Well they played two of the three soundchecked songs. Was 'Fool In The Rain' Sharpied? And will we get it up in Saratoga?
grate show!!! thank you tapers/streamers!!!
Just got home. I did not get that show at all. Except for a few moments in the second set - there was little inspiration and energy. Audience did not help either. Smattering of applause after each song. Jones Beach is usually such a good crowd. Was it the heat and/or the summer Sun night factor? Hopefully, they will pick up steam as the tour progresses.

listen to set 2 here> http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/16077946
Show was fine. Rockin versions of standard fare - excellent renditions of U.B., trippy D.S., JAck -a -roe, -- sure Bobby flubbed the lyrics to He's Gone - but what's new?
It was lackluster energy mainly on the audience's part. Jones Beach staff clearing the aisles of dancers didn't help either -
I give it a solid B or B+. Sure SPAC will be an A. (I won't be there
Anyway - people need to appreciate when they see a solid performance.
Enjoy it while ya' can.
Just got back from stellar show. the weather was supurb with a busy breeze early. well shared first set with everyone getting on board. true grateful dead spirit, then searching for jerry in second set . band was very happy tonight I can tell but was around very good people in section C . they have a tshirt about their four stops in new york and i would say much better than madison square. loved hes gone and dark star. great visuals all of a sudden late on unbroken chains and wheel
nice peppy Dark Star with some pretty danceable sections (for those of us who remember how to dance to music regardless of labels..."Oh, Dark Star, that's a mellow tune, time to sit).
No sense restating my usual Bobby gripes (he never listens to me anyway...Mr. faggety-pants, lets waste our talent and short remaining years rewriting songs that were finished 40 years ago and then make them jarring and grating by taking turns singing the vocals and...ooops). Bobby seemed mostly lost tonight during the Dark Star. He played very little on it. John, Phil & company seemed to be doing pretty well without his help though. DS was definitely a highlight.
Phil opted for the Wheel out of DS, instead of Unbroken, but heaven help us if we deviate from the setlist. No reason to let the spirit guide the choices when it's down there in black and white, right Bob? There also seemed to be some Other One desires by Phil and John but Bob didn't want to do it and that was fine. Blah, blah, blah.
Jones Beach is a beautiful place to see a show. I went for a nice swim in the ocean before the show, rinsed off and walked right in. When the weather's nice it can provide a tough to beat venue experience.
TAPERROB is da man! Thanks again TR. We love you.
LOVED the first set. The second set had it's moments, but something about the flow that was choppy. Not crazy about Good Lovin' as the set closer. But I had a great time and the weather could not have been nicer. My wife is not a huge Furthur fan, probably her 4th show, but she really loved this one.
Sam L.
i thought it was a chopper 5 star special all the way!
Beautiful night. Mellow Sunday crowd. Had a lot of fun.
First set was almost perfect, great surprises. Highlights for me were Dear Mr. Fantasy and Jack-A-Roe.
Phil was on all night he nailed his two vocals. Tom Thumbs was great.
When the highlight of the second set is Half Step, you know the show isn't going down as an all time great. And that was the case for me. I thought they pulled off Let It Grow, extending the jam and finding the way back into it without falling apart. They teetered but pulled it off and I thought it was very strong. Mississippi Half Step was spot on perfect, crisp, tight, very well played.
I thought the set lost its footing a bit during He's Gone. It started to Meander and never quite recovered. Dark Star had some nice mini-jams but as an overll piece I thought it was just okay.
Unbroken Chain was jammed out fully and it was a keeper for sure, one of my recent favorites if not my favorite Furthur version.
Wheel>Good Lovin' sure, fine, not how I would call it up but it was fine.
Bob had a big flub on Brokedown Palace which took away something from the set overall.
Nice job though by everybody and no real complaints.
Hope to catch another show but might not be in the cards.
OK - so what does everybody think of the light show? They are part of the show too - as we all know. I would like to know if the computerized, pixelated lights somewhat irritated anyone else? I kept seeing " A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away" sweeping up the screen during Dark Star. Candace brought living spectral particles to the bouquet of sound. Can we maybe try to keep closer to that for reasons of integrity? How about this? We find an old overhead projector, a clear glass plate and some colored water and charge folks 100.00 to play with it for 20 minutes or so. The proceeds could go to organ transplant research or whatever the Band deems worthy. BTW - this is NOT nycdave - its a tour buddy of his. Thanks - I really would appreciate some feedback. Peace, all. See you at the next show. Heather
had a great time, always love Jones Beach
nobody really has mentioned the Unbroken Chain which clearly was the highlight of the show (at least for me) John owned it, great jams, great energy...they crushed it
the nitrous scene in the lot 75 feet from the main exit after the show was a sad joke...dont people know that Nassau county is not the place to brazenly fill balloons with that crap?!? the po po had a field day
I found the back screen projections (Bethel) somewhat distracting and rather 'busy'. Bit over the top really. Lesh is more.
Loved the show!
Only one way to describe the off the charts Dark Star jamming:
BITCHES FUCKIN' BREW!!!!!!!! (-esque)
My three year olds expressions sums up the feeling of the night.
His three week old sister just had one great first show! Thanks to all the Kind folks sitting near us. What a fantastic night.

Awesome pic. trailhead!!! My kids should be soooo lucky and happy soon enough. Your photo is motivating!
>> nice peppy Dark Star with some pretty danceable sections (for those of us who remember how to dance to music regardless of labels...
I danced my ass off to Dark Star... I literally couldn't stop moving... I don't ever plan to dance or not dance ("I will have no plan and stick to it"), but I have to say that it's pretty rare for me to find myself moving to the whole tune. They killed it, in a good way
And Trailhead: I agree completely with your three year old! The look on his face must be what I would have seen had I had a mirror handy during Unbroken Chain !!
Question for all you history buffs... any thoughts on why they played both He's Gone AND Brokedown? seeing Chimenti play Brent's Hammond B3 got me to thinking it was a nod to Brent, but he died on July 23, not July 17th. Perhaps I am reading too much into it ;) Often the case... any thoughts would be appreciated!
In any event, I can't wait for the Vibes... I have seen this band consistently since Wallingford in December 2009 and they just keep getting better!
actually, Brent died on July 26th....
love the pic trailhead. i have a four year old - perhaps its time!
I loved the show.
"Audience did not help either. Smattering of applause after each song. Jones Beach is usually such a good crowd. Was it the heat and/or the summer Sun night factor?"
more likely, it was you...big crowd response throughout the entire night, with happy people dancing and grooving...security was mellow, as well
It was n awesome night for me as well, my first time ever there.. we both agree on the Bitches Brew !!! nice groove around us till the two drunkest yaa hooers came in and sat directly behind us !! They were filling their cola with lil bottles of rum, at last count there were 10 of em around our feet !! After singing ( RUNNIN NAILS DOWN CHALKBOARD) loudly behind me for most of the first set, she decides she's gonna clap in my ear, hitting my head a few times.
Then the second set, and from the He's gone take off >> she is not happy and starts yellin "PLAY A GOOD SONG !!! about 10 times. But i knew we were in trouble when she grabs me, pulls me toward her and says, "I hate this weird shit" !!! all the while spitting all over me..ughhh!!
I replied " Well, We LUVVV this weird shit" so will you please respect and SHUT THE FUCK UP "!! It only got worse, i think she would have been happier at a Jimmy Buffet sing along show... We moved from our awesome seats, and i'm glad cuz a fight broke out a lil later between them and some others.
...but other than that, i tried to block out the bad ju~ju.....and enjoy the show, ohhhh....and that MOON !!!
The spirit of sound is with us all.
