Monster show!!!
just got home.....awesum show
just made the pleasant drive home - WHAT A SHOW - monster out of the gate - full review tomorrow - gonna' have a cocktail and chil for now - listened to a little bit on the way home, as good as the moment...
good nite for now.
Just got home. Very good show. Second set smoked, first was kinda mellow. Highlights for me were Eyes, Viola, and Franklins. These were played really well with great sound and yes, I think JK is turned up a bit more now. Inbetween v2 and v3 on Viola it just got sick and crazy...fn awesome! Will give full review tomorrow. Good night and Thanks Furthur!!!
Looks like a great setlist and they didn't play One More Saturday Night!!
They did play OMSN (to start the 2nd set). 1st set was OK...2nd set was a lot of fun.
first set was OK???....were you at the same show I was??? thanks Furthur for a memorable night!!!
>>>Inbetween v2 and v3 on Viola it just got sick and crazy...fn awesome!
yes it was
also, i got a phil bomb which rattled my chest, i don't remember which song in the second set but it felt like it went through me.
Dear Prudence was gorgeous. Finally got our Althea. Satisfying show all around. Casino treated us well too.
thanks for keeping us updated, looks like another killer show !
highlights:
The setlist - solid all the way through.
song placement OMSN to open the 2nd, Fire without a Scarlet, Mean Mr. Mustard 1st set AND Dear Prudence 2nd.
The crowd's energy all the way through the show.
Phil's solo and bombs in Slipknot were very powerful.
Bobby's solo in Knockin' - made up for his lyrical flub.
Segues were all real tight.
Well well well - Hell right out of the box - tight, up tempo, Bobby in FULL voice letting it rip>(hard right turn '74 - '77 style, a trend that would be evidenced most of the night)>1/2 Step that was well sung and well jammed>Big Bad Blues - it was one of the slow spots for me, adequate new tune but not my fave. STOP. Althea - JK turned it out and that place was getting HOT - audience sing along and high energy. JK stepped up last night and those who have been saying Bobby's holding him back should have a listen to this show. Big River was again, well played and the vocal outro was spot on and spun straight into Mean Mr Mustard with Phil a groovin' away on vocals. That blew straight into MNS and that was a highlight for me. The Casey Jones was unbelievably HOT - JK tore it up and they took it into cosmic vista overdrive building faster and faster - they must have gone around 5 or 6 times it was just cooking double secret overtime until they brought us home.
Second Set: OMSN - yeah well, of course, thanks for getting that fucker outta; the way but much to my chagrine, it smoked and the folks up there kept up one of the two main trends of the night - going faster, um Furthur. The Weight - a great throwback old school take - nice and mellow and audience singing along (chills thinking about it now) into > Estimated - a super jammed roiling take, i am almost, after all these years used to Bobby's extra measures in the verse - and JK took it higher and higher jam out was soupy and trippy and inched itself into > EYES - nice developed jam into the song and a floaty and breezy take that hit on all cylinders into> (abrupt turn) Fire - funky and groovy. Then VIola Lee !! MASSIVE phil bomb to open it and a straight thru take no sammich here - the jam between V1 and V2 was hot, the jam between V2 and V3 was sick and built up to a hyper overdrive screaming finish. Dear Prudence was sweet and the back up singers were helping out beautifully. Help>slip>franklins - nice twists on the Help > slip> JK's lead after ".....listen to the music play" was fucking hot and screaming - although i could have doen with out my umpteenth H>S>F especially since i got one in Reading last Fall and Bethel but i'll take what i get and enjoy it with a smile - i'd rather be lamenting that song sequence than wishing to hear the songs at all.....
Knockin' well, i guess we started with a late 80's opener so....had may heading for the doors as if it were an "i Fought the song" encore but Bobby took it out sweetly, directing the band to drop out and cueing in the singers to gently ease us out into the night (or the humungous CD line) - All in all very tight, very focused, smoking show - oh, slome where in the middle of it all i thought i heard a few Loose Lucy snippets - some where around the Mean Mr Mustard - i'll have to listen for that next go around -
Get the show if you're so inclined.
Thanks Further - for a real good time.
awesome review mike...thanks
An Addendum: Jeff was on fire all night and Phil's lines were powerful the BOMBS not withstanding.....and i have to reiterate - NO ONE'S "holding JK back" - listen for your self and decide
This setlist is sick.I wish I was there.Further hit the nail on the head.Glad JK was turned up.
Kept thinking they were gonna go into Dear Mr. Fantasy after Viola, the one scale they lead up sounds like it.
First, my advice to anyone going to this venue: Do not get GA floor tickets, sound is WAY better (I don¡¦t mean a little¡K WAYYYY better) in the sec 100 and 200¡¦s
So, First set (from which I was on the floor amidst not too great sound) was solid, mellow. I consider it the ¡§re-arranged¡¨ set. A lot of the tunes either had some sort of a re-arrangement somewhere in them or were out right different (Big River esp). Bucket was good with up tempo. Half Step same, and the vocals were that re-arrangement thing they do now, even more drawn out than I recall, very good. . I really like Big Bad Blues and that had a lot of people on the floor moving along in dance/walk mode, really fun. JK smoked the lead on Althea twice, super tasty. Now, for this head who also likes Blue Grass, the bluesy Big River just doesn¡¦t work (One man¡¦s opinion, that¡¦s all). The combination of over 30 years hearing it in the trad manner, and really really liking that type of music, just makes what they¡¦re doing with it now not much fun. Oh well. Mean Mr Mustard was fun, and Phil did well on the vocals. My buddy thought he saw Phil looking at JK and JK pushing him off, which led him to conclude they were going to go into Polythene Pam, but decided not. There was some sort of longish, funk thing before they got to Music Never Stopped, and that could be taken to substantiate the premise, but don¡¦t know. Good Music Never Stopped, a bit mellow. Then bam, KC Jones, and man did they push it over the top, faster and faster, many times, place was goin crazy. And they ended it so well, long drawn out , ¡§And ya know that notion¡K¡¨ at the end, I think 3x.
It was during that song that I went upstairs to beat the crowd up the only set of stairs that led to floor, and when I heard the sound from the 100 level it was like I was at a totally different show. Way way way better!
More than not, this is a 2nd set band for me, and the night proved to be the same. With OMSN (played well for sure) and then a nice sing along on The Weight out of the way, they really got to work. Estimated Eyes was excellent, Jeff does that funked out keys thing on the first lead during Eyes, then JK just lays it out for all the twirling dancers for sure. That¡¦s the point where I was finally sweating and out of breathe. Fire was good, then KABAM!!! That first crunch of a chord for Viola, and we knew we were in for some sick shit, and they did not disappoint. Between v1 and v2 was great, but man o man, between v2 and v3 they got twisted and it was sooo much fun shakin my ass to that shit. I almost didn¡¦t make it to the ¡§other side¡¨ and fell against the wall for a few secs when they finally got there sceaming, ¡§I wrote a letter, mailed it indee!!!¡K¡¨ Fun fun fun. Caught my breathe to a beautiful Dear Prudence, and they executed a solid Help Slip Frank. There was a great point right before the last crescendo in slip that was twisted again, and we loved it. Knockin was pretty, and Bobby took it almost all over, doing the main guitar lead. Show ended a few minutes early I think, about 10:50 or so, which this ol fart likes, me and my buds call it ¡§civilized time.¡¨
I give the show a 9 overall, set 2 a solid 10. It¡¦s a good venue. Although they are used to a mosh scene (as evidenced by the way the GA works and the ¡§No Moshing, Stage Diving¡¨ signs all over) they understand us. Provided a nice lot scene with a good shakedown, and were totally cool about open containers. You pretty much can dance anywhere, but it wasn¡¦t sold out, so if it were more crowded maybe they wouldn¡¦t have been so lax. Concessions were pretty good too. I had a fn huge chocolate ice cream in a cup for only $3.50, could barely finish it. Sorry, no idea about beer prices (I¡¦m a wharf rat ƒº) Peace All and please be good family. Thank You Furthur!!!
Someone mentioned a loose lucy tease - I believe that was the beginning of Mean Mr. Mustard.
Definitely some communication between Phil and John at the end of Mustard - It's not on the paper setlist on their website, but it just seemed like they wanted to do Polythene Pam.
