Jimmy & Co. closed out the Jazzfest in Telluride Sunday night to an appreciative if somewhat undersized crowd. Maybe 800 there. The weather cooperated with no rain but fairly chilly.

He played a majority of Lifeboat. Didn't recognize the first two tunes, then he went into Only When It's Light/Transients/Gray Day. Band was in synch throughout though Scott on Keyboards never transported me on solos. Greg solid but not pushing things. Oteils replacement kept things going. Jimmy played a couple of songs from the first Project Z; Utensil Oceans mid set which could be a cut on the latest, and near the end of the set, I think he played Rainbow. Played several covers I believe. Midset could have been Zoot Allure or another Zappa tune, at least it sounded like a head that Zappa would write, and I think he closed out the 80 minute set with a McGlaughlin tune from the Mahavishnu period. Much of his playing was without a pick which I'm not used to seeing, though more pick work later as things heated up. Sipe tore it up as expected. For an encore a very sweet We Started Out As Freinds from Jeff Beck. Great setting with plenty of space. Jimmy humble as ever, removing his sunglasses halfway through and getting animated at the end by pretending to toss his Fender at the tech. Fine band well worth seeing.
