Shakedown!
TR, Sounded great ... thanx!
Excellent crowd this evening. The place was really packed, much more than remember from 2009.
Sound was great.
Scarlet Fire and UJB and then I Know You Rider to close the set.
Listening last night I'd have to say the stream sounded, ah, energetic and very very full of guitars mandos etc....and it also sounded quite chaotic. I truly very much appreciate the effort made by TR and all to provide us w steams, but I wonder if some of what I experienced was a result of the mix of the stream. Could we hear some details (after you wake up and have a coffee) of your ex[erience there at the show?
I was getting a bit of a headache listening to the constant barrage and had to stop.
Gotta add that I also appreciate and how great an experience it must be for Phil and his boys to not only make this music together, but do it at The Vibes on Jerry's 70th birthday year. I play sometimes w my 19 year old and it is always a high point. The Leshes are surely bursting w pride and I'm grateful for their opportunity and the sharing.

Phil bombs for everyone!
It wasn't the stream that's P&F sometimes too much chaos I liked the first set very rootsy this band lost me second set with the GD stuff overplayed. I liked the mandos fiddles etc. in the first set and the song selection I would fly out to txr for that kind of show.
Phil and band rocked. I wish Furthur would play at this volume and intensity. Awesome. Someone said "crowd sounded thin", place was packed and the band was loud, this wasn't a sing along. Loved it
Enjoyable sets last night. Lots of rocking jams, no spacey jams though. straight forward rootsy rock n roll. well played. Glad I stayed for the full Kung Fu set instead of racing over to see Weir et al, that was was brutal. I caught the last half and it produced true boredom.
Not Garcia's birthday
Nobody has anything to say about the lack of ANY keyboards? Nobody thinks that 4 guitars at once was too many? Really? That show was definitely high-energy, and the vocals were great throughout, but there were too many guitars all night long. Larry played fiddle on like two songs and guitar on everything else. Jackie played guitar, period. Graham played mostly electric guitar, with some acoustic, and Brian played quite a bit of mandolin (largely inaudible when 3 electric guitars were going from where I sat), as well as some acoustic and electric guitar. The brothers switched off on 3 instruments, basically. Russo was a monster, and Phil was Phil. I'd rather see Jackie just play organ all night just for the different sound than see a guitar army all night long. The decision to not have a keyboard on stage was inexplicable to me.
The real highlight at this show waz the sweet, sweet harmonies, particularly when Teresa was there.
Teresa was sweet on some tunes and added a real growl to others. What a great bonus to the LC package.
I just listened again and loved it even more! The sweet melodic sounds of the bluegrass oriented jams rocked my world! I love how Grahme's voice is like "Young Phil".
There was a joyous component that makes this line-up unique, special and sweet. I can only imagine how incredible the Ramble will be!
I loved the 7 walkers set...Taper Rob is GOD!!!!!
I will listen to Bobby in a while... Have a great day!
Last time i saw phil was his 3 night run in denver with warren, scofield, russo, jc on keys. That lineup is a little more cosmic and i like it better, different vibe but phil always has the sound dialed in. Seen many renditons of phil n friends, would love to see a weekend mix up of everyone that has played in phil and friends, would be a really cool bunch of shows
Maybe it has already been said, but I think given Phil will be at TXR a whole lot more than anywhere else, that the LESH FAMILY BAND & FRIENDS is what we are likely to see more and more of now. I don't expect it to get stale, as the other players will rotate based on who's interested and around and that will keep it fresh. Given Jackie and Larry have played with Phil plenty and Russo is his most often drummer now, the show was very tight.
I didn't miss the keys, though I'd have welcomed them too. At times I agree with other remarks on the sound being a little guitar-heavy and the mando was drowned at those moments.
Loved the faster tempos as compared to Furthur though. Russo probably felt he didn't have two conductors telling him what tempo to lay down; has to be a little easier following just one preference, rather than 2 opposite ones. And the tempos of Bobby's Me & My Uncle, etc. was also slowed down compared to Furthur during his set with Bruce.
Even without a keyboard, last night's show rocked. Pace was great. Volume was plenty loud and I could hear the mandolin well enough. Why the need to compare with Furthur? The bands play and are kind enough to invite us to listen and enjoy.
One moment in particular really made me chuckle. During Fire on the Mt, Jackie came over and pointed to Graham for him to take the lead. It appeared that Graham was not ready. Phil immediately stepped into the gap for a few seconds, giving Graham a minute to get it together, which he did quite nicely. Tender father/son moment.
This show was high energy and rocked start to finish. BIG first set that blasted right out of the gate with Morning Comes!! gone Wandering was pretty good, solid and good Jackie, really strong Bird Song and big romp through Cripple Creek. The place was giggin! The, Pride! Say no more...Pride!! Nice next tune, romping Jed and dance invasion during the blistering Cumberland! It was a solid set for sure. Nice Loooooong set break to visit old and new friends, spend time kicking in and hanging out. Second set went 0 - 60 very quickly during Stephen in to a decent Other One (A loud down and dirty Phil charge in to it!) then on to a nice spacey circular Wheel. Then arm in arm dance-and sing-along for UJB. The only thing that kinda lost me was Wheel's on Fire but not cuz they didn't play it well, just doesn't do it for me. So Many Roads is just plain gorgeous and last night's rendition was just that! They stopped for a while after SMR, Phil was happy happy happy and it only took one note to hear the Scarlet and everyone near me was high up on their toes boogieing and smiling for the rest of the show. Scar>Fire, Rider was gigdown city. Phil's rap seemed especially upbeat tonight. He clearly was having a fantastic night!! The Shakedown encore blew the rood off the place (I know, there's no roof!) and the jams were prolific and solid. This was a very good show for sure my phriends! Great crowd near us all the way through.
"Why the need to compare with Furthur?"
Not exactly a need, but doing what comes naturally for most. And why not?
Just listened to this!! Blazing high energy start to finish. Ya know, it's less busy and better than I remember!! Hard to believe 4 stringed instruments could play so well together and not be to busy. Some serious "listening" going on in this band!!
