Wasn't that fun last night? Thanks so much to TaperRob for the awesome share!
yes indeed it was!!! multiple thanks TaperRob for sharing the music w/all of us at home--your B'day celebration was quite fine!
Up in the rotation for tonight: Scarlet > Fire, Unbroken Chain, The Eleven, Truckin'
Through 4 shows this tour there have been no songs repeated. Rarest song has been Built To Last (sixth time played).
The current rotation:

Hope we have stream as high quality as last night's TaperRob's, tonight. I guess the Rob is actually doing high quality recording and sending the feed into a smartphone w/ustream app. Best I've heard. It would be nice to have a decent video to go along with it to complete the whole experience, but I guess beggars can't be choosers. I hope to be able to do a little video broadcasting later this week myself. (Thur & Fri) Party on Couchheads!
Tonight im hoping for a Scarlet-Fire, Unbroken Chain, Loser, Wharf Rat, and Cumberland, one of those would be great. Im so excited its going to be an awesome show!
Hows about a Tenn Jed, full WRS and maybe a nice Dancin' to keep my bonez shakin~
I gotta say - the Beacon was MELLO last night - lotsa of pat downs @ the door - but once inside it seems it was all good. Security didn't seem to 'hinder concert enjoyment' at all, and overall seemed very tollerant of the level on enjoyment.
Very Very packed - I didn't see any tix outside; and it was pretty tight inside.
TaperBob is the man..Mellow is right Gtrips ,hope they get the sound straightened out.I also hope when they pull out the NYC Shakedown they are in the groove.I think they have a hard time w/such a small venue but once they get it right they are going to blow that old building down. thats right, blow that building down.Phil would you please speak with Bob about sharing the vocals?Have fun kids, glad to hear they aren't hindering concert enjoyment!down w/the nitrous ox mafia. They rip up the fabric of a very enjoyable experience.
Good call on Boby sharing the vocals. Yesterday's first set was like a Weir festival. I wish the backup singers would sing Cassidy with Bob, Sunshine would nail that one!
Oh Adam, I knew you missed me! Can I sleep at your place for the Mann show? Can I bring my Bloodhound? I'll make french toast and sausage in the morning. After we 'tie one on' of course.

Great show last night...looking for a stream link pretty please...saw my first show in 89 and can't stop rockin
If anyone knows the band please tell phil to help speed up bobby time, (tempo), turn up john's guitar, the keyboards are louder in solos which is not normal. ps - don't let bobby play the slide,
otherwise have a great show
you are too funny HOUNDER, stupid newbie!
>ps - don't let bobby play the slide
Funny! I remember a moment at a Red Rocks show during a Bobby slide attack where a friend appeared out of nowhere and said, "Ain't nowhere a man can hide when Bobby plays that rasty slide." We all cracked up and he disappeared again. The slide attack, of course, remained.
Fortunately for all of us, Bobs slide work has improved over the years!
Thanks Gary... that really made me laugh!!!
any evidence of streamage?
I see no such evidence. Still time for hope though.

TaperRob is my freakin hero! That man has soul and generosity. Bless you TR! And happy belated b-day. Thank you
Over the years, if I paid attention, there have been times where I was able to "feel" the energy of the shows from far away. If I was familiar with the venue I felt like I could dance/meditate myself into the show astrally. It seemed to work on some level. The streams have sort of changed that for me, in that now, my natural laziness just wants to listen to a live stream because it is easier to get into the energy and more "audio-ly" satisfying than meditation alone.
So thanks Taperrob!

Rob you are the man. Sounds great. Thanks a lot!
HOUNDER, have you finished watching Silence Of The Lambs yet?
I agree with phunky. Still missing something. Jeff is the only standout so far tonight. Exerybody else seems under volumed even when they are soloing.
I'm in the front row of the lower balc slightly on phil side. Sounds a little weird, i was center floor row g padt night. The sounds a little different because of location but phil seemed to be rockin a little more last night.
Saw the first incarnation of this band play rueben and cherise at the highline ballroom two or three years ago with absolutely rockin' guitar and it sounded grate.
Saw phil and friends in denver last month and they rocked, fix the sound and they are great, not sure why they can't agree on sound
Thanks once again Taperrob!
A day late and a dollar short... Happy Birthday Taper Rob!!! Thank you for what you dew. See you on Friday the 13th!

Bro', as a defender of the faith you know I hate to agree with statements like that. Even when they have merit...
...but then, shows always are harder to fully hear when you aren't actually in the room.
I've heard of pacing yourself but WTF? Where is the oomph?

My only unbroken chain was at Jerry's last show in Chicago in 95...as happy as I was to finally get it then...this is the way I had always dreamed....I'll take this show any night of the week and happy to be able to hear it here in Ohio tonight.
I'll take a third of the Quaalude.
gary, it does sound like they found whatever was missing earlier, but it still has a by-the-numbers feel to it. No black t-shirt music here tonight.

@dave mcgrath...we are listening in ohio too! columbus...were at boston and ct...listening here. totally missing our furthur shows live!!
I've gotten the impression that this band, more than other family bands, rides the energy of the crowd. If the crowd does not bring it, the band doesn't seem to have it. Shows I've been at where the crowd was 'ready to dance' fully rocked. Shows I've seen where the audience was waiting to be entertained had some good moments, but never achieved liftoff. Or so I've thought.

Oh how I am now waiting for a live eleven....

Since the Carrier Dome show in 82, they keep giving me something new I want ...so I keep coming back..even though it took this Furthur band to bring me back from a very long hiatus!
Soooo nice to catch the stream live from a hotel in Billings. Just after a big Montana sized steak. Your rock TaperRob! Thanks
Shining a little Lovelight my way, beautiful. Thanks!!
I'm sorry for being so down on these guys.I've been seeing them since '77.Start out strong then peter out.Rush the stage!
Taperrob many thanks for streaming the show. Getting shut out this run and still hoping to get a ticket I really am grateful brother. All you complainers if you think the show is a yawner don't listen.
Class of 78 here, which means I saw my share of nights when JG phoned it in too.

Class of '79 here, and me too.

I know everyone is entitled to their opinion, but this show had a lot of energy. Especially the Second Set. I was there. Phil was actually bouncing up and down during Chain. His bass was absolutely shaking the walls.
I am not a newbie. I saw Jerry in his prime. I have seen Furthur about 20 times. While at times the band was a bit off, especially in the first set and I was disappointed by the Eleven, which normally is one of my favorite songs, overall this was a fine show.
Inside the Beacon, that Unbroken Chain > The Eleven > Lovelight was awesome! And the ovation for Phil before his organ donor speech seemed huge to me.
I'll take tonight's show over virtually anything from '92-'95.
KK, What did you think of the show? H2
Overall I thought the show was good. The second set was a bit chopped up with 4 very separate and discernable segments

New Speedway Boogie
Cumberland Blues

Fire On The Mountain
Dear Prudence

Brother Esau always was and still is a bathroom break song. Judging from the crowd that hit the Loo, right behind me, I would venture a guess that many others agree with that sentiment.
I was second row dead center. I went to Wallingford and
The last two beacon shows. I saw the GD 99 times from '87-95 and I've seen easily 250 combinations of PF rat dog and Furthur. So I'm not new to this music. That is my background so when I say this show had great energy I know what I'm saying. The show was overall stellar energy- bob and Phil laughing with each other and the band seemed like they were having fun. That Esau was the first since 1987 or so!!
our group was all together up close great time. The security was bummin me out a bit. It's not easy to smoke massive amounts of marijuana which is what I like to do at shows.
If you at texting in the zone all show then you probably were tired. Great time in my book with very well played show. This show was the best of the last 3 shows which I saw.

I just want to say that i always appreciate the zoners on here for keeping my head stuffed with the most recent updates and informed critiques that they all share. There are as many opinions about what makes the dead great/not so great as there a fans of the band. I Love Phil!!! Monday night was so much hotter than i expected for the first night- great energy at the show- why wouldn't there be at the beacon?!? I couldn't had guessed the setlist if i tried. I prob would've guessed a show more like this one- looking forward to 6 more shows (watching setlists from home), monday was my only beacon outing, but i hope to c u all in big oak next week. how can i get a stream- i'm really not that savvy with computers so i never tried.
Where in Philly are you Chuck? Are you going to The Mann shows? All you have to do to get a stream is click on the link and turn up your speaker on your computer.
The link is 'live'.
Keep those in person reviews coming.
From a distance, was hard to discern what the energy level in the room was.
Furthur has blown my socks off a few times, and had me sitting down and yawning others. Funny how that works. Glad to hear there were some socks blown off in person.
Looking forward to the tapes to get another listen.
I apologize for my negativity last night.I forget how lucky I am To be hearing the shows for free I am Grateful.I am goin to try and concentrate on the good stuff instead of the lackluster stuff maybe it's the stream. But thank God for taperbob I truly appreciate your effort to spread the music, you deserve alot of credit,THank you.
@Decree. Following up from yesterday, they set up way back on the stage again last night. Someone posted that the reason is because otherwise they couldn't hear themselves because of the reverberations.
I don't buy it. I have seen Steely Dan live at the Beacon and they set up normal, and there is nobody on earth more anal in seeking a perfect sound than Becker and Fagen. Also, as you probably know, the Allmans have been playing multiple night gigs there for years. If there was a musical reason for setting up way in the back, I think by now they would have discovered it.
Maybe Weir just doesn't like to share his spit with New Yorkers!
On a separate note, I don't know it sounded on the stream, and maybe it was just personal to me, but I physically was feeling Phil's bass last night. He just filled the entire place with his bass during the second set and at times I was actually giddy at how powerful it sounded. He is so worth the price of admission all by himself!!
Looking forward to going back Sunday and Tuesday.
1st set was worst I've seen except golden road....everything after truckin was a KEEPER..loved the 2nd set...ESau and dear prudence were both great...was orch 2 row k...sound was soft until 2nd set...
and BTW...STFU PEOPLE...NO ONE WANTS TO HEAR YOUR STUPID FUCKING CONVERSATION...TALK LATER
Hi Howard. Great hanging out last night. I really liked the show. Both sets in fact. The rear lodge seats where we sat are fair in respect to sound which is why I was bouncing all over.
High Lites for me were:
Golden Road
Born Cross Eyed
Ramble on Rose
Loser
Pride of Cucamanga
Rubin & Cherise
II:
New Spdwy Boogie
Cumberland
My Bro Esau
Scarlet > Fire
Dear Prudence
Unbrkn Chain
The 11
The first set 4 me was the best of the three shows so far. (Wallyford, Beacon 4/9)
Oh yes........Great meeting a few MVP zoners last night H1, Sandiegohead,Cyote, Riggerdude, DZ(keep your shoes on please) Brooklyn Jimmy, Poz and the many I failed to mention. (My head still hurts)
hoping to hang again.
Great show, highlights were Rubin and Cherise, Cumberland, Scarlet>Fire, and Unbroken Chain. The sound was a little messed up for the first set but they definitely came together and preformed a nice rocking show. Thank you Furthur!
And no Katz Under Stars, unfortunately I'm not a psychic but if I was I would have still picked last night to go to because they played pretty much evreything I was hoping for!
Hey can you tapers please post the shows from the past nights onto the internet archive when you get a chance? I was looking for them and can't find any
This band has it's ups and downs. Our seats were fabulous (front two) which may have helped elevated the experience. But I thought set II was 5 stars.
To Howard and others Re: Brother Essau, it was the first one played (according to my research) since 10-3-87 Shoreline when they closed the first set with Essau, Birdsong, Music. If it is a bathroon break song for anyone out there, you have not had that opportunity in 25 years!! Great song and so happy to hear Bobby bust that one out! Been wanting to hear it since my GD days as I never caught it. I am 41 now so its been quite a wait. Next bust out needs to be "If I had the World to Give". That has not been played since 1978.
Great show with old friends and great vibe! super time and super songs. Well executed and dynamite overall. I guess it depends where your thoughts are and who you are with, what experiences you might be drawing from that make the show a work of art, no matter what they do or play. Cheers all!
From our perspective (Row BB right in front of Kadlicek with great views of the entire band) the show was a winner. Sound in first set was a bit erratic and could have been louder overall, but in the second set things were well dialed in. (We couldn't really hear the PA from where we were.)
Anyway, as a 48-year-old who saw his first show in 1977 and has been on the bus all along) I found it an excellent show. It remains hard for me to hear this music without Garcia (and for me Kadlicek's sound lacks some power and attack), but last night was pretty fine evening of music. Good song selection (that Brother Esau was an odd choice but it was pretty solid; Lazy River Road? Meh) and nicely played, fully executed transitions that more than made up for some somewhat unfocused moments.
Weir seemed tired to me. Last fall at MSG I really enjoyed his playing, and while he had his moments last night I didn't get the best of his playing. Kadlicek played some tasty music, and Chimenti kicked some serious ass. His grand piano and organ work were awesome.
Yay! The the shows are on the archive, I was just typing in the wrong thing. Thank you tapers, and thank you Furthur
what is that stuffed animal that was on top of Phil's tower of sound?
It was a monkey giving the middle finger
http://archive.org/search.php?query=furthur%202012
The first night of the Wang theater
Thanks, Andres. It looked like some kind of monkey but it was very hard to see.
Ya, I couldn't see it at all last night because I was way up in the balcony but I just saw a picture of it off of the Furthur website. Its weird
To Howard and others Re: Brother Essau, it was the first one played (according to my research) since 10-3-87 Shoreline when they closed the first set with Essau, Birdsong, Music. If it is a bathroon break song for anyone out there, you have not had that opportunity in 25 years>>
Don't go by what I said, I'm sorry I missed the last one and hitting the Loo at Shoreline. Last night, I hit the head right after the song started, no line. I took care of business and headed back in my seat. By that time the line was out the door, into the hall and wrapped around the wall 35 people deep. I might have been coincidence or just maybe others felt similarly.
I guess the people screaming for Esau must've came in their pants, lol
The monkey was a stuffed gorrilla-- King Kong who was holding a Barbie doll. The way the speakers were stacked looked like the WTC. Only in NY!
By the way I just wanted to say that all three shows I had seen had some disjointed segways and transitions and vocal flubs. Not many but some. That is one of the trademarks of this band. It demonstrates the vulnerability of the band and I like it. This is a result of taking chances and that I respect and admire at the same time.
^^ Its also the result of Bobby being Bobby^^
You would think by this point, Bob Weir would remember the lyrics to Truckin'? And even when he does remember the lyrics, he forgets where he is, he came very close to repeating a stanza. It's endearing to a point. Even my nephew, at his first show ever, got a chuckle out of that flub.
He repeated stanzas on other songs to make up for it.
Thanks for the king kong with a barbie doll explanation. This now makes sense
By the way, Death Don't instrumental has not been mentioned yet. Soounded like it for a few minutes around the eleven. They definately played a few bars and I was waiting for the lyrics but they never came. That would have been cool.
stream was awesome. thanks taperrob!
Yes, very true
SHS,re; Bobby in the mix. I was at Wang and at times I felt the same thing about Bobby's playing and not there, it ended up being more the sound system. When I listend to the download it was there and very good. Funny, I always listen for him.
