Man... it's my BirthDay and I'm stuck here in Oregon :-(
At least I'll be in LA friday & Saturday and Shoreline Sunday!
God belss my wife for letting me leave her with the Kids to go see the Dead on Mothers Day!
I'm the luckiest man alive
yup Spanish Jam. Tequila and Mexicali blues. and i'm also feeling a Wheel - they know midwesties love the Wheel and prob a shakedown.

Naah. I managed to wrangle the same deal. Of course, I'll be taking her on Thursday.

okay that's not likely, but it would be cool
they did Mexicali last nite. i'm feeling a Dancin' in the Street.
"they did Mexicali last nite"
so what? i want unpredictability from this band
They just did Mississippi on Friday. It might be too soon in rotation.
Although they did Box on Friday and again last night so you knows.
i'm assuming like last nite - there will be no one there streaming from Live365 or GDradio.........right?
handbill i just made. (it's my nieces 1st Dead show tonight and she cant afford a poster).
check out the new vid on dead.net....looks like they might tour more!!!
http://www.dead.net/video09/
lol....Bob is scratching his head wondering "who am I playing with, what day is it?" LOL
Also no way they do MAMU since they'll be here in Denver Thursday.
Gotta save the "I'm as honest as a Denver man can be." line for the Mile High City!!
PS- hasn't the show started?
CST
Wharf Rat tonight!
Ahhhhh. Forgot about the time change after all the east coast shows!
This one will be interesting to follow as anything played tonight isn't likely to appear in the next three shows. Here's to hoping my list of hopefulls stays mostly intact!!
yea........about time they do Wharf Rat....for several reasons but most of all b/c my brother is there tonight and it's his first show newly SOBER ! tho........i know he got into the lot at 4pm to enjoy Shakedown St. and that could be a very slippery place to be for hrs......yea know?
Spanish lady come to me
setlist coming soon
thanks tons
Star* - Shakedown last night was mellow. Can't speak for tonight as I am back home in Minneapolis now. Your brother should be fine.
Everything was nice and chill last night. No hassles or freak-outs, except for the girl kicking the concrete parking lot light stanchion...she was on a bad trip, me thinks. The police were nice and friendly, even cracking jokes (you have to be polite to them, though). I did not see one person get hassled.
Wharf Rat! Tonight!
John anyone streaming gdradio tonight? Or I should give credit where credit is do, Is Rob at the show?
Cico de mayo on shakedown street newly sober.
Talk about decisions.
>>Your brother should be fine.<<
thanks Loco. i hope so. he is on parole till 2012 - just finished 7 yrs in a cage in Southern Illinois......yea know? he was the victim (or the crime) during a really stupid incident he did during a TOTAL BLACKOUT. he paid his dues and i was there for him every step of the way on the inside and gifted him this Miracle ticket tonight so i'm keeping my fingers crossed.
all i know is the last show i saw in chicago was halloween 99 with phil and dylan. cops were very nice before the show and crackin some heads with billy-clubs after the show.
That fall '99 Dylan and Phil tour was awesome.
I'm sure it was completely unprovoked. I mean, toss a bottle or two at the cops with a head full of nitrous, belly full of beer, head full of (fill in the blank) and look at how they react...
Be discreet and you don't get busted, pretty simple.
Just sayin...
>>Cico de mayo on shakedown street newly sober. <<
no shit Sherlock. now u know my concern. he got busted for his CRIME exactly 10 days after the Alpine Family Reunion 2002 which i went to w/ him. soooooo this will be his first show since. his exact words last nite last when i talked to him on the phone were "i cant believe i'm going to a Dead concert w/o psychedelics onboard".
my response was "dear buddy....this is NOT a GD concert - it's The DEAD.........think if it that way and you'll be fine....and look for the YELLOW balloons !"
(sry but he was an old skool head for yrs who considered everything after Jerry died as........NON dead)
not my opinion.....dah.......i've lived in SF for 30 yrs.........but that was his take.
Show was great, the first Derek Trucks sit-in w Phil. I hope tonight rocks for all who go and is a safe one for Star's bro.

I hear you Chris... I only have Shoreline on Thursday. But I think I've drawn a nice card.
By the same token - They always throw-down in LA. Usually a little more of a rocker show -
But they do bring it when they're down there! I think you drew a nice card as well!

greetings, Philphreaks. First post here...thanks for the setlists these past couple weeks. I saw Nassau and MSG and had a fabulous time with old friends. Musically I have to lean to slightly disappointed (so far). It ain't what it used to be (on the bus in 79), but it's close enough to pretend.
Welcome Sven!!!
how long have you been 'lurking'??
Yes, you gotta take what you like and leave the rest. Tonight's setlist looks great to me. But listening to shows thus far the execution is another thing from what's on paper. It's a different beast altogether, so I have to refrain from too much comparison to the old band. On the bus in '83. These guys just haven't had enough time to gel the jam spirit to a real mature level yet (especially segues in between tunes) although they have had many great moments for sure- maybe in a few more tours there will be more 'flow" and less of the choppy stuff... or maybe I'm dreaming. Warren will get more comfortable and assert himself more in directing the jams the more they play together. My gosh, he's playing about 110 songs with these guys- and repeating about 20 of them- he's hanging ten for sure! My "only" will be the Gorge. Hoping for some epic 60's sets where Warren gets to channel Pig.
gorge here too...
Been thinking about what I'd like to hear out there.. My current fantasy set list contains:
Cryptical Envelopment>
The Other One>
St. Stephen>
Stawberry Fields Forever
Unbroken Chain
One More Saturday Night
: )
Been on the bus since '82 and these shows are fantastic! We are all so lucky to even get a peak! Looking so forward to Shoreline and i'm not a big fan of the venue! 2 nights in Oakland would have been my choice but I ain't gonna be pickey! Bring it on!

It is impressive. Thought I read that they rehearsed 160. Don't know if that number's precise but it bodes well for future surprises.
I forget when I found this board...have caught several taperrob streams on deadradio, which I appreciated very much.
Pig channeling has been Warren's strength IMO- Caution, Lovelight, Mr Charlie, Schoolgirl, etc... he gives the band some swagger- I'd like to hear a King Bee, It Hurts Me Too, Hard To Handle, Death Don't Have No Mercy... and in other channeling streams- I'd like to hear Warren take over vox on Dew and nail it with a fat, fuzzy, sustained tone at the end!
set break just ended...........
any texts??????
I totally agree pinman. they can pretty much pull off pig tunes now which is killer. Warren brings a lot to the table.

anyone out there from the NW suburbs?.............left 30 yrs ago for SF........ but graduated from Prospect HS........
any takers??? wanna chat about the old days in MP later?
Maybe it's blasphemy to some, but I thought Joan channeled a bit of Pig on that tour- she's the only one since Pig to strut and stalk the edge of the stage and shake her hips suggestively while singing her heart out... Not that I'd care to see Warren doing any hip shaking, but the man can SING (and sweat if you find fat sweaty men sexy).
I'd chat but will be getting my daughter to bed soon now that she's done playing with slugs and snails (true)...
Joan is an awesome singer... she gots swagger too

I saw Worcester first night, there were momentes but I was'nt thrilled, even after listening to the sbd I bought on the way out. I thought maybe it's a little early in the tour, so I dl'd both meadowlands shows with branford,
I'm still listening to them and hearing new stuff
Some of the best jams I've ever heard , real music improvisation.
I'm interested to see how far they'll get by the end of the tour. With so many songs, it must be hard to make progress on any one as they don't come back into rotation that fast.
I started going to shows in 79.I'd love to see Warren take more control and sing just about all the Jerry stuff
is there anyway to pick-up a live stream of this show?
Star*.. You seem a bit ruffled by it all. Most of your comments to others is really negative in your retort... Are we having a bad day? Or have you come on here to try to break-up the goodness? Please explain....
Sorry fellow Zoners ~ But i had to ask the question....
Chuck - we usually don't get a stream unless T. Rob is at the show....

I can say I saw albany it was ok...saw wooster (sun) better ..msg rocked and this band is moving in the right direction.
100$$ they sold the tour to live nation, remember they could not get along for the last 3-4 years because of $$. So they sell the rights to the tour..live nation charges 100$$...if they did not sell the tour would they have played???
Everyone should enjoy the MUSIC for what it is...Jerry is never going to walk on stage again..so deal with it or get off the bus!!!
Thank you John Green!
Hlpslpfrnk, thanks for the info.
My fellow head and I have been trying to figure this out; he mentioned something about being able to hear the first set during the 2nd set for some of these current tour shows, and also something about Mongolis (not sure if this is right) but IF and when it does happen how do I go about it....?
BTW, I was at both nights Philly, Albany, Charlottesville, and Greensboro. I bought Greensboro and 5/1 Spectrum and my buddy, Brother Al, bought 5/2 Philly. I was able to speak to David Lemieux at Charlottesville and I told him before he said anything that upon listening to the 4/12 GB discs it sounded so good it must be 24bit/192kHz (hi-) resolution, which is currently the theoretically highest resolution for digital; (I'm into hi-end audio and stereo playback, including tube amps and analogue) he said yes it was and that was the best way to hear the show copies. I asked about the $15 FLAC downloads from dead.net as I want the best possible reproduction and he said the hard copies sold at the show are superior to the FLAC. Anyway, I hope to not sound like a snob but I'll pay for their best sound (and eat from the value menu instead for a week) but I'm also wayyy behind the download curve. I was hoping to hear some of the shows on the stream but I'm lost with that stuff.
And I'm not talking about Sirius satellite I know that is a totally different thing:
Brother Al and I were able to listen to 4/18 Worcester on Sirius in his friends car (yes we sat and listened ) and for heads going back to '77 and '82, respectively, who traded Maxell XL-II 90 minute tapes weeks after a show occurred made on a Nakamichi Dragon thought it was the neatest thing! I will hopefully be listening to the Gorge, if I'm not there---long drive from Raleigh but what the hell, Philly was unplanned!
I'm listening to gdradio.net and it's streaming 6/24/03 (which I saw some shows too); I was first fooled thinking "wow the boys really got it together since Philly"! It's an overall better sound and performance for me as I was partial to Jimmy Herring and Joan, but that's another story...
Sorry for the ramble (on rose)...
I'm pretty stoked to be seeing the Dead, the Allman Bros and the Doobie Bros for $58 at the Gorge! Yes, I remember paying $7 to see them play, but those days are long gone- along with 32 cent a gallon gas...
chuck: gdradio.net has been streaming the first sets during the second for some shows, which is what i think you mean - they have NOT been doing that for chicago tho unfortuntely
Taper Rob uploads the 1st set to live365 at set break when he's recording the show- but when he's not there it doesn't go up. He posts here when he's got one going up. Here's the link:
http://www.live365.com/stations/2012_live
As far as quality mentioned above- I bought the MP3 download of a show (didn't want to deal with converting FLAC on my old pc) and it sounds pretty damn good for an MP3- but not as good as a CD mastered in a studio, but way better than the cassettes I used to listen to in the '80's...
and chuck - when you said "mongolis" i think you might mean Mogulus...they are not doing tonight's show now either though

...annnnd a quick bit of text processing of this thread reveals 143 posts, an NO REVIEWS BY ANYONE WHO WAS THERE.
Why the hell can't this pointless drivel be confined to Other Stuff, which was set up specifically to accommodate it?
Grrr.
>It IS about happnin' NOW, the music NOW, the good times NOW<
relax, friend...I'm all about the now. That phrase you pulled out of context to flame was actually part of a positive statement (though I can see how it might be misinterpreted coming after my expression of mild disappointment in most of the music so far).
"Nostalgia tour"? You don't think that's part of what's going on here? How many new original tunes have been played so far? Maybe you are so into the now that you can hear UJB without thinking back, but I guarantee that if so you're damn near unique.
But whatever...not at all interested in arguments. To set the record straight, I'm enjoying this whole tour immensely, loved the live dose I got in the now, and retain total respect for the musicians. On the other hand, I do have CDs of these guys playing in various combinations in the past and it's impossible not to make the comparisons. In the unlikely event that the band sticks together for a few years and gets some every-night communication chops together the sky's the limit...but that's not the case in the now of this tour. Of course it's not how it used to be, that's a simple statement of fact, we all knew that going in, and there it is. A lot of fun here in the now though, I totally agree with that!
Great show on Tuesday night much more powerful than the previous night. While Warren ripped on a number of tunes on Monday the band played better as a whole on Tuesday. The scene was way more crowded on Tuesday reminded me of the shows in the late 80's early 90's.Good lookin setlist and Chimenti was great especially in the first set(Tenn Jed,Golden Road). The final two tunes of Bucket>Rider was fantastic. I think it brought everyone back to the good old days. I saw alot of high fives going around the arena after that. Can't see this band not doing another tour after what I saw the last two shows.I even met someone at the show who flew in from Hawaii. What other band would cause someone to do that. Good times. Dead ahead everyone. If your on the fence about going to the shows buy a ticket you won't be disappointed the whole band sounds good. And I still can't understand why people criticize Warren this guy is the man.Peace.
>> In the unlikely event that the band sticks together for a few years and gets some every-night communication chops together the sky's the limit...but that's not the case in the now of this tour>>
I was just listening to the second set of the MSG show and there are a bunch of great jams with a lot of interaction between the entire band. Warren is obviously listening and learning to play in this band. I'm not sure they are getting there every night but this is some of the best music they've produced in quite a while.
I made friends with one of the beer vendors who told me that the attendance was 10,000 on Monday and 17,000 on Tuesday - quite the difference
>this is some of the best music they've produced in quite a while<
Agreed!
>>this is some of the best music they've produced in quite a while<< YOU NAILED IT DUDE!! People (including me) can sit hear and complain about alot of different things if we want, and hopefully theyll stick around a little longer and sound even better, but like you say, WITHOUT A DOUBT, this is the best that they have sounded in the post Jerry era!
Agree-by far best lineup of post Jer era!
LOL, I used to sit and complain about alot of different things in the Jer era (too many cowboy songs, not mixing up 1st/2nd set songs, Bobby forgetting words, Jer not into it, lame new songs, lame old songs, not mixing up cities on tours, primitive mail order procedures, Vince, tour rats in the lots) so nothing new there! Bring on FALL TOUR!
Both Bobby and Billy have said in interviews in the last week that they are wanting to continue touring. No way they are just to hang it up when they finally have the right lineup and are sounding this good.
Anyone know what Phil's deal was at the beginning of Touch? It looked like he was waiting for them to stop and maybe restart. There were a couple of points last night where he was leaning on the bass, as if in protest? I'm asking, not stating.
i saw that
my take was that bobby missed the take-up to start the vocals - weir stepped up to the mic to sing, but then didn't
it was almost like a restart - i think it was a little frustration on phil's part with bobby's missed vocal start
Any links to that Bobby or Billy interview about wanting to tour again??
Billy interview:
Q: Is there any chance of doing original material again?
A: Oh, yeah, there will be. As far as I can see, this tour is going so well we'll probably plan another one. That would be my hope.

You better hope that Warren is on board as well, it's not like he doesn't have a lot on his plate already.
Agree. I think at this point it is Warren - or it is not happening at all. C4 are getting too old to start from scratch (assuming here that Kimock is out of the loop for good, but even with Kimock, who's tone is 2nd to none, band would lose too much vocally).
IMO, Warren should give ABB a rest for a little bit. Love the Brothers, but Warren must like the bigger venues and the more intricate Dead tunes, right? Again, love ABB, but seems like a player would find the Dead tunes more challenging, and more open to interpretation.
In any case, Warren has juggled 3 band schedules before (Mule, ABB, PLQ) and am sure he could do it again!
Tuesday's show was another blast! I liked last night's setlist better, but we had better seats for this one. Hell, I even enjoyed the "Truckin'/Throwing Stones combo!
Regarding Warren giving ABB a rest, it appears that will be the case starting next year. Rolling Stone had an article recently about ABB that said they would be permanently cutting way back on their touring starting in 2010. This leaves significantly more time for Warren to tour with the Dead.
Thanks MH-that is EXACTLY what I was hoping to hear!!!
This thread is straying off course and cound be bound for disaster now that Kimock has been mentioned. So just to keep things heading off track..... Steve Kimock is NOT a good fit in "The Dead". I am a HUGE SK fan but, first off, his basic approach to playing the guitar is not right for The Dead and, secondly, we all saw how inconsistent his participation was from song to song when he played with The Other Ones. I have every reason to believe it would be the same situation which would be frustrating to SK lovers and would result in discontent (to put it mildly) for the rest.
Sure wish we coud get some more detailed reviews of the Chicago shows!
Agree on those points. Love Stevie, but "moody" is the word I would use to describe his times with Dead-related ventures.
Don't get SK. He seems so self conscious & precious about every note & slighest variation in pitch.
Let it rip Steve!
No ABB after October, how about some Midwest/Southwest/South Dead dates in Nov??
I was running monitor sound at a venue out west and walked right in on SK crapping in a shitty (no pun intended) bathroom with no doors... poor guy gets no respect! Love that tone- miss the subtleties of tone in this band's leads. Sure do appreciate more and more what a master JG was. But I know there's no turning back- WH is doing a masterful job pulling off 145 tunes in big venues. Maybe by next tour he'll get the arrangements down to second nature and be able to focus more on massaging the tones - he's not a very subtle player in that respect
There was an article in the New York Times regarding the Allmans and how often they will be on the road in the future. I wil try to find it and post the link here. Basically Gregg says that the amount of time they are going to be on the road is going to be cut back, ALOT. Beacon run,but fewer dates and a few select summer shows, thats it. Gregg cites age, health, family, and a desire to not have a demanding schedule.
That leaves Warren with lots of time for Govt Mule and The Dead. He is, IMO, the best fit for the band at this point.
I can definitely see The Dead doing a fall tour and a fairly large 2010 tour. You can see it in them on the stage at these shows the past few weeks. They are loving it. Sucks that tix would be so exspensive though.
Great news Kev - please post NY Times link if you find it!
I overheard two security people as I was walking to my seat at Tuesday's show say "whatever they are doing just let them do it". Just brought a smile to my face. There was a big police presence outside the venue but they were very cool.Hope to see the band on the road and hopefully it will be later this year.

Warren sure is busy these days but here is hoping for a mini Dead west-coast-tour in september
Eugene
Portland
The Greek
The Frost
would make me really happy, then a Dead-athlon in NY in november - bring it on boys!
Thanks for sharing that image, Pin....
Warren has his own tone and we're just gonna have to take it or leave it.
I guess I would agree that he is best for this band. One could argue that Sless would be a good choice but maybe Warren's tone and approach being much further away from Jerry's is a better solution.
Any taper uploads yet? I just searched The Archive and nothing there that I could find....
This was a pretty solid show, maybe even a bit stronger than Monday night. The playing was hot through out, with plenty of nice "Oh hell yeah!" moments. The hightlights of the first set for me were the "Golden Road" and the "WRS~>Let It Grow." The second set might have been short on tunes, but they still delivered time wise. The pre-drums was a good 45 minutes in length. And I personally would not have chosen "Hell in a Bucket" for that spot in the show, they played the f@%# out of it, a first set song with second set execution. The sound where I was was excellent both nights, just loud enough with all the musicians present in the mix (As far as sound goes, location is everything at the Rosemont). As they were on Monday, the crowd was excited and into the music, which I liked. In summation, this was a fun, solid show with plenty of highlights, and I had a great time. I wish I could afford to stay on tour. :-)
