The mothership. So excited couldn't wait to start thread. 7th row Jk side. This is going to be a great night. 6th Furthur show. Taking a buddy to his first. This show is going to space. Have phun phreaks. One more thing broken arrow Phil. APRIL FOOLS
Oh you had to go ahead and throw the Hampton thread together! I cant wait!!! looking for a Darkstar Orchestra style reproduction of the Warlocks 10-9-89!!!
I was thinkin the same thing, kykind. Whatever they do, it's gonna be interesting. If Blues for Allah reemerges, mothership is taking off! Can't wait ya'll.
Straw - Only jumpin' in cause you've been here already - have an ossom time wid yer bruddah in hampton @ 'the mothership' - I'll be thinkin' of ya!
Hated to pass this one up but will be there in spirit. Without a doubt, the power spot indoor venue on the East Coast. Much history and positive waves in that space.
If anyone finds part of my cerebral cortex on the floor about 5 rows up from the board, hold it for me. I left it there 10-9-89.
Can anyone recommend a place to stay or a campground near Hampton?
ahh I can't wait!
Maybe they will switch instruments ala Bozos and Bolos
PREDICTION: The Who "Won't Get Fooled Again"
BLUES FOR ALLAH! YEAH!!! Really tick off the 'critics' that couldn't deal with WBOTB!! 10-9-89 is definitely on my list of top 10 tapes to take to live on a deserted island. Love then "Warlocks!" Enjoy Phans!
I am staying at the marriot within walking distance...there are plenty of hotels with in walking distance or very short drive...for the phish reunion i stayed 3 miles away right on the water pretty sweet hotel...
Hey Phillyphil..That is what I was thinking...:-)
Can anyone recommend a good place to eat within walking distance? we will be hitting the marriot hotel around 5 PM and will be hungry and want to walk somewhere for food. any good microbrewery or other dinner suggestions would be greatly appreciated walking distance is a must.... I am so excited I haven't been sleeping well all week....and this week has taken like 200 years. Almost there!

death don't have no mercy
ashes and glass
he's gone
knockin' on heaven's door
black muddy river
the music never stopped
golden slumbers
the end
peaceful valley
That's not creepy at all.
They've already switched instruments...you know how they don't like to repeat themselves...
anyone got two extras?
PREDICTIONS: Ship Of Fools, Fool On The Hill (Beatles), Foolish Heart.
And got my fingers crossed for the ever elusive Row Jimmy!
I just LOVE this venue! It should be a fun evening of chaos for all who attend!
No windows 40 feet in the air either.

I had published this in the Pittsburgh thread, and am doing so again so that anyone wishing to reach out to these people can do so. I try to imagine what these parents are going through right now (and for the rest of their lives as well), but even then can't truely grasp at it.
Having recently lost my Mom, the sense of grief is tangible and yet so intangible. Cosmic confusion. Listen to the river sing sweet songs to rock my soul.
Any one wishing to send a letter of condolence to the family may contact them here; remember to be kind.

Wish I was joining you tonight fellow zoners. Having grown up in VA, Hampton is probably my favorite venue on earth. Sound is phenomenal in there. I was there in 89 and 92. I remember the opening HSF first night in 92 like it was yesterday. Still gives me chills. Probably a nod to the epic version busted out on 10-08-89. This will be a killer show. Lots of good synergy between the band and the venue. Only ever Miles Davis "So What" in 88.
anybody know why when I go to philzone.com I got a Phil the poker player now at that address?
April Fools buddy!
Saw my first show there in '79, it certainly is the best (medium size) hall on the east coast. Not surprised that their doing a half sized house set up, makes sense with the seats and should really help the sound in the back. Couldn't make it down but I'm hoping for a stream. Have a great time folks.
I hope so, that I can take ...very funny Brett
Well well well, this is good news:
From Kilowatt:
"Hey Gang,
We're trying a new experiment tonight and hope many of you can join in. We'll be streaming the show live from Hampton Coliseum starting at 7:30 eastern.
Jill will post more details in a few hours
- Phil"

That's awesome news, Tom. All around goodness for everyone! Man, tonight is gonna be so much fun. Heard lot will be in the convention center lot across the street.
Could be a prank, I don't see that message from Phil when I go to that page.
I dont think this address thing is a hoax
how can we get into the main phil zone page?
Bret always does a hoax on April 1. You can still get to all of the discussions, just not the main page.
live Chat?
Good one, Tom Thumb!
Regarding classic April Fools Day gags, the last one that really got me going good was about 8 years ago. Somebody sent me an announcement that GD merchandising was going to be releasing the ENTIRE Europe '72 tour as a multi-CD set! I was just reading and re-reading and drooling for about 10 min, until I remembered the date.
Now, of course, 8 years later, it's REAL! ... (and I can't afford it!)
you've got lots of company. most can't...
btw - the poker player's site is http://philzone.com
THIS site is http://www.philzone.com.
Usually the www doesn't make a difference, but in some cases ...
either way it goes to the poker player. I feel violated
I'm I the only one having this problem? Feelin in the twilight zone here
no is problem for all....might mess up the chat
The zone plays this prank every April 1st. One year, we were redirected to Dr. Phil's site.
...
Ive had so much fun on this site during the tour, the chat has been fun,the hunt for the stream! Its Friday and the band is in Hampton. Lets get our virtual tour on!!!!

I almost didn't make it on Dec.3rd 1979 at the Who Concert in Cinn.,Ohio....I still have extreme trouble in large movin crowds, which can sometimes make being a deadhead quite difficult...RIP Joseph...You will be with me at every show i go.......Blessings and Peace, pamela
stream tonight?
nice picture, of the house as they're setting some lighting looks (circles). What I want to know is what are those chairs doing there? Seems I recall the last time being there (3/20/86) there were no chairs on the floor. They would have only got in the way after reviving Box of Rain after a 13 year hiatus. When that night was over I think I knew what it was like to run a marathon I'd expended so much energy. The floor was quite slick resulting in all the swest from all the crazed freaks dancin' and grinnin' and grateful.
Y'all have a good show tonight!
There has never been a Dead related show in there with floor seats. So strange seeing seats on the floor in that place.
3/20/86 was my 100th show, and my first Box of Rain since my first show, 3/24/73.
floor seats...no bueno
As soon as the lights go down everyone should just fold their seat up and take it to the edge of the floor. Won't happen, but it would be great.
soundcheck:
^^^^^^^^^As soon as the lights go down everyone should just fold their seat up and take it to the edge of the floor.^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
That's exactly what we did in Cleveland in Nov. '02

I'm calling a Shakedown opener, and I'd really like to hear it.
You might get it Thom. Something tells my they're wearing their big boy pants tonight.
no live chat tonight? this sides ok too. hope we get the love, in the form of a stream a friend on live chat was going to try to hook us up tonight, but i don't know if they have posted on this site (SIDE) before any help would be appreciated.

Tom Thumb, then you know what I was talking about regarding 3/20/86. That remains the highest moment I've ever had in a musical experience when Phil sang the first words and we knew it was a special occasion. What a trip that your first and 100th show was marked by that song.
Now as far as the chairs go, yes people, make piles of them like we did at Nassau in '84, unless of course you want to sit down.......nah, can't see that happenin ; )
Anyone got a password?

Adam, I'm killing time listening to the '74 Paris show you handed me at our first meeting. Row Jimmy and WRS. Nice stuff.
I thought you might e-mail me back but seein' u in the chat tells me you are also streamless...
Alas, yes.
But I've filled the gap by playing some first set material from 10/8/89, 5/4/81 (To Lay Me Down!), and now 9/20/74. It's not so bad.

Kamloops, it doesn't bother me that they always play it on Sat. nite, I just like when they close the first with it as it opens up the unpredictability of the second set. I do admit, I don't really like when they encore with it. But then again, over 38 years of this so I have seen many Sat. nite shows!

the death in pittsburgh balances out tonight with a woman going into labor at the hampton show !
No it doesn't,that kid is still dead.
nothing balances out when it comes to such a tragedy!
"the death in pittsburgh balances out tonight with a woman going into labor at the hampton show !"
.....?
Yeah, I doubt the parents who lost their son feel that anything is in balance right now.
Life goes on, though.
James - You may be on troll patrol but that doesn't mean you can become a troll yourself - what a seriously idiotic thing to post - I seriously don't think you can comprehend the tragedy that this kid's death has created for his family. Think about that, please.
you guys are taking it all wrong

A little bit of Joy. We should leave it at that.
it's like at woodstock, four people died but that was offset because four kids were born there too
I don't mean to diminish the kids death
I'm only saying it shows the symbolic balance between the two

>>>the death in pittsburgh balances out tonight with a woman going into labor at the hampton show !<<<
I suspect he means that the balance is in one death and then one birth...
So quick to jump and judge around here. Do you know the context? Worth asking, don't you think?
going into labor and actually having a baby AT the show are kinda two different things.
Labor can last up to 12 or more hours before actual birth.
I agree though, show's two sides of the spectrum. Life and Death.

Comments from the show:
Saturday Night opener on an April Fools Friday - classic Bozo move
Other than a dirge-like Black Peter and a Maggies Farm with a rocky start, this show fing rocked! Seriously, what was the deal with Black Peter?
There was a Supplication Jam in the 2nd set between He's Gone and UJB. At least I think that's where it was. But it was definitely Supplication.
LOVED China Cat > Shakedown FTW. That was the BOMB
THe Beatles covers were cool and Foolish Heart rocked! Nice job John.
WRS > Let It Grow was a treat
SWEET Box encore. THank you FURTHUR, see you tomorrow!

I'm pretty sure it was the Paul McCartney tune from The Beatles Magical Mystery Tour album.
That's "Fool on the Hill"
This is Fool in the Rain:

DID they really play that?!
why play weather report suite in hampton after playing it like two weeks ago in fairfax?
its a nice song and all, but c'mon
there were only two shows in this state why repeat a suite?
and fairfax was the better version in my opinion
wewantphil and imagine -
thank you!
yes, that makes much more sense that it's fool on the hill by the beatles...
great song!
cheers
It was Fool in the Rain by Zeppelin. Russo was a beast.
Didn't see Fairfax but I liked the Weather Report Suite last night.
" a woman going into labor at the hampton show !"
more on this, what happened?
What an incredible evening. Everyone around us was singing along.
woah... ok, so it was zeppelin! nice!
Listening now. This is an absolutely amazing show.
Can't help but think a few of these tune choices were a nod to what happened in Pittsburgh.
for those that were there: how did the floor seating work out??
I am perplexed by the fact that philzone had the April fools day typical fake site all day the night of a show...how did you all get your posts on?
It's unfortunate actually as I went to further.net and actually like their site much better. Not that their is much difference but the webmaster here sort of made a faux pa...I mean I know it's April fools but do you really have to lock up the site with that poker site the day of the show I mean WTF?!?!
Floor seating was very tight. A bit more space wouldhave been handy but a good time was had by all.
I was in row 11. It was OK - at least the chairs folded up. We were Phil side.
Wambulance needed three posts up.........
" mean I know it's April fools but do you really have to lock up the site with that poker site the day of the show I mean WTF?!?!"(NADENERB70)
dude get a clue,, i've been following the tour here in france frome the "zone,,and aint no place id rather be,,, I figurerd out how to get to the "show reviews page pretty easily,, even on fools day!
that is so dam funny....ha ha
Best show of the tour that I saw ( others were 3/20/ 3/22/ and 3/29. The tempo of this show was PERFECT throughout. met some great people from Raleigh Durham, forget their names that really made a great vibe, and some nice southern folks from Roanoke in the line for cds afterwards. thanks yall!
I stand corrected....Fool In The Rain it was and it was great! Sorry. Fool In The Rain, Fool On The Hill...I feel like one of the maroons who claim that Sunshine Garcia Becker is Kesey's daughter raised by Jerry & Mountain Girl because they're confusing her with Sunshine Kesey. Oh well.
The really sad thing is that it took me about half a day after listening to it before it hit me...it was an April Fool's prank! Brilliant. Am I a slow learner or what.
I for one would love more Zeppelin. I really dug the St. Stephen > Good Times, Bad Times at Roseland in 2001. I wonder how much Russo had to do with the choice given his Bustle In Your Hedgerow band.
John really sounded great on the vocals, didn't he? But again with the preposterous vocal sharing by Mr. Weir. Eeeesh. Earth to Bobby...I don't think anyone is walking away from any Furthur show saying, "wow, you know that was really cool the way John sang some of the lines and Bobby sang some." It's not cool, it's distracting! And John sings better than you. And has a better voice. And, with John, I don't have to listen cringing, worrying about whether or not he's going to blow his lines. When it's your turn it's like watching an Olympic figure skater heading into a triple...which is why I don't watch figure skating...it's too stressful. Oh, and by the way, Bob, this is from someone who really loves you and always has and think's you're phenomenally talented.
I'm OK with the different singers singing the different voices of Shannon and Jack Straw. I think the Old Man singing the old man lines in BE Women is less cool, but still rather appealing in a sentimental way. The LTGTRs & The Weights, which were always sort of novelties anyway, are not harmed by the taking turns. But most of the other songs are. There seems to be something egotistical about it. All I can say is that, from my perspective, it's clearly not the best way to serve the songs.
That's my review and I'm stickin' to it!
Peace
