NYC, Here we come. Two nights of pure heaven cause Furthur is gonna be Peakin' At The Beacon.
Does anyone feel like this band might have sounded better (different- how?) with Phil on stage right the way he always was?
just curious
No
YOWZA YOWZA YOWZA
No Mike. I'm calling a post hoc ergo propter hoc.
I think the band has sounded better, yes, but not because they've switched sides.
These extended runs are not as solid, IMHO, as the shorter 3 show stints, a la RCMH, Fox, et cetera.
That being said, I'm looking forward to a two night stint at the Beacon, starting tonight!
need a single ticket for Wed if anyone has an extra
Need two for tonite...
Can't wait for Wed nite!! Hoping they blow it out for the finale.
shakedown opener tonight or tmrw
"Taxman" opener? :-)
oh yeaaaaaaa!!!! just like new york city...
probably early to ask, but will there be a stream tonight?
What time has the music been starting for these shows? Been out of town so tonight my first of this run.
Music has been starting anywhere from 7:35 to 7:50, so don't be late!
tx Fred...
How about a song for Levon tonight...
just like New York City..........
I so hope Taper Rob is treating us again tonight! much appreciation to you for doing this-it has truly been a blessing--

We r Blessed by the best!!! Thanx Trob. From ur Phans in West (almost heaven) Virginia.
I love the opener! Clapton & JGB reminiscing.
Phil could do the old Derek and Dominoes song Keep On Growing like back in the 80s. But rigYht now Bobby's like a Rolling Stone. Love to wade in the stream...it's gonna be a good night!

No Dylan songs up there as far as I can see, Andres.
been reading posts the last week, guess I may as well jump in...
30 Furthur shows as of last Sunday, and it looks like I can't catch a Foolish Heart (or China Doll) for trying...
Dylan did cover Peggy-O, but it's not his tune.
This one's for TR!! Thank you for a real good time!!
Ops I thought Its All Over Now meant Its Over Now Baby Blue, still a lot of Dylan songs this tour though

Row Jimmy, nice!
Nice show thus far diggin the song selection ...row jimmy!
they've only done 6 Row Jimmy's before now, and only one It's All Over Now...
I understand the commercials are a necessary evil when running the stream.
Monday night, there weren't any.
Did I get lucky then or am I doing something wrong now?
This Jimmy is pretty hot. I stepped out for a quick smoke at the start of it and the music just dragged me back in by the ears.
That's the way it's been in town ...
hi Andy, It's me Dee. Have a great time tomorrow.
Wow Row Jimmy is really such an amazing song. Thanks Trob

Thank you taperrob for sharing the music.

Nice set. Dragging smokers by the ear! Not the best Music Never Stopped, but a nice set overall.
Just thinkin' out loud, and certainly no complaint, but would have been cool if they encored with Music tomorrow night...
just jumped on, how the first set sounding?
gimme some lovin opener comin
ramble on...
I'm going to call that a tasty first set, with good energy from the start, solid playing and vocals, and more than a couple of moments where the music took flight.
haven't got the chance to listen to friday and saturday yet, but from what i read sounds like friday is the show of the run so far
Friday's show was a smoker. The Box of Rain was the most jammed out version I think I've ever heard, and most of the 2nd set was just fuckin nuts.
Midnight Hour closer?...
Friday was unbelievable. incredible energy, thoughtful setlist, great crowd
Taperrob...if you get to read this, a big thank you for the stream!

ah - missed the stage call! I have the grandson here tonight, so it is an odd balancing act. "Twixt 5 and the Beacon.'
This sounds promising though...
well, I don't think Let It Grow is next...please God, don't let it be "Time", that's the only thing I really wanted to hear...

real real mellow again, reminding me of early last week.

Midnight Hour closer?...
my connection is sputtering for this - makes it a very choppy listen!
>makes me think that there's a Lost Sailor > Let it Grow pending out there somewhere
Interesting call. could be fun!
Stream is in the rapids...
same here
...and gone.

stream is gone?
Ouch! This is painful. Come back, stream!
It's back. Sounds like WR still.
and were back
patience got us back last time...and yes! Taperrob is da man!
ouch!
Mike said "sounds like WR still." I read that as Weather Report and my mind and ears went out of synch for a sec. Funny!

Wowza
missed the segue thanks to the House of the Rising Sun...
can anyone say Terripin
Yes! Let my inspiration flow...
sounds like a mellow night, but you gotta admit this is a nice grouping of songs (even if the stand-alone WRS doesn't work too well, IMO)
Playing Terrapin must be taking on a new meaning for Phil.
...for Levon...
JR...it was the WRS that led into this great set
Like I said, I like the overall flow a lot, but not a big fan of separated pairs, i.e. Saint without Sailor, WRS 1 without WRS 2. Still, would have loved to be in the house for this one, much more so than Sunday night...
>>>..it was the WRS that led into this great set
I didn't catch the WRS, but it certainly set the tempo for Saint, as well as some of the segue jamming.. not that ah'm saying it ain't tasty.
...really JR? I thought Sunday night was killer!
LLR
'Course, I have five year old distracting me tonight - kinda changes things!
I hear what you're sayin', but it's nice when they switch the order up ... it keeps things fresh.
I know, a lot of people seemed to like Sunday. I rocked out to the first set, but wasn't feeling most of the second.
Tuesday's seemed like a good pick for this run, would have traded the Monday and Sunday I saw for the two Tuesdays...but hey, I got to see Saturday from the front row, so not complaining. Hoping for a strong closer tomorrow.

Yeah, this doesn't hold a candle to the KSM on Friday.
Fucking brilliant, as my Irish friends say.
a suite sandwich?
I'm agreein' with the Irish
OK Cecil..."just pick u up yer jaw now...", it's jus' the neighbors...

hmm- another interesting pairing. seemed to be a bit harsh of a flow change to me...I was listening for the Playing or WRS...
...and I still think John should sing this one.
I like hearing Bob Weir.
...the last time...???...
I would have preferred John as well, but Bobby's doin' a nice job.
Bob's doing a nice job on this tonight. The "Jerry" tunes tonight fit together perfectly...

Bob nails SOTM, no doubt. He brings a quality unmatched, one that has brought a tear to my eye on occasion. I still think John should sing it though!
Hell...I think John should sing all of the Jerry tunes. Nothin' against Bob though.
encore(s)?
Did I just hear a Haay!?!

show sounds incredible tonight for sure for LEvon..I think Bob sings great man...after all fuck dude, he's been signing these tunes for 40 years

Thoughts of Levon. Has the band quit the stage? I hope they're not coming back with Playin' reprise unless it's something ridonkulous.
((Levon))
Only 3 cover tunes so far tonight, and most everything else is from the GD catalog.
Weight encore?
Hell yeah lay it down Phil. Here we gooo.

Thanks Taper Rob ! again and again . I wish i knew how to stream .I would do it for the wanee fest Woo Hoo One more day!
THANK YOU taper Rob! Very Kind of you to do the extra work you do for us, so we can listen to this Historic Music. It might even crap space at times and take away from the show. So thanks I hope the kind karma overflows your back like a E waterfall.
This is such special music i dont want to miss a night Phil or Bobby take a stage.
Thanks Bro!
What a great show tonight. I was at CT thenmon, tues, sat, sun,. I still liked last week on Tuesday the best. I think the band is really getting sort of punchy- they have a bounce in their step. Highlight for me to iChat was mighty quin. They James it out real nice. It was not a purfunctory tune
Terrapin was stellar and UJB my first of tour
I was somewhat vexed by the WRS saint but it was a very well do e transition. Every song was well played. I've seen rat dog a lot and like money for gasoline. All over now was the only tube with little significance. The opener of afteridnigjt was a fine surprise. I would have liked the sugar mag after ujb then a scarlet ssdd sandwich like the 6-15-76 show.
Looking forward to the final night. Oh and I bought a 70 dolar or h
ok i guess im first review....sat in 8th row center...sounded great.....weir was alittle slow on loose lucy and music no stop but good...flubbed 1 verse on loose lucy...then dropped the ball for 5 seconds on weather report...but 2nd set ripped....loved it...dont want to ramble...great time good people and good music...loved it...no hate...and terrapin ripped and wharf rat and a killer sugar mags...thank you gratefulbillnj
Evening folks! Hope you got to enjoy the show!

"Beacon is now one more bummer palace unwelcoming to the remaining Deadheads and the cosmic portals they come seeking."
http://blogs.villagevoice.com/music/2012/04/furthu r_beacon_theater_april_17_review.php
jesse jarnow wrote a very lame review of last night's show on the village voice blog....what a negative guy... he makes all these rude comments about practically everyone in the band...stfu jesse...you have no idea what you are talking about....it is amazing how people like him get a voice...probably got the job cuz daddy knew someone...anyways i was 5th row center and it was well done.. little slow in the first set but solid and the second set rocked...people were pumped and pleased when it was over...the uncle johns was special for me...always have loved that song...anyways one more night...it is always bittersweet for me...i realize how much i care for some folks and just like the song says...im gonna miss you when youre gone...but we'll meet again in a few months and so it's all good...have fun tonight everybody...cant wait to see you all once again xo
Glad that wanker is not going tonight lol Buzzkill
"During the set-closing "The Music Never Stopped"—which contained the first of several pieces of breathtaking group improvisation—"
"Even with the lack of boisterousness on the other side of the unbreached fourth wall, a short jam in the "The Music Never Stopped" served as a quick reminder to why the band might be worth seeing: a time-warping free trio dialogue between Lesh's darting lead bass, Fake Jerry's quizzical Garcia-isms, and drummer Joe Russo's light-handed cymbal-work."
"John Kadelcik, late of elaborate Dead tribute act Dark Star Orchestra) possesses an uncannily elaborate understanding of the Dead's improv language and acted as a silver thread through Lesh's bass melodies. Kadelcik and keyboardist Jeff Chimenti passed phrases back and forth, seemingly the dominant voices in the mix, but the jams seemed to sputter and lose shape whenever Weir adjusted his perennially shrill rhythm guitar tone. The brilliance came throughout the set in small pools: a deep zone in "Playing in the Band" that voiced itself into a liquid minor-key shuffle, a short and far-out jam in "Terrapin" where the Dead never had one before, the jams never extending too far beyond the five-minute mark."
Sounds about right to me, it certainly wasn't all critical. Most critics aren't going to be as forgiving as regular attendees.
I thought it was a pretty fair review, obviously he isn't a die hard but he just as obviously knows what makes these guys special and made a few good points in that direction. Given the criticism I've been hearing from folks at the shows I don't think anything he said was that far off. The only thing that was completely off base was his comment about the plodding 80's; most of us thought that the tempos were often too fast back then, for all of the obvious reasons.
No fear in negative reviews from those that just don't get it. If you want to check out a "REAL" writer, check out Denis Hamill in the NY Post. He doesn't review shows, but writes editorials. He grew up in Brooklyn in the late 60's and writes about neighborhoods, people's interests and very often notes about great times in Prospect Park during the late sixties. Not sure if he's a head, but he has pleasantly mentioned the Dead in a postive light many times. It wasn't long ago that he wrote about the passing of Jerry and how glad he was to see the light still shining with the present set up. This is our music, our trip and it's too bad we don't have more folks like Denis. P.S. I have no affiliation to him or the Post. But there are some good guys out there.
yes, that "short and far out jam in Terrapin, where the Dead never had one before" was a real treat.. I thought the show was stellar - After Midnight was a great starter, and certainly very uptempo into Used to Love Her.
does anyone know what happened to the guy who was tripping his balls off (orchestra row 3, right side)? he started talking to a guard during the break between sets, and that's the last I saw of him (and his buddy's...)
Damn! Sounds like a fun show... woulda been my birthday show if I coulda made it.
Hey now!...any kind soul out there with an extra for tonight (Wednesday/finale)?...pleasepleaseplease help me get in the door!...
I think if I hear the knuckledragger term, "fake Jerry" one more time, my head will explode. What utter ignorance.
Far out request of the day(since the thread for today is not up) Buy a Powerball ticket for tonight-post that you did so here and bring said ticket to show, use music to affix winning numbers and share winnings w/ those that participated(+ keep the zone solvent and have the band play a gig for a charity-we pay),$2.00 to play - current jackpot 131 mil-who's in?
If you read to the end of Jesse Jarnow's review, you'll find this addendum:
"Critical bias: Halfway through six-year project to listen to (and tweet) every Dead show between 4/69 and 8/75."
Assuming that's not fiction, I'm not able to dismiss Jarnow's view as one who just doesn't get it. Also, from what I heard through the stream last night, Jarnow's assessment that "Kadelcik and keyboardist Jeff Chimenti passed phrases back and forth, seemingly the dominant voices in the mix, but the jams seemed to sputter and lose shape whenever Weir adjusted his perennially shrill rhythm guitar tone" seems to hit the mark, but that's just my 2¢...
hopefully this Viola Lee will be played in one piece
Report from first row in loge. Sound was excellent. Phil and John and Jeff in particular. Wonderful to see them communicating so much on stage. Certainly not the show that Friday was but very enjoyable.
I also agree with Mike Edwards take on Jarnow's comment on many of the Jams. Jeff and John were working and sometimes, but only sometimes, Bob stepped in wrong, including tonally.
Keeponerolling - my son and I also saw the gentleman your wrote of during the break. We too wondered about his fate.... but did not hear anything from the patrons around us.
