Nice. Can't wait for the archives for both north and south carolina.
Yeah!
...
This is a phenomenal looking list. Opposite of last night the chord exchanges and complexity is seen in the list. I'm no pro but those songs are not no brainer songs. They require inspiration and stamina and legitimate interest.
What a hot show and great venue.
I wish I was there!
How was the ll rain? Did John Jann it out?
you're days too late Maggie.
That 2nd set looks incredible!!
the place looks silly
I wanna hear a LLR...bad.
Looks like fantastic times in the dirty south, one of few times I wish I was there.;)
Damn.... Tiffy!!! I wish I was there with you, Pete, canyon, Rob, puff, who ever else!! Look like amazing...
THANK YOU FURTHUR!
just in from the show. what a fun time we had tonight! of the three furthur shows i caught on this tour, this one was my favorite. (others PNC, Vibes). highlights: box of rain, eyes of the world, perfect flat grassy dancing spot up close - phil sounded terrific all night. great energy from the band in both sets and for most of the songs. it was amazing how much they rocked it in such intense heat.
lowlights: venue running out of water at the beginning of the second set. WTF?? it was like 110 degrees in there and no water. and the 3 hr drive home dodging deer and cops. my nerves are shot.
but way more highlights than lowlights. musically very special. all in all well worth the trip.
Oh, that was fun fun FUN!!!
Mermaid, sorry we didn't see you but DAMN I'm glad you were there :-)))
The floor was a zoo. Nonetheless, fifth row center was a superb vantage point for an excellent shoe.
(((MAIL ORDER)))
On to Memphis...Dylan tonite 8-)
Holy Fantasy Setlists, Batman! Last night they played the songs I was praying for at CMAC. Alas, the railroad tribute for Brent prevailed. After all, Death Don't Have No Mercy
The show on paper was very good but doesn't do justice to how well the band played. Every song was high energy and flawlessly executed. Great passion, esp by our elder statesmen! Next up for me....The ATL.
that looks like a killer second set
I'm in agreement here. Good energy all around from the band despite the fucking blistering heat. Even the night time didn't cool down much and the breeze was often just hot air stirred around. Musically very tight and the sound was really good, at least in the seats. I don't know how it went out to the grass. Nice little venue, but I think I'll hold out for spring or fall dates next time if this is the stop.
The Attics was simply wonderful, nearly perfect. I got a few "new" tunes tonight for my personal experience from them. I was very pleased with the trip. Best of all I got to sleep in my own bed.
If anybody knows the guy who was making and selling the ACC logo steal your face t-shirts I'd appreciate knowing how to reach him. I never got to go back to buy mine.
{{{Pauly}}} My favorite crew...
Glad they raged the Carolinas, and sad I couldn't be there...is it time for Monterey yet???;)
"Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get" - Forrest Gump
Man what a show. Too hot to handle our middle floor seats about 8 rows back in the 1st set, availed ourselves of the nearly perfect golf course quality grass that was everywhere and tried to stay cool 1st set.
Second set, matriculated down to the zoo of a floor, whoa nellie! Just when I think the spell has worn off and the thrill is gone for me with these guys, they go and do something like this show. Back on the bus. Big time.
The screen is phenomenal. Truly. The rest I can't adequately put into words. So I won't try. Eagerly awaiting this show's arrival at etree, LOVE YOU TAPER PEOPLE!
Bummer about the water y'all, we came in with at least one small bottle per person and a gallon. Drank ALL of it.
This looks like a killer set two.
How was the Days Between - I think if I had been there, the Days would have been a let-down, but you never know.
the days between definitely lost some people in my little dancy area. but for me it was a welcome break in an otherwise smoking fucking hot set. i like days between, thought it was sweet and lovely, but i understand it's not for everyone. if jk would sing it, maybe it would be sweeter. bobby does that weird timing thing with the lyrics. so the lowpoint of the second set might've been days between, but everything else more than made up for it.
funny random observation about this simpsonville show: it really felt like a south carolina event. couples everywhere were shagging to candyman. LOL! i'm from SC so this was a very cool home-state show for me.
i'm so high from my time with furthur the past week. reminded me of why i prioritize this music and these shows.
Musically Days was brilliant, but vocally it was offsetting. seems like Bobby remembers the words just a split second too late and it is very awkward.
still, the only bummer of the night. great second set.
The Days Between was exquisite. Beautifully played, and Bob told it with appropriate pain and passion. And it was sequenced wonderfully just before Scarlett.
>>Mermaid, sorry we didn't see you but DAMN I'm glad you were there :-)))
delia, sorry we missed you too - but so so glad you were there and in raleigh. have fun at dylan
After a somewhat disappointing weekend for me at Northwest String Summit last weekend, it was hard to get super pumped going into these shows (tons of driving, late summer burn out, etc.). Though it goes without saying that I always feel grateful when I catch Phil or Bob - we could only be so lucky. I had to skip Raleigh, and of course they played Gloria, which I haven't seen either of them do in over a decade, and jumped on at Simpsonville, SC.
7/29/11 • Charter Amphitheatre; Simpsonville, SC
Set 1: Music Never Stopped, Brown Eyed Women, Looks Like Rain, Dupree's Diamond Blues, Candyman, Me & My Uncle > Maggie's Farm, Revolution
Set 2: Box of Rain, Dear Mr Fantasy, Estimated Prophet > Eyes of the World, St. Stephen > Eleven, King Solomon's Marbles, Days Between, Scarlet > Fire
Encore: Donor Rap, Attics of My Life
The Charter Amphitheatre is fairly new and is an uncovered shed outside Greenville. The grass in the lawn in nicely manicured and soft. I spent most of my time 5th row Center. The folks in charge were not ready for us and gave up on any semblance of order or rule soon after the second set started. The opening sequence of Set 1 (Music, BEW, LLR) and Set 2 closer (Scarlet Fire) were my highlights of the show. Box second set opener was great of course, and Scarlet->Fire was hot, hot, hot. Days was not as powerful as recent renditions I've heard. Phil's monitors were messed up during Attics, and he threw a temper tantrum, taking away from the moment (not the first time I've seen the exact same thing happen during the exact same song...). Overall, good setlist, good playing, nothing mind blowing.
if anyone has a recording of this can they put it on archives. i would love to hear it again. it was a wonderful time i will never forget!!! SIMPSONVILLE ROCKS!!! NO DOUBT BEST OF TOUR!!!
