Great show. Righteous crowd brought the good energy and there was room to sway and/or dance without being jostled.
Highlights for me were mighty river and little rabbit to end the first set with a bang and Jeff Miller was smoking and meshed with the band well for a couple of songs in the second set. Mountain Time was a beautiful psychedelic piece that floored me. Huge ovation after that and the whole crowd was really finding a dance groove in our area.
Sisters and Brothers made you just want to start giving out hugs ... as it should.
Need to give props to Jim Lauderdale who opened and was worth getting there early for. Practically every song he played was co-penned with Robert Hunter (one of which he had just written like that morning) and Sandy Rothman sat in on a few of them and then RRE came out for his last song. Glad I got turned on to this guy. He's the genuine article when it comes to bluegrass/Americana ...
Great review Patrick, thanks bud...
Powderfinger? Have they played that before?
Yes, irving plaza and once in boulder...so at least a couple times before...
I would like to hear this again especially that mountain time tune. Know the Friday nite shows already up. Think this will come up anytime soon??
The Monkey Tuners were in the house, so I'm sure it's just a matter of time This show was definitely hot! A little trivia...the yonder show exactly 3 weeks prior also had a Sisters and Brothers. The RRE version is better though. Powderfinger was an interesting choice too...I'm still listening to Marco Benevento plays Neil Young show from yoshi's in february, he did a very nice Powderfinger...completely different though, instrumental and jazzy. Two great interpretations of Neil!
I dug Jim Lauderdale and his swagger. He was confident enough to wear sequins without being too cocky. and he was definitely a flirt, hammed it up for the blond photog lady who was on the rail. ha ha ha. The Sandy Rothman sit-in was totally unexpected and very cool! Looks like he'll be back in July with a gig at Rancho Nicasio...I think I'll try to be there!
I think Dawne will upload Saturday's show tonight.
Thanks Pete and Dawn.. you two are the best
Thanks for the sharing
So glad that you liked Jim, Em...
He's a legend
If any one taped that, i'd love to hear that too
