I'm not able to make this run myself, but just the prospect of it forces me to post this. Four nights in a row of P&F and ABB! (can Warren hold up?) Arguably both groups are at the peak of their game, creatively and dynamically reinterpreting the two repetoires that are at the foundation of jamband culture. Plus Derek Trucks Band 1st two nights, Susan Tedeschi second two nights. A number of Peachheads are making the entire run; how is it on the Phil side?
Here's the lineups (thanks to Christine King on ABB list):
- Va Beach: DTB, ABB, P&F
- Raleigh: DTB, P&F, ABB
- Charlotte: Susan Tedeschi, ABB,P&F
- HOT'lanta: Susan Tedeschi, P&F, ABB
Note how P&F and ABB switch off order each night. Anyway, the possible permutations are mind boggling; inevitably they'll be the triple jam with Warren, Jimmy and Derek. Can't help but think that both Duane and Jerry will be there in spirit as well.
Anyone on this list making the entire run? Keep us jealous observers posted.
I certainly would expect at least Derek to jam with PLQ as he has done that before.
At the Denver Fillmore last spring, Derek's band was in town at the same time and he stopped by the Fillmore to play with Phil during the first set and before his own gig started. Great stuff!!!
Will the ABB use Candace's lighting ?
Will the ABB use Candace's lighting ? Also I
hope P&F will play more than two hours at these
shows at least 2.5 hours!
Hey now! I thought I was finished after Red Rocks, but it appears that I might be traveling on work and there is a chance that I can swing the three-way ticket to fly through Hotlanta.
It also appears that there are still tickets for the final show, so what the heck? Mighty Swell.
What's the venue like? Will I need to rent a car or can I get there via MARTA from the airport?
Yes, you can get there by MARTA from the airport. Gotta get off at a certain stop and hop a bus that they'll have waiting to shuttle you on to the venue. And then, of course, they'll bring you back after the show, to the same station. I'm not sure how late they run (or if they run the full service that late), so don't dilly-dally afterwards. Enjoy!
Hey now-i too thought i was done at red rocks, but i bought a ticket to fly into charlotte last night. If anyone else is flying in on sat 08/04/01,i won't be in till 4:11pm i really need a ride to the amphitheater, show starts at 5:00pm.I'm flying in from Denver,i'll be on the planes all day.I hope to get a Missippi half step of a passenger,i see they did it last night.I love this band.Well,i need to go to work...if you are flying in to charlotte and need some help with hotel or car money e mail me at rkiarsis@mail.com
Butch Trucks has stated on the ABB forum that both bands will play full 2 hour sets each night. He didn't comment on the "jam" speculation but said everybody should be very pleased with the shows. Man, I can't wait for these shows! Didn't catch a single concert last year, saw my first Phil & Friends show in Asheville. Some people don't think much of the 4/19 show, but upon hearing that opening jam, I had goose bumps & actually had tears streaming down my face by the time they broke into NFA. It just felt so damn GOOD to feel/hear that kind of music live again. I hope to meet up with some of you folks in Raleigh & Charlotte. I'll be handing out shows from both the ABB & Phil. I live in Winston-Salem which is perfectly located midway between Raleigh & Charlotte.
I saw Phil and friends in Ft Laud on the second night they played, all i can say is that i turned to look at everyone about a quarter ways into the show and people were in shock, as i was. I am a die hard Allmans fan, and what i liked about their shows is that you never got cheated, they are all about raw power. In the end, i love the dead songs more, i think that Jerry and Robert Hunter have created some incredible riffs and lyrics. The conbination of these two awesome sides to rock are so apparent with Phil and friends, and it is really on the back of Warren Haynes, he is so at his peak right now, i mean he sounded good on an evening with the allman brothers, but this is different, he is so tight, i take that back, the band is so tight. Suffice it to say, i am makin the trek to Hotlanta for the show at Lakewood, where i saw my first Allmans show, hope to see you all there, something awesome is going to go down, i dont know what but itll be cool, maybe gregg allman will sing "Turn on your Lovelight" with phil and friends, who knows, its that kind of anticipationn that makes me love this music.
These are the four dates in our summer
long-weekend mini-tour and I am so psyched
to see all these musicians together. I caught 2
of the PFQ spring shows (Birmingham and
Atlanta) and was impressed not only with the
music and energy of the band and the
audience, but with the entire scene in general.
The lots in Atlanta were really happening, but
not full of the young "can I get a splash of your
beer?" kids that seemed to crawl out of the
woodwork at the last few Dead tours.
I've realy enjoyed hearing all the songs that
Warren has been singing and have a few on
the wish list. Low Spark, Into the Mystic, And it
Stoned Me …
My big questions are - Are other people
making similar road trips? And if so, what are
people doing for lodging in Va. Beach and
Raleigh? Camping? My girlfriend just got a
new camper top for the truck, so worse comes
to worst, we blow up the air mattress and
catch some zzzz's at a rest stop. But of course,
we'd rather find somewhere that other kind
folks are gonna be stayin'.
We live in Atlanta, so I figure after Charlotte
we'll just drive on home late night. It will be
really nice to wake up in our own bed and then
catch the last night of the tour in the
hometown.
Anyway - hope to see some of y'all at the
shows. We'll be the really happy people sitting
around the cooler behind the little black Toyota
pick-up with the brand new camper top (but an
old dent in the tailgate).
-Michael
I too am interested in hangin with brofans and philphans alike.. any word on good camping and or hotels along the path Raleigh>Atlanta.
peace "and People can you feel it..."
mikeV
ps will be riding from SW Florida if anyone interested in rides or caravans drop me a line
mike,
We will be in Charlotte on friday and sat.
We will be staying at Norwood Campgrounds in Norwood. About 45mins away from the venue>>>
Tell everybody, the camping is supposed to be real cool and wooded.
Hope to see you there and we can have High Times!!
Also, I wish we can put this Bob and Phil diversity away!!
Both Phil and Bob are making me and my wife feel young again. Whether all care or not, Jerry gave me some of the best times of my life and Ill never forget him for that. But I cant bring the Dead back. I can only remember him thru his Music!!
So ive been away from the scene for awhile,(did see a few Furthers and it just wasnt the same tho). So what Im getting at is this>>>
Me and My wife of fifteen yrs are going to Charlotte to hear my all time favorite thing *JAMS*. And it will be my wifes Birthday also, and we will be hearing her favorite also.(she's a brothers freak). Both bands music to me are about possitives and boogies. So will yall please get rid of the contrast opinions please, just until after Charlotte!!!!haha.
By the way, how has the lot scene been? Any vending going on? We dont never sell anything but we love to buy and party.
What time can we get to the Venue? the show starts about 5. how early can we get in the lot to start Jamming?
anybody got an extra raleigh pavilion for sale? or possibly a va beach section 2 row c to trade.need something good for taping purposes. also considering charlotte but not sure just yet.
Sounds like the Quintet have been on a roll since Red Rocks! I know master of the understatement. ;-)
I am glad to read that all of you have been keeping the positive energy going for the most part: sucker punches and inconsiderate minority aside.
Going to make my training trip "trifecta" complete with the last show in Hotlanta, hope to meet up with some of you at Camden and Atlanta.
Staying at the Sheraton in Buckhead; anyone give me a ride after the show, in case I miss the bus back to the MARTA stop?
I'll be down there with my ride headlight.
My travelling compadres and I have Monday and Tuesday off for the ride back to New England, so we got time to take it slow on the ride home..
and therefore could probably hook you up.
Thanks, Cryptical! I hope this won't be necessary, but good to know you can count on a few Phriends.
I'll try and check with the MARTA folks to find out the bus schedule to and from the venue to the Rail line. I have to catch an early flight out on Monday, so probably won't be staying past the tiome they quit running.
Whatever works, homes.
We'll discuss it...AT THE SHOW!!
WOO HOO!
ONE WEEK TILL PHIL AND PEACHES!
Well, since I making the trip all the way from CO, why don't we try something like what they played at the Philmore in Denver? Check out:
Phil & Friends 2.10.01
PHILmore Auditorium - Denver, CO
Set 1:
*Jam> *Birdsong> *Jam> *The Eleven> *Jam> *Keep On Growin' (all-1st)> Built to Last (WH)> Dear Mr Fantasy (WH)Doin'That Rag (RB)
Set 2:
+Lovelight (ST&WH)> Mountains>Just A Little Light (WH) Milestones> Patchwork Quilt (WH)> St Stephen>
Mountain Jam> St Stephen> The Golden Road (WH)
E: Tom Thumbs
* w/ Derek Trucks
+w/ Susan Tedeschi
The DMF/Doin'That Rag to end the first set was not to be believed. Figure they could stick in a Forest's of Fennario and New Speedway, Possibly the Unbroken for an encore.
If you read this far and are familiar with the venue, please suggest a place where Cryptical and I can hook up even if I won't need a ride.
Thanks, Peace and Keep Dancing! :-) :-) :-)
I'm certain that these shows will suck. You should all stay home and watch TV instead. Maybe pick your toenails or something.
These shows will not Suck!!!
Its all what you think sucks!!
Im going with a POSITIVE attitude so I know it wont suck.
Whats wrong with kids these days? It seems that all people has got to talk about is the darker side of the shows. Riots, pukin, shitting, fighting or one pit bull screwing the other behind the wheel on a tye-dye vw van with deadhead want-a-be stickers all over it.
What happen to the beautiful side of the shows ive experienced in the past? Beautiful women in long skirts doing the snake during EYES or just ppl coming up to you and introducing thierselves to you and the next thing you know Yall where best buddies for the next four hrs. smokin a big QB and dancing your ass off during a Nice Bertha or Jackstraw>
Whats going on out there? Did Jerry not leave his impression on evrybody that needed it?
It just must be a different generation I guess, but the way yall are talking on this forum, Im kinda glad I did "OUTGROW MY TRIP"
Any RESPONSE???
That's one of the few things wrong with this medium; it's so easy to mistake sarcasm for the real message...
I do believe that the dark side deserves reviewing to, if only so we can all learn from each other and not repeat the same mistakes...
I can promise you this last show will definitely not suck; unless I can't get a ticket and even then it will only suck for me...
Not likely, come on Ruby!
sarcasm?

Siva even I got That ..;)))
Exploding in anticipation for Friday Nights double header...possibilities ar endless. Hopin security is as lax as it usually is at the Creek never had a problem( Furthur WSP Phish Allmans) always laid back If you arrive b4 gates open ther is a park 1 mile away make left just before the main gate go under bridge and voila
Can we pleez quit stereotypin PhishHeads and remember the unfortunate evolution of the scene was being noticed at the last few dead tours even the Boys threatened to call it quits before Mother Nature stole our beloved idol guru icon , Jerry. Spreading the word and being kind always works better than pointing fingers. Peace and hope to see you there .....all of you
eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!
doggie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm hoping for a Morning Dew in Atlanta. Greg and Duane covered it on an Hourglass album. I think a megajam closing out Hotlanta will dew me in. I've been touring for years and I'm as excited about this Saturday and Sunday show as any jaunt I can remember...
The magic that is going to fill the air in Carolina over the next couple of evenings will be indescribable. I have not seen P&F since P was with the Dead, but I know his band is melodic and very spiritual. To add to this, ABB should rock the house as they always do in Carolina. I am certain there will be some really special jams with the bands combined...Franklins Tower, Mountain Jam, Lovelight (Duanne & Greg have the most incredible version of this song on their "All Live" album). There are endless speculations as to what we might see...I do know Duanne, Berry, Allen, and of course Jerry will be there in spirit / force to make these evenings surreal.
See all you good people in Charlotte and Hotlanta. Look for me. I'll be the guy with the big grin on his face. Ya can't miss me.
EVERYBODY BE SAFE!
This from Saturday night
"We were here before the lots opened and waited patiently to get let in
E verything was chill for about 2 hours then cops swept shakedown every hour
Busting people in lot
Decided to go in
Huge line only 2 turnstiles working
Refused your humble reporter entry becuase I had a pen knife on my key chain"
Sounds like fun...no doubt it will get much much better.
didn't search my person but when I turned my pockets out the 17 year old girl

Thank you TaperRob.
They did "terrapin" without "Lady w/ a Fan", not just Inspiration jam. One of the best shows ever!
Oh my gosh, what a great time that was! Did the Beach to Charlotte, and boy an I upset I missed the peach...I thought they couldnt get better that Charlotte, but that Atlanta set looks absolutely somking. Raleigh, Phil, Jimmy and Rob playing with the ABB for Franklins was outrageous....woohoo! Cant wait till the fall, Orpheum and Beacon here I come!
One thing I forgot to say wherever I posted about this show...patchwork quilt...I had never really fully gotten into this but it was just beeeyuteeful. Delicate guitar work.. Sometimes my one criticism about this band is that they are so hot that they fill every space with sound....on this song they left some open space and left my jaw hanging. Actually, it had been hanging for about an hour by that time...
