Ticket says doors @ 7pm; any clues what time the boys take the stage??
if it says doors at 7, then i'd say they start around 8ish, setbreak around 9:30, then back on around 10.
The Abbey Road in sequence calls for Octopuses Garden tonight as the fifth song of first set. It's both in order of the album and in sequence regarding the set slot. Enjoy tonight. I'll be there for "Here Comes the Sun" on sat.

r u @ the show?
not tonight.....may go Sunday....then again at Radio City (3/26)
OK So does anyone even remotely think that they'll cover the whole second side of ABBEY ROAD in order in one shot? Then we'd have to call them Phishfur or Furphish but seriously, if they do cover the second side one by one, day by day, then "the end" will be played at Radio City on Friday the 25th. There's a little Short Diddy that is even played at the end of the side as well. That will be very cool."Imagine she's a pretty nice girl....

Lennon & McCartney are singing (uncredited) backup vocals and it definitely is an echo of "All You Need Is Love."
hey thanks for the info..I was listening through the computer speakers without my headphones in
appreciate the insight.
okay, so - What's after Abbey Road? More Beatles?... Stones?... Floyd?
Has anyone checked to see if they are doing entire Grateful Dead albums - but in some type of strange order?
one compilation of abbey road has 8 or 9 tunes the other has like 17 which one are we looking at??
Just popped in to say bbuy security sucks balls. Arrived with ample time till show literally took 1hr to get inside. No bombs detected. Gj blowing 1st set fort a lot of people got in at end of Cumberland blues
hey all just got back. An amazing show start to finish. This band is scintillatingly hot. Saw John after the show on the floor shaking hands taking pictures and saying hello to any and all.
Pretty cool.
i feel so bad for anybody on that line....it was rough.......i admit i totally cut the line...show was great ...period...will talk tomorrow...later

so who sang octopus?
Phil sang it. Quite nicely I might add.
Worst security debacle I have seen at any show. I suspect 30% of the fans missed most of the first set. Just an absolute debacle. Changes need to be made.
VWarning to all!
There is a huge amount of undercover police outside nokia. Gotta be hundreds. I am a very normal looking 42yo professional guy, (no offense I'm not a wookie). Anyway, we were just standing under an overhang 100ft from the door escaping the rain. While i was in my pocket looking for my ticket, me and my buddy were thrown against the wall and searched. We had about a gram of weed between us (not out in the open), And we were cuffed and taken away.
THERE WAS NOTHING OUT IN THE OPEN, WE WERE NOT SMOKING, WE WERE NOT DRINKING. ALRIGHT I DID HAVE A LITTLE BIT ON ME, IN A BAGGIE TUCKED TIGHT IN HIDDEN INSIDE COAT POCKET. PUT IT THERE AT HOME AND NEVER TOUCHED it. WITH THAT BEING SAID HOW CAN THE POLICE JUST SEARCH YOU LIKE THAT WITHOUT DOING ANYTHING WRONG.
WE WERENT ALONE THERE WAS AT LEAST 100 LIKE US. MAYBE MORE. WHILE IN CUSTODY WE HEARD THAT THERE IS SOMETHING CALLED OPERATION DEAD OUT. IF YOU ARE PLANNING ON GOING TO THE NY SHOWS BE CAREFUL AND SPREAD THE NEWS. ALL HIPPIE JAM BANDS ARE BEING PROFILED.
PHIL I HOPE YOU DROP THE BOMBS FRIDAY THRU YOUR BIRTHDAY ON TUESDAY. FOR ALL OF US THAT WENT THROUGH HELL TONIGHT. REMEMBER PHIL WERE YOUR FANS FOR OVER 25YEARS. LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF IT UNTIL TONIGHT.
WHERE HAS FREEDOM GONE.
DDDDAAAAAMMMMMMNNNNNNNNNN! I saw police didnt really think anything about it because. Kinda just blown away from the show and love- Nothing to hide. Smile is all you will ever see from me. I dont do drugs. I just like the rasta additude. no need for drugs. When you have the luv in your heart. its all u need yo. so um - wow didn't see this coming.
tHANKS this is the first I saw this.. Honestly did not see this coming at all like this. This -------------Havin fun --- I feel u r ----i know i am - so sounds good. WOW ok. Keep the luv its all you need people. For me being sober from bews was my best choice - I ever made and that was my only drug so whatever.. Keep the luv and why not keep it clean. To be the best person you can be you need to start early. Being on point is part of that....At least for me.
I'm really sorry to all who waited.
Time tends to loose me. Including shows ---------- I will never be late again.
Ok u rock!

The undercover cops in Manhattan are the worst. They arrest innocent people ALL THE TIME, and something's gotta be done to bring attention to this on a larger scale so people like us don't have to waste our money and time on Lawyer fees and court dates that aren't necessary. They're like this all the time, not just at Furthur concerts.
fender96 - What was your charge? Something like "public possession of marijuana"?? If your weed was never visible (or smell-able) then the pigs were just FLAT OUT WRONG for arresting you. Don't pay more than $500 for a lawyer, this is an easy (one court appearance)dismissal. Fight it until the end.
If the police wanna f**k with us when we're passive, let's just show them how powerful a large group can be when we have a common purpose!
FUCK YOU, NY UNDERCOVER COPS!
So I think this may be all coming into focus. Phil's B-day is next Tuesday. This coincides with the beginning of the Medley which was recorded in one take by the B men. Rumor has it that they will do the whole thing as well. I thought they might break it down like the first side which would mean that "the end" would be at Radio City. I could be wrong which would make next Tuesday's Ticket a very hot one. Wouldn't want to miss it but can't get out of work. And they have Monday off to practice it. Looks like it's coming. "And in the end the Love you take is equal to the Love you make" Sounds like something Jill said to Phil or vice versa. Pretty Schmaltzy but it has been said many times by many people. Gotta come up with a way to be there.
ok people.....line sucked ,cops suck, having said that the girl who searched me found my xanax and high blood pressure medication and opened both bottles and went to throw them in the garbage before i kindly asked her to check my drivers license and my name on the scripts and when i told her i basically would kill her/get her fired for taking away something that i need to have to live and a dr gave me she kindly gave them back to me but she WAS GOING TO THROW THEM AWAY ...total bullshit, i said to her MAY YOUR GRANDPARENTS BE IN ITALY ON A DREAM VACATION AND SOME ASSHOLE LIKE YOU THROWS AWAY YOUR GRANDFATHERS MEDS AND HES DIES...and she got the message...the show was great but obviously the bigger story is the nightmare getting in and the bullshit that went with it
What's up in NYC? Glad no security hassles at the MSG shows I attended in Nov....would have ruined my vacation

Can anyone tell me what their policy was for admitting cameras?
This band used to be associated with counter-culture, but now they're doing shows at a venue that changes it's corporate sponsor every other year and is located in the heart of the area that exemplifies mainstream culture.
It's also rediculous that racial profiling is unacceptable but people view hippie profiling as probable cause. F*ck this system. Let's boycott these BestBuy Shows until the band decides to use their clout to help their loyal (and paying) fanbase.
Unfortunately, there is nothing new under the sun....I was smashed by a Nassau County police horse before a show in the mid 70's. They would tear up the parking lot when the Dead were playing but do nothing when the metal heads were there.
I am truly embarrassed to be a New Yorker this morning.
Is the city so strapped for money, that they have to bust
heads at shows? I'm sure the band has caught wind of this.
Are they just going to stand by and let it happen to fans
who have supported them? At the very least, don't play
Best Buy again!
Come on Phil, step up and protect your "family".
By the way, to the poster who got searched and arrested, it's my understanding that to search you, there has to be "probable cause". If they ask you to empty your pockets and you have weed, you get fined for having it out in public. But I would fight this since there seems not to be any probable cause.
Sam L.
im going to guess all the people who missed most of the first set were the same people standing around not getting in line to enter the venue...i hopped in line at 7:20 and rolled onto the floor as the boys took stage...you folks have to realize we are in NYC, not backwoods upstate ny. these folks have serious threats and things to search for to ensure the safety of everyone there. times square is one of those places in NY that will have TONS of security. heres a tip, don't try hopping into the line at 7:45 and expect to be in early.
to those getting popped for small amts of pot...conceal it!!!!
fender--your experience sounds unique i do not know anyone who got shook down for absolutely no reason. you must have been doing something, shifting around in your pockets, anything...also, you are no longer a fan of the music after 25 years because of that? jeeeeeez
you are all loooking for free passes to bring drugs into these shows and that is not how it works..its not a right for us to be getting high--ITS ILLEGAL, regardless how accepted it is anywhere-- its something we do under the radar. so if you cannot engage in your favorite illegal activity in wide open public maybe you should try to be a little more cautious..or USE YOUR HEAD
as for the show....this was hands down the best sounding show of the tour so far, i was digging it. i really liked the setlist about as much as i liked the wallingford list but the sound at nokia was lightyears better, at least from my vantage points--minus the popping in one of the top left speakers for part of the first set...the boys looked ruffled johnny was gripping that axe like he was hangin on for dear life, bob was staring off in the distance thinking about god knows what, phil had the stone serene look on his face, jeff was throwing his entire body around and making facial expressions (he never does)..they were into it!!..i did not notice russo as much as the CT show...highlights for me included cosmic charlie, lost sailor>saint of circumstance, and the ENTIRE second set, including we love you..very strange song but meaningful
Way back around the time Adam Katz (sp?) was found dead after a show at the place in NJ. I was booted for recording and "escorted" by 4 security types who wanted to take my deck AND kick me out. I told them they could no do that, they jostled me some more telling me to shut up and a few slurrs, they were pulling my legs, twisting my arms behind me....just for words as I was not resisting at all. Finally I convinced them that I would leave, just give me the deck. They gave me the deck, and as I left, I reminded them that the whole thing was on tape. I thought they were going to kill me.....I scooted and got the hell out of there.....never went back.
>>>>>>>> "its not a right for us to be getting high--ITS ILLEGAL"
It's also ILLEGAL for police to search innocent people without probable cause!
We are all innocent until proven guilty.
If any body was at any of the Nokia shows in the past, You have to know the line in is gonna be long! Just get used to it, stop bullshitting around and get on line way early. Then pay for the overpriced drinks inside while you wait for showtime. It ain't gonna change so you must change yourself and stop crying about it!
As for the cop scene: Lion King people don't like the Dead fan base and the cops always step it up for these shows. Ever since the patrons of Lion King complained about the smell of weed coming into the theater during a PLF show a couple of years ago, the security has been bolstered up.
As for Fender96: that sucks dude. I've been in similar circumstance out side of the Beacon for a PLF show. Was dragged downtown and processed and had to take a cab back to the show. Saw the whole 2nd set. Sorry for you!
"Unfortunately, there is nothing new under the sun....I was smashed by a Nassau County police horse before a show in the mid 70's. "
Me too. Although it was very early 80s. I got knocked down to the ground hard. I was scared shitless that I would get stepped on and was really shaken up.
Still glad to be safe at home in Humboldt. This music is not worth putting up with all that.......
You CANNOT legally search someone without probably cause...and if you are stopped by a police officer you need to keep saying am I being held or can I go. They cannot arrest you without your having shown some reason for searching you and you will 100% get off on this. My husband said 100's of people were forced to wait in the rain for hours to get in...and they were examining and searching people 2 X @! Fucked up venue, I agree. Super show. Brownie, before anyone...or sparklers?
>>FUCK YOU, NY UNDERCOVER COPS!
Somebody I know well was undercover in NYC for a number of years. Super nice guy. He's no longer undercover. I asked him about this and yes, they do get dispatched to events, concerts, parades, street fairs, protest marches, etc and they have to arrest or ticket people for small things like open containers and using drugs in the open. He said it was highly unlikely that they would accost somebody in the middle of Times Square for no cause and rifle through their pockets. He said there was propbably more to the story or perhaps the officer made a mistake in identifying a dealer. i.e. another officer said "Guy in orange hoodie just sold me some weed". Second officer sees another guy in orange hoodie and arrests him. He says it's happened.
But mostly he says the work is far more dangerous. Busting street dealers, muggers, and other assorted lowlifes some of whom are packing firearms. And they do it in less than Disney places like Times Square. Bed-Stuy, South-Bronx, you know the big Spring Break destinations. I for one am happy that there are people willing to do this and keep the streets safer for me. Some say fuck you. I say thank you.
I got a citation for drinking a beer on the subway late one night. It was an undercover who stopped me. Dude came out of nowhere. He held me until a uniformed transit cop came and to write me up. Then he went on to other things. I was pissed but the bottom line was that I was doing something illegal. I was stupid and the guy was doing his job. Do I think cops should be looking out for more dangerous criminals? Yes. Do I think busting people for smoking pot on the street is a waste of resources? Probably. Do I blame the police when I get popped for doing something illegal? No.
First of all this guy was NOT smoking weed openly...AND was busted....BUSTING people for smoking a joint in the streets is immoral...there are tons of people blaring music from their cars, hitting people in cross walks, littering gross stuff, beating their kids on the streets of NY...which disturb the peace far more than a blissful cat peaceably smoking his weed...sorry but I disagree about the "should not be smoking or doing something illegal" tone in this thread....this guy was clearly our for a wonderful night of music....The same people who are getting busted at Best Buy are shelling out $$$ of money for their shows...Hello???
Don't worry, you'll be saying "Fuck You" instead of "Thank You" when you get your first taste of being misidentified as a dealer. My case was eventually dismissed, but it cost me $500 for a lawyer because the undercover officer couldn't admit his mistake outside of the courtroom. I could have seen 5 more Furthur shows on this tour if I had that money back!
We're not saying we have a problem with the concept of law or enforcement. We're saying we have a problem when the enforcement officers abuse their responsibility to uphold the law properly. The police only like TALKING about rights, they don't like LISTENING to them.
To those who want to give-in and accept these injustices then fine, but I simply cannot. And I apologize to any reader who may find my perspective offensive.
Maybe we need T-Shirts with our legal rights on them so people can wear them to the show and use it as a quick reference if a cop questions them unfairly...
Be smart. Be safe. Be fun.
The line was seriously an hour long in pissing rain. Even before 7 doors time the line was around the block. They only had three nut fondlers working, how stupid. Inside they were really anal about smoking, even doing the hole punch in your ticket stub thing, I might be making cookies for tonight.
As for the cops I've noticed a huge spike in open container tickets in the last year or so, especially near times shitsquare. a buddy and I each got one outside the nokia last summer. We were getting out of a cab and I had a beer in a brown bag that I had just finished, snagged immediately, tried to argue that it was a recycleable because it was empty, they weren't havin that. That's a revenue thing. I learned that a brown bag means shit. Beer or cocktails in a cup are useless as well. That's a crazy f'ed up weed story though.
On a good note the music was great, 2nd set rocked. One speaker was making a weird noise, hopefully that will be fixed for tonight. I think the guitars were under volumed. Hats off to the band for making sure the place wasn't oversold.
"I was smashed by a Nassau County police horse before a show in the mid 70's."
My brother had a girlfriend back in the late 70's/early 80's that worked in the Nassau County DA's office. They specifically targeted Dead shows at the Coliseum because they knew there would be a ton of easy busts. At least we got warnings about it, but back then there wasn't any way to spread the word except by word of mouth.
Got on line at 7:30. It wrapped from entrance on 44th btw. B'way and 8th over to Broadway and up to 45th, then west about 1/3 down the block towards 8th Ave. Waited approx 1 hr. to get in. Missed first 2 songs and most of Cumberland. Total BS at Best Buy and a real disservice to the fans.
On another note, LET IT GROW brought the heat as did the end of UC, and the inspired take on G-L-O-R-I-I-I-I-I-A !!
Would the cops have been able to arrest as many people if the lines outside weren't so long?
Now I can see why they played We Love You last night. If you know the history behind that song it all makes sense. If this can't be rectified, the can cancel after tonight and I won't be able to go Sunday night, which is fine with me. Sorry for the rest of y'all should that happen, and it won't, but this is nothing new. Next time they come back maybe they should be Jeff Chimenti and Friends, or Formerly Mother McCree's or something else to throw the fuzz.
BEW.....while I in no way condone what happened last night, BB is a very unique place in that it's right where so many touristas go when they come to visit NYC. That's why the cops are so heavy, because they want the visitors to go home and say "we felt perfectly safe and saw no elements of what Times Sq. was known to be 20-30 years ago". You also have the rookie cops that can't wait to bust you for jay walking, anything to write a ticket and this city is in severe need of money. Random searches are COMPLETELY illegal without probable cause so be very careful. Hopefully the word is out and folks will use caution outside the venue. Inside the venue it should be OURS. BB makes a lot of money off this crowd and should show a little leniency, period.
setlist:
>>>>>>> "Next time they come back maybe they should be Jeff Chimenti and Friends, or Formerly Mother McCree's or something else to throw the fuzz."
Or maybe we'll get lucky and there will be a Doughnut Convention on the other side of the city the same night of the show...they cops would be nowhere near the concert!
This security stuff doesn't belong here, this is for reviews. Thanks.
That said, the performance was great! Playin' had a great spacy jam like the early/mid 70's. The sound is excellent, there was some static/distortion first couple of songs but that got fixed. Great multiple Phil bombs during the Other One. Casey Jones ending refrain was repeated at break neck speed by the end of the song. Octopus's Garden was well done, a compilation of all the Abbey Road tunes will be great!
I hopped online at 6:45 and was inside by 7:10 .
Met some zoners from Belmar and Brooklyn online ahead of me.
Great show, as someone said above, some crackling in speakers during first few tunes but they got that rectified. Looking forward to Tuesday!
Things were pretty cool in the venue last night. One of the band crew announced that the venue was absolutly serious about the zero tolerance for smoking policy, which is totally fine with me. A quick, discreet puff of pot for your head isn't going to trigger anybody's asthma, and all you cigarette smokers deserve to jones. Nothing personal of course. Sorry for your pain. I'm sure there's a place in heaven for smokers. I'll stop by and say hi when I get there, an average of 10 years after your premature deaths from smoking related diseases. Sorry, if that sounds really harsh then clearly your doctors haven't been communicating the message as strongly as they should. Smoking is really really bad for you and, more to the point, countless folks like me are sensitive to it and it really bothers us. So thanks for not smoking (and shame on you for needing to be told not to do it by a crew member from the stage).
Having said that, I fully support your right to smoke....where it won't bother others. However, I've been having my show experiences diminished by inhaling your second hand smoke for the last 25 years and it's about time society is getting serious about marginilizing this harmful, inconsiderate behavior. If you have an unfortunate tobacco addiction get a patch or go find some alley and do your drug of choice someplace where you won't force others to inhale your refuse.
But I digress. The floor wasn't too crowded and yes, the place was nowhere near full at the start of the show. I guess it was because the line was being shaken down by security.
What can I say? Is this your first show? I know that if I get there 15 minutes before showtime, there's a good chance I'm not going to catch the start of the show. Poor planning on my part. I think it was Woody Allen who said "time is God's way of making sure everything doesn't happen at once."
As for the searches, I've carried a bottle of water into every show for the last 20 years. I tuck it into my waistband in the small of my back. So try to do a better job of hiding your drugs. More imporantly, BE NICE, BE FRIENDLY and SMILE. Do you think these security guys grew up dreaming of doing this when they got big? This is simply the best job they can do. Are some of them there to steal your drugs for their own heads? Absolutely. Are some of them just looking for an excuse to get tough? Absolutely. However, for most of them, from a competence perspective, these folks are one step below the waitress who can't get your order right. But they are given a little power for these couple hours, so respect it, and respect them because they're people too. The #1 reason they get bad attitudes is that they've had to deal with dicks for the last hour. So if everyone would just be nice to them they wouldn't be quite so fascist and their searches wouldn't be so slow and thorough.
As for the show...
I thought the first set was well played. I will need to listen to the recording for more details. You guys who know me know that I'm all about the energy, which I thought was a little flat through the Cumberland. The Cumberland was peppy but not particularly long or exceptional. I think a lot of it is that the crowd is just getting used to learning how to listen to John's guitar "voice." They just don't know him well enough to know, "alright, he's really going to start to kick it into high gear here...let's get excited, etc." I hope that once they get to know him better there will be more crowd energy. We can all dream, can't we?
Cosmic Charlie seemed to have some nice peaks and gelling.
Octopus's Garden was delightful but way too short.
I thought the end of the set was very well played.
Lost Sailor >

I really dug Set II. I liked that they did a stand alone Playin (including the reprise). I enjoyed Colors of the Rain.
The transitions seemed to be very smooth and well thought out and practiced. Especially between LIG, Slipknot and We Love You. All were strong. I don't have any complaints whatsover about the We Love You. Would I like to also hear 30 other Rolling Stones songs even more? Absolutely. But WLY was a very interesting choice and is very different from much of their other work. It evokes a nice mix of sentiment, nostalgia and wierdness.
Playin' In the Band
Colors of the Rain
Let It Grow>
Slipknot>
We Love You
Unbroken Chain> Pretty tight and one of my faves.
Wharf Rat> Loved it.
The Other One> Solid, but I don't think it was as long or jammy as the last one they played.
And then I had to leave to catch my train. It would be really nice it the band gave some indication of the actual end times of their shows. Last summer I missed a lot of first set songs because I had expected later starts but they went on pretty close to the ticket time.
I plan my work schedule around which train I need to catch to ge to to the show and get home afterwards. It sucks to have to walk out on a Terrapin to catch a train because I scheduled an appointment for the next morning based on catching the 11:52 which I wouldn't have done if I knew I would have had to catch the 1:52 train.
Why the heck can't they just say:
Doors @ 7pm, Show @ 8pm, End by 11:30 or 12:00 or whenever???
Oh, and by the way, why is it that when I do a Phish presale, I get word back before the outlet on sale date whether or not I got tickets already, but with Good Old GDTS, I need to buy my tickets through mailorder and then again through ticketbastard because GDTS can't turn around the mailorder results fast enough??!?!?!
Well, more than enough ranting. Have fun at the shows.
Anybody have any extra 3/15's or either NYC Saturday? Thanks.

As for the cop scene: Lion King people don't like the Dead fan base and the cops always step it up for these shows. Ever since the patrons of Lion King complained about the smell of weed coming into the theater during a PLF show a couple of years ago, the security has been bolstered up.
Right--this is exactly why the security is what it is.
The cops are out on special detail at every ABB show too. This is nothing new. They are however much more aggressive than in the past. It's strictly an effort to get the numbers up. Budgets are getting cut everywhere and the cops don't want theirs cut.
As for this BS with the line. Stop defending the Nokia. I've been to tons of Nokia shows over the years and never seen anything even approaching what took place last night. They need to figure out a way to make sure that does not happen again. Opening the doors earlier and having more line personnel in place would probably do it.
I have seen some misinformation here about the actions of the undercover officers outside of the Best Buy last night. For clarification, a police officer does NOT need "probable cause" to "stop and frisk" a person. The legal standard for a "stop and frisk" is "reasonable suspicion," which is a much LOWER standard than "probable cause." A police officer needs "probable cause" to ARREST an individual, and certainly that standard can be met if an illegal substance is found on a person after a "stop and frisk." Unfortunately, hanging out and rummaging through one's own pockets in an area that the police suspect to contain drug activity MAY satisfy the standard of "reasonable suspicion," and legally permit an officer to conduct a "stop and frisk." The best way to avoid a "stop and frisk" is to not hang out by the venue before the show. Just get on line and go in.
What Mojohand just said and also don't have an open container, not even in a brown paper bag. If you got drugs, the cops can do what ever they want if you have an open container concealed in a bag. Happened like that to me. Just sayin'!
ENJOY THE SHOW ZONERS AND ALL!!!!!!!!
S "Stop and Frisk"?What F-ing planet do I live on?I don't want to go anywhere a "Stop and Frisk" might happen to me,period!!
Here's the real deal:
The cops don't need you man and they expect the same.
They were doing the same thing back in the 90's at some GD shows too.
Drugs are illegal.
Do it openly = get arrested.
If you are stupid enough to party openly, then do cry about...learn your from it?
The guy who blames Phil for his poor judgement kills me....sorry dude, Phil doesn't think it's a good idea either.
Yes, a "stop and frisk" can happen to you anywhere if the police have "reasonable suspicion" that you are engaging in potentially criminal activity.
Its the context that's important here. It is common knowledge that marijuana, along with other substances, has a pretty strong presence at GD-related events. We know it; the public-at-large knows it; and the cops know it. That's why they are there. Yes, the police are out to get you. Because this is so, behavior that would not normally seem suspicious (i.e., rummaging through your pockets while talking to a friend), can take on an entirely different meaning (particularly in the minds of a police officer) outside a venue hosting a Furthur or Phish show. Unfortunately, the law is the police's side here.
I am not saying that the law is right in this regard. I didn't make the law. The Supreme Court did in a case called Terry v. Ohio. I am just trying to provide some knowledge and information to people so that they can protect themselves.
Do they start Let it Be album in Philly?
BEST BUY CAN DROP OFF THE FACE OF THE EARTH!!!! THIS PLACE IS THE WORST VENUE EVER!!! AND THEN ADD THE SECURITY AND YOUR IN HELL!!!! YOU REALLY ARE!!! IF THERE WAS EVER A FIRE IN THERE YOU WOULD NEVER BE ABLE TO GET OUT!!!
Missed first few tunes (Sittin; High on Mntn; Cumberland) due to line as mentioned in my previous post. Got situated in time for...
Cosmic - good clean fun.
Octopus - perfect Phil cover. Very animated and SWEET harmonies from JP and Sunshine.
Sailor - EXCELLENT. JK had liftoff. Very powerful.
Saint - Phil literally squared his shoulders, dug down, and tore into beginning of Saint. Slightly disjointed middle No outro solo -- boo. Not the rager it could be -- a bit plodding.
Casey - thumping. Russo just killed it at the end. Monstrous. Great JK vox -- right in his wheel house.
Playin - fantastic w/ big ears from all players. Excellent jam that was more melodic than spacey.
Colors - this was pretty raging. Tune is really shaping up, but bridge still seems off. Needs more structure from JK to define and round out. Kinda like how Jerry neatened up Victim back in the day. Needs a nip and tuck.
LET IT GROW -- highlight of set for me. Thunderous. Bobby really buckled down w/ JK and it was shredded in style.
Slipknot - excellent and unexpected as was...
We Love You -- very nicely done and trippy as hell. Love that this is in rotation now. Obscure, weird, cool, and good.
Unbroken Chain - also a highlight. End jam was all aces. Really impressive.
Wharf-- majestic as always, and well sung...but I thought we needed something more up-tempo in the slot. Just my $.02
TOO -- upper stratospheres. Phil cracked open his Hurt Locker and detonated one bomb after another.
Terrapin -- typically stunning. Full stop after Station. Quickie Weir/Lesh huddle>Bob takes to mic and says something along lines of "one more round," then they rehash last licks of Station before launching into Transit. Terrapin Flyer was very playful and colorful, exquisite playing. Russo crushed it.
Gloria -- Bob brought the heat. Serious fire. Brought the house down. A real guns blazing version.
Great set w/ many twists and turns and an unusual sequence of tunes. FYI -- Bobby played Pinky all night long.
"This security stuff doesn't belong here, this is for reviews. Thanks."
It's part of the experience so it's part of a review. Nothing wrong with that.
Understand the comments about the undercover cops and the Mojo's excellent legal notes.
Of more concern is the iron fist security INSIDE this venue.
This place ain't the Noke of the Phil 07/08 shows.
Time for the band to move on to a more copacetic spot.
