WHATS LEFT FOR THE REST OF THE TOUR?
lots
money for gas, ashes and glass, corrina looks mind bending
dont forget two djinn
How do yall think the band will fare upstate after the past three night city run?
The last Corrina on Phil's birthday was seriously amazing... played flawlessly complete with Bob staring out into the crowd on each unison hit with a bad-ass look on his face.
Pumped up for this show, Lewiston was last I saw them. I would definatly not mind hearing Corina or Two Djinn tomarrow. I'd love a Dire Wolf and Dear Mr.Fantasy...really so many. a good show to one and all that will be there

James cool link. The rotation was interesting especially that the most played furthur song is viola lee blues.
when did they do a Tons of Steel?
anyone please?
Lewiston was my last show too. My all time fav GD show was the May 70 Harpur/Binghamton show with New Riders opener. Gonna break out the Dick's Pick from that show. What a night. More Dead, I mean Furthur! Wish I was going tomorrow.
There have been a lot of covers/collaboration with the English rock scene (i.e., Floyd, Stones, Beatles and now the other EC). Does anyone think they are headed across the pond at some point? The GD went in 72, 81 and 90 while Ratdog went in 2000. Is there a pattern here?????
Have an extra if anyone needs.
Barnpresents is a great website, I agree.
Counts Viola Lee 3 times each show it appears, however, since it takes
Viola > Dark Star > Viola > DS > Viola
as 3 Violas and 2 Dark Stars
That just ain't right!
You guys are due for a CRAZY FINGERS or ALTHEA
Viola>Dark Star>Viola>Dark Star>Viola
I count that as one...ONE big ol SAMWICH comprising of ONE Viola, and ONE Dark Star
That is me though 8-)
PUMPED FOR TONIGHT!!!!
I'd love both of those as well, hopefully a Cold Rain & Snow

Love that old arena! It's been a while since I've been: Dylan/Natalie Merchant in 1999. Before that, CSN 1984, 86. Talking heads stop making sense, Yes 1980, Allmans January 81, The Dead, '83....and to think tonight's show is all GA! The above picture makes me feel like a kid in shorts on a muggy day: I'm already picking my seat....

BAHSTID'S - Peaceful Valley is on my list of songs to see & I once again missed it by 1 show - and they did it @ Barton Hall last year - a mere stone's throw from Binghampton - you'd think they'd notice those kinds of things when they craft setlists - but @ least I know it' on their radar - maybe this summer

Muchos Garcias for the Stream
Did Bobby sing Sugaree this time? Cuz if he did the set looks charged with Bobby tunes. Anyway I'm not there but even though the setlist looks pretty tight the highlight appears to be the "Shakdown Street" before the show. Just like the old days!!
As for all the folks who were arguing on the zone the past few days as to who "owns" the music and who has a right to play it etc. etc. I can only say that I always thought that the greatest thing about music is that it has always been the universal language that everybody has a right to enjoy and reproduce in whatever creative way strikes them at the time. We may not like all of it but the great classics of old were "given" to us to appreciate. Nobody really "owns" it except from a legal perspective. So don't kid yourself into thinking that we as "east coasters vs west coasters" have any more right to complement or complain about certain choices that furthur makes any more than someone from another country. So the fact that they choose to express their new spin on certain Grateful Dead tunes with other musicians is their own business and hopefully ours to appreciate.
I mean 21 years ago Branford Marsalis did some amazing things with the band at Nassau Colliseum. Lucky there wasn't a blog then cuz I don't even want to imagine what some of the "downer" zoners would have said that night. I bet Branford was one of a handful of African Americans even present on tour at that time for god's sake!! His appreciation for the bands music was unprecedented and I for one was lucky enough to have seen him work his magic with the band. So enough of the negative waves on this issue. Enjoy everything they give us cuz there ain't much time left.
Peace
Cosmic > Great sounding Stream! Thanks a bizillion!!!

james is it under community, the forum????
wlewis - what an awsome show that would be!
Back to the Beatles again I see. I guess they will probably play the tunes from that album that they thought they did really well. I was fortunate to see that one in Boston and thought it was done beautifully. I don't see them doing the medley again although they did do another tease on You never give me your money. That song is fitting for many bands as it was written by the Beatles in response to their dealings with Apple Records......"you only give me your funny paper" How true with the way most record companys treat young musicians! That's why we are so fortunate to have the vast library of live Dead, Furthur, Phil and Bobby shows cuz the Dead said screw you to the record industry!! Rock on!!
the discussion board is under community .
just create your account and you're off !
grateful thanx,mr.terror...

Didn't they own apple? Love them doing beatles tunes they really do them justice.that birthday show medley was a real treat.some asshole was bitching a few feet behind me about "stop this shit and play G.D. Songs" can't please everyone.
Eventually owned it from what I heard. I read the part about what the song means on some website. Maybe they were referring to Capitol but the words make sense. Yes I would have loved to have been there for that show. Should have been but I just didn't pull the trigger. Glad you enjoyed it.
Willie, read my earlier blog, a long one on the "bitchers" and tell me what you think.

I agree with the asshole.
Let's see- I only notice 3 tunes from last night's setlist that were not in the GD's repertoire... am I missing something?
Good Morning ya'll reporting from the lovely Red Roof in in Johnson City over looking the Elimira River valley.
Wow after the the lack of space space on Sunday to the open floor last night was a welcomed blessing.
Nups I went by the Terra Cotta and it was a very festive scene but obviously did not hook up with any zoners
The band sounded good although they needed to be louder since there were so many peeps in there.
The mini shakedown was fun and it was a live let live, the cops were not really doing anything , although no public drinking or nitrous mafia at all I even saw the real mayor walking with his wife, as they were going to the show as well.
Inside it was very loose but the place filled up has many local jumped on the bus. The floor was so packed that I had to go behind the sb to dance.
Passenger was competent, nothing crazy John was alittle sluggish but JEFF!!Haha he was the soon to be MVP tonight.
Music was a great improvement and John started to wake up but Jeff threw some fire under his butt.
Crazy Fingers was good and Phil was coming through nice. The mix was better than Sunday night although this version was not as good as the Best Buy on Phil's birthday.
This set turned on a dime with a excellent version of the Race is On and John stepped it up. It was wildly received by the crowd and turned into a great sing-a-long.
John did a great version of Peaceful Valley and then they jammed in BT Wind, which I heard they sound checked, and man was this the best song of the set so far. Great command performance from Bob and Jeff and John really soared on it.
I can't wait to here this one again.
They have not played Sugaree nearly as much as they have in the past so it was welcomed and Bob and John traded off verses which was fine with me. This one was similar to a slower '77 style and man this got good. I mean Jeff on the baby grand was superb all night but he really hit his stride in this one and Jeff raised him by one by playing some stretched out runs
Then a screaming Bertha and here we go again
Very strong finish and the band was clearly in the zone, as they all seemed pumped.
For a side note there are small group of dancers, who are all really good, and we finally got it all together and made it happen. Some great Wharf Rats were in the mix as well and they kick some serious dance butt as well.
It is so much fun when the stars align and we can go tribal. The guys at the sb must love us lol. It was the best dance scene for me since Sunday night at the Mann in July and it got better in the second set.
For me this set was my swan song set so it was all gravy for me, although I did have one tune that eluded me that I wanted to see, so we would see if they would grant me my wish.
They began with a nice jam, that could have gone into Help on the Way but went into a rocking version of Truckin' that was flawlessly executed and they pushed the energy over the top big time and yes they did do the two peak jam. This one was way better than Best Buy. So we were off and having a ball.
You know Speedway had to be about our Libya "intervention" and this was very powerful with Bob and John trading off verses, sensing a new pattern here?
They nailed it big time )))
Then into Cosmic Charlie? Of coarse I thought of Adam and man did they do his memory justice, a wildly energetic version that was intense. Maybe the Speedway was for him as well?
Then maybe the best song..so far with Something in the Way She Moves. My GOD this was amazing and the band placed a majestic version and John was so sweet on it, but honestly Jeff was KILLER on it on the baby grand.
The tour heads and the entire audience were in pure bliss.
As a side note I meet Jeff's personal chef on shakedown who was selling baklava and that was KILLER LMAO.
Then I FINALLY got my song and the transition out of Something into The Mountain song was beautiful and this version was played in a faster tempo which made the song even more powerful and they soared on it.
"Gonna make the mountain be my home" Wow thank you Furthur!!!
Phil was intense in it and he dropped several bombs as well.
((((Pure bliss)))
Then they jammed out of it and ended up playing the final coda of Scarlet before going into Scarlet. Man the ones they have been playing all tour have been super and you have to add another one to that pile. Man it was wild and then a wicked Fire on the Mountain and it was all gravy.
SOTM was a good choice and they played a sweet, sweet version with Jeff and John really continuing the great playing.Bob shined on this as he was perfect all night and really pushing the envelope all night
Then a rip roaring GDTRFB and they blew the roof off the old Broom County Arena and then a welcome and joyful reading of We Bid You Goodnight which had the entire band glowing.
Very well done and Jeff and Sunshine loved it.
Jeff was bowing to us lol
Phil came back for a very thoughtful final thoughts and they sent us on our way with a cranking sing-a-long US Blues.
Obama are you listening?
After the show I went to see, on a recommendation from Sunshine, Crosswinds an acoustic trio with a beautiful and killer fiddle player, who wears hot boots as well. They were very good and was a nice way to hang with the locals.
Happy trails ya'll
ted,
breakfast at wegmans across the street?
...
OOOOOH wegmans is the best. Beats anything around Boston and I'm from western NY originally. Wish I was there for the Wegmans breakfast encore!!
Tede, Thanks for your thoughtful and detailed review. Sorry to hear so many people packed the floor. I started drooling when I saw the pic yesterday of the that arena. I was twirling in my head!
Hey Ted, always love your reviews, thanks for the insight on the show!!
My pleasure writing the reviews. Do'h! Jacks I thought about Wegmans but never went in. I ended up going to the Broadway diner, which was ok.
It was not that bad on the floor. The one thing I forgot to message is that many peeps got thrown out for smoking, this and THAT. The cops just walked thrown the crowd solo and nailed peps. That was a bummer.
I just got home and need a nap now. lol
One last thing the name of that band was Driftwood, not Crosswinds. lol
I can't stop wondering . . . if it could get any better than this.
Hey Howie; "IT" is still happening. The shows in NYC and Wallingford spell it out for me. "IT" is all good. These guys have taken something that was never to be topped and made it better. No disrespect intended Jer.
This Ted dude's review is spot on. From where I danced (with both my boys dancing a bit more feavered than I at times, both right in front of me, to touch my grown babies shoulders when the times were right, and there were many; "IT" could not have been better). My only regret is I didn't pull the trigger on the Florida deal. Ahhh, just as well, me bones need meanding after last nights dance fest. "IT" is still a beautiful thing.
Ditto - amazingly good show. Had a fucking blast.
i was at terra cotta with gratefulbillnj ducttaped to my back and i didnt meet 1 zoner...where were all of you?...anyway great time good show...i agree 90% with teds review....worst part was no shakedown after the show
Bill and ob we were so close maybe we need to hold up signs next time?
Loved the second set, it was smoking from the opener until the end. The 1st set was a little herky jerky. Found most of the people I was looking for and had a great pizza dinner at Buds on the way down.
Crispy critter today, one kid put me over the top the last period of the day....ready to hit the sack now.
A few notes on last nights show:
Furthur has most definitely reached the level where they are able to consistently present well-played shows. Even after a three night run at RCMH, obviously tired, this show was great.
Binghamton is naturally a bit sketchy as its sort of a rust belt town... and I felt this reflected the crowd. I'm going to sound condescending here, and while the "dark side" of the scene is always present to a certain extend I have never seen a more - for lack of a better word - 'dirty'crowd.
I saw multiple people look like they were half dead before the show ever started. After the first set, I had to move to the soundboard area from my normal roost a rows from the rail as people were throwing up in the crowded space... I have also never seen such a vast plume of cigarette smoke covering the floor. I think smoking cigarettes inside shouldn't be allowed.
I agree that the first set was a bit "herky jerky"... Took a while to dial sound in sound as the venue was basically a cement and metal box. By Bertha, we were in... it soared! Great solos by John and Jeff.
Moving back to the sound board was a good decision... more room, sweeter sound. Catching a Truckin' upstate was awesome and the whole sequence through Cosmic Charlie was wonderful. Something was beautiful... Jeff shined here. The Scarlet>Fire was amazing. I was bummed at the sights around me, one may say I was confused... but then, I listened to the music play and the energy in that hockey rink transcended. They played the coda to Scarlet Begonias before going into the first verse; very cool.
We Bid You Goodnight... yes.
Phil earnestly says: "you are all as responsible for this as we are"
U.S Blues... could not think of a better way to send us off. A natural choice for the Veterans Memorial.
Personally I'm not in love with the 1st couple minutes of "The Mountain Song" (especially after the high of "Something"), but then it does take off and rocks out!
P.S
I've been seeing John play for a while... before Furthur was created. He brought his voice to place I haven't heard before on Peaceful Valley... this thought may have surfaced in the moment, still need to listen to the recording but it was way cool.
Nice review Ted. Well said. Perfect really.
Driftwood is good people and worth suporting. Funny story about that place, Atomic Tom's. Tom is a great guy who's done a ton of great things for Binghamton. He's a genuinely nice guy.
Which is why my partner put them in there even tho theres issues with the guy who runs the bldg....
Originally Garcia Grass was booked there for the after party, till "Handy Randy" (bldg mgr) caught wind from his "Eyes in the sky" lol, of the "element that comes with Furthur" & then said he didn't want that in their building or on their block, lol. Then he told me we had to charge $20 for tickets to keep "those people" out of the building. I told him to go fuck himself no way I'm charging $20 for an after party nor am I creating that vibe ha ha and started looking for another venue.
And so it was born at Terra Cotta. Did the leg work on my own to get the mayor to put shakedown st on State St on The Strip & as you saw, it all worked out well, and people like John (Terra Cotta) and John (J Dub Allstars) & the local Johnny Law, I can't thank them enough for all their efforts in making yesterday welcoming....
Thanks Nups a very compelling story there, who would have known Binghamton was so political ;)
Too bad we did not cross paths. What is the 411 on Claire?
Hey Vince, I didn' t see any puking, but Kelley my work bud came back with a soda and said some chick projectile vomited walking on the concourse and some hit him. Kelley is a real mellow dude, he said people scattered, the chick just wiped her mouth and went on her way. There were some drunk mother f-ers stumbling around the crowd. It's a r-n-r show granted, but know your limits. Reminds me of the mid 80's in Rochester, some knida drunken frat party.
Smoking second set, made everything worthwhile oh and the free parking at Boscovs, thanks Boedi for the tip.
Some of these new songs have become highlights for me. Mountain Song was without a doubt, one of the highlights of this show for me. :P Best show that I have seen from tour thus far ;)
