@ Weir on acoustic

caught Ratdog last night up in LA and it was a great show. Weir is in great health and fine form, some of the cleanest and strongest playing I've seen from him on his own in a long time. the band was also the tightest I've heard them since Summer 02. they went out there at all the right times, and kept it tight in the pocket at other times. a definite mentoring and passing of the torch to see Jackie palying alongside Bobby, getting all the subtle nuances down from up close. Jackie took a mean solo in Minglewood that had Bobby and Karan grinnin big. from 1/2 way through the first set to end of show it was high energy, with a choice "Jerry Moment" during Days Between. all of Terrapin was great, to get At a Siding > Terrapin Flyer for the encore was completely unexpected and very good.

this was not the same Ratdog I've seen in the past two years. Bob's in a solid place, looks very healthy and is playing very well. singing strong. I think the upcoming FURTHUR show is 2 weeks w/ Phil could be the start of something very good.

enjoy the rest of your Labor Day weekend!

*HUGE shout-out to DesertDan who made it possible for me, my friends on friday night and a stranger I met after the show for Pozo. class act all the way

I am so glad to hear this. Whenever there is dual energy from Bob and Phil there is great music. I dig any form of the boys, as long as they're passionate and spreading the music. I know these guys inspire each other, especially since Jerry passed on.

2001 was a great year, because Phil and Bobby inspired each other. Remember the Crusader Rabbit Stealth Band? So Many Roads? The Odyssey?

PURE INSPIRATION.

Terrapin

Now, we have FURTHUR. I can't wait to see this band, whether they're good or not. Bobby, Phil, Billy and Mickey have been keeping it real in the true tradition of the Grateful Dead. They have changed the whole vibe and atmosphere as well as the sound of the music.

Although there is a tradition, the tradition dictates that nothing needs stay the same. Honestly, why do you think I went on tour?

Furthur is the new change. Ratdog is change. Phil & Friends is change. The Other Ones etc.

As a Deadhead, all I can offer is some sage advice:

EMBRACE THE CHANGE YOU NEED

GO SEE A SHOW!

Love,
Scott O

At a siding>Terrapin Flyer also appeared at Penn's Peak in July as the encore and was great, what a cool way to end a show. Further should be great, I'm in all three nights!

Agreed Oso,
Bobby is in fine form. The Terraping >other1 transition went some very interesting places.
Days Between brought me to tears. Also Humphrey's the night b4 was AMAZING!
