you ever notice how Bobby sings GREAT when he's alone but when he's with Furthur he seems to be off?
just my take on it!
Mighty Swell
That's the type of song that Bob will over dramatize in his Shatner-esque worst way. Bet the music was great though.
I hope so. Got tix to see him

It's a pretty dramatic song, I look forward to hearing it.
Hope someone posts a link to the first set.
I agree that it's a dramatic song. The question is how well does Bob do drama?

My question is.....Was Morgan totally giggin' down??!!
Who sang Prudence?
Bobby sang Dear Prudence and sang it quite gracefully. Excellent arrangement. Smoking solo from John and terrific bass from Phil.
Nice boys

Weird, looks like that archive.org link got yanked. I was getting it this morning on my iphone. Would kind of like to hear this one.
"Bob sang Mission...."
Ugh!!! Why can't they let JK sing this song?
So does Jill get credit for this set list, who ever put this together deserves a frigging ton..........?
So does Jill get credit for this set list, who ever put this together deserves a frigging ton..........?
thats definitely a bob/matt setlist
I'm still listening to that archive link....
Really good show!
> Ugh!!! Why can't they let JK sing this song?
Bob did a great version of it - his voice was solid and strong last night
i know Bob can be off sometimes, but last night wasn't one of them
John sang Might As Well and was really powerful with it too
I usually don't chime in on this who should sing what. I'm just grateful. I really want to hear a decent tape along with the rest of the show which does look epic from the set list. I think its a huge tribute to Jerry; remember? him pleading, while whining, during his emotional outcry..."I turn and wak away, then I ... come round again, It looks as though tomorrow I'll do pretty much the same"...... Jerry just did IT for me and I miss him so.....Back to who sings what, like I said, I usually stay out of it and leave it to the players, and I acccept what we get and smile. But on this one, if I had a vote or choice, I think it would be better received if JK sings it. Hmmm perhaps, that could happen this coming Tuesday for me. One can only hope. I really wish I made it to this show. It looks to have been a very hot night. I need to search for a dl or at leaast a sight to hear it. Again, the fact they pulled this song out is a tribute to Jerry; It all makes me happy!! Peace.
you know, it's all in the mind of the beholder, i think
if you hear bobby sing mission in the rain and you are grateful to hear someone sing such a great song with passion and power - and you let yourself get off on it - that's an inner choice
if you hear bobby sing mission in the rain and all that happens in your mind are thoughts like 'we the hell do they let him sing this, it is ruining it for me' - well, that's an inner choice too, but it says more about the person reacting this way than it does about the song itself
I dunno, maybe it's me, but Furthur's just let me down twice in one week. I want Phil and Friends back. Furthur just plays standard cover-band versions of their own songs. At least they used to try to stretch and explore with P&F. This is so mainstreamed now, it's boring. My .02
> I want Phil and Friends back.
Actually, I'm with you there. Furthur, despite their name, is actually aiming for near resurrection of how the Grateful Dead performed songs
Phil and Friends added another layer on top of the Grateful Dead legacy, by doing stuff new or adding interesting variation
For example, the Stella Blue at one of the Nokia shows was amazing - no vocals and no guitar - Larry Campbell played steel guitar - that was an incredible version because it really made you focus on Jerry - in a much more meaningful way that thinking about Jerry occurs at a Furthur show
Loved every minute of it !!
Don,Grubby, the beauty of this site is that we can all express our opinions. I liked what Phil and Friends did as well but I also find what Furthur is doing is different than the Grateful Dead and not just a reconstruction. They are taking songs that the Dead left in moth balls and doing some neat things. At Masfield they did a great job with Hard to Handle, jammed at the end of Doin that Rag, which I have never heard (over 300 GD shows), and put some great Miles Davis twists into King Solomons Marbles. I thinnk you have to move away from Jerry, miss him sure but take everything for what it is worth.
> Don,Grubby, the beauty of this site is that we can all express our opinions.
As well as expressing the opinions of others - I agree totally with everything you wrote there butze
and frankly, I think the name FURTHUR is specifically about moving on
This music is going to live on after phil and bobby are gone - and what phil is doing now is showing people how the music can still be milked for something new ...
just curious...grbby corleone butze...how many times did you see the grateful dead and when
> just curious...grbby corleone butze...how many times did you see the grateful dead and when
about 40 times between 1974 and 1983, then just once in 1993
ess, about 300 times between 1969 and 1995.
> Ugh!!! Why can't they let JK sing this song?
