Soon.
hey brother.. thx 4 posting updates and notes from the shows..
find that streamer if possible.. we're all waiting.. the "out of sight" reference you posted from TXR does give us a little wiggle room for hope indeed.
have another great show - peace2ya from L.A...!!
My pleasure man. No idea who might be a stealth taper but I'm sure it will turn up here if it happens.
Doobious.......if you can....... please try your hardest to get tonight's set list and post it on the zone and at the TXR doorpost before the show.
.......or maybe not.
Not even for a free ticket.
How about a a surprise live webcast tonight from TXR?
Unfortunately it's unlikely any shows will be webcast or streamed officially any time soon. Licensing issues prevent them from charging for them, and bandwidth expense makes them prohibitively expensive to do for free...they had not realized all that was envolved when they first announced their webcast plans. Cart before the horse...
still better than the JGB taping policy. saw this in a text file for a Garcia/Saunders show and got a chuckle out of it.
Taper Talk:
-- Question - "Was Bob [Menke] friendly enough with [Steve] Parish to be allowed stage lip mic mounting?"
-- Answer - "We had no permission. We snuck the equipment in and were near the front of the line so we could get the spot. In early 1976 at Sophie's (before the veunue became Keystone Palo Alto) we tried the same thing and 2 things happened. Ramroad cut our mic cable during the first set and Parish threatened to break the 152 over our heads if he saw us trying to tape the 2nd set. Hope that answers your question."
Furthur will suck some more tonight
doobious........how can any real phan not want to have the set list in front of them before the show. Its like being a member of the band!!!!!!!! Its empowering!
Make this your pre show mission.
Anyone need a ticket for Saturday night Furthur?
- please reply via email soonish so I can make plans
thx
Nice, no spot taken.
Doobs, do you have an iPhone?
If so, all you need is the mic and then twitcasting. BOOM!!! You should be streaming this stuff man.
This pre-amp is awesome and will work with any pro mic and an iPhone or iPod Touch.
There MAY be a stream on Ustream under 6/29/12 TXR...
cool
@MICHAEL RUSSO
HAVE YOU EVER HEARD OF LEGAL PROCEDURES??!??
Doobs here is the perfect rig for you bud.
You are welcome.
Doobious, having the best info about last nights setlists, is in good standing in the community. No picking on him (until after the show is over). Just kidding. It's all good!
I'm not picking on the guy. He's A-okay in my book. He can take a good ribbing but just don't tell the guy he's wrong about anything.
Have fun tonight Doobs and the rest of the Zoners in attendance.
Starting, good luck!

Are you by any chance having trouble getting into the chatroom. I updated my java and ever since it says not certified. But had same issue on work computer.
HI TS
I'm in chat...but no one is there!
Something's messed up I think or else I've lost my membership for bad behavior....which would be way overdue.
I will try to reach the Web Wizard tomorrow.
Nah...your behavior is fine
Hats off to Jafar Thorne!
Buckle up, kids. C'ya' in Canandaigua next Friday night!
Indeed Earl!
Wow - TXR couch tour is back!
Thanks for the instruction. Have you all ever seen this band? Who's playin'?

Hi Judit! I was discussing my chatroom blockage with WW. She says no one there. You having that problem?

TS, I had to enable a Java applet and restart my browser to get in.
Hi Judit....
Thank you.
That's what I've been trying to do for a couple of days without much success. But not adept. Will keep at it.
and what do you mean you don't do well in chat?tt
boom
I think this is the reason the couch tour has been re-thunk and permanatly been put on hold.......and a wise choice it was.....for now anyway.
Hi WW. Chat moves too fast for me, and after all these years I sometimes have trouble posting when I want to. Something strange happens. About the Java applet, have you tried restarting your browser after enabling the Java applet (whatever that is)?

It is now PDWT:
Pacific Doobious Wedgie Time
Even with this sketchy quality stream the Shakedown has a nice Groove. Not rushed, strong cadence filled with enthusiasms.
Thanx to those responsible for bringing this music to me.
And a Happy Birthday to Sandiegohead sitting there at TXR. Hope you get your Celebration>St. Stephen>Viola tonight.
catch, you need therapy for the hate issue...you like what you like, others like what others like, who cares?...you have to spread hate here? No excuse. You should be ashamed! If you have nothing nice to say go to another folder. Sheesh.
Live and let live.
Ain't NO TIME to hate.
Shakedown!!!
Stream is weak. Band is laid back but in a good groove. Crowd is strong.
This laid back pace is trademark 1'st set stuff. Am sure the band will come out with there war paint on in set II.
Live...
So we're live again - right?
yes johnny
Jam...> Uncle John's Band?
right-o!
Sounds really slow to me.
The crowd is obviously singing back up or should I say upfront. They are loud in the mix and You can feel there energy..... even on this lack luster stream. Wish I was there.
Sounds like Phil is trying to speed it up a little...
I like how they're taking their time getting to MOTM

I still got it!!!
Finally... Phil!
MOTM!
oh..uh....I see Johnny made the call first.

I liked the jam. We'll see if they pick up the pace.

Don't sound half-bad (jamming-wise) to me. Quality's pretty piss poor, though. Rather be @ TXR, for sure!

My one experience in the Grate Room was that there were a lot of loud chatterers who were obnoxious (but having a great time). I'm not surprised that we can hear them over the stream.
Chatterers get all the shows.
We about to hear some good chit in about less than three minutes.
Thanks for clueing me in, JB!! Good thing I glanced at FB.

Another thing that seems rare to me is a West Coast stream and I'm really enjoying the chance to listen to an entire second set without the kids messing with me.
This seems like a bit of a different jam than they usually do at this time.
The chatterers piped down.
^^^
yeah it sounds good kinda jazzy

Thank you for the stream, Jafar!
Alex, I'd rather it the other way around, but then again, I am a fan of punk rock music, so there's that.
just drives me nuts that this shit is getting drooled over....I would be ok with it if they mage JK wear wigs and fat suits and costumes to look like Jerry and called it a nostalgia show ala the "Fab Four'.
Dreary turns into almost orgasmic,,,till the shutoff. I feel privileged with this technology.
thanks to all involved , good night.
Thanks for the STREAM!

again *** ~~ thx Jafar ***~~~ for great stream of whole show!
for those in The Bay Area with no uh, furthur intentions for sat...there are these happenins ->
New Monsoon - w/ special guest TIM CARBONE from Railroad Earth * Sat, June 30 * Brick & Mortar Music Hall, SF, CA / Doors: 8 / Show: 9
$15- $20 ~~ FREE poster and download for all advance ticket holders ->

also Mickey Hart band @ fillmore I believe
Dickie Betts and Great Southern at Marin County Fair ( passing.. for New Monsoon which is down the street from me)

But for sun nite I'll be in Marin ->
Los Lobos @ Marin County Fair
$16 / 7:30 / free fair rides and usual farm animals, etc (if you are into that, or w/kids, etc) / huge tent w chairs for show - also has nice large area for stand/dance up front, at foot of stage; pretty mellow for a county fair / ~~ and fireworks after!
http://marinfair.org/directors-message/loslobos
safe travels east to phil and furthur on tour!
then may 4 winds blow phil , Joe, and JK safely back to TXR for end of July rambles; I'm catching 2!
peace out / mahalo and aloha zoners!
No disrespect., but no one's drooling over nothing bro - we're overjoyed and content that the remaining members of The Dead who wish to participate in Furthur.. the post-Grateful Dead.. are happy and playing at the top of their game.. (for senior citizens) AND taking it FURTHUR..!!!
Did ya ever stop to think Phil and Bobby wanted someone who can channel Garcia's energy and licks to play in Furthur so they could continue in the same vibe and take off from where they left off with the Grateful Dead..?? Keeping in mind Billy and Mickey don't want to play with Furthur for their own personal reasons..??
Or is it all about what yours or our expectations are of how they should conduct this band? Maybe you could be their personal consultant and tell them this just drives you nuts - (because we don't care) - and how foolish they are and that they don't have a clue what they're doing or what they should be doing as far as guitarists go in regards to Furthur..
I mean our opinions are so much more matter of fact then theirs are.. right..?
Yes Yes Yes - we all have our own opinions and all are valid of course.. but man., can't we just respect what they're doing and offering us and return the favor with kindness in regards to bashing the members of the band..?
Jus sayin'... IMHO...
Thanks for the post, Michael. Was going to try to address Spackler's issues, but probably couldn't have put it as nicely as you just did.
Was going to suggest that Spackler tell them his thoughts about the Jerry suit and wig, since I'm sure they'd be game to give it a shot. "Personal consultant" - yes, I like that!!
Enjoy, brother.
This is the Philzone. Phil is in this band...I'll admit I was drooling all night. Great show. Too blissed out to report now...need to dream and collect my thoughts. I can say, this is the band I saw on Wednesday. What a night.
Thanks to all involved.
No kidding.. I was drooling too doobious (Happy420).. (happy drools of course..) just listening to the stream on USSTREAM - (maybe drooling is appropriate after all..!!!) lol...
That was classic vintage Dead tonight to say the least - in a nightclub atmosphere.. wow - historic stuff.
Lighten up pholks - looks like summer tour is gonna be off the hook..!!
That was classic vintage Dead tonight to say the least - in a nightclub atmosphere.. wow - historic stuff. >>>>>>>>>>>>>
I respect your right to make such comments and agree 100%
These are special days at TXR with a limited shelf life. Get out and enjoy while you can. A few years from now you just might look back at these shows and say "yes those were glorious days".
China>Rider Encore. Marvelous stuff!!!
{{ echoing posts of Michael and doobious about JK and Furthur }}
I look at it this way, Post-Jerry:
..after awhile of early Rdog, ugh..
we had early Phil+friends (I've been on-board since '98 fillmore Stanley Franks, ouch)
then some Other Ones ( interesting but not my cup o tea much )
..P+F took awhile to gel, grow, and groove, which it did!
then P+F *grew immensly* (so many great p+fs at the warfield for me ..99 thru it closing there in 08) and Ratdog, well improved. also some Mickey bands.
But..outside of P+F-
No.. One .Got Along ..from what was left of GD. Sad in a way. what would Jerry say? ;-(
Until Crusader Rabit.
The we had the {reunited} "The Dead".
( Hopeful, but .. only a few left coast shows for me. also never quite did it.)
then we got ... Furthur! (on-board since Fox debut, 8 rehearsals, most all norcal shows ).
long tours. Bobby a bit more enagaged I think! Challenging songs! yes some songs are bobby-ratdog--ized ( shake it down shake it down now) .
But did we ever get a Caution with Phil ? A vocal 'the eleven'? Estimated? terrapin SUITE? No or not much ( if I'm wrong).
So imho: I still think John K shines on his own merits in this band; he knows the catalog of songs, the changes, and can jam. And furthur has added to the GD repertoire of songs to hear, played live..that I never got to hear, played live. ( my first GD 9-3-72 boulder. then a long stretch , not again until 86 when I moved to SF; then all west coast GD and Garcia band shows)
Jerry's gone. We All Miss Him. I have 3 stickers on my mantle and poster wall that say that. But , Let's let the songs fill the air and the music play! Opinions we all have, that's cool. But maybe *Comparisons* should just only be for what can be heard and enjoyed - tomorrow nite!
I'm more let down when Bobby tries to sing 'mission in the rain' (monterrey furthur) - than letting JK sing it, fer crissakes. That was , uh not right.
onward in time .. a brief Phil+friends tour btwn furthurs
and now! if you live in BayArea @TXR! we have various rotating Phil and Friends shows, free bar shows with whomever passes thru , to boot ( J geils), Rambles, ...AND Furthur, here ..and on tour!
What more could want? Maybe just back to, uh ...Bob and Rob Wasserman acoustic !??
And my last thoughts on JK ..a performance outside of futhur, but worthy of note against any negative comments as to his talent * that stands on it's own * as a musician, guitarist, and vocalist:
if anyone saw the acoustic bar show where the power went out ->
Phil on acoustic ?baritone guitar?, Jon Grabhoff guitar,...and John K did a solo acoustic version of "Visions of Johanna",
that was strong. nailed all the lyrics vocally. totally from the heart. smilin.
When I saw him at the bar thur nite after the furthur show - I told him how great that song , that nite... was to me. He smiled and said "Ghosts of the Electricity". Yup.
.
How can any show be considered "bad?" It is what it is! The GD had their fair share of stinkers, but you can bet we were still there every night. The butterflies before the show, that rush from the first note, the ebb & flow of the show, the spaceship transporting you through time & space, the final crescendo, the lingering afterglow....
The worst Further show is better than no show at all; a bad stream is better that reading the set-list online as the show unfolds. As for the all the "fake Jerry" crap, JK makes those "rusty strings shine just one more time!" Not to slight the contributions of Jeff & Joe, but would Bobby & Phil be playing together now for this long if he wasn't there?
My only hope is that all the TXR shows see the light of day soon. “Let the music phill the air!!
Just thinking out-loud…. Peace!

I saw Ratdog do a China>Rider encore in '98 at Kingsbury Hall in SLC. It was sweet.
And as far as all this crap about Furthur, Other Ones, Phil n Friends, JK blah blah blah.....this is what we got folks. Enjoy it while it lasts. These guys are not getting any younger. And I think JK has proven his worth. Especially at the crossroads. The other night when I saw him play with The Fellowship (Phil n sons) he was his own. That Mountains on the Moon that night was special. I only started seeing Dead shows in '87 and I wished I had more time with Jerry but we didn't. And it sucks! And I'm sure Bobby, Phil, Mickey and Billy all feel the same way as we do. But instead of hanging up there gear and calling it quits, they keep on playin'....for us! What a gift! It may not be perfect all the time but was the Grateful Dead perfect all the time? I don't have kids yet, I plan on doing so in the future but I imagine these guys might have moved on by then and I'll take my kids to see Phil's sons play. The music never stops!!! Deal with it!
Haven't made it to TXR, but love the setlist. From what I heard it sounded really swell. Thanks for putting this up.
its hot outside for summer amphitheater and festival shows...a slower tempo is not unwelcome for activity tolerance for playing in the band
listening to the sound and feeling refreshed
air circulation on to off stage would keep the band and front levels oxygenated in the still air and heat...
hard on the respiratory/circulatory systems in crowds within structures...
same for indoors when venting is inadequate
I believe that was the first China->Rider at TXR.
FWIW.
If I'm listening at home it's prob gonna be good ol' G.D Jerry Band or The Q but live these guys do have the IT factor! Dig it while you can!
I think it was during Morning Dew when Russo blew out his kick drum. Anyone else see that?
that's one killer second set !
^^^^"let the music Phil the air".......
((((drooling)))
>>>I think it was during Morning Dew when Russo blew out his kick drum. Anyone else see that?
Yeah....that Dew was cataclysmic. I think that's easily the loudest that place has ever gotten in terms of group orgasm. That place had one of those sustained eruptions that just didn't stop....it felt like something was going to come undone.
Even Phil blushed a little.
Did someone actually sing Nobody's Fault? And if so, who?
Bob and it was not bad at all
For some reason, this setlist was on the 'Other Stuff' board (mebbe b/c there were not many reviews per se, mainly posts on what the stream sounded like):

Only my third Furthur show; man, have they come a long way in 3 years...1st set felt a little workmanlike, but also heavy on the 'hits'...I was sorta late to the gig, so I parked 1/2 mile away on the infamous Front Street, so I cracked up at the Shakedown opener...the HCS jam had some cool new twists, jam-wise; jam was nice and long, John and Bob locked in, Phil confidently leading the way...def. X-Factor. Alligator was a blast; then, out of a perfunctory Truckin' jam, thought I heard a Smokestack emerging...whaaaaa? 'Nobody's Fault'??? Bobstar only sang one verse, but the jams were badass...Touch made me miss ol' Jer, but the crowd ate it up...
After a relaxed 45 min break, they kept the hit's comin' w/ a nice UJB, but then they hit escape velocity (IMHO): 'Mountains' was given a cool, full electric treatment, replete with a couple of jams (has this ever happened before??)...the Let It Grow was powerful, but the Dew blew the roof off the place, holy shit, TITANIC version, best post-Fat Man version I ever saw. Stephen/MJ/11/Lovelight: brilliant. Was still chewing my grilled cheese when China > Rider started: amazing.
Sorry folks, I can't possibly see them @ Shoreline after that...TXR is a really cool place, sound was amazing, cheap ($6) IPA's, GREAT vibe in the room, a dancing, sweaty mass of happy heads having their collective head blown off! "Dude, that's my skull!!!" HUGE THANK you to Alan and Scott for kicking down the extra!
