Deja vu all over again....
At least you can't complain that I started a thread for last night - it was a "no show".
I see Phil Phreaks standin' on the corner of 77th street lookin' for 'a miracle'!
AND THANKS AGAIN TAPER ROB!!!
heading out to the train soon!!! 3 nights!! woot! woot! Thanks for the 2 night couch tour Taper Rob----
Tonight is our first show of the run — so exciting! What time have they been hitting the stage?
7:35; get inside by 7:20 to avoid the crush
Hoping for an Iko-Iko tonight.
My 2nd show of this run.....syked.!!...just got a floor seat!!!!
Got a feeling their gonna come out swinging with a super high-energy show.
1st 2 shows have been good but have been lacking the high energy tightness.
Mass. head looking for 1 or 2 tix to next Tues or Wed Beacon show.
(had a blast at Friday's show and was completely gobsmacked by Sat's 2nd set. laconic, lyrical, at the same time so focused - more power to them...)
And yet another Big! Appreciation!! to Taper Rob for all you do and the quality you bring to it.
Thanks.
Iko would be great! also looking for a Wharf Rat..
hopin they turn up the heat a bit tonight, last two nights have been decent but something something was definitely missing, and it wasn't just jerry
Do u think they'll do repeats tonight?

Ahh. 1987 Spring Tour. My first. Now that was an experience.
Bobby just needs himself some hah-mones, like the lady said in Fried Green Tomatoes. I'm sure that's all that's causing him to drag the tempos nowadays.
peppy SOF.
I liked the Radio City Elvis version, but this is groovin.

Best set this spring?
setbreak idea: i'm in OH, but i think the timing should be good for most of the eastern states. The international space station will be visible moving across the southwestern sky for 6 minutes begining at 9:01 pm tonight
…Interesting song selection for the first set, I would like to extend thanks for the stream. Btw …rangers up 3-0
Am I right...were there 5 cover tunes in the 1st set?
Thanks Mojo...
Here in Northeast Ohio I was able to see in a little clearing in the cloudy night sky the space station slip by. Very cool.
> were there 5 cover tunes in the 1st set?
I count 4 covers...

Taperrob+Philzone=Good Love!!
No just 1 really, desolation row. I wouldn't call around and cold rain covers, I mean cold rain was on their debut album in '67 even though sure it was written I think by Roy Orbison.
CRS is a traditional
Wow what a first set !!!!
Thanks Andre Sounds good!!!!!!!!!
You're right Mike...there were only 4 covers.
Brendan, I can somewhat see your point with 'traditional songs', but Around & Around is a Chuck Berry tune, no?
Cold Rain and Don't Ease are old jug band tunes been around for years. Desolation Row is Dylan of course. R-squared not original but not sure origin
Yeah.....BK.
Around & Around is absotively Chuck Berry.
Around and Around was Chuck Berry's "B" side of Johnny B. Goode. Written and recorded late 50s
Does anybody know if the following tunes have been in regular rotation; Don't Ease Me In,
Desolation Row, Ship of Fools?
What time did the first set end?
Love Del McCoury's version of Cold Rain & Snow
Set II:
Jack Straw
dont get me wrong i love this band and will continue to listen, but this just isn't the furthur i know the past few nights
Jack Straw...nice, and I was thinking they could have gone into The Wheel or even Dark Star out of the intro jam.

TRob~gratitude.
just ket john sing this
shake it
looks like the real heads are still hangin on..haha...whats all this malarkie about slow set's and BS....valid point that these guys deliver EVERY SINGLE NIGHT! Do you really have any idea how draining that is emotionally and physically!? Especially for guys that are in their 70's and partied more than 1/2 their lives...Additionally, don't you know by now the GD build up for set 1, get their groove down and find their sound and mix, then basically shred and crush down on 2nd set...Or they lay down some sweet tunes like they did tonight, Althea, and a big China>Rider Sandwich with a rockin good Passenger and Sugaree closer...thought this set was might fine...
amen brian
trobitude ~~~~~ picked up an ran nice china doll.
strange list tonight - with the night off they should have been expected to bring it harder than 4/10....however list means nothin all...all bout how they played. want to hear some nice JK? check this out
http://archive.org/details/JK2012-03-02.Djesben.sb d.flac
Anyone at show, like me, think that Weir was farged up tonight?
Desolation Row? My goodness...NO! I was really hoping that one would stay with the moth balls. What a waste of a good ten minutes of a show. FILLER. Thankful I wasn't there to see that set. That's an awful looking cluster of songs. Interesting looking 2nd set.
Bobby was fried to a crisp in the first set (BobinaBucket), but came out finger licking good in the 2nd.. (question - did he ever change his guitar tonight..?)actually it was JK who absolutely stole the show (with Jeff C. a close 2nd)... Beacon-burning solo's on every song during the 2nd set... J. Straw.. Althea....Rider being amazing, Sugaree even topping it...
it IS weird that the band is far back on the stage, but as a result they have a river of color in front of them that is at times mesmerizing...
Musically not the best Furthur show I've been to, but certainly one of the most fun. That special beacon feeling was in the air all night. Sat in the last row of the loge, sights were good but sound was just ok. Everyone up and dancin all night and security took the night off. HUGE jack straw and strong bucket to start off the second set and lots of crowd pleasing tunes. Could have done without sugaree but no complaints other than that. Took bobby the entire first set to find his groove, but overall a nice up tempo show. Back tonight for more,
Sam L
Bobby was a full mess in the first set
I usually don't get up front too much these days, but when 3rd row presented itself, I had to jump at the chance. In the late 70's thru the 80's, I'd always climb into position on Jerry's side just to watch the interaction and banter. So last night, after seeing this formation 15 or so times, I was really excited and wasn't disappointed. While Bobby and Phil certainly led the band, Bobby was bailed out of almost every song by John and Phil. It looked like Bobby was driving the car, but was severly impaired. Phil was in full control of "direction", nodding to Sunshine and Jeff when they forgot their cue. The band seemed to thrive when Bobby would point to John to take control...John would then share with Jeff and they'd take off. Jack Staw was key and they both shined. Don't get me wrong, I love Bobby's contributions...hell, I forget things all the time and it's always fun to see which lyrics he'll sing on any given night, but sometimes energy is sacrificed. On the whole, it was a great night for me and the Mrs and really enjoyed all our home town folks around us !! Enjoy the rest of the run ...oh, The Beacon needs to open the front doors (as well as the back) for smoking...intermission in the lobby was worse than 50 people in an elevator :0)
btw - look me up on facebook for pix. I got some pretty good ones eventhough they were 20ft back
During the first set I was literally straining to hear the band -- cupping my ears. Good God Bob must be a glutton for punishment...Desolation Row, really? After Around & Around and Don't Ease Me In? I'm glad he tried a Dylan cover I guess but I couldn't hear a word of it. A band was playing on stage but a song didn't come out. It was weird. I liken the Mexicali Blues to the Three Stooges after Curly's stroke. I actually like the song but it just sounded off.
There were, however, a few nice moments in the first set. I thought Cold Rain and Snow was well done. There was a nice jam in Half Step. The speeded up Ship Of Fools was great -- finally a song the was moving FORWARD! I thought John did a fine job on it.
The second set was better than it looks on paper. They seemed to fix the sound problems or at least to me, it was crisper. It didn't have the muffled low end that plagued much of the first set. There was good crowd energy in the second set as the band seemed to reclaim their sound and started playing with more fluidity and energy.
I imagine they will swing for the fences this weekend after a fairly uninspired set list last night.
Transcendant music..Phil's tone stil echoing through my soul...amazing...vocal volume not up to the thundering rhythms Phil and Joe laid down. Jeff is amazing and gets better ever show.
I loved the show and can't wait for Saturday!
it took me up until Mexicali Blues to catch up with Bobby's buzz, but after that, it was a smokin' show ;-) Everyone on their feet singing I Know You Rider was probably the highlight - just a a beautiful feeling in the air during that song. I think this one is worth downloading, especially the 2nd set - some of JK's solos were mind bending!
>They seemed to fix the sound problems or at least to me, it was crisper
Its the 4th show, if they cant dial in the sound...FIRE the soundman...Tuesday's 1st set was way too low also
Jerseyjoe.....You are 100% correct, to these ears anyway. sound was really sharp right out of the gate.
Even though the song selection in the first set was strange(unique) I thought they played them very well. New and improved arrangements and variations of the tunes were "SPOT ON" AND ADDED NEW DIMENSIONS TO THE MUSIC..
I LOVED THE SHOW!!!!!! SONG SELECTION IN SET II WAS ALSO KINDA STRANGE BUT I CAN NOT BE HAPPIER WITH HOW THEY PLAYED THEM.
EACH SHOW, FOR ME, HAS BEEN BETTER THAN THE PREVIOUS.
Phucking Phil does it again and again.
this show= confused Bobby, strange selection and little energy..nobody bats 1000..... ;9
with all the talk of Dyslexia and Bob not feeling well, it sure is an odd choice to play a 20,000 word song like Desolation Row. I realize most of the illness talk is nothing more than speculation and rumor, but still...what a strange choice (and an awful choice at that).
Bobby's annual New York meltdown in the first set...
