Sweet to see Phil in his element here in NYC! After streaming a few TXR shows I saw Phil is all about bring the positive energy, and he brought it to Sullivan Hall in a big way. Phil has the widest smile I have ever seen and he was blasting folks all night with full on face shots.... Turn up the dancing vibe a notch and Phil would feed you right back, it was excellent! His sons rock and together with Ross James they bring that youthful folk-punk energy too, Phil was loving it!
Sorry to see no webcast,
It'd be great to have one from the east coast, getting tough to stay up till 4am for the west coast shows
This family band line up brings a passion to play and with Phil's sweet baseline everything sounded great! The energy built early in this show with a Candyman so fast it was like 33rpm at 45 speed, they ripped it like speed folk punk! Althea was the high point for me, it really rocked, that blast of energy carried right through a smokin' hot Alabama (not usually my favorite tune), then Ross showed us what he's got, and it's quite a lot, in his own arrangement of Big RR Blues. The crescendo beautifully pooled into the sweetest Whiskey in a Jar you ever heard. From then on out they were sailing in the sky ever so slowly floating back into the room, which never seemed overcrowded.
Bravo and I hope we all get a few more of these over the coming years!
I think they are just getting started here in the East and hope they can work out the webcast thing. Tough though if you do not own the place especially here in NYC. I think the Iridium has been live-streaming stuff maybe that should be the next venue, although it would not be cheap.
mmmmm
