I'll second that. Wowzah!

Could be wrong but that setlist should read Other One jam>Dark Star

I just copied and pasted from facebook. That sure sounded like The Other One jam before Dark Star...

Interesting the lack of reviews. This had to be one of the most unique and exploratory P&F shows i've ever seen in 100 +.

Moments of the second set pushed it so far to the edge of what you could describe as music that it was both awe-inspiring and unnerving. Moments where members of the band were holding on for dear life on a wildly out of control maelstrom of sound and chaos. other moments when a thread or groove would emerge and the tension/release was elating.

Dare I say moments when the Stanley was way off track from the rest of the band and lost in the music in general. some overplaying. Cody did an admirable job trying to keep up but it was obvious he didnt know the music and changes and Phil was actually generously teaching and coaching him on stage. But much respect to that young man-he had a great attitude and energy and took on a formidable lexicon with great courage and effort!

Im surprised none of you snarky bastards have commented on Stanleys dress and feminine/transgender persona. I think that was extra weird and distracting for some but I say "right on brother. freak freely." dude is pretty genius and reminded me of Jimi Hendrixs transgender love child. pretty mind blowing really.

Neal Casal is a pretty great fit for Phil. he had both a sublime and searing touch on guitar. he worked up to an awesome tone this run and has an understated humble and passionate stage presence while losing himself in the vocals.

Some Phil bombs after Wheel and Terrapin absolutely obliterated my mind standing two feet from one of his Meyer subwoofers.

Being able to trip on into the bar for a full swing TFB gig during set break while Phil and Jill held court and dined under a shimmering and melting american flag was California Americana at its finest. Alos thanks staff for staying open after the gig. it makes such a difference being able to level out there with a nice pinot before getting into the car.

oh and i have to add....a SUPER psychedelic Dark Star. totally outside the groove as Phil sang the intro verse in an aged and willowy voice. Jon Graboff is fucking incredible and him and Phil had a very unique and special chemistry, exchanging some very subtle yet heavy and poignant glances. Jon traced Phils bass line with the pedal steel in a way that merged with it at points and created a new synergized tone that was absolutely mesmerizing.

During Dark Star, the image of Phil and Jon as these cartoon characters made out of melting wax frozen in time and shifting into some outer dimensions. great stuff

What he said.

What they both said. When the combo of jazzer/rock/pedal steel guitars were all wailing they cracked open the spacetime continuum to reveal another universe. Seriously. Pics of SJ Saturday night here: http://samm2012.blogspot.com/2013/06/every-girl-cr azy-bout-sharp-dressed-man.html
