franklin's.
who gives a shit really? they are an amazing band and have been sounding great. one repeat count it or not. still amazing

france lol. 2nd night in a row without Dylan.
Considering how they would Dylan nightly but then again these show are so un-predictable. So that's why I'm calling a Dew tonight.
UJB- Like I said shows are so unpredictable
excellent
there aren't that many bands with ~ 100 songs in their entire repertoire. Amazzzing
Stella encore. Warren vocal.
Although, not knowing who sang what, it seems we're do for a Phil...Box of Rain.
Esau???
don't forget samson. Maybe they will throw us all off and not do it on Sunday.
No chance Sampson
sampson sounds like a perfect closer
when's Attics going to be played?
"Attics" Hopefully in Chicago always one of my favorites

Wow!
Also saying it was a Help>Slip>Let It Grow
Tomorrow is an off day, where is the next on at?
WeWantPhil - I just texted my friend who is at the show exactly that, Wow...
this show looks great! wish i was there
Someone else now saying no Help.. so I really dont know.. That'll teach me to pass on second hand info I guess

8 song second set? That's interesting counting.
I'm gonna call a Sage & Spirit during either the next acoustic portion or the next Bird Song.
Goodnight all.
wow... on paper it looks devestating... wow
GROUP HUGS...
PEACE & LOVE (while we keep it all together)UNTIL TUESDAY!!!'
:^D
Just got in, and am pooped. Danced myself stupid tonight (although most folks would say I don't need to dance for that). I thought tonight's show was outstanding. Cream Puff War and Born Cross Eyed were certainly highlights for me. I'm going to sleep happy tonight.
In Alligator, Phil stuck in the old, "Burn down the Fillmore, gas the Avalon" line. Put a smile on my (and his) face.
Jeff just went berserk on Let It Grow. Can't wait to hear it again.
Slipknot was a pleasant surprise, and if I'm not mistaken the first repeat prior to UJB, and Samson. Thought it was neat w/out Help or Franklin's, and turned it into just a crankin' jam. As for Samson...A Samson on a Sunday is as easy to predict as a One More saturday Night on a Saturday night...Just have to live with Bobby being a bit of a knucklehead.
I shall ruminate over the rest of the show overnight, as I'm flat out exhausted.
G'nite all.
Enjoy Buffalo. Seeeeya in Wilkes-Barre.
absolute mind bender...wow!
what a difference a day makes.
thamks Phil..new plan..see you next week.
THANK YOU PHIL ZONE!!!!!!!!!
WOW!!
Looks like a stunner on paper, though of course the setlist is just part of the equation as we all know.
One thing I thought worth mentioning:
Earlier in the thread someone pointed to "OMSN" as the other song (besides "born cross eyed") to be written entirely by Bobby, but I think it's interesting (and worthy of mention) to note that Bob actually DIDN'T write most of the lyrics. It's actually a Hunter/Weir collaboration, but when Bobby started changing words and phrases (as he often does. "quasar"
instead of "guitar" on GSET, etc.) Hunter finally got frustrated and asked to be removed from lyrical credit. That said, he DID write most of the words.
well the show sounded pretty good...especially on paper...wish i could remember where i parked my bicycle
All right guys and gals I just returned and I will give you the short version.
OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Right out of the gate they were dialed in BIG TIME.
This was the best show so far, by very far.
Total surprises and the playing by all was incredible but, don't shoot the messenger ;),
THE MVP WAS BOB WEIR!
I have not seen him like this since '95 he was Bobby Superstar tonight inspired and great singing and even some screams and raps.
The way he ended the first set was incredible!
Cream Puff War he nailed and Warren had us dancin' a Go Go. He had the coolest hippy tiney tone.Just like Jerry did on the album.
The Good Lovin' blew the roof off
Full review later today
This show was made of the stuff you keep showing up looking for.
Had a great time, all the Zoners I saw after the show all agreed, this show rocked!
What a difference a day makes.
>>>This show was made of the stuff you keep showing up looking for.
Yeah, too bad it costs too much to keep showing up. That said, I'm glad they threw down for you folks last night! Can't wait to hear some recordings. Let's hope there is a little more consistency the rest of the tour.
If the rest of the tour is like last night watch out. The bad was on fire. I was expecting some choppy playing being the 4th show of the tour, but they were right in step tonight. Thought Alligator and Hell in a Bucket were highlights in the first set. The second set started with a solid version of scarlet and very good version of fire that got the crowd rocking.
Sounded fantastic..but where are the photos? Dead.net has a place for fan photos and camera phone videos but where are the great photos like we see on Phil & Bob's sites when their bands tour. You would think that The Dead would have them up on Dead.net but they don't. In fact The Dead's website is really kinda lame.
http://www.dead.net/dead09-photos-videos?show=4-18 -dcu-center
go the specific show on dead.net...each show has photos and stories etc...
i have to agree with whoever said bob weir was the superstar last night. he was. at one point during hell in a bucket i though to myself that the music rivaled anything the dead ever did, of what i saw. it gave me goosebumps. if i remember, he did flub some lyrics during deal but that just added to the bobby being bobby thing.
1st set for me was the highlight, by far, followed by a really good 2nd set. i'm usually over drums but i thought billy and mickey, along with jeff to begin with, made it real funky and fun.
i will say that phil seemed to be waaaaaaaaaaay in the background for all of set 1 and then seemed to be having more fun during set 2, especially during satisfaction. and while warren is a great player, i think he just fits in ok with this band.
peace,
steve d.
Who sang Scarlet>Fire?
All right full review starting in seconds...
It seems that many Zoners did not make this show. I hope that was not the case?
I will start on Saturday briefly and interacting with all the Zoners and enjoying our free three day trial from Sirius. That show had it moments but the band did not gell as well as in Albany.
That said I had a blast, w/ all of you, and after that show I KNEW I had to hump it to the old Centreum.
I want to give a big shot out to Bill, who sold me his extra for $70, and 2 beers inside. It was sweet in 234 and the vibes and sound were incredible.
(((((Thank you Brother)))))
Tonight magic was in the air....
HC Sunshine was perfect and this version was sweet and lilting, with the slow tempo aka 1973. They explored it quite well and it was clear they were all very dailed in. The sounds was like perfect too. Vocals were clear warm, loud enough and Jeff ,really was outstanding the entire night, was perfect in the mix.
Schoolgirl was a total surprise and Warren nailed it. He voice was raspy and provocative and had me thinking about all those sweet hearts in the lot. He played a tatsy solo and they ended up teasing Smokestack at the end.Right on!
((((Pig Pen))))
Then they bust right into Alligator and man we were off big time. Warren once gain was at the helm and he sang it with justice. Jeff on the B3 was STELLAR.Phil sang the first chorus , very cool and carnival like.
Bobby was really stepping out with quick perky chords and his tone was awesome.
They did not sing the "Aligator, Aligator, Aligator" chorus before the going into the final jam, but hey who is complaining?
They really jammed it out with Warren having a strong wah wah tone that worked very well.
Then Bobby breaks it open by wanting to go right into Deal. Oh boy this was sweet, what a groove they were carrying. They played it slower like they did in the early 70's. Bobby and the entire audience sang the first verse.
Warren sang the second.
I really like the trading off they are doing.
Jeff was playing electric piano and Phil, who was there big time the entire set, had us rolling along. The jam started with a killer solo by Jeff and great chord work from Bobby and Warren.
Then a moment of oppps how does this song end? Phil then pushed Warren to solo more and then Phil raised his arm and started the final chorus which built to a nice ending. Harmonies the entire night were excellent.
At this point I turned to the folks behind me, who were having a blast, and said this is like a '70 set...Opps almost ;)
Then Bob starts to exploded. The Bucket raced out of the gate. Interesting juxtoposition coming after Deal. It was slightly slower tempo but was phat and Phil really was laying it down. The audience loved it, hell yeah we were all enjoyin' the ride.
Bobby gave us a couple heartfelt yeah yeahs and they launched in the first bridge which was rocking. Jeff on electric piano again.
Bobby had alittle distortion now and Warren ripped into a meaty solo, he had more of strat sound which worked very well.
The final verse was a blast, we all must really consider the circus
Boby really built up the end vocally the best I have seen since before '95. Warren added one more tasty solo and then Bob started screamin', the high pitch variety LOL!!!!! Loved it!
It was smokin and the set was far from over.
OMG Cream Puff War was sick!!!! Bobby went off big time, he played those fast strumming chords, as did the whole band. Between Jeff's Pig Pen sound and Warren's sick trippy guitar playing we were at the Whiskey Go Go.
The nailed all the quick changes too, exact tempo as the original.Jeff was a monster!
SMOKIN'!!!!!!!
What could be the icing on the cake?
Bobby meant business and they started Good Lovin' like the way they did it in the 80's, then they go old school and Phil starts playing the '60's begining, but then Bobby says no way we are going '80's and they exploded!
The tempo and energy was perfect!
The harmonies were awesome and we all sang our hearts out on the chorus.
Jeff was ragin on the B3.
Warren's solo was good, short and sweet, at the bridge but the band behind him added nice color and then Bobby came back singing his heart out.
He stopped to let the audience sing the final Good Lovin' then Warren and him sang it after we finished it.
Wow!
Then Bobby came back and started rappin with Warren and us backing him up Singing "Good Love" and gave us a couple even a blind man can see and some mighty hahs too. lol Then classic Bob screams. Whooo hoooo!!
What a set!
Yes if you are wondrin' I am writing this review listening to the board, for the third time. lol
Mickey was first out and started playing his marimba tone on the beam and we all knew exactly where were were going.
Bobby as soon he put on his guitar started teasing it and then the Massive
((((Scarlet Begonias.))))))
They really soared on this one.It was amazing. Bobby sang and he did it so much justice. It was one of those moments. The jam to the "wind in the willow verse" was incredible
Then a full out tranistion lead by Phil with Billy and Mickey added some nice grooves down. The jam was only 4-5 minutes.
When Phil signaled the arrival, it was stellar. The Fire ,sang by Warren, was really good and featured some great playin the energy between the audience and the band was off the charts.Jeff wailed on the B3.The ending was over the top like version from the 90's.
Then a big surprise going right into drums which was hot. Jeff stayed on stage and they really starting going off with a cool trio jam. After Jeff had left Billy and Mickey laid it down again big time, fast and a total tribal beats all the way, when Mickey tranistioned into his samples he even threw Rush Limbaugh in there lol.
The space was longer and nice but then another goof.
Satisfaction!!
Babby raged on this one and it was like 1982. Totally classic Weir. The audience loved it.
" and I try, and I try, and I try"
Warren wailed on an extended jam at the bridge.
Phil was a monter too ;)
Then they tranistion jammed, a minute or so leading us to
jettin' back to '68 and Born Crossed Eyed! They attacked this with such intensity and hit it perfectly. The vocals and Jeff on the B3 was jaw dropping.
Then bam!
Right into a full blown Slipknot!
Awesome and they raged!!!! They brought it down really quite and such, with Phil playing these wondeful spooky yet funky lines, before going into the final part which was very cool.Jeff organ tone was like Keith's from the GAMH gig.
Yeah we all thought were were gettin the HUGE Franklin's but Let it Grow was a perfect surprise.
Bobby once again blew us away. His posture at the mike this entire night had him stepping forward with his right shoulder hugging the mike. This version was majestic and the band soared. You could not ask for more.
Rise and Fall!!!
They jammed it out full force and then to go into Uncle John's Band which was very , very sweet indeed.
Another stand up reading, better than DC too.
You could hear the The Wheel teases on Saturday night and once again Bobby took the lead and started those fragile and reasuring, but oh so familar, chords.
This version was REMARKABLE!
The vocal harmonies were incredible and they have created this new ending which, if you hear live you will love.Phil was soaring!
Warren was so amazing during this part. Hats off dude.
Then they go old school on us again with the KILLER Lovelight. Warren sings the first verse and Bobby the second. It worked extremly well and they drove it home.
It was superb.
When Phil came out for the donor rap he tried makin' this comparison of all us and being on a computer but could not complete the thought it was hilarious.Alot of us were speechless.
Samson had Bobby with a tambourine at the mike stand singing the first verse and then he threw it down and they launched into a sweet rockin' version. They has one minor slip just before the end but it was so funny and it was well deserved. These guys delvered like no other band can.
This night IMHO was the best so far. A couple, 3 or 4 would be pefect, more shows like this and this Tour will be one of the best in almost 20 years.
Mark my words.
(((((Smile)))))
Excellent review! Monster of a show from start to finish.
Great review, Ted. Thank you.
>>Fire ,sang by Warren
aha! the critical information.
the absolute low point of the '04 tour was Mickey murdering the vocal of Fire, and I had been dreading hearing it again.
thanks for the great review.
THANK GOD!!!! Fire was sung by Warren! We all love you Mickey and we know that it was partially written by you, but...lets just say that we all love Mickey!
Super review Ted, I had a blast Saturday but this was at a whole nother level. Got a huge laugh at Satisfaction out of Drums/space...who would of thought. Cream Puff and Born Cross Eyed.....how long has it been....live...with the core 4 ? Many thanks to the band. My friend and I must have said wow about 20 times walking back to the car.
Just back from the road - Albany and Woostah x 2 - wonder if wnyone knows when was the last time The Dead played Alligator before last night?
According to "The Complete Annotated Grateful Dead Lyrics" book:
"'Alligator' was played sixty times between it's debut, possibly on January 27, 1967 and April 29, 1971"

what is the point of the megaupload. I've downloaded both of those links and all I get is the first 5 min.
It is nice to hear this show in full again. Thank Y'all.

... can't help you much here, but my hubby uploaded or downloaded something to do with megaupload after the show on 4-18 and we heard the entire first set. I am currently listening to the 4-19 show on archives... nice sweet sound.
Okay, as I am listening to this show again too, I like how the band seems to be easing into the show and first few songs here, allowing the music to flow, then building the sound up.
Hey Zoners
I was in Worcester Saturday and Sunday night.
Sunday night was excellent in my opinion.

Have Fun.
Listened to the show. I enjoyed parts of Albany greatly but agree that overall this is the best show. Looking forward to Hartford and beyond. Thank you for posting links to Audio and Videos.
thanks for the videos. does it get any better than this?!
Awesome! Just blows me away to hear this
Thanks for the great videos and the awesome uploads in FLAC - totally cool phriends!
Great review Ted. The round in the Wheel was freakin incredible.
Good times~ can't wait for Cali.
I heard that Mickey called Drums, "Pulsar," and Space, "Invisible." What a prankster!
Listening to the sbd download and this show surprised me- I was skeptical about this line-up but Warren has injected some "Pig" back into this band and they are playing very nicely as an ensemble. I miss the fluid segue jams of old and the lead lines mirroring the melody lines going into jams (this group has too much of the angular P&F thing going on for my taste where many jams sound the same) but the tune execution is excellent, harmonies crisp, strong "attitude" especially on Schoolgirl. Bobby's playing is fantastic, Phil is loud & clear, and the drums blend nicely- I like the new approach back there instead of both of them whacking away on 2 kits all the time. And Jeff's keyboard work is a nice mix of Keith and Brent. Can't hardly wait for the Gorge.
I think chimenti sounds like hornsby, at times(grand piano)
Just listening to the SBD for the first time myself, LOVE Warren going all surf guitar on Cream Puff War ala Dick Dale! LOL.
This is a great show. Though I agree with pinman on some of the jams, a little more deliberate and, if I dare use the word, 'sober'. If that makes any sense. Still awesome, just not insane like the 70's/80's drug hazed craziness . . .
I must be in the minority but I went to both worcester nights and liked the first set of saturday night the best. It just seemed to be more up-tempo louder and I think the dupree's sealed the deal for me.
The sunday show was completely lower volume and warren was way turned down, i was very disapointed.
next will be nassau and msg for me.
OK..I've listened to just about every note of this tour so far....at least once.
IMO...the Lovelight from this show is the creme de le creme...the boys nailed it ..soup to nuts
actually the whole damn 2nd set is at a higher level to my ears than most of this tour...not that MSG at Philly 2 ain't smoking...but listen to sampson from worcester and then listen to philly...wow.
