OK folks, let's get the party started. It's my only show of the year so I'm a little anxious to get going today. Making the quick trip from Asheville to the Hampton Inn on Ashville Ave. in a few hours. Place is booked solid so I'm assuming there's a pile of heads going to be there with such close proximity to the show. I might even walk it. While I'm digging the cooler weather I was hoping to get a little early pre-game in at the pool today. Guess that might be a bust depending on Mother Nature.
Looks like a decent showing last night. Seems I can still get my Phil on with a Box maybe. Don't think that one's been played yet.
Looks like a beautiful spot to see a show. I've never been but I used to live not 3 miles from that part of town before I came out here. Wish that had been the spot for shows during my time there instead of the Verizon (Walnut Creek) shed.
Safe travels everyone and have a blast tonight!
forgot to mention the ampitheater site says you can bring in a sealed water bottle of any size. You can also bring chairs and shit on the lawn, but not in the pit area. Lot opens 2 hours prior to show.
HELLZ YEA - my only Furthur show this summer is tonight!! Gonna burn it down - lots of excellent setlists (check that 7/7 show in Philly). Loved watching that setlist come up on here from Hotlanta last night and can't wait to be apart of the show tonight!!!!
Any recommended pregame locations close to the venue?
I'll be drinking fresh mojitos, poolside Hampton Inn if the sun ever shows today. there are a pile of hotels nearby, so I'm guessing there is also some food/beverages there too. The whole place was business park and what I like to call "carboard cut-out" neighborhoods when I used to clean carpets in the Triangle during college (GoPack!). I'm hoping the place has grown a little since then in that respect.
>>It's my only show of the year...
Mine too. Last year's Raleigh show was a good one, hoping for another.
I'm glad to see there is already some excitement about this show.
Curfew
Unfortunately, curfew for this venue is 10 PM on a week night. Show is scheduled to start at 6:30, they usually start right on time. So that gives us just 3.5 hours for music. They'll have to take a short set break.
After party? Any local bands playing late?
...you can also bring chairs and shit on the lawn, but not in the pit area
Thanks be for that, matey. Isn't it always more pleasant for yourself and others to shit in a toilet? I'd be watching my step walking across the lawn for sure! I'm glad to see that the conduct in the pit area is more reserved.
Adam.. you are a funny man
Just came back from lunch, it's pouring out. Hopefully the weather will get some of this rain out of it's system. Otherwise it's starting to look like Hershey Park '85 to me...now that was a soaker.
Online weather forecast shows possible improvements starting around 6:00 PM with less chance of showers and isolated thunderstorms.
Came down from NY to take my bro to his first show in years. He was hoping for a Terrapin, but we're a day late. Should be plenty of grate music to enjoy in any case. Weather.com says the rain should stop before showtime. Otherwise we can look forward to Samba in the Rain, Ship of Fools, etc.
Very excited for all of you....so is there going to be a stream???? Have fun!
you know its gonna get stranger somethings you just know.....have fun tonight....I'm ready for bethel!!!! be safe!!!

Set 1
After Midnight
oh please oh please set us free in the STREAM!!
just gotta poke around....
I was supposed to set up and sell some books at the Philly show but they didn't allow any kind of vending before the show - they were giving out tickets and confiscating goods. I haven't experienced anything like it and it affected the rest of the show for me and I even took a couple days off from the couch tour, but I'm back and totally looking forward to tonight's show.
Next time they play the Mann, I'm definitely going to the BBQ beforehand.
Hoping for some Beatles, Floyd, and any other cool covers.

early curfew tonight? This all seems too early.
I read about a 10 pm curfew on one of the stream chats.
This place has a real early curfew. Hope 7 songs in 1st set is not the new standard...

Havin a blast!

Why are these streamers talking into their mics? I appreciate the stream, but they need to chill out. I don't want a running commentary. Sorry.
He said it is his stream and he'll talk if he wants to.
Squirrel shouting Goddamn at the wrong time in UJB and "Shit on the lawn" are both nominees for funniest couch tour moments from this tour
He IS pretty funny.
Kind of like Mystery Science Theater 3000 funny...
10:03 and still rockin'!
Thought it was about the music, not some guy's ego.

who wrote this LAME ASS SETLIST!!! GOD FUCKIN AWFUL.
As one who loves analyzing set lists...you can never know by titles alone. Wow! The Playing In The Band was unreal! Long end jam of HC Sunsine was also in the same spacey fat mode as was each jam between mts of the moon verses...Dark Starish moments for me throughout these long heavy duty jams. Having the closest seat in the house also had me locked in. it was really great. All I had hoped for and more. Bob JK and Phil were in a zone -thats for sure.
Show was remarkable. Setlist does look crazy, these guys put the most seemingly random sets to gether. But the playing was tremendous throughout. Last year's Raleigh show was outstanding, this might be better, I have to listen to see. 1/2 step was as good as it gets and the highlight of the first set...maybe the whole night. Ramblin' was nearly as good. Amazing set closing combo. I didn't expect to enjoy UJB, but the whole place was singing their asses off, very nice. Days Between was excellent, Bob did a very nice job. The whole band looked and sounded great. Phil and Bob should be proud of themselves.
Glad to hear the nice reviews and happy that they left the Dew in tact for Brooklyn!
Certainly looks unusual, especially both set closers. But I've learned that with this band it's all about how they play, not what they play, and if the execution was strong then I have no doubt that this was a good time.
I'm betting they included both midnight tunes as a dig at the early closing time.
I, for one, love the "oddball" setlists!
Definitely an odd setlist last night - but damn if it didn't work to near perfection.
Goes to show you don't ever know . . .
Sound seemed a bit tricky in there, Phil was pretty muddled in the Moons (vox) - going to check the aud tapes and might have to buy this board.
Highlights: Rag, 1/2 Step, Ramble on in the 1st set, just huge joyous singalong romps. Great potty break for Schoolgirl-Lucy .
Second set launched and hit warp 9 deep space pretty quick. Left wide eyed, slack jawed, head cocked perplexed many times. Locked in and listening loud.
A brief break from the heavy with a light snack of Midnight Hour, then back into the soup with a HCS that wanted to get a bit wild on the boys, but they kept it barely under control till the post second verse jam and then boom, time warp.
From Mts through to the end was really fantastic. The full emotional engagement by Phil on Mts and then both Bob and Phil on UJB and then Bob on Days, well, I'm a known Bobby basher and when he does that I just have to STFU and bow in respect. Had me dusted up pretty good.
Anyway, another show that proves it's not the setlist, it's the playing. Get this one. Listen loud, undivided attention. Better, get out there to a show, there's no substitute for the real thing.
Judge - Agree 100% with you comments, especially your take on Days...that was something special.
Oh...the weather made a great turnaround and even some blue sky peaked out. The air was cool and despite the weather pattern, not too humid.
What made this show for me was the incredible venue & the great vibe. First time there...not the last for sure. The folks we met there were tremendous! Just chillin' with Furthur!
Yeah, I agree quality of playing trumps setlist anyday . . . though both are part & parcel of the gig -> i.e. quality & quantity. I've always said, the boys could "Mary Had a Little Lamb" for 3 straight hours and so long as it rocks, takes ya out there and does stuff you previously though unimaginable, that's just fine w/ this cat! Kudos to the boys for keepin' it fresh, unprdictable and alive -- true carriers of the flame, an obligation that we, who dig on this stuff, must also assume w/ clarity of thought, purity of heart and good/sincere intentions in whatever it that we do to live thrive and survive! Viva la Furthur!
Huh, good name for such keepers of the flame -- "Furthur"!
Amen Crazy Otto!

who wrote this LAME ASS POST!!! GOD FUCKIN AWFUL.
Thank all of you lucky peeps for writing these great reviews and the streamers for streaming! I am tempted to add another show on after reading the enthusiasm .
playing was solid, set list sucked. While I have seen some great Furthur shows Asheville, Charleston, Atlata (Fox), Simpsonville. Seems like every tour they have a night filled with mediocre songs they are using up. (Charlotte at Bojangles and Baltimore at Mariner, Fairfax, VA on St. Patty's Day to a less extent are a few that come to mind). I do not mind unique setlists, but come on...
Download for this show finally became available last night. I got the flac files and listened to Playin' on the way to work this morning. The audio quality is great, better than other Furthur shows I've downloaded including last year's Raleigh show. The Playin' jam is outstanding.
