I rarely rip the boys because to still be able to go and listen is phenominal and I am extremely grateful...but im just not digging too much their sound tonight

I dig the Medeski sound on UBC.

Thousands of shows...in various configurations. And we've never heard anything like this. Ever. Love it, hate it, ambivalent...this is why we are who we are.... it's all about the moment. And there's never quite been a moment(s) like this.

And that, my friends, is what it's all about.

what folks tend to forget I think is this...when I saw a dead show good or bad there was nowhere else id rather be...same with further and phil and friends or ratdog... I personally am not digging too much on tonights sound but that's okay because there is nowhere else id rather be...great thing about music is what it does for the individual...fair critique is great just don't expect the era one might prefer and stop comparing the past to the present you just might enjoy what you hear a little more

Phil's music to me is like unravelling an extension cord.

If you go at it forcefully and with too much aggression then it fights you back just as hard. You may still get it unwound but it will be twice as hard and half as satisfying.

You kind of have to be supple with it. let it fall into place and find it's own path and then it starts falling out of the knots like water down a brook.

Sure sometimes it takes a little manhandling to pop free those one or two knots that are holding things up. But the quicker you can return to letting the cord unwind itself the sooner you will get the electricity flowing.

Oh and no matter how neatly you wrapped things up in your mind the last time, when you pull it out again everything is in one big knot again begging to be unraveled.

The SOTM was really reallly good, I'm young and never saw jerry do it, but I thought bob does it justice most times especially the "be with you" thing he does with the effex. gets me goin makes me thankful to be with all of you, especialy my dad. Big props to scofield and phil for trying something new and cool and taking their time to deliver some sets of music like I've never heard from P+F. or furthur. it was way cool, great vibe and the two nights just made it or me thank you phil and family we love you.
