Hey now phriends! Smokin' show in NYC last evening for sure. Visions of spinners dancing in my head. On the couch! And now...we have 11-11-11! A cosmic confluence, fly high astral planes - and The Eleven? Seems a certainty as we go furthur and furthur and still furthur. Enjoy the show!

as with Woodstock The dead are notorious at not doing what you think.I know 11-11-11 and all.Gotta be an eleven and Im with you .These guys are tricksters.Theyve been at it all their lives and they are good at what they do. Once again they roll the dice. Im going to let things happen I need a ticket and a ride but we are close.

Hey Redial...I would often call out for the "Seven"at Max Creek shows and bassist John Rider would always laugh...never got it from them, but heard it on a few tapes.

Syracuse is where it all started for me...Carrier Dome 9/24/82. The bus came by and I got on...that's where it all began. By the time Aiko had emerged out of space that night I was hooked....line and sinker.

McGrath, missed that Carrier Dome show on account the heat came 'round and busted me for smiling on a cloudy day. Did catch the show the following year when the Band opened. Carrier dome was a great place to end the tour on a Sat. so us heads could come from far and wide.
Have a good show tonight. Who's going to Atlantic City?

I am "seeing" this tour from the comfort of my dining room table, with the Australian Open (golf) on cable tv and Furthur blasting from my laptop speakers. I could go to AC tomorrow night but have opted out. I've had 8 shows within 15 minutes of my house (Mann Center & Tower Theatre) during 2010/2011 so have been there. It's all good. Nowadays you can sit home and enjoy the show from the comfort of your computer speakers - amazing n'est ce pas?

just got in(I live pretty dang close!)

Missed a good deal of the 1st set as I was still on duty at the hospital until 1930, Found a spot on the rail on Phils side and planted myself there, great angles on everyone. 1st set closed up really well. Dont know if I've seen anyone do Revoulution in quite some time, so that was nice...

everyone was looking for the CR&S but I was looking for WRS and was quite pleased. The background vocalists overpowered Bobby quite a bit, but it all came together for a pretty hot Let it Grow. I was looking for PITB to go pretty deep but it didnt, steering directly into I Want You after a short jam. Dark Star was decent enough, King Solomon was a treat. Sugaree, well I love the tune, and I know im a minority here but Its just one of the ones I need Jer's voice on... well played nonetheless...GDTRFB was fun and the place was rockin. The encores will speak for themselves, glad I was there for it

Sound was a bit thin in spots(esp Bobs vocals) and I have noted that EVERY incarnation post-Jerry has always seemed "choppy" to me. but it was fun and Id go again but they have to come to me these days

I close friend was texting me the setlists and was quite bummed that Bob sang Loser AND Sugaree!

He blew the lyrics on Loser. JK has never blown them, and he does a great job singing Jerry's tunes.

I am getting tired of Bob blowing lyrics and singing to many Jerry songs.

I was at Red Rocks and Bobby's lyric blowing is really a downer.

I have tickets for St Louis and New Years and if this continues, I will sell them.

This show was inspiring... Great Veterans Day show. I would like to write a detailed review. For now, I must say the band has learned to navigate jams in a much more refined way...

For example, I thought tonight's Dark Star was particularly great. There was one abrupt transition in which Phil and Joe laughed together. Besides that, I've never heard them go that deep without loosing their way before...

I feel the change in stage blocking has helped on stage communication... it was evident tonight.

To note one criticism... as mentioned above, yes... Bobby took Loser. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little disappointed when JK didn't step to the mic. It's not that I am impartial to Bobby taking the lead vocals on any Garcia song, it's just that he seems to have this thing with songs from the the 1972 "Garcia" solo album: Loser, Sugaree, Birdsong... he extends the ends of the verse by a few measures for reasons I am unsure of. IMHO, it doesn't contribute to the arrangement in any kind of unique way; it just confuses it. Literally, there was one moment in Loser when he had to make a quick hand gesture to remind everyone of the extended pause.

Besides this... tonight showed that JK is coming into his own and is undoubtedly more confident.

And how cool was The Star Spangled Banner that blasted out of the sound system to end the night.

I just got in from 2 days of travel and delight. MSG, and Syracuse. Back to Albany to rest my bones. I'm not one to write detailed reviews but will write some toughts tomorrow. For now I'll say the show at the garden MSG was better than the set list looked on paper and having Larry C and wife on hand only ehnhanced everything that happend.

Tonight? what can I say, This is the season of what, and found myself infront of Phil about 10 rows from the stage. IT is alive and well "IT" is beyond my wildest dreams. High energy crowd powered these players to unreal musical showmanship. Phil JK and Russo are the happiest players I've ever seen. They played their hearts out. One example was the Dark Star; It's never been and never will be played this way again. I really can't explain this, but may try tomorrow. It is pillow time now. I would like to say a big Thank You to the bunch of happy dancing beatiful blondes (1 brunette) ladies that made me feel young again. One or 2 of them were very kind to grab me softly and danced and just felt the vibe with me during a few songs one being Sugaree. Very pretty ladies and sometimes the unspoken word is the best way to go, especially whean Furtur is belting out tones. If I ever see any of these lovely ladies again; I'll be sure to muster the courage to strike a conversation. Dancing smiling, a bit of nice swaying and a qick back rub did my heart good and it all made me feel good and welcome. Just an unreal show. Seeing JK and Phil dancing really did it fo me. I'll try a review tomorrow. Thanks again ladies in the isle just up in front of Phil, for making an older DH happy welcome and warm insie. Perhaps we can meet again at the Albany Show? I'll be there, will you? You made a guy very happy, expecially the one with the Brown Shirt on
Peace, Hoff

I think Mr. Morgan would have dug this show! I'm guessing the energy during the encores must have been major league!!

"He blew the lyrics on Loser. JK has never blown them, and he does a great job singing Jerry's tunes."

I'm in complete agreement with most people on the Bob takes Jerry tunes thought. I'd prefer JK on most all of them, but just for the record, JK did blow a verse in Loser in Asheville a couple years back. He had this painful grimace on his face too like it really upset him.

Looks like a great show. Hope everybody had a blast. Hoping my work takes me to Albany on Tuesday. Otherwise I'll have to "settle" for Phil at the Xmas Jam in December.

Good stuff, sounds like a fun show. For those of you who complain about Bobby's blown lyrics........he, as well as other band members have been blowing lyrics, verses, etc for over 40 years. Nothing new.

I dont mind the "blown" lyrics, I just thought Bobby sounded thin in the mix and was really overpowered by the studio-sounding background vocalists

thx for that LMA link

"Tonight? what can I say, This is the season of what.... High energy crowd powered these players to unreal musical showmanship"

sounded like that on the 1st set stream, and Loser had the biggest crowd reaction of them all, Revolution being a big sing along

> was really overpowered by the studio-sounding background vocalists

not necessarily a bad thing

One thing I realized this tour is this: phil and bobby's voices are both pretty good at the start of a tour - I saw manchester and portland - and their vocals were good

most other shows I've seen have been in the middle of end of tours - and then it's really hit or miss

Ok, to the music. They are playing at differerent time signatures, at speeds, making changes, on top of and under each other during many of the jams. I spoke to my kids 18 & 20 plus some of their friends many are blossoming players about this and they all were smiling and getting a chuckle, 18 year old says "Dad.... they're playing Math Music"....? ok??? WTF is Math Music?? a few of them explained it, pretty much what I said above regarding the time sigs, changes, speeds and so on...Just a note from the for what it's worth department. The youngens seemed to know what they were talking about it...

There were many highlights last night, Ist set Alligator and Last Time rocked and fit well together and some jams thrown in too. I agree too with the Bobby/Looser issue, but they played it musically beautiful with some real outstanding jams ala early 80's style....Great, oops Reuben & Cerise was excellent as well....Why am I doing this type review. I'm beat after MSG and Syracuse and both shows were waaaay beyond any of my widest expectations. As good as it gets if you ask me. The youth of half the group and years of experience rounds these guys out into the best and most entertaing tour bands you'll ever see in your life. To see most all of them having as much fun as I am just makes it that much better. All the elements are there for me, (including the nostalgia), fun fun fun. I'll be in Albany with my boys and perhaps they can fill me in on this Math music theroy. What ever the case the jams including the into's and out of's are killer, unreal, at times like nothing I've ever heard....and if I may say, I have heard in my getting to be many daze. I'll see you in Albany.
Peace to all. Hoff

CNY loves music of the GD. Great energy feedback for the band. Crowd completely into it. For me, the show positively glowed. Loved the second set out of the gate and storming. From the spanking WRS/ to the sexy, sinewed sultry Sugaree. While I'm generally not enamoured with Beatles/Stones covers I did enjoy the slightly psychedelic JK-driven I want you (she's so heavy). John is definately steering the band more musically and adding his rock stamp. I too would prefer him to do the Garcia songs but obviously Bobby & Phil get first dibs. Fair enough....it's their band. Love Russo's strength and energy. He keeps these old fellas rockin'

Just feel fortunate to still be able to see these guys playing my local area. As Hoffman mentions, its really only about the Fun and to get absorbed in some great songs for a few hours. Nothing else is important & if the small stuff bothers you, (insert your favorite small annoyance here) then stick with the couch tour which I also love for the bulk of Furthur tour. This old fart just appreciates the opportunity to enjoy my favorite musicians!

Hoff,

your kids are definitely right.

This 'math music' is just improvised music... Furthur is getting better at improvising together. I really believe that after last night.

For example,

in the Dark Star, at one point they fell into a nice groove, John and Phil were playing around each other and then Russo started playing a groove in 6/8 at the perfect moment and kept it going... The rest of the band continued to build what they were working over a nice layer of Russo's 6/8 groove.

Chimenti was blasting some beautiful Bill Evans-style lines throughout Weather Report... another moment where one is reminded that Grateful Dead is jazz through a different medium.

Another note! Watching Phil going into King Solomans Marbles was amazing... he lunged forward with a foot stomp in unison with the beginning of Russo's solo...

my review has turned into a bunch of random notes. Anyway, thank you Bill Goldberg for getting your AUD up so fast!

I AM SO JEALOUS OF THIS SHOW! I saw them at MSG this week...and thought nothing could top that!

BEW - Not a thing to be Jealous of. Neither was a better show, just both different (Great) events in this life -Hey, MSG brought me fun fun fun; playing much of what I'm looking for. Larry C was unreal blending in and out. I'm serious though, I laughed, clapped, hooted and wiped the tears from my eyes at both nights shows.

I'm Grateful to have landed here; out of all the space and time that's been going on forever. I, little ol me, land here? get to see JG over 200 times, Brent? all the incarnations of the band since Pig, Brent, then JG left us to meet their reward, now comes this??? Furthur?? Phil? How lucky am I. How lucky are we? Pretty damn fortunate from where I sit.

Vince, thanks for acknowedging my boys guess at what it takes on what and how they're pulling off theses unreal jams; I've been picking up on it (something) for a bit now; I was clueless what they were doing up there. I knew there was a lot more to it. But it makes sence and I love what it all brings me....

Judy Cinn, whats a guy to say; I'm Grateful you picked up on the real theme of why I write. It is all about the fun and community IT brings us. I like you, can't believe folks complain. Sounds like we've been livin the life we Love and Lovin the Life we Live. To carry this Gatitude we seem to, is a priceless thing, a gift we have been given by someone Greater than us. I know I am, and I'm sure you're Grateful too. What I've been bestowed is Grately appreciated.
Peace to all,
Hoff

should be noted that alligator had a very distinctive 'mountain jam' before Last Time.

more so than the mann center alligator>mtn jam(which also included a short but very clear 'mind left body jam' as well, from 7-11-2010, or the mtn jam back with the Q vibes 02...me thinks

the intro to the 'last time' sounded like it could have gone into 'Gloria', like in raleigh, fwiw

also, the only time to these ears that bobby sang 'Loser'...with Furthur.
hilarious how he missed the 'honest man' verse

i like john singing that one but i also was fortunate enought to see John sing the Sugaree back at Barton Hall feb 2010, and it doesn't look like bob will budge on that tune. he is singing it..but there is always hope.

after all, i think this was the first 'shared lyric' version of us blues, prior to this show, bob sang it every time with this band. cool hearing john singing on it
