Back on the couch with like-minded folk for tonight's show up the road from PHIL-ly. Thank you to Furthur and all the sisters and brothers for a peaceful night at The Mann. What a long strange trip it's been, indeed!

Posted at 11;06 I started at 11;11 now 30 min. in Eyes is fine, this bands harmonies are so sweet Fresh and tasty! actually 8;06 and 8;11 my time!
went tonite and Cumberland was so sick.
my backyard. thanks guys for playing here. home very early for a change. sweet good to see all my friends there. love to all and safe trip home.
grateful to you taperrob (~);}
hey now jolly old self, what planet were you on with that review? Just listened to the Chain which indeed was blistering, thanks TaperROB! Off the chain with that chain and the We Love you was equally as powerful...cant wait for the boys to come out west. Peace.
..there comes a redeemer...
Just back from show. I waffled until 45m before the show whether to go after that tepid performance a week ago at Jones Beach.
So happy that I went. Perhaps Jones Beach was an off night. Tonight was very solid. Set 1 highlight was a ripping Cumberland. The rest was well played. Alabama a bit tentative but fun.
Set 2
Solid all the way through. Thanks boys!
The PNC 11pm curfew killed the show early. I was up close and it seemed like they were going to play something after TStones - like an old school Lovelite segue - but they called an end to the set due to time. Nice problem to have = jammed too much to play all the songs from the setlist. Seems like the Terrapin could have stretched out even further if setlist and time were not considerations. So it goes.....
^^^jones beach 'off night'...huh? long jammy darkstars not your cup of meat/
guessin you didn't like the jack a roe either
I was at Jones Beach last Sunday and of course, the inceptive Jack-A-Roe was amazing as well as the Dark Star however...
Tonight's show was, musically, in much finer form. I think that is undeniable. John was playing without restraint tonight.
Longer first set then usual.
Great crowd response upon the beginning of the second set.
Possibly the strongest Eyes I've heard from Furthur. Felt special to listen to Phil sing this tonight, great communication with Jeff. John's first pass through the solo section was incredible.
Watchtower was placed and played perfectly.
Terrapin... beautiful.
First time hearing Touch of Grey live and I enjoyed it... even the trading of lines between Bobby and John; they pulled it off. JK's solo was similar to one of his on a particular 2007 DSO version of Touch of Grey that I've listened to endlessly... that was interesting and very cool to hear.
snuck into vip from 104 z sat close to center. here comes sunshine as sun set on the audience and went away set the tone for this amamzing first set .other than asheas and glass set list was all old school. 2nd set set had great depth and was very meaningful. northeast special , go new jersey
Thought they were on, definitely. Phil even mentioned the "Jersey energy" and seemed moved by the audience.

A special "Philzone" version (he's cranked). Phil & Jeff take a great break after 1st verse.
Rob......no I wasn't there. Went to see Francis Black in nyc instead.
Terrapin and Eyes!! wow, can't wait to hear this.
Looks like the setlist had to be altered quite a bit...
...
...
...
Damn.
I didn't listen to the Watchtower because I don't care for Watchtower, but the Cumberland & Eyes are both excellent.
Really, really good.
I like this band.
Big league players at every position, and a couple of Hall-Of-Famers.
Good stuff for 2011.
Keep it coming boys!
What was the attendance estimate?
Random thoughts from a first-time poster, long-time Dead fan but first time Furthur attendee - besides the crazy Cumberland, highlight for me was Wheel opening the 2nd set... cool moment before the start of the song when the camera held on Bobby which provoked a huge cheer from the crowd, he then looked back and realized, and the cheers got louder, camera stayed on him.. he then took a little bow. Phil had an extended solo after first verse of Eyes that I have to hear again (glad I bought the CD after the show). Terrapin blew me away even though I'm not a big fan of that song/suite, drums were played (by Trey's twin :-)with machine gun precision. Touch of Grey is a song that hasn't aged well for me, but the refrain is always fun. JK seems to glow with the energy from the crowd, he is a perfect fit for this band and exudes humble coolness. I thought Jeff was too low in the mix, couldn't hear some of his part of the solo trade-offs with JK very well in 1st set. Anyway, after living 8 years in Switzerland, one of the joys of being back is to see these guys. Keep on rollin'!
Hard to estimate attendance, JP, but I would say seats were 90% full and lawn was 50-60% as there was alot of space at the edges. Not sure what capacity is there. Crowd was loud and lots of dancing, smoking, etc...
This was my favorite show of my mini 4 show run. My alternator died en route to The Mann (went in and sweated pounds in the heat) and required that I spend all day Sunday waiting to get the car fixed in Philly. After they fixed it, I made a bee line to PNC. Met up w/ my friends, went in, and maybe because I was so relived and excited, the show seemed extraordinary. We all have things going on in our lives which might make a good show average (like my car problems in Philly) or a good show to become awesome. Thanks for a grate time Furthur!
I thought this show was tremendously well-played. The band seemed energetic and engaged throughout most of the show. The first set was particularly stong. HCS was a nice opener and JStraw really ripped at the end when JK came in and finished off the climatic jam that had previously been expertly constructed by Jeff. I thought both JK and Chimenti were 'on' and they play off each other so nicely. It kind of reminds me of Jerry's and Brent's interactions in 89-90. Ashes and Glass is an interesting song and had nice spacey jam tucked in there. Tennessee Jed got the whole place rockin' and singin'. Every one has commented on the Cumberland; it was a monster. Alabama was oddly placed, but decently played. I am not sure if I like the slower tempo Stranger. It had a nice jam, but it doesn'y fly like the song used to.
The Wheel was great, well-jammed and vocals sounded really nice. Samson rocked; Eyes was nicely explored. The highlight of the show for me was the Terrapin Suite. Man, was the band on. They explored every nook and cranny of each the song's several movements. Russo just killed it on 'At a Siding.' After Terrapin, the show sorted of peetered out a little. UBC was good and solidly jammed. We Love You was really were the show went downhill. Its a nice song and they do interesting version, but there are SO many other songs that I would rather hear late in the second set. Bobby tried to shift the show back into high gear with TStones, and he almost succeeded. However, it felt a bit rushed. It seemed obvious to me that the band was aware of the time pressure and was trying to get as many tunes in as possible before the curfew.
This brings to me to a suggestion. I think the band should consider foregoing setlists. It did seem at the end that they were trying to get to everything on the list. I think that mentality definitely affected each songs after Terrapin. Absent the list, I think the jams would be even longer and more free-flowing then they were last night. Now, that's not to say that there weren't great jams last night -- there were.
In any event, it seemed like the crowd enjoyed the band immensely and that the band enjoyed the crowd. There was a nice little moment before the start of the second set when a close up of Bobby appeared on the video screens. The crowd gave him a long and loud cheer (as if we were thanking him for 46 years of music), which was returned with a bashful smile from Weir and many thanks. It was an enjoyable evening all around.
As far as attendance, PNC holds 7,500 seated under the pavilion and 10,000 on the lawn. I was on the lawn for the first set and in pavilion for the second set. The pavilion had approximately 300-500 empty seats, and I would estimate that the lawn was between 2/3 and 3/4 filled. So there were probably 13,000-14,000 there last night.
^^^jones beach 'off night'...huh? long jammy darkstars not your cup of meat/
guessin you didn't like the jack a roe either"
I liked the WRS, Dark Star and Unbroken Chain from JB. The rest fell flat for me even though I loved the setlist on paper. Guess I will have to listen to that Jack-a-Roe again since it did not seem particularly inspired at the time but others seemed to have really responded to it.
Just the finest ensemble on the planet. And the scene once again is tame and friendly, and a drunk guy can even stumble around.
Lord, could this be heaven?
Was at Bethel, Jones Beach, Mansfield, Philly, and PNC... this was the best overall show of the tour by far (though bethel set 2 rocked) Really enjoyed myself after way too much heat in Philly! Awesome crowd lots of energy, which seemed like it fueled the guys (helps that it was 20 degrees cooler) Really redeemed a few shows that were "good but not great" in my opinion. I don't agree with those who say Jones Beach was an off night--but compare the energy from that night or Philly to PNC and there is no contest.
but you weren't at the spac
But I was.
I did SPAC, Mansfield, Vibes (and stayed for Sat nite as well) and then onto PNC. PNC was, by far, my fave. I was chasing that Eyes FOR-EVER ;-)
SPAC had it's moments, but never took off for me. Comcast/Great Woods was better. Vibes better than that, although IMO they were close. My fave? PNC. I even bought the shirt :-)
I've since changed my mind.
In order of my faves...
PNC. Then Great Woods. Then Vibes. Then SPAC.
FWIW.
Loved it *all*, though, thanks!
hey andrea! glad you enjoyed your tour - was thinking about you at the great woods show...
I absolutely loved jones beach but a whole lot of people were leaving early round me .Don't know how you say "that's it I'm outta here " as they start unbroken chain.Music like that second set is why I go to shows.
