I'm going back to New York City, I do believe I've had enough!!
"Eat At Joe's" - It's Joe's Hometown!!
the return of taperob tonite
It was a horror show parking two years ago...the MCU lot fills up early in the day and street parking is impossible....just got off the phone with the Aquarium and their lot will be open till 2am. Otherwise, take the train. Enjoy and cya all there !!!
who's got my $20 ticket?
One example of how this band is growing furthur was experienced last night in Cary. Last year when I heard No More Do I in the first set, I thought, "wow that song has real potential." Well last night in that meaty spacey heavy duty jam of a second set, it continued to be developing the way I had imagined. I am enjoying last night's replay of the show on archive...so many moments that will never be forgotten!! They just kept taking the music furthur. Hope you all have as good a time tonight as I did last night. Enjoy the moment, enjoy the journey. Love one another!
Oh, I guess they are off today and the show is tomorrow. Sorry. I'm still reelin from our time at the Koka Booth last night. I'll check in with you all tomorrow night. Maybe I can get some work done tonight! Blessings and peace.
NYC means all sorts of possibilities for guests sitting in! Really dig it when guests sit in. W. Haynes? Branford? Joan Osborne? (ozzy -- nah); ratdioh sax dude (spacing his name - Kenny?); Barney Rubble? Who knows?
See you there Poggie
No guests last entire Beacon run.. thought that was strange but.....
Tomorrow night (Sat 7/14) would have been Woody Guthrie's 100th Birthday. Woody lived in Coney Island - Mermaid Ave. Hoping for some type of tribute. At least a "This Land is your Land". Plus, Fireworks every Friday night at astroland 9:30...Let's get this party started !!
Look forward to seeing the folks in chat tonight!!
I always attribute "Goin Down the Road" to Woody Guthrie for some reason (Grapes of Wrath, perhaps? Dunno)whether or not he wrote the tune. Anyway, yeah -- would love to see a nod to Woody. We had an English Setter named Woody after Mr. Guthrie -- crazy/nutty dog but a great dude. RIP Woody (both of ya)!
Hey Crazy Otto ... Woody did write GDTRFB. I guess that's the better call !! A nod to your Woody as well !
Due for a lot of the big hitters tonight (Other One, Shakedown, Eyes, Viola Lee, Scarlet)
But don't be surprised if first Dire Wolf, Stella, Ripple, Attics of tour make an appearance as well:
http://www.thebarnpresents.com/song-statistics/fur thur-song-statistcs/furthur-rotation-infographic
Huh, go figure -- I'm guessin' that water outside Brooklyn there don't taste like wine, though! Ain't no chilly winds gonna blow -- have a super-awesome, ecstatic, super-human time all you lucky cats goin down the road to the shows!
"New York got the ways and means, but just won't let you be."
Anyone hear want time they will be starting?
parking lots packed already.
Have fun everyone! Won't even be able to make the couch tonight... it's the price I had to pay for bribing the scheduling goddess for Merriweather and Koka nights off. Definitely worth it! XXXOOO

Going Down The Road Feelin' Bad, also known as the Lonesome Road Blues, is an American traditional song, "a white blues of universal appeal and uncertain origin" (Ralph Rinzler, quoted on Erbsen 2003, p. 118). It was recorded by many artists through the years; the first known is Henry Whitter in 1924 as "Lonesome Road Blues". Others who made cover versions include Cliff Carlisle (also as "Down In The Jail On My Knees"), Woody Guthrie (also as "Blowin' Down This Road" or "I Ain't Gonna Be Treated This Way"), Bill Monroe, Earl Scruggs, Roy Hall, Elizabeth Cotten and Grateful Dead.

Going Down The Road Feelin' Bad (Original Lyrics)
There are many versions of the song's words. The following are the lyrics sung by Bill Monroe (Jerry's Fave). They are nearly the same as in the 1933's version of Cliff Carlisle with string bass and harmonica.
1. I'm going down this road feeling bad
I'm going down this road feeling bad
I'm going down this road feeling bad, lord, lord
And I ain't a-gonna be treated this a-way
2. I'm down in the jailhouse on my knees
Down in the jailhouse on my knees
Down in the jailhouse on my knees, lord, lord
And I ain't a-gonna be treated this a-way
3. They feed me on corn bread and beans
They feed me on corn bread and beans
They feed me on corn bread and beans, lord, lord
And I ain't a-gonna be treated this a-way
4. Got two dollar shoes on my feet
Got two dollar shoes on my feet
Two dollar shoes they hurt my feet, lord, lord
And I ain't a-gonna be treated this a-way
5. It takes a ten dollar shoe to fit my foot
It takes a ten dollar shoe to fit my foot
It takes a ten dollar shoe to fit my foot, Great God
And I ain't a-gonna be treated this a-way
6. I'm going where the weather fits my clothes
I'm going where the weather fits my clothes
I'm going where the weather fits my clothes, lord lord
And I ain't a-gonna be treated this a-way

TR-how's the lot scene? I remember it being fun as hell last time. Not going to make either show. I'm bummed. First NYC run that I haven't been to at least one show.
Heard there was a "Let It Ride," soundcheck too. Awesome!
thanks for the info. TR

PZ Dictionary worthy ..
I bitch about bob all the time, but he did a very good job on the ballad of a thin man. Must have really studied up post the tars mess. Jack straw started kinda off, but they made up for it. Solid set. Thanks taper rob for the stream
Sound quality of the stream is great, first time on the tour. Unfortunately, the band seems flat. Nothing went anywhere. No big solo on the end of Crazy Fingers. Bobby got the lyrics this time on Thin Man, but boy was that slow. Phil did a good job on Let It Ride, but Jack Straw didn't have the monster jam. Oh well, bodes well for the second set. I'll be ready. Thanks Taper Rob!
Cool set. At headcount thing. Volume way too low up here and in the seats. Get feild if you are still buying for manana.
Tried to shAre a pic but cant paste from my iphone. Fun times
Thought that set was very good. Loved the Jack Straw.

Beautiful stuff here.

milestones jam should be added to dark star, which was uptempo and jazzy when not out there and weird...
"Volume way too low up here and in the seats. Get feild if you are still buying for manana."
the sound in the regular seats (not the fancy ones up top) was loud and clear...you also have to play the wind, same as jones beach...
awesome show...listening to trob's taping...ubc is ridiculously over the top great...what an amazing song. I love to count the 11/4 over to the 15/4 and back and forth. we are lucky kids
This was a phenomenal performance tonight. I saw RI and this was my last show of this tour. I saw 6 beacons and Wallingford and this year tonight was my overall favorite night. The summer surf air, 90 degrees humid and sweaty Brooklyn Dead. Scarlet fire was epic. Hardly anybtunebup. Right out of the gate. I was front row stage left by Phil. I was so tuckered in behind a big speaker in front of him I could only see his hair on his head but not him all night. JK was really impressive and the entire scarlet fire was just what iwas looking for. Don't forget- its the 28 year anniversarry of 7-13-84 with the scarlet touch fire and dark star encore from the Greek in Berkeley. I had a feeling they may drop some niceties. Let it grow was a mad house dance rest- chicks galore jammin.. I'm happily married but gentlemen- I was happy it was not a sausage fest up front. Anyway- it was a dreamy show at dark star and I felt it was of a '73-'74 ilk. Unbroken was also incredible jamming by the whole band. I like the death don't arrangement but there is a sort of 'War' sound to it at times...sounded like the song 'four cornered room'....NFA was a 1981 style blast off. Ripple is actually not one of my favorites. In fact I'm not a fan of ncores but it was quite nice. A plus tunes. A plus mellow scene- security absent- great band- heart of gold band.
That was a great show. Wish I could back again for the Saturday show.
Show was good, esp from JS on. Here's some video. Was in the seats, no tripod, tough to stay steady when in tight, but you may enjoy the Fireworks Jam, rather unique. More later.

I will be right of stage tonight celebrating my birthday (tomorrow but close enough) with my friends, family and all of my sisters and brothers.... No better way to celebrate than with all of YOU
Nice to hear Phil has cleared up his tone with the new rig. Its sounds so much better than Pawtucket.
Dig the history lesson goin' down the road. Thanks. Also dig the new lights set up with screen behind the band -- is candace back with boys? Ah, the old and the new! Keepin it fresh.
It real was real nice to see some ole friends last night and some new ones !! Didn't get the guys name behind us, but hope to cya again tonight. John was on fire last night, particulary for Jack Straw. Started a little disjointed, then John took it to another level. I was hoping for "Let it Ride", heard it in the lot during soundcheck and knew it was going to rip. The main aspect of this show was Bobby's mind set...during the Beacon run, he seemed to be confused or bored. Last night he was boppin around and nailed Ballad of a Thin Man ! I think the solo shows brought back his confidence...Bobby Ace is back and looking foward to another barn burner tonight !!
Totally agree with Steve...Bobby was strong and confident....JK kicked the intensity of Jack Straw to transcendant levels...They hit a groove that never let up in the second set....awesome!!
>>>> Phil did a good job on Let It Ride, but Jack Straw didn't have the monster jam.
huh ?
of all the Jack Staws I've seen this band do this was by far the best one...I've been a detractor in the past b/c I don't like that they forgo a rippin guitar solo for the keyboard jam...Last night we got both...Good Chimenti Jam followed by a decently long Jam driven by JK...toward the end of which the entire band definitely reached ludicrous speed and there was a huge and well choreographed Phil cluster bomb to cap it off...
not sure where you were sitting but from upfront on JK's side this sounded great imo...our whole section was going apeshit and there was a definite consensus that the Jack Straw rocked...sorry you did not dig...
The rest of the show was pretty ass kicking as well!!!
"dark star and I felt it was of a '73-'74 ilk."
John's new rig has that '73 sound, I noticed this at Merriwearther and it was evident last night as well. Crisp, clear, a dry horn like tone. Great stuff.
Thanks to all for your reviews.
What time did they finish playing? is there a curfew at MCU?
They were on from the get go. Love Hey Pocky way and glad it's back. Greatest Story was fun and bouncy. Second set felt kind of rushed but all in all a fun show and experience for me. Bob did a great job on Thin Man. I will agree with the person who criticized the Jack Straw. I thought it came up a bit short too but no complaints it was well placed and fun.
Last night you could have gone in at 7pm and gotten real close.
ended at 11 but I don't know of a curfew. Surprised that 8 songs in over 1:45 is rushed!?!!?! I thought in Dark Star the jam in place of "transtive nightfall..." was amazing and showed me they were in no hurry at all....Phish phans would die for these jams///all over 10 min and WRS over 25! The key is that they were NEVER noodling...these guys laid it out and it was always FRESH.
The show was MONSTER!! Sound was great. Jamming incredible. Set list superb. They never seemed rushed despite the 11:00 curfew. Can't wait for tonight. Weren't the fireworks cool?
Seeing my four year old rocking out his dance moves in the first set made it an even better show for me. Holding the One year old, even more bliss.

Maybe rushed wasn't the right word, I meant maybe less inspired or less crisp. It felt like it to me anyway. Personally, I thought after the fireworks they lost momentum and it didn't sound as good or inspired though the Ripple was nice. Again, my own personal recollection, your mileage may vary. It was probably just me being bored with the deep jams. But I'm glad you thought it was awesome. I'm glad you had a great time. I had a good time and in another life I would go back tonight.

Love your setlist, what about Nathan's (for the history, mustard & kraut, no ketchup) and when they older, the Cyclone.

I definitely heard Milestones during Darkstar. There's a hint of it in the previous MCU Darkstar from 6/26/10, but it was full-on Friday 7/13/12.
Glad to hear everyone dug this show. I was a little unsure following the (IMO) lackluster Beacon run, but they grabbed me right from the HPW opener, which I had been calling for several days. The whole weekend was great. My only regret is it's over.
