Aren't we due for a Dew? Or will it wait until the last night in Philly to wrap up the east coast portion of the tour. Branford could do some pretty cool stuff with it I'm sure.
I love having warren in the group! Lovelight.

Another tune that has not been played is Hard to Handle. I think Warren would tear that up. Didn't it get played with Phil & Friends fairly often?
Is there a choppy broadcast somewhere? tidbits of chop would be better than nothing!
Tidbits of chop would indeed be better!
not sure what you're promoting friend, but that's not tonight's show. It also blurs the line between using recordings for commercial gain...but that's OT, so I'll keep it to point: Any streams of tonight's show anywhere?
Thanks taperrob and all else, for all the pics and updates.

I'm liking the fact that Warren finally got to sing Both the Scarlet and the Fire! Sounds alot better then when Weir does the Scarlet.
Thanks Taperrob for all you do, and to Darren for the heads up on the broadcast.
The Fire is smoking!
Also sounds better than when Mickey does the Fire.

Jill don't say it! I am hoping they'll save it for tomorrow. I NEED to hear eyes tomorrow, it's been one strange trip for me these past weeks.
The Dark Star (v1) was when, last week? Was it Nassau?
Nope . . . west virginia
Jack Straw are you really from Wichita? Or just kidding about that? I was in Wichita once for a night, seemed like a week...I kept a tight grip on my boots.
Taperrob thank you!!!!!!

Just got back, really fun show.
Instead of writing a full review I will just say they had a lot of fun, I was very close and seeing them all play together is just crazy. Branford is amazing, he was loving it the whole night.
A really awesome show, I have to note Milestones was incredible, They were all grooving hard even Bobby was getting into it. I also must note Estimated Prophet... light years better then the first one they played which just shows the progress. Franklin's Tower was the perfect way to end the night.
Just got in from the show. Just wanted to say, "yeah, it was as good as it looks."
set 2 playing now on gd radio!
set 2 stream on now http://www.gdradio.net/

Milestones...Best, WOW! I also thought security was fairly friendly and loose.
Hey Adam Dean,
Thanks for the Hartford tix. I had a great time. I will leave feedback.
Let me know if you hit joisey. I'll be in sec 105 tomorrow night and would love to buy you a beah.
Ed
I think we're about due to for a Lucy in The Sky, Gimme Some Lovin' & Wharf Rat.
The show tonight was truly awesome, no doubt about it.
But I said that on Sunday.
And Saturday.
And I will say it again tomorrow too, of that I'm sure.
So, y'all c'mon down and have a good time. Plenty of tickets left over.
You won't regret it!
(Branford seems to love "E", so maybe we get a killah Truckin' tomorrow!
And, maybe HelpSlipRider??)
Just got back. I thought MSG was awesome, but tonight was insane. Branford really brought it and created so much energy. Great interplay between Warren and Branford. Branford even looked surprised a few times when Warren would duplicate with his guitar Branford's sound (particularly during Eyes and Franklin's). Very cool.
Looking forward to tomorrow...
Are any of you guys buying the recordings at the show? I'm listening to tonights and I can't get over how perfectly mixed these are. This Estimated Prophet is wailin!
Just got in... Scorcher of a show. Perfect weather, lot scene was mellow with a minimal number of gnarlwooks and a very nice miniShakedown. Security was a joke, such a huge change from seeing shows out here in the 80s...
US Blues was ripping, and the Scarlet > Fire was (dare I say it?) EPIC! Really high energy and when Branford snuck on for Fire the place went mental. HUGE ovation when they finished! Birdsong meandered a bit, Stranger was slow out of the gates but hit an incredible high. High Time was one of Warren's few highlights, as he was very much in the background giving the lead to Branford most of the night. The High Time was exquisite and one of the MANY highlights of the first set. Lovelight absolutely KILLED and blew the roof off the place.
Set II started with NPC, one of my all time favorites, and this was a great one. The band was really locked in. Estimated absolutely killed it. If you are listening to the stream now you can hear the amazing peak they reached with it. Along with Scarlet > Fire, High Time and Lovelight, one of the highloghts of the night. Oh and of course MILESTONES with fucking Branford!!! This was just as sick as you would imagine. I saw this in Worcester two weeks ago, and it was the highlight of the show. Tonight it was about 56 dimensions better. Absolutely rock solid. Drums was, as usual for this tour, killer, and seeing Branford and Mickey at it again brought a smile to my face. Space was short but good, and Fantasy got the crowd going. Dark Star was a huge surprise for me, though I knew they hadn't finished it at Nassau. Meandered a bit, but after the verse (which sounded great and got a huge cheer) Branford and Phil locked in and killed it. Bobby slowed down Eyes, and it sputtered around but eventually found some nice grooves. Band and crowd were a bit tired, so maybe not the show stopper they hoped for but still nice to hear. The Franklins encore was unexpected and shit hot! I was dancing my ass off at the back of the floor on my way out and hit a great groove. Huge smiles coming out and a general sense of mellow bliss on the bus and train back to nyc. I may try and score a cheapie tomorrow. Why the fuck not? Tonight was an absolute BLAST! Listen to this show. You won't be sorry you did... Namaste, Zoners!
The Eyes was Killaaahhh!
oi class or back for IZOD night 2
Namaste, Ashes
got out of work at 4:45, went to subway to get sandwiches, picked peggy up, and was parked in a spot right near the exit at 5:30....flew up the turnpike!
BEAUTIFUL day out with the wind, and because of my unorganizedness, still had chairs and our fold out table in my trunk...so the pregame was on with about 1 hr 40 minutes to enjoy it...
felt like pregaming for a summer show... I drank 2 huge glasses of jack beforehand, so i got wasted pretty quickly...
I bought the tickets off of stub hub.... $99.50 seats for $52, section 102, on the row 11.... seats 1, 2, and 3
so it turns out that row 11, is actually the first row in the section "behind the basket", if you will...and the first 10 rows are in those pull out bleacher seats, so even though it was row 11, it was really the first row of the section!
so we were in the front row, up against the rail, dead center across the stage.... sound was excellent
Phil took over the 2nd set, he was louder in the second set, more so than the previous 3 sets I've heard.... and in charge taking the leads and transitions...
THE SECOND SET LAST NIGHT FELT LIKE A PHIL SHOW TO ME!!!
it wasn't just that he was louder than before, and being the maestro or quarterback, it was the fact that he was playing the leads during the jams, between songs, key changes... was just great!
you knew we were all in for a treat when they start up the 2nd set, and I hear Phil drop that one New Potato note... HERE WE GO.....!!!
Eyes never really took off, and ended awkwardly, but aside from that, everything was really, really good..
Dear Mr. Fantasy out of the space was off the charts, and the Dark Star was "what it should be", just swirling around your head with different pacings and directions, keeping you on your toes throughout...
I really can't wait to listen to this again
also, not to be a follower, or ass-kisser (pun slightly intended).. MikeW is hands down the best and craziest dancer that ever done was.
I've seen him dance at many-a show, in many-a venue, but last night he was in the zone....
at one point he literally danced down 13 stairs without slowing down, and going right into a fierce spin move once hitting the floor... it was most impressive...
lol...hahahahaha, oh man....
oh yeah... the space before the drums, with mickey's prerecorded stuff, and Branford, and Jeff..
WOW.... I felt like I was in a planetarium for deadheads...
ok here we go
yesterday my lady went to work and talked to her boss and was able to leave at 2:10 and have wednesday off. we were suprised at how much show day excitement we had and were pretty stoked to hit the meadowlands. we had everything ready to go so when she got home at about 2:40 all we had to do was ice down the cooler and hit the road.
we FLEW up the parkway and turnpike and pulled into the lot at 10 of 4. we had to do some sweet talking and maneuvering with security so we would not be forced into the parking garage as we really wanted an open lot. things went as planned and we did the loop around the stadium and into the front lot that we wanted which was OPEN and still had plenty of space despite what security kept telling people.
we pulled into the lot, went down a row and then it was complete MAYHEM. some asshole parked in the middle of the row and put a sign on the car with his seat location. this piece of shit COMPLETELY cut off access to about 40 or so parking spaces.
we sat in a standstill before i pretty much became ENRAGED. i've been around enough to know that all a shiftless bunch of spun out hippies really need is some direction so i jumped out of the car and took control.
i convinced a lady to pull her car up and open a space that we could temporarily use as an exit lane. i was suprised with the opposition from folks to use a lil common sense and alleviate a RIDICULOUS traffic jam.
i managed to convince her and as soon as she moved so we could get cars to pass the asshole next to her slides his grill over into the spot. i was in complete shock. the guy actually argued with me and it got a lil heated. bottom line was that he moved the grill and people could drive through the open parking space and get to the 50 FUCKING EMPTY SPOTS that were there.
i directed the people through and then made sure the lady who was kind enough to move temporarily got her space back, which was a challenge.
never have i seen a bigger bunch of toolbags but it all worked out in the end and a bunch of folks came by and thanked me. even the asshole with the grill apologized when i went to take a piss and told me that was smart thinking and offered me a beer.
ok a lil frazzled but we are in the lot and having a beer and the sun is shining and life is good. we drink some beers, smoke up and do a loop to check out shakedown and score some seats.
i was completely horrified on shakedown. there were only a few old school super kind heads and a zillion sketched out wooks. it was BAD. garbage everywhere, rude shitheads everywhere and just a very spooky vibe which i did not enjoy at all. i also noticed that almost EVERY member of the nitrous mafia was sporting a hige black eye or other evidence of getting the shit knocked out them. wonder how that happens?
we walk around and score 2 uppers for 50 a piece. we overpayed and i knew it but my lady gets nervous and we just wanted to get our tickets and head back to the car to party.
we avoided shakedown completely pretty much and chilled with out lot neighbors and had a really good time. the tool factor and the newbie factor were off the charts, but what can ya do?
we had a good ole time and friends kept stopping by and its ALWAYS so much fun to share a kind word and a smile with your friends so that was completely awesome!!!
7:30 we headed in and walked into the venue with US Blues already playing. we were warned but were suprised anyway. we hit the bathrooms grabbed a beer and hit our seats. i was SHOCKED that the entire rear of the venue was curtained off and that the place was half empty. we had seats in the uppers and could easily go down as we had a bunch of friends in 102 and 109 but the sound was good the lights were FUN and we had so much room and security was non-existent that we wound up staying where we were for the whole show.
DISCLAIMER: this review is from someone who enjoyed THE BEST chocolate EVER. Seriously. We were freaking AMAZED at how good it was. So you can take this all with a grain of salt if you wish.
US Blues was fun and rocking but we missed the very beginning so we were just getting into it. I thought the Scarlet>Fire, Birdsong was really good and they jammed and got out there. I admit that I LOVE Branford so that may skew things some but I thought they all gelled together and it was apparent that Jeff, Phil, Branford and Billy were pretty locked in and I enjoyed that. Stranger was cool and the High Time was excellent. Well played and I thought Warren did a very good job. Lovelight is ALWAYS fun and I liked it as the second set closer. Got the energy up and people rocking and it was a lot of fun.
The band does some meandering that is basically borderline noodling. I noticed this at the free shows and have been extremely interested to see what I thought of all the reviews of "epic jamming" and the like. Make no mistake this band CAN and DOES go places. Fun, out there, SPACEY places. They also miss the mark an awful lot and Bobby seems to enter noodle land a bunch and needs to be pulled back. You will get a train wreck here and there and sometimes they go off in a jam that is absolutely STAGNANT and goes no where. Also, I like Warren a lot better WITHOUT THE SLIDE. Yes, I know he can play one hell of a slide guitar. But he is a GOOD GUITARIST and thats what this band needs. I noticed a lot more picking and a lot less slide (which makes it sound like kentucky fried dead to me). So I am very happy that he is picking and fully believe the music is better for it.
2nd Set POTATO. Oh sweet, sweet Phil. They had a few problems in the song but I thought they pulled it off. All in all FUN! I mean how can you not love Phil rocking out a Potato to start the second set?!?!? Estimated is where I felt they lost it a little bit. Despite my Bob bashing I actually LOVE Estimated and love it even more with Branford. I thought it was sloppy with some go no where noodling but they definitely hit grooves of well played music that got ya going. It just wasnt that SUSTAINED EXCELLENCE that I greedily come to expect from Phil's bands.
And then MILESTONES!!!! God I was hoping to hear that with Branford and they didnt disappoint. Out there jamming and Branford just a ball of energy on stage. You could see he was pumped up and having FUN and it rubbed off on the guys. Phil, Branford and Jeff really locked in and out if nowhere Billy started ratatat tatting and it was REAL GOOD.
I noticed at some point Bobby doing the amp thing. He tends to do that when he starts getting lost in a jam. Walks over and starts fiddling with knobs and buttons. Coolest part of milestones was this: Conductor Bobby then walks over to Phil and Billy and its looking like he wants to make a change. Some hand signals and they are talking to each other and Billy looks at Phil and then almost stands up on the kit and RAT A TAT TAT. BAM! Groove is back and Phil picks up on it and starts really going. Ya can see Branford's head and legs bopping as he starts ripping and then Chimenti grabs on and they are ALL on it. Jammin Milestones and it is GOOOOOOOOOOD.
I dont know how many of ya are into bluegrass, but when folks get a bluegrass jam going and its HOT ya can actually feel the energy going from player to player. Guitar RIPS and solos and then the banjo picks up on that note and GRABS IT and he goes OFF and then the fiddle grabs it right from the banjo and takes his turn. The energy and resulting musical explosion is palpable. You can feel it. Parts of Milestones had that for me.
Never been a big drums/space guy but it was good to see again. Kinda like a home cooked pot roast meal from your mother. Takes ya back to the old days and makes ya warm and fuzzy inside. It was cool to see and of course I took a piss and grabbed a water.
Fantasy was a great call out of space. Warren OWNED it and it was an absolute blast. People singing and everyone from the spun out old hippie to the lil college kid had smiles a mile wide. I forgot how powerful it is when ya see a thousand smiling faces bathed in blue light swaying to the music and smiling like that. Folks only get that smile at a show when they are lost in the music. Nothing beats it.
DS>Eyes was the kind of meat I was dreaming of when I heard the whispers of Branford. DS had its moments for sure but also petered out at places and the ">" was horrible. Totally fell out of it. They got Eyes back up there and folks were all jamming out and having fun but it did not leave me with that smoking crater feeling I jones for. Folks sure may have seen that differently, I can only give my opinion.
Donor rap and our faithful leader discusses MAGIC! Right on Phil, right on!!!!!!!
Franklins encore was the cherry on top. Upbeat closer like they did with Lovelight in the first set. EXCELLENT CHOICE!!!!! Who wrote the setlist? Well done, indeed.
Energy was all over the place and had us spilling out of the venue with a smile. People were so wound up there was one of those OLD SCHOOL spontaneous applauses and hooting and hollering as folks walked out of the doors. Reminded me of the old days of the garden and had me laughing as we walked to the car.
Lot afterwards was like New Jack City. I was absolutely disgusted. TRUE STORY - 2 chick wooks and a dude were mollied out of there skulls and having a 3 some in between 2 cars in a half empty parking lot full of broken glass and empty baloons. TOTAL FUCKING BUMMER.
Maybe we all gotta tour more??? The lack of respect for the scene flipped me out. So all in all the shakedown is sketchy, I do not dig the scene AT ALL, and a half curtained off venue was depressing.
BUT the music filled me up pretty well. Id be honest, if I spent 120 beans I would have been less glowy but a cheap seat after a beautiful day hanging in the lot has me happy. There is no doubt I could have focused my review on the noodling, the completely BLOWN transitions and some of the LOST factor just as easily. Ya get plenty of it there is no doubting that.
But when they get going its pretty damn good and as always can make up for a lot of sloppiness. That one golden moment from Jerry always made me forgive him for some of that muckity muck ya know?
I caught some cool shit and am headed back for another cheapie in the lot and to see what night two brings. Please use ya head out there folks and take some responsibility for the scene we create. Bring some extra solo cups and some extra garbage bags. These kids need it.
See ya on lot for Night 2!!!!!
"I also thought security was fairly friendly and loose."
"Security was a joke, such a huge change from seeing shows out here in the 80s"
Wow...nice to hear after the Fall '89 shows when we actually lost someone to over-security.
Show was GRATE!! AGAIN!! But next time either make it 1 show or just dont play there anymore.. nobody seems to want to go to the Meadowlands anymore. Thy had HUGE curtains covering up half the upper teir..nobody bothered to go inside, thats sad. Also, those nitrous guys need the shit kicked out of them, what a bunch of dirty ass, punks they are!
