How are things between Jimmy and Phil these days? Can we expect Jimmy to sit in with the Friends for a few, or is there an issue there?
I'd almost rather not have an extra guy up there for Phil's set. I love Jimmy's playing but Scofield and Warren is already a full sound. Remember what it was like during the Dead 03 with like 10 guitarists up there.
Now if he were in the lineup...that would be a different beast altogther. Really looking forward to Scofield though. I only saw 1 show during that run he did with Phil and it was also in AVL.
I know Scofield is in for the CO shows, but I haven't seen him listed for the X-Mas Jam. Anyone?
I do agree about the too many cooks thing, but Warren and Jimmy?!
Not clue on the reliability of the source, but I heard Bela is playing with Jimmy Herring, Jeff Sipe and Bill Evans as part of Bill Evans Soulgrass. All I can find so far...
Maybe I planted Scofield's name in from seeing the CO listing. I'm not sure now who is the other guy unless it's jackie. I guess that's right but I was putting him in the keys slot since I had the imagination to pick Scofield for this one. I might be making shit up at this point and I can honestly say I won't care once I get in front of that stage and Phil starts to drop some bombs on me.
FYI - it is w/warren & jackie
Yes - Jackie Green, not Scofield

Holy shit! Did you hear what Warren said when they were leaving the stage? "There's a lot more music ahead. Phil's staying around. Everybody is staying on."

What an amazing night of music. The Bela Herring Sipe Evans Driessen set was killer. Los Lobos killed too... Highlights were Rattlesnake Shake and an extended Bertha with WH on slide.
I actually thought P&F struggled until about Rider. Viola was mostly a mess to my ears. Might have been the sound... couldn't hear Phil on floor. Set totally took off once Herring came on stage, though.
My highlight of entire night was probably the Low Spark. Just wild stuff

I'm surprised there aren't more of these up here by now.
Wonderful evening of music. The Bela set was extraordinary. I had my doubts about how Jimmy and Bela's sounds would gel but that was quickly done away with. The whole set was well played and almost ridiculously well delivered.
Los Lobos was fun. I have not seen them since the original Further festivals of '96 or so. I had the feeling they would include a Bertha as well.
I'd like to retract my earlier statement about concerns with having too many guys on stage if Jimmy stepped up during Phil's set. Contrary to what my wife might say, I'm more than happy to admit that I was completely incorrect in making that assumption. I thought the show was really, really nice, especially the second half with Jimmy up there. My only complaint was with Jackie's vocal delivery on ChinaCat. It's hard to articulate but I wasn't really smitten with it for some reason. Maybe that will change after I listen today.
Really worn out by the time Mule came out and missed the last few tunes. It was nice to hear Phil in a non-Dead setting during the Low Spark. It's been several years since I saw that too and it was well delivered. The Dear Prudence with Jimmy was also nice.
I was originally really psyched to see the spring shows pop up over the weekend as that is nearing my 40th birthday and I thought a long weekend in NYC would be just the ticket but I may hold that thought for now and see what Phil has to say. That was a wonderful set of music and I could really see doing a sizable run of shows if they appeared for me.

Im a HUGE P&F's fan here, and I hope they do alot more shows, but I was listening to the X-Mas jam show, and tho I only heard 1 song (Viola Lee Blues) IMO it was pretty bad.. The Furthur Viola's Ive heard have been outstanding. Maybe I have to listen to the entire show, but I really didnt care for Jackie Green hackin up that song.
Listened to the New Speedway from the night before,12/9/11,sounds killer,Eddieboy!
