Tuesday night in Albany, out of the shadows of University Park and all that stuff (did they know?) - great venue from the past and certain to be another epic performance! Kevin Fredette may show again and WE THANK YOU, Kevin!
out of the shadows of University Park?
penn state
For those that didn't know, this Albany show was originally scheduled for University Park, PA on the Penn State campus. It was re-scheduled due to "production" problems (read: poor ticket sales) before the now ongoing sex scandal there.
From the FURTHUR web site:
Due to unforeseen production complications at the Bryce Jordan Center in State College, PA, Furthur's show on Tuesday, November 15 has been canceled. Furthur will be replacing this performance by adding a new show on the same date at the Times-Union Center in Albany, NY. The Times-Union Center has been home to epic shows in the past. Furthur are very excited to be appearing there on November 15.
EPIC SHOWS in the past indeed!!!
Just new to this posting, but not new to the music. A Grateful THANKS for the streams, they were great and as always, no matter the comments on the shows,"The only bad show is a NO show" My statement after Jerry left us. Thanks again
Hopefully the Albany show will live up to the Grateful Dead shows of the past. Althougth I enjoyed "The Dead" show with Warren at Alb.the people around me looked like there was a sleepover with all the drums and noodling. The only other show I have ssen on this tour was Amherst. Hopefully there will not be to many song repeats from there.
Ticketmaster still has seats for sale in the lower level on the sides. It will probably look pretty empty if the upper deck is empty.
27 hours and three minutes and counting.
5 nights in a row I hope they can pull it off
5 nights in a row?
when is the show scheduled to start?
"when is the show scheduled to start?"
Sometime tomorrow??
hahaha "O Shit"
guess I should have looked at the date
Row Jimmy due up... for Dozin'.
Im guessing theyll come out at 8
I hope theres a stream tonight does anyone know if zman or taper rob made it to the show?
I feel stupid ,should have checked the date
I am indeed going tomorrow with phone and batteries in hand!!!!
thank you Kevin!
The show is scheduled to start at 7:00PM and they've been hitting the stage about 10-15 minutes after the scheduled start.
Mr. Charlie in albany
I have been to 7 shows this year, spreads out pretty evenly. Syracuse on 11/11 was smokin hot. I laugh at some of the critical comments I have seen this year. Give me 1 free ticket to any show possible and this is who I am gonna see.
The worst of those 7 shows is still better than 99% of the stuff being played. If Wants to sing Jerry songs, he has certainly earned that right. Phil and Bob doing Jack Straw is brilliant. I always leave getting more than my monies worth. And it isnt a money grab for these guys either. Their prices are very fair and I get a 4 hour show. Nobody I have seen has ever done that. Thank boys - I look forward to NYE and anything you may decide to do after that.
Might be a stretch but a NFA opener.
1st set Corrina, Althea, I need a miracle, new speedway, deep ellum, me and my uncle and casey jones.
2nd set in order passenger, Iko Iko, esstimated, peaceful valley, cumberland, Deal, he's gone, Deal reprise, wharf rat, and touch of grey ecore.
Just hoping for the above. Probably going to get an eyes, lost, saint, half step, cryptical, two djinn, sampson and pride of cucamonga
no - it's time for the Other one again
why do you folks obsess and obsess about what you are going to hear and whatnot? just let it happen, let it flow...no lists just bliss
AND THANK YOU MR KEVIN FREDETTE!!!!!!
Just listening to 06-07-70 at Fillmore West. Why doesn't Bobby lighten up a bit and do this again:
BW: (faked English accent) "I say, my dog has no nose!"
JG: "How does he smell?"
BW: "Bloomin' awful!"
...to polite applause and chuckles from the crowd
Yellow dog joke. They don't have as many equipment problems.
Shout out to Bill in RI Gooch and I will miss u tmrw
just got a call from lot 9 vending friends), not allowed to set up for shakedown, and lot is real empty, someone got lucky and copped a center stage floor tic for a good $$ ( have a good show babe, you deserve it..)
is this show undersold ??
have fun and stay safe

Franklin's Child said: "Yellow dog joke. They don't have as many equipment problems".
NO, that is not the "Yellow Dog" joke. The yellow dog story is totally different. A dog walks into a bar.....My point was that Bobby would be better served by lightening up and chatting with the crowd a bit these days. He is way too stuffy and scruffy.
is he gonna stream tonight too?
see above post from KF on 11-14-11 at 8:46 PM
cool i was only reading stuff from today , missed that.
Hi Adam! I've cleaned up my act and am ready for inspection.
Hey Hounder! Where the hell have you been hiding? Power restored up there yet? I know you are clean, meantime I am "down and dirty". Still got the chainsaw?
getting close to show time!!!!!
show started
See Adam-I knew youd come around. Its hard to resist the hounder charm. Never lost power but my saws are all ready to rock. Couch show for you tonight?
Yes Hounder, I am "on the couch" this tour with my 2 Lhasa Apsos. Nice to know that you are a decent person after all is said and done. Live and love, love and live. No nasty stuff, not cool. Keep that to yourself.
the stream just went online just now!! show about to start it started!1 wake of the flood...

time to go see about a fat boy.....
who has my stream
donde esta el chat room?
Thanks for the kudos Adam! I felt it coming.
just getting in now...
HCS>Row Jimmy... that's some good 'ol '73 styling right there.
yessiree that's true
the fat boy has sung! had to go see a man about a (yellow) dog (story):
Now what I think I'll do, is I'll take this opportunity to tell y'all
a story. 'Cause y'all haven't heard it yet. And it goes like this.
There was a fellow, and he had a dog, a pet dog. And he used to walk
his dog around, every now and again. And anyway, well, it was a hot
summer day and he walking his dog, and he thought he'd stop off at the
bar and have himself a beer. And he did just that. He walked into the
bar, and he walked up to the bar. And he put his change on the bar,
and he said to the bartender, "I'd like a glass of beer." And the
bartender said, "Certainly, Sir, coming right up." Meanwhile, while he
was waiting for his beer, he looked down the bar and there was this
fellow sitting down the bar with a big black slick mean-looking dog.
Now the fellow down the other side of the bar, with the short fat
squat ugly little yellow dog, said ... nothing. But the guy with the
big black slick mean-looking dog looked down the bar at the guy with
the short fat squat ugly little yellow dog, and said "hey that sure is
an ugly little dog you got there, mister. All short fat squat ugly and
yellow." Well the guy with the short fat squat ugly little yellow dog
said to the guy with the big black sleek mean-looking dog "yeah, well
he may be ugly but he sure can fight." And the guy with the big black
slick mean-looking dog said to the guy with the short fat squat ugly
little yellow dog, "Yeah?" The guy with the short fat squat ugly
little yellow dog said, "Yeah." So they decided they'd take them both
out back behind the bar and let them fight it out. "I'll put a fiver
on mine. You put a fiver on yours. Winner take home the bucks." They
figured that was a good idea and they did just that. They took them
out the back and they let them fight it out. And the short fat squat
ugly little yellow dog just kicked you-know-what out the big black
slick mean-looking dog. And when the fight was over and the big black
slick mean-looking dog was over in the corner licking his wounds, the
short fat squat ugly little yellow dog was hopping around, the guy
with the big black slick mean-looking dog allowed as, yeah, the short
fat squat ugly little yellow dog sure could fight. But ... "I never
seen a dog look like that before, all short fat squat little ugly and
yellow. What kind of dog is that anyway?" And the guy with the short
fat squat ugly little yellow dog said to the guy with the big black
slick mean-looking dog, "Yeah, well he used to be an alligator before
I cut his tail off and painted him yellow.

happy birthday, Karen
thanks, adam! it's been awesome...got to go backstage in buffalo!
They need to play more sets like this consistently... a Garcia/Hunter ballad followed by a non-obvious last set song like UJB.
For example, when you try to replace a Garcia/Hunter ballad with Sugaree or Dear Mr. Fantasy or something like that the show, no matter how great, looses depth.
Great show here...
P.S
If I'm not mistaken... UJB, Stella Blue, and All Along the Watchtower were played at the "Dozin' at the Knick" show... if they encore with Brokedown tonight... that may be enough evidence for a definite Dozin' theme...
...got to go backstage in buffalo!

Vincent, be grateful for the magic they bring to us. There is nothing better for Deadheads. Phil is 70, Bobby seems older despite being younger, they work very hard and they pour their hearts out. And they do it for us!!
Thank you Kevin for this great stream!
Thank you Adam for keeping up with the setlist!
Happy birthday Karen!
Happy Birthday Karen... ((( backstage...AWESOME ))).
in all my years of showgoing ( now age 50, first show 1974...Philly), never a backstage has come for me, is all good....as i had my first ever front row in Boston, and Jeff handed me the rose at shows end...!!! It is pressed in between the pages of my first ever music book ~
Adam, next tour when we come to Philly, i will bring you goodie bag !!
>great show here
I concur! Thanks for the stream! The NYE run is gonna be fun, fun. Serious fun, even. I thought the band sounded really good tonight. Again.
Sorry karen that wasn't nice, in bad taste, please excuse me I was channeling Hounder. What was the scene backstage?
Dear God, Thank you for these gifted musicians! Can somebody give me an AMEN!
there you go vince, the brokedown encore!
scene was pretty mellow
>>>Vincent, be grateful for the magic they bring to us. There is nothing better for Deadheads. Phil is 70, Bobby seems older despite being younger, they work very hard and they pour their hearts out. And they do it for us!!
Oh yes... please do not take my critics as a sign of ungratefulness. I love Phil and Bobby more than words can tell...
But! I would bet that Phil and Bobby will be looking to improve/study/critic their music, their life's work, until the day they leave this Earth... this is all one big beautiful project in constant revision...
P.S.S
...Brokedown... not to give myself self a high five right now but THAT's how you analytically predict a setlist ;)... Thanks Adam!

I once found a backstage pass on the ground at Oxford Plains Maine in 1988 and gave it to a buddy...still kicking myself for not going back...I was having too good time dancing around out front.....
Amen Karen..from Pastor Dave...can't wait for my live show tomorrow in Columbus...lots of what I'm hoping for still in play for me.
Love the double encores they've been doing. Only one I've seen in person was Mann Center's Fool in the Rain / OMSN. It was fantastic. I hope they continue to do this.
Also - on the Spring Tour, I'd love to see an acoustic set. How many others out there would like to see an acoustic set?
i was at that show, dave - we went camping up in bethel
My dad has one backstage story:
He sees Phil... freaks out. Phil sees that he is fanning out and waddles up to him... gives him a huge shit-eating-grin and waddles away onto the stage.
here's an AMEN,Karen!
folks i just wanna say its been an amazing beautiful lovely night from me and my dogs we love you
Dmcg I was at Maine in88 as well! Great run of shows and I found my ticket on the ground and won the coin toss over my buddy.
I went to msg and ac today is my bday but show not in play tonight. was it really that empty?
Adam, we've probably crossed paths before somewhere along the line. It's been fun following along furthur with you and the gang. I'll be in the phil zone tomorrow night...just off to the side of the stage. Night ya'all...gotta rest up.
nite all ~ schweeet dreamzzz...;) thanks for stream n updates ~
Thanks Bobby and Philip, see ya friday!!!!!
That NFA killed tha Alpharetta opener.
Police security areound the lots was minimal especially commpared to the last "The Dead" show. The ballons that were evident before the show were widespread after.
The entire upper deck seating of about 4-5000 was closed off with Black Curtains. The curtains give the venue a smaller feel for events that can't sell as many tickets. The 3 day Dozin run was sold out for the entire arena. The floor was packed, but there was a large area behind the boards/taper area that another 3 sections of seats could have been set up. Before the encore while doing some audience gazing, I noticed empty seats in the back and back corners of the lower deck. Maybe they found their way to the floor, or may not have been sold.
Loose lucy was the only repeat from the Amherst show a week earlier that was only a 100 miles away from Alb. Was hoping for a wharf rat, cumberland and Althea....Oh well maybe next time.
I thought the 1st set started a little slow. 2nd set seemed to hit full stride with Estimated. Enjoyable show, but I liked Amherst better.
Security on the floor with their attempt to keep the aisles clear was a royal PITA as they pointed their led flashlights in peoples faces. Guess where I was.......2nd row 2nd section back from the stage with an aisle seat. I would prefer the aisles clogged with people than those dam led flashlights.
Early in the 2nd set, an older woman (late 50's ?) who had been dancing with her husband fell down. When she got up she staggered around some before going back down. Her staggering drew enough attention, that a few of us were able to catch her. She then sat with her husband in the seat ahead of me for the remainder of the night. Her husband stood by her side with his arm around her. She was pretty out of it with her eyes closed, but I did see her mouthing some of the lyrics. And Of course, every 10-15 minutes, security with their gazillion bulb, high output, ranger danger, LED lights had to come ask her if she wanted to leave. And, each time her husband insisted that they leave her alone. And no, I didn't ask the husband if her name was Lee.
Thats enough keystrokes after very little sleep.
weak sauce.

Mammouth show last nite
VERY very mellow first set....then set II
The foreshadowing of Here Come Sunshine and Here Comes
The Sun came in an anthemic form......The Anthem of the Sun!!!!!
"The other day they waited.......summer sun.....unbended.....he had to die."
BABOOM Other One ripped shreded evolved spun.....Phil w 2 emphatic
bombs when Bob sings"the bus came by and I got on that's when it all began....."
BOOM>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>BOMB
plus Phil tops it off (don't believe I've ever heard em keep on) w
"And when the day it ended.........he had to die."
incredible stunning and speechless
Watchtower develops and I get a small bit of ego back and think, 'O geez
not my favorite" fugetaboutit......it is now vista cruiser and mary had alittle lamb
would work.....very very well delivered w many phases twist and turns and very
much to the point.......a joke?....no......but bittersweet dream.......I've stayed in
cheap hotels and can't win for trying but if you'll dust off those rusty strings
one more time.....i'll make em *shine*......yes Stella Blue had me reflecting/missing
Jer and the nothing we get for free.......elegantly beautiful, enchantingly gorgeous....etc....sigh
UJB took us back home with all the grateful grace that has always been the pattern of the glue
running thru our trips/journey>>>>>>>>>>>>what are we reminded of on our journey home and
upon arrival.........of course, Love is real not fade away...bahoom...bop......badop bop
We got the coda for the evening that I felt had to be played and was....a sublime yet radiant
Brokedown Palace sung us sweet and (not too) sleep all the way back home......................
As Ian said, 2nd set.....IT was off the hook.......profoundly Grateful............
just exactly perfectly articulated ^^^^
Nice review!
It's funny you say that about Watchtower... I remember feeling the same way when hearing it at this Summer's New Jersey show: As I had the thought "not my favorite" I found myself lost in the song and loving it... the band does it well.
holy shit, it's AdamDean
really nice show last night
second set was superbalicious
Scurve you should post more often I like what you have to say and the way you say it...

Here Comes Sunshine:
Well, I tried, but my problems have problems
Hey there sorry I did not get this up earlier. The scene at 5:00pm was so mellow on Shakedown, no nirtous, and folks seemed in good spirts.I knew attendance would be low but when I went in early...i was like wow. It filled up once the show started right at 7:12pm.
The HC Sunshine> Row Jimmy was incredible. Phil was a monster and the entire band was dialed in.
I can not stress how intense the jam in HC Sunshine was and then right into a poetic Row Jimmy. What a start. This version featured a great piano solo from Jeff and was spot on.
Thought we were gonna get BT Wind, oh one night off, next but the first of two Bobby curve balls soon followed. Big Bad Blues. It was good and afforded me a run to the can.
Magnolia Mountian was sweet and I enjoyed it.Energy and focus of the crowd waned somewhat. Many Ratdog fans on this night.
I could not belive we Minglewood, time out for Bobby after this one. He botched up the "T for Texas' verse which was a hoot.
Dire Wolf through Cosmic was very good, although not nearly intense as the first two songs.
Set two started off with a rocking Passenger with Phil going deep. He was sick the entire second set.
Here Comes the Sun was nice and they played it out quite well. Crowd loved it.
I got my cherry popped with No More Do I, is that a Hunter tune? It was quite good.
The next sequence was just epic. A deep Estimated as the launch pad and away we went, it was just what I needed for my last show of the year with Furthur.
The band laid it down big time.
A nice long slinky jam with no real hints of where it might go they just flowed with it The tranistion into Crypitcal was perfect and very fluid.
Phil stepped up to the mic with conviction and delivered a ery strong performance. The jam out of it was clear where we we going and it was great to see the Other One reunited with it. The wave just swelled and teh band was fierce and things got intense fast.
The build up into the Other one was great and then a text booking reading by Bob and the band.
The jam into the second verse was intense and Phil, OMG was just dropping power chords all over the place.
The place was coming around then to be brought down by the lilting resuring notes of the return to Crypitcal but his fate already sealed it was spot on.
Then Bobby started strumming those familar chords and John, Phil, Joe, and Jeff attacked this version. Wow it was wild and the John's solo was sick and then Jeff just wailed on teh B3.
Once again Phil was the man and he just slammed his hammer down on that stage.
I knew what was coming next and it was nice to have an old familar pairing have us dancing on air.
This version was everything you wanted it to be, compared to the one I saw the previous summer in Herkimer, they was the bonefide reading.
The band was sweet with conviction and John solos and singing was beautiful.
"It seems like all this life was just a dream...Stella Blue"
that line always brrings tears to my eyes and on this night it just touched my soul.
A majestic ending solo and wow.
The sound was huge and this Stella was maybe the best one this band has played.
To come out of a dream into the reasuring chords of an uptempo UJB was a perfect pairing and as Mike described above this verison was stellar. The audience right with the band on the vocals and Jeff and Sunshine really did well here too.
The jam at the end was just massive and Phil was so intense. I was in awe and in ectasy.
Phil gave us a heartfelt rap with the lights shining on the audience as Phil wanted to see us all tonight and he was all smiles.
NFA was perfect and the Knick just rocked it out with the band. I knew were were getting the Brokedown as Bobby and the band really gave a nice vocal spat with the audience at the end and then an endearing and brilliant Brokedown, only one of the tour so far, Bob did hesistated on the start of third verse, the audience helped him get through it and a minor blemmish as this one was just pure gold.
" Going home, going home
By the waterside I will rest my bones
Listen to the river sing sweet songs
To rock my soul"
Well done Furthur and Albany.
Happy Trails
Love your review Ted. Spot on.
I love these guys.
(((((Once again Phil was the man and he just slammed his hammer down on that stage. ))))
Hells yeah baby!!!
Just listened to a great recording of this show... this may be the most fluid Furthur show I've heard. And also, one of the most elegant starts to a show: HCS>Row Jimmy... love Phil's urgency in raising the tempo of Row Jimmy...
The sequence of Estimated Prophet>Cryptical>Other One>Cryptical>Watchtower>Stella>UJB is absolutely incredible.
That's it, Ted!! A nice long slinky jam it is!
