Nice show tonight.,it was pretty mellow- nothing was totally
Over the top except comes a time. Great vocals great leads.
The first set was trying to find the grove. We didn't achieve a taste of shangri la until end of other one into hc sunshine : and then we achieved lift off surfing the jams of comes a time which was wailing nicely.

Second set looks Siiiiiiiiiiiick!!!! H>S>CAT>S>Franks..... I know that ripped!!!
Thoroughly enjoyable show. The energy wasn't huge, there were not a lot of long strong jams but also there were no train wrecks. I got a couple of songs I had been chasing for a while: Easy Wind, Cryptical and Comes A Time.
Bob's voice sounded a little thin and he was very relaxed, almost laid back (even though he sanf most of the first set) but I thought his playing was sharp.
Loved the beginning of the second set. The Watchtower was great. It over-shadowed the Other One which took too long to "come around" and when it did it was a bit anticlimactic. Here Comes Sunshine was oddly placed I thought but sounded okay. This Slipknot! was a little subdued but Comes A Time was a nice way to break it up.
Second set was short no the double encore was no real surprise but fun.
No complaints. The crowd was mellow and quiet, no big roars due to no big jams.
I was really glad I went. I knew they would play some songs I was wanting to hear. No Cumberland though -- that will likely be tomorrow with Wharf Rat.
Nice, mellow show. Not a tremendous amount of energy, but solid. Loved Comes A Time.
One thing was really weird. They set up so far back on the stage. I was second row center, and they still were far from me. And no, this is not a Beacon thing as I have seen the Allman Brothers, Gov't mule, etc many times and they never set up so far back.
Anyone have an expalnation?
@Pomo thanks for confirming what I saw/thought from pictures.
I wonder . . .
Do they very gradually move up toward the crowd over the run? To build energy from the very mellow base they set last night?
Pure speculation on my part but with these guys being consummate professionals, would not surprise me if that is their master plan.
I saw Return to Forever and Zappa Plays Zappa there last summer, and I was 4th row center- the band was ridiculously far back- not the case for ABB last month- no real explanation, but I agree the back of the stage setup sucks- it saps the energy and makes it like the boys are in a life size diorama
I went and agree the show was not anything to write home about.
Meh setlist. Why do you think they played a double encore - becasue it was a weak show and they knew it!
Comes a Time was the only highlight for me.
Hope they pickup the energy tonite.
BTW - the Allmans setup is closer on stage to the audience because they let all the ABB lemmings hang on stage behind the band during the show.
@decree, I am going back tonight, then Sunday and next Tuesday, so I can certainly see if your theory is true!
I really don't know if it makes any difference, but it is kind of disorientating and strange.
Got to the Beacon early. Many Phans looking for tickets in front of the beacon. Immediately went to the Amsterdam ale house where I saw a few tickets on offer. If you were really lucky or motivated I think you were scoring your ticket.
Firstly I liked this show far more than Wallyford. Energy levels in the beacon were high.

I walked in about 7:30 on the dot but it was not EZ. There were 100's of Phans like me meeting friends etc. who were hard pressed on timing. Walked in to the opening jam and the sound was fair. Got really concerned but it was shortlived as, like Wallyford, they dialed it in fairly quickly. Unfortunatley the tune itself was a wee bit lackluster. Doing that rag was a good pick me up and the sound got beter. It appeared JK was struggling at first but like the sound found a groove. In fact that groove became evident with EZ wind as it got all the phans rocking. Now Phil was not his usual today. He appeared like some stated under the weather. It may be why Bobby was more up front and taking a lead role vocally which was nothing short of stellar on "Looks like rain". JK also came out with very familiar riffs something from the early 80's. Really liked that as I did the "Good lovin". Rocking tune and it was a rare first set pull for me. He's gone started and I anticipated a huge jam but it never came. Was underwlming for me. I picked off Cassidy in the tune up and was thinking it could be a monster tune but I was seriously wrong. It lacked integrity, cadence and the jamming that I was hoping for especially as we all knew it was gonna end the set. The high lites for me were Doin' That Rag, Easy Wind, Looks Like Rain,Good Lovin'. All in all thought the first set was fair at best. JK, bobby and russo carried the band this set. Phil was not a huge factor. Was suprised at how "in the background" Chimenti was and his solos were sorely missed. Was scratching my head but was not shocked as a trade mark of Furthur is generally a slow/laid back start. No complaints here. Its the nture of this beast.
Set II was a different kettle of fish entirely.

Right out of the gate Aligator took the crowd by the throat. Unrelentless in its effort to grasp and thrash. This was JK leading the way, every step of the way. Cryptical ws a mesh of Phil, Bobby and JK interweaving in and out of a spacey centrifuge of Jam, energy and poise. Watchtower was huge and converted this show into high energy. It was like the band suddenly realized they were in New York and the Phans were not settling for mediocrity as they got in set I. The energy and flow contined with a strong Other One, which short but sweet, was done very well. The transition back in to cryptical was sweet. Here comes sunshine was played so well. It was one of the best I had seen in recent yers going back 10 years. Not kidding. It was lovely and marvelous at the same time. Help on the way>slipnot, were good and an excellent intro to a monster Comes a time. this tune being mellow gave the crowd a "moment to reflect" on there strange trip and the bus ride we all have been enjoying for year. The moment was short lived as the jam to follow was nothing short of a spacey wonderment and testament to what the band can do when focused. The band poised for a moment and went right back in to Slipknot where russo gain had time to shine. A mellowed wind down and moment of posie again gave the Phans moments to wonder what was next. I remember asking a few if the band were gonna follow up with franklins or end it and to our applause the band roared in to a franklins. Simply Good Stuff.
Doner rap was a moment that phil took advantage of to comment on the " New Beacon" and the "New York" crowd. The encore was good and Was real nice as Phil was happy to be back in the big Apple at the start of what may be a legendery run. OH yes....At the end of the rap Phil said we hve more music for you as opposed to saying we are gonna play one more for you. This lead to a double encore that was more than the usual. I really liked set II. It was a great way to start this run. I look forward to more shows at the beacon. Hope to see many of you there.

From what I recall from a few years ago, it looks like they took out a couple of rows of seats and extended the lip of the stage. I think it was part of the big renovation/overhaul so they could accommodate larger productions (Cirque du Soleil, etc...).
