all good and cool kirley. house hubby gig I hope isn't so bad and you won't go hungry being a chef. I am sorry however that the disease of alcoholism - if so, is a place that's not cool with you. It's not healthy but you know that, and also that it's a disease. only you can say what's best for you and only you can make the right decisions. same with us all. I'm happy you're here and write, and enjoy what the legacy musicians still do, for themselves and us!
how's yorkville treating you and mrs kirley?
I didn't have time last night to listen to the streams and I wasn't really upset that the public officials recommended that the band called it a night when they did, and 'we agreed' was the official post by the band - after I read about huge power outages in the area and trees down everywhere + other hazards, today. I think it really was a public safety issue and the right decision was made for everyone. they have to remember at all times, we're not one when assembled, we're thousands and that makes a big difference for a tremendous number of considerations, first of all - safety, for them and us if we want and expect them to keep doing what we love them to, and what they love to do as well, being play.
yorkville is good mrs kirley is a nurse of 30 years.no kids fat beagle moxie adopted from humain society 3 years ago.have a nice small house with rental above us in a quiet neighorhood.what about bob.father jumped off a overpass in cal went through the windshield of a mac truck from the booze uncle blew his head off with a shotgun from booze both grandfathers died of liver cancer before 60 from booze.brother hasnt had a drink in 13 years but smokes weed.i tried that didnt work ended up at the booze store doc says i has born with it .showtime

westy baby - how was summer camp pick up? does he, she or they appreciate our music yet at all? my boy does, but sometimes thinks space and infrared roses is scary. both love 'not for kids only', 'shady grove' and 'the pizza tapes' amongst others.
judy if you're out there - I'm too tired to light up my laptop tonight if there's no stream, sighs. playground, circus, downtown, pool, playground again and stories today.
she said she said ?
I keep predicting all this really obsqure stuff that almost no one knows and never happens, though they have played live or studio recorded!
... or - the main ten.
(because I think its fun and funny for me. kind of like deadhead poker or grateful dead-opoly, 'where's the start box? there's a start box? lol, which I still can't find anyone to play with)
I'll call a Shakedown Street second set opener.
Hey Clutch...camp pick-up went great. He had a fabulous week and came home really smelly
My son is 11 and he's been singing and dancing to GD since the beginning. He's been to 2 shows of The Dead (04 & 09) and about 20 Furthur.
when there was no stream tonight, i put on 1st night Boston. I'll have to check out the Philly show.

Archive.org is usually only a show or 2 behind. Plus I can "skip track"
I was at the Philly show, and it was special. one of the better memories I have from tour, both musically and as a scene, dancing up on the hill
This show tonight looks killer so far! Wish I was there, but cant wait for GOTV. :p
Anyone else here agree that this year's summer tour Furthur put on might be the pinnacle (so far)? My first Furthur show was at Radio City in Feb 2010... I recently witnessed 8 of the 9 Capital Theatre shows... I've seen them over 30 times (saw Jerry over 30 times) and I swear this band is getting better!!! Really exploring the music. I mean, they jammed the hell out of "Just A Little Light" the other night!!! Personally, I'm excited to see what's next. JK and JC are taking control, and with Bobby's approval (as hard as it is for him to let go of the reins)! I don't understand the people who come on this forum and knick pick. Damn, just having the opportunity to be in the same room with Phil and Bobbby brings great pleasure.
And just an FYI, Anthem Of The Sun just turned 45 yesterday!
Jerry would love this band.

I think that's called "perfect"
getting different again VC. and that's permanence with everything including grateful dead music. Its always changed and at various times radically with the personnel, time of life and other factors. JC, JK and JR are all scary stronger on this tour though the nostalgic and empirical knowledge in BWs and PLs grey matter, I feel, is the basis and rudder that navigates it and holds it down as something 'everyone' has and will consider it to be very special musically and historically extrodinary, probably forever.
Agreed. Probably forever.
Did Sam Cutler introduce the band tonight ????
He said on his FB page that he did.
>>>...and will consider it to be very special musically and historically extraordinary, probably forever.
>>>Agreed. Probably forever.
Shouldn't that be spelled "FUREVER"
Peace out,
~;-}
Looks like a decent show. There have been short lists this tour and the lists are sort of odd ball. Like why not play the eleven then love light Why not lay fire? I'd like to know how long the scarlet was- was it a perfunctory 6 minutes or a nice long jam?
The band is tired. Phil seems to have the energy but this is a tour that given the heat wave and oddball lists and structures, I'm glad I sat home and just did Brooklyn.
I'm looking forward to Phil next week in Port Chester.
'and as a scene, dancing up on the hill.' christophers comments on philadelphia above. adding to this, I think we can be very shortsighted at times and easily if we do not consider how well they play and how good a concert is overall - having a tremendous amount to do with us, and always has. the band has also always been very open about this in comments at concerts about how great of an audience we are, including last night 'thank you for a great time at the all good festival!'
I truly hope that those of you that can make the PLF concerts coming up - love it and mean it!
>>> Anyone else here agree that this year's summer tour Furthur put on might be the pinnacle (so far)?>>>
No
>>> The band is tired>>>
I only saw NH but they certainly did seem tired. Or just flat. No real oomph to any of it. JK's tone is nearly as shrill as Bobby's half the time, and it's just thin and has no meat to it so on the rare occasion that he steps up to (sort of) rip, it still just doesn't do much. As my best friend and tour buddy said to me yesterday "I just don't like this music without lead guitar."
The 2nd set looks phenomenal but was the band?
We had a little party going on at All Good. Furthur and the audience is what made this festival a success. And yes the band is as hot as a summer day.
agreed this band is smokin hot don't know what you people complaining are listening too?
That is not what I heard in NH. The first set particularly was excellent. Best I have heard them play in couple of years. Boston shows were rockers too.
Regarding the naysayers of John K, it is hardly his burden to satisfy your unrealistic (and often cynical) expectations.
The show updates are much appreciated. I have certainly enjoyed the recordings!
kirley, where are you bud? stick around! its fun here right? and good good people!
anyone have a bead on this being out there on archive.org or anywhere else yet?
Someone noted about the second set: <<sweet>>
I'm going to disagree with or at least modify that sentiment and say that given the way the Grateful Dead played throughout much of the 1980s, a good chunk of such a set would have been a train wreck on most nights.
Had the band been up to it, then I agree. But let's face it: They weren't up to 1969 level in the 1980s.
I've been a fan of Furthur from the beginning, and I have to tell you- there were a couple of highlights from All Good, but in general, the band seemed to lack any real spark. It was....like they played songs, but weren't really present or didn't dig in. The music was kinda flat, the lead guitar was too low, and John looked bored.
They had some fine players and much potential, but for some reason played it too safe- and boring.
There were moments, but I hate to say I was very disappointed. Also- who writes these setlists? They don't seem that thoughtful.
Jerry Garcia playing in the Grateful Dead in the 1980's blew away anything Furthur has ever done, even on his bad nights.
Wow is all I can say. The band was on fire this night.
Cmescia and his lovely wife, my son and I (& his gf) were right up front for the whole show. The Cryptical>DarkStar>St. Stephen>DarkStar>Other One was killer. So killer that our neighbor from VIP died in his chair while watching the stage from his campsite. He was in the last stage of terminal cancer (unbeknownst to us all weekend) and truly loved the Grateful Dead. He did not suffer and is in a better place now. Got to see the boys one last time, and got backstage to meet band members and get t-shirts signed. What a way to go......
Thanks for being an awesome, friendly neighbor, and may your future endeavors be as fruitful as your past.
RIP NORMAN ALLGOOD 2013 VIP
"The music was kinda flat, the lead guitar was too low, and John looked bored.

Andy Falco from the Stringdusters impressed me, not sure if they had planned to bring him out all along or if it was last minute, but he definitely brought a little something extra to the sound. It wasn't quite as "ripping" as other Furthur shows I've seen, but I thought it was very kind. Sometimes slow and sweet can hit the G-Spot just as well.........
Man o man, shit my britches, that was the best show and dream set list that I could have asked for. I was right on the rail in front of bobby. If I had a 12 foot tongue I could have licked his knees. It was a Phil bomb night! Phil ran the show with his bass and didn’t hold back. Phil was the lead and called all the shots. Oh man I just wish they would have rocked that Memphis blues again they teased before uncle johns. Every song played started slow, simple, sweet with the biggest build up and momentum that had me rocking my feet! They are the masters and put every band to shame who tries to play their songs. It was just that good. That Andy guy blew JK out of the water. I love Jeff sliding up and down his keys. Lovelight…..Grace, what a hottie, she is a rocker, she fit in great and all the old men surrounding me had to put their tongues back in their mouths. I have to put my tongue back in my mouth when I see Phil. Lovelight is hands down my new favorite song….I wish they could have impromptu more vocals and bobby rambles. Bobby is soooooooooo good! Man I love him! Okay….this show was rocking at its finest. It went by fast and is now over. Russo you the man!!! I wish the MUSIC NEVER STOPPED………for reals!!!!
cutler introduced DSO and Furthur.......I had the chance to meet and hang out with him.....he is funny, brilliant, and an all around stand up guy!!! The bloody English have wonderful manners and a smart way of telling stories and speaking.....his book is, "you can't always get what you want" A very good read....get IT!!!!!
clutch, kirley is still here didnt know u guys wrote in 2 days after show cool beans.I think everyone needs to be grateful that the boys can still dust off those rusty strings JUST ONE MORE TIME.
I agree that JK looked bored. It was one of those shows where no one really stole the show. The whole band played well. Aside from a couple of flubs by bobby and Phil the show was flawless. Really great and by far the highlight of the entire AllGood festival. A correction on Normans death, he died from a coronary problem according to his brother. He was a really nice guy and seemed to be very happy. When I found him he was facing the stage. It seemed poetic in a way. Glad it wasn't an od or an accident, just a peaceful passing in the night. See you guys at Interlocken. Quit complaining about this band, life is too short. If you don't have anything nice to say...
Listening to this now with morning coffee - sounds great to me!
I was front row and JK did not look bored he was hopping to keep his job. .....Phil stole the show......Phil has a new wrist band......
Good St. Stephen and Dark Star!!

>>Jerry Garcia playing in the Grateful Dead in the 1980's blew away anything Furthur has ever done, even on his bad nights.
What a load of shit. There are some 80's shows that fucking suck ass and are completely un-listenable and embarrassing.
Saw a number of shows in the 80s. None sucked. None. It's folk lore that the GD had that many off nights. Must have been hard for the guys in the band to see Jerry sick but also a fact that Garcia was probably the hardest working guitar player in show biz. Some shows the magic was not there but they were always great and beyond comparison.
I also saw shows in the 80s and some of them really did suck. The band played good shows less than 50% of the time for most of the 80s and less than 30% of the time for the last four years. Furthur plays good shows 70% of the time. They are very consistent if not too much so (meaning they aren't taking as many risks as they could).
Ive seen Furthur 5-6 times and I have to say their RRs shows were beyond description. Furthur may not be as talented perhaps, but I find their music to be more inventive and stylized. Jerry was so charismatic that can never be replaced by any stretch. But I think it's amazing that Bob and Phil carry on and to be honest, I have no idea what other musicians even come close. The secret sauce is still a secret.
Anyone catch phil singing that magical version of half step? He even led during across rio Grande section
I find the 80s suck shows arguments interesting. I am thinking this was not so myself. I mean, the experience at the show could have been bad, the sound could have been bad, or the show may not have been stunning, but sucked? Are there links to some of these shows that sucked? Somewhat on this note, just from my memory, show after show from Furthur got good comments here, often with references to how good Bob was, yet these repeated comments have no impact on the apparent consensus view that Bob sucks. The recent Ratdog shows were good in my view. Maybe not drive across the country to see them good, but better than most anyone else good. Of course, this calls into question repeated Ratdog blastings. The evidence seems to suggest that Bob is consistently good. He redefined slow in the GD canon, but slow is not spelled s u c k. The probability of him standing up is real good, and he gets the lyrics right most of the time. Singing by Weir is often way above the bar, and he is often an amazing guitar player.
