Off to a fine start by most measurements it seems..... Lets get ready for #2!
Is there a stream for the show tonight?
SHAKEDOWN TONIGHT
I will be down there at 5, can't wait!
I really hope that Bobby lets go of those Jerry songs!! Though from what I see from last night, he wont, and thats really a shame!
I predict a Truckin' and a One More Saturday Night, and I got a Fiver on it.
My buddy and I discussed the logistics last night, of getting to the Bay Area from CNJ, and we figured out that we could hitch a ride on a fast Military plane out of McGuire and be there in a few hours.
But none of us knew if we could land at SFO, or what local AFB was near the BART, so we can't make it.
And neither of us is in the military, so we couldn't come up with a cheap or free ride on an F-16.
Have fun all you show people.

Thats the one I was listening to.. pretty muddy and now it has been cut off. they sound good though
i love the jerry guitar and i don't care if it is DSO guy, this could be a great carnation of the new band if they wanted to really pull off the closest thing to jerry guitar and rock. kimock and herring are really good but this could be a great thing. warren can't handle 3 bands and do it justice and I know a lot of us really want to hear those great Jerry tones, fills, and solos. I hope they do this right and tour!!!
These are the right tones. I don't care who plays them. Phil comes from the electronic world, and in that world, everything is based on the tones. The reason we love '72-'77? The tones and dynamics. Nothing else like it. Period. This is a return from rock to tonality. Bravo, boys. BRAVO.

One More Saturday Night
*************************************************
THERE MAY OR MAY NOT HAVE BEEN AN ACOUSTIC SET..... I CAN NOT CONFIRM IT THOUGH
This was reported to go down before the 2 electric sets.
Phil said something like "Vice had to study for an exam so here we are"
Jump For Joy (Kingfish song -- Phil vocal)
Mountains Of The Moon (JK vocal)
You Win Again (with Jackie Greene guitar and vocals)
Wake Up Little Suzie (Bob and Jackie only)
Ripple (jk/bw Vocals)
>>vocal jam!>>
Brokedown Palace (BW vocal)
I CAN NOT CONFIRM THE ACOUSTIC SET
The second set of this show was Funky and Sweet ! I still cannot believe how damn amazing these guys are. Bobby was right-ON last night but stumbled quite a bit in the first set tonight. The energy level was amazing at The Fox once again, especially during the 2nd set.
I'm sure some may be "hyper critical" of this show. But after seeing hundreds of shows over the years, I have rarely experienced shows like these past two nights.
If these guys toured, I would do whatever I could to see them as many times as possible.
Goodnight
Pretty damn good.
Rock 'n roll tonght, and some amazing moments.
By the way, Phil Lesh is the bass player in this band, and he fucking ROCKED tonight!!!
Wowza!!! Great fucking show... truly great... hooray!!
cats on the bandstand, give em each a big hand, anyone who sweats like that must be alright....right on guys...see you tommorrow, er later today...
Another excellent show here in the good ole bay area. It cracks me up to read reviews of the show by people listening on an AM radio quality stream. I guess that was more last night perhaps since haven't read tonight's idiotic rants.
I have arrived late for both shows and missed most of the 1st sets but have to tell you all that the 2nd sets on both Friday and Saturday have been as good as it gets from these boys from Marin.
I was left depressed after the two night Shoreline run of The Dead since all signals were that this was it and the guys put on one hell of a two night run. But after that let down that we were done for a while it was such a great treat to hear about this Furthur gig run and was fortunate to get tix for all of the shows. Holy moly hss this been a great couple of nights so far!!!!
Thanks Phil and Bob and Jeff for doing these gigs and all props to this new guy John K. since Barry Sless is the only other guitarist I have heard since he rips with David Nelson Band that has Jerry's guitar tones down pat so bless you for the study and skills and spirit.
Props to this guy Joe Russo whom have never heard of and Jay Lane for doing the percussion gig but dude you have got to get some more microphones on your rig as half of the stuff you are doing is completely inaudible.
Phil, please call Billy K. immediately and get his ass over here to the mainland for some rehearsals since am quite sure he will dig playing with John K......
Micky, get on board wtih the program as well.
Peace out and see you all Sunday.
Steve
No donor rap tonight... that has not happened in a long time... part of Phil going Furthur?
The Donor Rap did go down, but from where I was, behind the soundboard, it was inaudible.
What a smoking show!.. I have personally seen >400 GD shows and this was about as close as it gets to what was...
THANK YOU FOR A REAL GOOD TIME!!!!
Jealous....jealous again.
From the east coast
Right on!!!
Tonight should be the frosting on the cake. I listened to part of the second set, on that crackling iphone stream, and I have to say that the China> Rider was incredible. Easily the best IKYR since the Nokia in '07.
The feed did get cut right before the headlight verse and so I went to bed.
What to hear about the end of the set, that looks HUGE!!!
This line up does acheive lift off, and orbit... Phil is clearly having a good time! Further to uncharted territory ?? Time will tell. Please stand by and have your credit card ready.
yes, donor rap from Phil loud and clear on the tapes which are smokin once again....PB&J's....thanks for giving us the music back, not sure why it took 14 freakin years to get here but its good to be back.
They BROUGHT IT BIG TIME!!!
Giving some seriously Good Lovin' to the hometown crowd!!!!
I could write paragraphs about just how tight it all came down...
But with some of the other fine reviews on this magical night... No need to go on.
Beautiful night most definitely!
Did Bobby let John sing more last night?
Lots of shared lead vox throughout with John getting into more and more as the night wore on. It works pretty well on most songs and very well on a select few. For DSO fans, they might want more from John but I'm old-school and I enjoyed m'boys Phil & Bob working it and working it good. Ragged but Right!
Absolutely great show and they blow away the Dead. I know a lot of folks will flame me for the following two comments, but...
1) JK is unquestionably a much better fit than Warren. While Haynes is certainly a very good guitarist, his traditional rock tone and style have never fit the band (not to mention he sings like Brent and I don't mean that as a compliment). JK brings both the tone, style and singing that pretty much all of us want to hear. It's particularly note worthy that whenever JK would approach his mike, a huge roar came from the audience. Whether Furthur continues or the Dead tour again, JK is clearly the man for the job.
2) While it's nice to see Mickey with Phil and Bob for nostalgia's sake, he plays all over the groove - it gets to the point where I wonder if he can clearly hear what he's doing. Drop the second drummer (Jay Lane was pretty superfluous) and permanently hand the drum keys to Joe Russo. The man can lock into a groove! I don't have an issue with Billy's playing, but there's something to be said for youthful exuberance. Russo is not only technically good but can play pretty much anything (check him out sometime playing Bonham's parts with Bustle in Your Hedgerow).
The Dead are purely a vehicle of nostalgia for trying to revive the days of the GD. Furthur allows the music to truly go further - please Bob and Phil, forget the easy money grab of touring with the Dead dinosaur and bring Furthur to the masses!
>> thanks for giving us the music back, not sure why it took 14 freakin years to get here but its good to be back. <<
nice! it is back and full steam ahead!

I won't flame you for having a different set of musical preferences. That said, I can't help but think there's unintended irony in your words.
You wrote "The Dead are purely a vehicle of nostalgia for trying to revive the days of the GD. Furthur allows the music to truly go further."
Yet by bringing John K into the mix, Furthur sounds MORE like the Grateful Dead than The Dead sounded like the Grateful Dead. While I loved what I heard last night, the music kept taking me back, not forward. I heard a Bucket from 92 and a Stranger from 85 and a Help-Slp-Frank from 83 and so on. It was a glorious revival, not a new interpretation.
As for me, it's all good brother. Enjoy it all, regardless of line-up and personal musical preference, because one thing is for certain: we shall never pass this way again.
Who can deny, who can deny, it's not just a change in style?
One step down and another begun and I wonder how many miles.
I spent a little time on the mountain, I spent a little time on the hill
Things went down we don't understand, but I think in time we will.
yeah dude, that help slip frank was really well played
I've heard just a few but that one was played with fervor.
The whole second set on Sat night was SMOKIN! Dunno if anything can blow Friday night's second set away, but the China-Rider and the H-S-F were so damn funky (PHIL- you RULE!)and the whole set just rocked!
I was in the back of the "pit" - center and then behind the tapers and I seriously have not heard these songs played so well, and such an intense energy in the crowd, since like 1989. I would follow the guys FURTHUR than I have done since 91. TOUR ! Bring DSO with you guys. Just play beautiful places like The FOX please and NO SHORELINE!
Any truth to the acoustic set rumor? We walked in during Bertha.... Haven't heard a word about that anywhere else.
I have to put my vote in for this show being the best of the three... there was good use of the fifth dimension
Feel like a stranger was totally off the hook. Way psychedelic. The poking around in shakedown was pretty sweet too. Good loving was super cool too. Unbroken Chain was absolutely severe and sublime.
This was definitely the night to wear your 'special brain'
here's set of pics shot from the balcony. gives a good feel for the venue even if you can hardly see the band.
