Looking forward to Autumn shows in northern New England! Think they've been practicing or resting? We'll find out in 72 hours!
Not jumpin' on this tour until MSG, but feeling the excitement. I'd say these guys are playin' as good as they get.
Manchester...my old hometown where I grew up. Now living in Ohio and will be at the Columbus show. Any old friends out there? I used to play in a local dead band called Lichen in the late 80s... I think that John Zevos, Diane and Charlie are still jamming and are indeed worth checking out!
Hey Dave - I saw Lichen a bunch of times back in the day. LaCantina & the Casbah. Big fun every night! You must remember me - I was the one in tie dye ;-). I'll be at the Verizon tomorrow night. These guys are definately the real deal. I hope you're still out there playing.
Long time ago I took lessons from John Zevos, quit playing, will pick it up again when I retire. Looking forward to the show. Lichen was great.
Knew Lichen well years ago! Took lessons from John. Lichen played at our wedding in 1996!!!
After being at Jerry's last show in Chicago in 95, I only caught a few more live shows in the couple of years following until I went to Furthur this summer in Raleigh NC. I love this band! After all the years (1st show in 82) I'm still hoping for a St. Stephen. Maybe in Columbus two weeks from today.... It has been a blast reconnecting. Especially thinking of my old friends. I'll be checking it out here in the phil zone starting tomorrow! Enjoy and be safe everyone.

just heard Phil and John swapped places....
Twitter picture of the soundcheck shows jk on the left side of stage near Jeff C and Phil over on the right...sunshine also over on the left (looking at the stage). Have they had this different set up before? Is it so Jk and Jc can play off each other? Shakedown opener? Or will there be a cold rain and snow to commemorate the big storm that knocked out all the power? So psyched....can't believe the boys are down on elm street...something that wasn't conceivable back when I lived just a a few miles from where the venue is located. Rock the old homestead, guys and I'll see you in a few weeks!
u know its gonna get stranger...somethings u just know....
hope to see u dan...will be on the floor
squeaks!!!!!!!!!!!!
Greetings and salutations all from Phil-ly; back on the bus now...
I don't want to hear St. Stephen in columbus. I've heard that stupid song so much since Jerry died that I have grown to hate it.

playin sandwich, see you all in wilkes barre
thank you all goodnight
the good setlist maker showed up
See you freaks in Columbus. It is a college venue where OSU plays Hockey and Basketball but the arena will not be dry during the show, I asked if beer will be sold when bought my tix at box office.
Time for a lobster roll...wish I was in New England
>>>>will not be dry during the show, I asked if beer will be sold when bought my tix at box offic
Not that I don't like beer, but is it ever dry @ a Dead Related show?
And there are much better things than beer IMHO.
How much do you spill dancing your ass off? Me, a ton!
Yes in fact the Mullins center in Amherst will be dry and Univ of Deleware was dry when I saw them last year. I guess you are content with muddy water but I prefer a cold beer when I am at the show.
Yay for manch vegas... well done.
Feel free to leave a review...
they never do, Earl
Heavy duty!!! Show smoked!!!!
Quick review: First set had a interesting mix of songs. They came out of the gate quick with Playing into CRS (which was to be expected) both well played. Pride was good with the middle blues type jam. Catfish John was fun to hear but was not that well played, but on onpening night what do you expect. Rest of the set was good but could have used a bit more punch. I was on the side and felt that the sound mix for the first set needed some improvement and obviously the band did as well and was evident with Shakedown and the entire second set. I felt the energy level through most of the second set was much higher and the playing alot tighter with some tasty jams in Shakedown, Jack Straw (chills at one point), and Weather Report. King Solomons is becoming a favorite as it has that Miles Davis feel to it at times and you can tell they continue to work it. The rest of the song selection was strong and fit the feel for an opening night, playing old favorites (for me) that they certianly played well. At one point and cannot quite remember a nice Lazy Lightning was thrown in. Good show, and always fun to see folks.
great show! security very lax and due to many unsold tix and floor-crashers the seats were very sparsely filled leaving plenty of room to boogie. fun buzz pre-show about phil moving to stage left (would love to hear his reason for this). catfish john pleasant first set surprise and very nice lazy river road with all trading vocals. bertha->good lovin' great fun ending the set. second set got a hammering start with shakedown->jack straw with phil bombs dropping all over the place! rest of song selection was fun - felt like a terrapin was gonna come but never did. gimme some lovin' was a very fast and odd tempo (frankly, rushed), but a steady ujb and predictable playing reprise was ample conclusion. and imho, they could encore ripple every show and i wouldnt complain!
both reviews above reflects my experience, songs, playing and sound-wise. Very pleasant surprise to hear rested voices from Phil and Bobby. (Saw the last 2 shows in Monterey and would describe them as "ragged Excellence"; music was wonderful but you could hear the wear and tear on both Phil and Bobby's voices.)
Also want to point out that the transitions were really delightful in that they were not sloppy, with noticable attention being paid by the band. And, instead of raging into the next song they would often bring it all down to a single note transition and they were able to pull it off musically. Yay for the band's listening abilities.
If there was anything to "complain" about (the following is a personal opinion) I could do with less volume whenever Bobby plays slide...
Well worth seeing this particular band these days.
Enjoy all.
Thanks, pholks.
I'm still buzzin' from the smooth transitions I saw in St. Augustine last Summer.
thanks for the setlists and updates
awesome freaking show!!!!
I am loving reading the reviews of these opening shows!!! I made it to Manchester, Portland, and Amherst and had a blast at all 3. Manchester hit it!!! I haven't heard Phil drop them like that in quite a while and can't tell you what a highlight that was for me..... executed extremely well. Fairly fast tight show. Loved it... Phil's voice sounded so sweet too. It really shows that this band is maturing together allowing each other the space they need to come together, be apart and merge with us! It seems Phil's new position ... old position? is working well.. I just switched sides
I also really enjoyed the setlist!
Black Peter was AWESOME at this show! !
Huge Supplication jam coming out of The Wheel, not noted in the setlist
