Have a rockin' good time at the show tonight, or on whatever couch you may find yourself - I'll be dancin' in the ballroom of my mind as always!
Someone was asking last night where 7 Walkers was playing this year for New Years. In case anyone in San Fran cannot make the Furthur show Papa Mali is warming up for Trombone Shorty at the Fillmore. 7 walkers is on hiatus while Billy recovers from arm problems. Tendonitis I believe.
Happy New Years everyone

New Year revelers at San Francisco Civic could be in for a special treat if Further celebrates the life of Ms Etta James (who passed in 2012).
Today is the 30th anniversary of Ms James performance with the Grateful Dead during their 3rd set of the 1982 new years concert.
Joan Osbourn who is performing at Terrapin Crossroads tonight might join Further after her set and sing some of the following songs:
In the Midnight Hour
Tell Mama
Baby what You want
Hard to Handle
Turn on Your Lovelight
that would be nice if Joan did those. Love her in Trigger Hippy

i saw that...where do i find phils chat?
I don't know. I went to phillesh.net and couldn't find a chat there either. Nice jam here in Chain. . .
I think Phil's singing has gotten a lot better over the last few years (because I thought it got pretty bad for awhile)

UBC...Sweet
Eric Beale, go to Philzone.com and right on top of the Furthur concert schedule you will see "L-I-V-E C-H-A-T" in bright pink...I believe that is where its at...
i left ratdog site because so much negativity...okay...i dont like after midnight or dear mr fantasy either...and jeff in my opinion domimates too much on organ/piano...the dead are a guitar band not a keyboard band... even though he is awesome...but jeez...appreciate these guys for who they are and what they have done for us! and i came here and there was a lot of positive chat and now there is no chat it's gone...hopefully will pick up with next tour...
Speaking of voices I think Bob's still sounds great. I saw him on his recent acoustic tour. Awesome show with Jackie Greene.
interesting that i'm listening to the wheel while the posts above show unbroken after the wheel....not so live....but great anyway

Thanks Sharrad. Jerrimike, I have to agree on that kind of negativity. People are too uptight if they can't just enjoy the music they are hearing. This is a different band. Those people can't get over the fact Jerry died 17 years ago and simply cannot accept anything else without him.
ess kerph, if you are listening via the Sirius link,
try clicking on the 'GO TO LIVE' icon up in the right hand corner....
happy new years adam;may you have a full year of the dogs, couch tour and golf;just got back from dso...
the new years run with etta was great, dinosaurs opened and b.graham rode out on a giant mushroom...
happy year of newness to rugged hill and the key holder.
exactly eric...they will never be who they were without jerry...but they still deserve our respect and appreciation...an honest comment of "eh...that was okay" is cool...but to denigrate based on what someone wants to hear is ridiculous...same goes with those who think the dead died after 72...or 78...or 85...or 90...no respect for the boys in the fact that maybe they changed in what they like to do
heard billy k. played with the mule last nite the 30th at the beacon;andy alidort played too.

nugstradamus : dear nuggy, boy,do i need to poke around, you have no idea how happy you made me,i can't wait to see it,never thought in a million years, how lucky am i,always told people about it,let them hear it,but now they can see it,tower of power was there too,i am gratefully indebted..
I was the first caller who talked to David ... I dont understand why TRI can't broadcast streaming video of NYE.
It used to be done a long time ago with very expensoive
equipment .. now u an do it with your iPhone and a Ustream account.
I didn't understand why he didn't support my views until I heed his freind Addy who is the Facebook lieason for SiriusXM Grateful Dead channel ..
He asked him how is the show ( a question I was gonna ask after ) and he said he wasn't there .. and basically that he feels that it is too much work and he is too old and that its too noisy .. Etc ..
Well David .. Learn to delegate. There are hundreds of heads who would volunteer to make it happen and if its too much .. that's fine .. let someone else do it.
It's not that hard .. and listening to that dood at the show try to describe what's going on via audio sucked.
Also .. TRI would not even exist if it wasn't for tons of heads dumping gobs of money on the GD .. So we deserve some effort on their part to make it happen.
Jerry would never stand for such a lame attitude. I don't know if the whole west coast is stoned now that it is legal to smoke .. but at every turn I find lazy hippies that think life is just handed to them and make no extra effort to volunteer to make good things happen. David has done great things for heads and lots of devotion to help us. Everyone gets tired and needs to get paid and so forth .. but there is great resource in others who have twice the energy and should be given the opportunity to help.
Also .. the remarks about republicans ( from what I assume is a Democrat .. and most likely a Obama support ) was lame.
If anything I was insulted that my conversation had anything to do with politics .. it was about capaitalizm.
Happy new bullshit year 2013
r.hill what other thread?the live chat thing?
I watched Phish close with "Iron Man" on Ustream lamp cast earlier and it was sweet. Love Furthur & Phish cover selection lately/always!

What was Phil signaling during the bow?
He was going 2 -1-3 meaning 2013. Lets hope for the best!
i don't think i'll ever be able to see or listen to another Furthur show. i've had the meatball.
The Saturday show was Laurie's pick for best show, and no doubt they seemed to rock harder and tighter Saturday night than they did on the other two. The opening notes of NFA just roared out, and it was like, "Oh, John came to play tonight." He was fired up and swaying on his feet as he ripped into his leads on both NFA and The Golden Road, and he never really let up all night. Bobby was in fine form and Jeff was in full boogie mode. Russo and Phil were, of course in perfect synch and both brought the thunder. The entire second set seemed like a perfect moment of classic GD material done in real time - with musical firebreathing dragons and on-beat twirling dancers included.
Sunday was a bit more laid back, especially the first set (at least to my ears), but the touch on the strings was sweeter. The night peaked for me with a Days Between that started with a Jeff solo on piano that almost brought a tear to my eye. I'm no music critic, I'm a fan, and everything before and after Days was kiss sweet as far as my ears were concerned. I thought the band held back a couple of jams (saving it for NYE?) but still let the energy loose with a sincere and deft touch. There were some spiritual moments in the jams, and the WBYGN to close the show was as loving a moment as any shared with Jerry, and the crowd just as sincere in the love back to the band. Everyone seemed very happy going out the doors.
NYE was a different crowd, more of a party, and the vibe in the room never reached the intensity of last NYE. More importantly, while the band obviously had a good time, I don't think the music reached the intensity of last NYE either. It was a good show, and I went back to the hotel dripping wet from dancing and wearing a smile, but it was not necessarily a show the collectors will rant about for years. I love every moment of live dance time and appreciate every chance I get to see a show, so I tend to tune out the naysayers and critics. This NYE show may not hold up to previous years on the recordings, but for those of us who were lucky enough to be there, it will go down as a most memorable party and a fairly excellent rock and roll show. I'm pretty sure it will be worth at least one or two good listens when it becomes available on the archive!
I thought the band was in fine form all three nights, and would love to be able to hit both the Sweetwater and Colorado shows. It ain't gonna happen but I'd love to go! This band has the grace of a sweet muse, and I'm always happy to be present when the music plays the band. Happy 2013 everybody.
Gary, I couldn't have said it better myself!
Saturday..........what a RAGING opening trio of NFA>GR>BEW. Ya, the energy was HIGH!
And set two was SOARING!
I'm very happy to have finally caught a new years run! (First NYE off in decades!)
Cheers!
NIce review Gary. I like to go to see Furthur just to relive some GD concert memories. The band sure does that for me every time! I'll stop going when I don't enjoy them any more
Anyone know who the girl was/is that rode in on the phoenix?? Just curious....
Gary, great review! The band was so on fire, and so on, with big explorations, that I'm calling Saturday night my best Furthur show ever (of many). It was the ultimate combination of jazz and rock, energized, out, and beautiful, beyond fusion. What an amazing run. Ain't nothin' close to as good out there and they seem to jump to the next level every time I see them! Thankful to be able to be part of it.
