Mornin' zoners - a new day, a new thread! Where was the stream from Rosemont?
Kevin F, if you are out there, we want to send you to St. Louis for tomorrow night's show.
WE NEED A STREAM!!!! The couch tour deserves a stream for these final Midwest shows. So c'mon all you I-Phone owners, free the music.
The way this Midwest run is going (and bobbywerido's apparent take-down at Columbus in mind, anyone else catch that on the video stream?) it seems highly unlikely that we will get a stream....but keep praying as sometimes we all need a miracle every day!!
Ok guys and gal, we suffered through a 3 hour drive Furthur away from Kentucky. Woe is us. Its nice to have problems like whether or not to actually get in the car and go Furthur. Not sure if anything could top last night ever but I freaking DOUBLE DARE you guys to do that again!!!
have fun and be safe

Bobby's been doing Saturday Night as the opener on Saturday lately, except for last weekend in Atlantic City, it was the encore along with Ripple.
I was just listenin to the show from a few nights ago and I heard bobby singing ripple. Weird right, why Bobby?
If you're there, what's the difference when they start. If you're here, what's the difference when they start? If you're here and on a streaming, why are you not sharing it with us all?

I'm in the lot at Rosemont cranking the Canada 90 Scarlet>Fire I was at - when all sudden, dude walks up and asks "Is it OK if I play drums". I was like - sure bro, next thing I know, 15 heads are dancing and drumming by my ride, I started drumming and really felt the power of our community like I haven't felt in a long time.
Furthur is bringing us back together when we need it most - wish I had the money to be in the land of Cheese tonight. But, I'm glad I saw them at all.

I know it sounds weird but KY kind texted me and said it was miracle >Wang dang >miracle. He's not likely to be wrong....
It was like a miracle reprise. About 15 seconds after Wang Dang.
Might call it a 'reprise', but it wasn't full on back into Miracle. Nice touch in any case

and a decent Death Don't. I wish they'd save OMSN for the encore. We know it is coming at Saturday shows, so it's a throwaway (a throwaway that I like). I'd love to get one more full jam in there instead.
Oh yeah, it was like a reprise, thats a great way of saying "wow you're right, they did go back in to miracle!" have fun in St.louis, I'm taking my ass back to Ky to pick up the end of couch tour. Listen to the chicago 2nd set, best of the tour so far!!! See ya on the road!!!
My second of two shows on this tour, this one made a nice pair with the prior night. They started very close to the published 7:30. The floor and 200 level were mostly full, and the 300 level was nearly empty. Golden Road is always a good opener to my ear, bringing lots of focus to Phil and his bass. Miracle was a tad on the mellow side but held together pretty well. Transition to Wang Dang was clear as day. Might've worked better in reverse, as WDD was a bit mellower than Miracle, but it was fine and cruised along. Transition back to Miracle was really just a quick re-statement of it's vocal outro before Althea, as noted above. Althea got a nice response, and kinda chill as I recall. I kept waiting for Bob and Phil to attack this one, but to my ear they took more of a support role and let the band run a bit. The band seems very respectable in this mode, playing with more reverence than recklessness, which I could not argue with, even if i wanted things to boil over more than they did. After a hard stop, Phil cranked up a brisk Tom Thumb's. I thought maybe he'd mention the Governor (Recall Walker signs/petitions were everywhere), but he said "they blackmailed the CONGRESSMAN" with great verbal and facial emphasis instead. Phil appeared to enjoy JK's first solo so much that he caught his eye and had him do it again before singing the next verse, which was fun to see up close. Suddenly I was ready for a quick lobby run, which I did during Money For Gasoline, a song I have heard but don't know well. I was very happy to see $6.50 Hopalicious Ales after paying $8 for Bud in Chicago, and made it back to my floor sear for the intro to Roses. I saw them do this one in Chicago on their first tour, and it was as solid this time as it was then, nice, slow and ambling. Throwing Stones was taken at a pretty subdued tempo, which was a little anti-climactic at first, but everybody held course and got it pretty cranked up by the end. OMSN was also delivered a bit slowly, but was good fun to close the set, and opened the door for other options later.
Set break was mercifully shorter than in Chicago, maybe 40 mins instead of 50-55. China Cat was a warmly welcomed opener, but seemed to fly by very quickly, reaching the typical peak before turning over into Rider a bit sooner than I was ready for. Rider had the big vocal blend and some good dynamics, though nothing like the big hits I remember from my first two China>Riders on 3/28/85 and 3/26/87. I always like this band's handling of Jack Straw and this one was no exception. UBC was a killer call for the next tune and definitely got the old school on board, though the younger folks around us did not seem to recognize it. Nice long version with some excellent playing from the entire band. Real cool to hear Weir and Phil work out on this one while JK, Jeff and Joe let it rip freely. I'll have to consult the tapes, but it seemed like either Phil or JK hit a monster clam on the closing chord, which sounded very weird, though not necessarily bad. Or maybe it was just Phil trying to take them right into Viola intro bomb and catching someone off guard. I was glad they confined Viola Lee to one big version instead of breaking it up into three segments. I took a few notes as follows: Nice long opening jam and first verse, followed by a low-key down and dirty jam, then Bob laid into some slide and they started to take it way up, cranking up the tempo until they reached a blazing ecstatic peak, entire crowd going nuts. Then they hit the opening again fully before nailing the last verse to close with Russo left alone to setup the next tune. Just as I was thinking his brief drum break would lead to The Other One, Phil lead them thrillingly into King Solomon's. It was a monster version, very competently rendered. I remember hearing The Dead do this one with Warren Haynes, nailing it way better than I expected they would in Denver a few years ago. This version seemed a bit less fushion'y to me, but was no less exciting. Weir then led the band right into a slinky blues groove that sounded like The Same Thing, but no sooner did I utter this idea than they went clearly into Death Don't Have No Mercy. Much like the prior night, the second set sequencing and song selection was really good so far! Bobby sang a "death is always in a hurry" verse that I didn't recognize, not sure where that came from. Seemed like no way the set was going to end here when they hit a hard stop, so I was hoping for Terrapin, Help/Slipknot/Franklins, Blues for Allah or something big and crazy to end the show. Bertha>Good Lovin' was definitely a bit of a let down after those wholly off-the-mark aspirations. I like that they move traditional first and second set songs around in Further, but Bertha seemed like a weird choice to me at this juncture. Thankfully they made it a fun and rocking version with those big hits I was missing in Rider, so I was fully on board by the end of this one. And I always get excited when I hear Phil and Bob's old-style intro to Good Lovin', but then I remember it's Good Lovin', a song I never need to hear again, by this band or any other.... The cool old intro riff came back during the jam, which got my attention, but Bob returned them to the last verse and outro as soon as it got exciting. The same folks who didn't seem to get UBC and KSM were all rockin' out at this point, so I guess I can see what Bob was thinking, even if this wasn't my cup of tea for a closer.
It was barely after 11 pm at this point, so I was thinking there was plenty of time for a massive encore, but it was not to be. That said, Black Muddy River was a nice call and was played and sung quite beautifully, esp for a breakout (as I was later informed by this very page!).
Post-show lot scene was good fun for almost an hour before it started getting cold and the crowd thinned out, at which point we adjourned to America's Best Value Inn, a solid bargain at $55 a night for two comfortable beds under 10 mins from the arena.
Unfortunately I can't get down to St Louis, but I'm glad I caught these two shows, and will definitely see this band anytime I can in future.
remember those 30-second St.Stephen reprises from 1976? I wouldn't want to miss one of those because of non-inclusive setlist.
I hear ya non-inclusive! This show was slow and it was my first Viola but it was a little off. Sometimes slow is good after a monster like Chicago but my dugout ran out and, well my dugout ran out. Anyway they did sound very good, they just played like a different band than the night before. Not worse, just different. I am a big fan of Fridays different band! Peace phreaks!
that's because we shot our wads the night before and it was to recoup and you don't do that by blowing it out again.
it felt just exactly perfect to me and the Black Muddy was some serious icing on the cake.
I didn't get a wink of sleep the night before, every time I'd close my eyes the fraqtels were in rare form, pun intended.
so come Madison me and I assume many others were ready for too and fro, not to fast and not too slow.
