Can anyone confirm the rumor I heard that Philzone.com will be broadcasting the 6/15/04 tonight's Dead show after it is over or is this just B/S, I really want it to be true, but I don't want to get my hopes up. Thanks, for any educated guesses,
Roadawg

Lord Henry..Your band played 8 Miles High last Friday night..Wow..!!..
Phil heard you..!!..
boring
What's boring?
damn...what a set list...i bet they haven't shown all their cards yet either...8 miles high...what a great selection...i wasn't really impressed with the roo list but damn...i am so psyched...i wish i was at redrox last night...phmule's dead...yeah-haaa
I have to question the placement of songs
like EL PASO to open the second set ? WTF is
up with that. west la fadeaway 2 more down the list, WTF is really up with that. Cucamunga is
a great little ditty, but not in the second set.
anyone that indulged last night is probably shaking with fright at this very moment. immediatly plug in a fatty darkstar, it's the best way to come down.
What kind of guitar is Bobby playin'? I thought he was using a telecaster now? The picures I'm seeing don't look like a tele. Anyone know?
that, my friend, is bobby's blue modulus.

It's called art, dude. Why the fuck would they want to play the sameold tired sets exactly the way they did for 30 yrs?? Mixing it up keeps things fresh for everyone involved. Major kudos to the boys for breaking free form the structure! You can rest assured that Jerry is smiling down on last nights show!
What John said----
Keep it fresh, mix it up, Play us new/old tunes in new and inventive ways!
That was the main complaint I had with GD, they got in such a predictable boring rut. It's probably why I enjoy The Dead, Ratdog, PAF so much more then the last few years of the GD.
Again, what John said. This is going to be a great great summer tour.
dude I love Cucamonga! so glad this one's in the bag, El Paso to open! killer- why not? West LA Fadeaway is another great song, no complaints from this side of the aisle, I would've loved it! bring it to St Louis and the Indy cause I'm dying to get 8 miles high!!!
Wow that Jam into Eight Miles High sounds awesome!!
Thanks Taperrob!! This streaming audio up so quickly is making an awful lot of people happy - What a summer it's gonna be!
WAVE THAT FLAG...
WAVE IT WIDE AND HIGH!!!!!!!
Nice job TRob see you tonight after the show. I'll be hanging in the bar waiting for you guys to come home. Should be an interesting sight.
HOLY HELL!!!!!!!!!!!!
DAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT...feeling the tie dyed swirl breezin' across the sky all the way out on Long Island
Summer Tour looks like it's blowing out of the gates with the savage fury...flash that whip boys

SUMMERTIME....WAS WORTH THE WAIT, MY OH MY!
Sounds f'n awesome. Great setlist! Cant wait to catch them. Hmmmm, I wonder how much last minute fares to denver are....
Thanks TR! Any working, coffee streamers out there?
did Warren sing Days Between ?
I had a great time last night- great selection IMO. Though I almost got in a tussle with the guy next to me who was insisting 8 Miles is Derek and the Dominos tune.
My only gripe: Space lasted a little too long, not too interseting. I loved Mickey's get-up on the beam!
Taperrob: How was that wind for taping? It was clipping along there at times...
MattK
...and yeah, WH sang days between. Made me think Joan did it better last year, not that I could do any better...
MattK
What was the crowd like (attendance-wise?) that one hour before showtime photo was pretty empty!
Oh it filled in pretty good, not sure if it was a sellout. We came in late, missed WH opener, and still managed to squeeze in just to the right of the sbd.
Taperrob: What do you look like? I'll buy you a brew on Sunday!
MattK
The show was impressive, not the lite version of last year. Much more anchored with Warren. During West LA when Jeff was jamming he knocked his keyboard of it's stand and to the floor. After a few brief moments of what the fuck do I do know he just got on the floor and picked up jamming where he left off. That new tune Strange whatever is really awesome. Phil after the days between just bombs into this psycho jam incredible. The Ripple had Warren playin slide w/ the effect of a pedal steel, thing of beauty. The Milestone jam after Shakedown was smokin, They left Booby looking lost and 10 measures behind. She Said She said was thumping. These guys are really going to be smoking once the get a few shows under there belts. The Dupree's was a little rough because they tried doing it w/ trading lines within the verses (not just trading verses) if they can work out the details it will be cool. The UJB Playin reprises was a total treat after sooo many years of never catching them. All in all well worth every dime.
>>During West LA when Jeff was jamming he knocked his keyboard of it's stand and to the floor. After a few brief moments of what the fuck do I do know he just got on the floor and picked up jamming where he left off.
Are you f'n serious? that had to be some funny shit to see
outstanding show by the sound of most folks that were there
excellent second setlist
i was much more excited about this year's line up w/ warren... and it's playing out as i thought, a little more gritty/dirty/& NASTY!
Sounds better than the first two shows of last year's run. Attendance tonite could be light. Weather is shitty today.
The best part about the keyboard fiasco was the SIX stagehands frantically trying to get it back up without knocking the rest of the kit over!
It was great though- after it hit the deck, he paused for just a second, then pounced on it, hands and knees- just great!
1st set was awesome. Very jamming with multiple jazz references. Milestones was fully played and Herring ripped it up. After New Potato (I think)there was a Love Supreme jam. 1st set was the highlight of the evening for me. Pre drums was good, but anticlimatic after Set 1. Post drums was stronger than pre-drums. China Rider UJB Playin was tight. The boys have raised the bar high for the rest of the week...bring your slicker!
Warren is a great addition mostly for his voice. Best case in point was the Ramle On Rose where he and Bobby traded off verses. Warrens turn lit the joint up. When Phil ws singing Cold Rain next I was wishing they could have let Warren sing instead. I am NOT complaining, just giving credit to Warren for filling some large shoes.
stormin' pretty good here in colorado today...
I'd spend the whole Red Rocks run standing in the rain if I could be there....
>>> from rob to rob <<< THANKS !
Bring on the cool Colorado rain!
Water is always welcome, especially on one of my non-watering days!
I'm going to Sunday too, hope it's dry...
cold and rainy today, east coast spring tour weather. last night smoked. the first set was absolutely amazing, probably the best dead (jerry/non jerry) set that I've seen since 93 RFK.The 8 miles high was amazing and soooo appropriate, theres a song that has alot of potential to be a total rocker if the boys flush it out, kind of a rounder they go, the faster we get deal. they kinda felt like they never really got into the groove for the second set, but rescued it with the china rider, UJB, playing reprise. POC was a shock, felt like they were headed into dark star, then abruptly spun into that. Taper rob, I dearly want burns of this one, please, I'll even grovel. Had 14th row, sound awesome, see better-Warren makes all the difference in the world. Anyhow, hope the weather clears up, otherwise it'll be a slick day on the old rocks tonite. Peace out.
I finally got around to listening to the stream....that was a great Phil and Friends show.
I love PLQ and all, but when the name says "The Dead" I expect a different flavor.
What Bill (and a few other folks) said - awesome freakin' show, man!!!! And that sez A LOT comin' from me, whose been known to raise a few hackles around here - I've slammed past shows I didn't like in a Bucky-esque manner (see Phil summer '02 tour). The addition of Warren definitely "anchors" them - not easy to describe, but the feeling is there - the show was REALLY long, well over 3 hours, LOTS of great jamming, many things I can't remember now - do recall the Love Supreme tease late in the 1st set - Warren & Bobby trading verses on Dupree's and Ramble was priceless - Bobby sang the 2nd verse of Ramble 1st, but at least he remembered all the words - then Warren sang it again in it's proper place - I think Phil sang a verse of Duprees - they messed up the end of Dupree's and then extended the ending very playfully - wished they had traded verses on Shakedown - Bobby sang them all - Warren singing Days Between was SWEET - the space started out spooky - Jeff playing what I think is some '70's sci fi TV theme (Lost in Space possibly) on his keys - got really mellow - really got the crowd's attention - up to this poiont it was a drunken babble-fest for the most part, kind of a real killer to the otherwise heavy spirituality of the show and setting - I'd really be glad if they didn't serve booze @ this venue (despite my enjoyment of a few microbrews) - also the sound didn't really start kicking in until halfway thru Ramble and then more so during Cold Rain - but the wind was really whipping causing a lot of oscillation - I sat further back than I usually do (Row 49, center), as I arrived just before showtime (sat down in time for Warren to take the stage) - very unusual for me but I'd been trying to make the most of my time here traveling around rather than waiting in line (zzzzzzzzz). I'm sure the weekend warriors will fill the place up on Fri/Sat. I'd still highly recommend the official board cd's over any aud's - the wind oscillation is just too much to overcome, despite any $8,000 rigs and the close locale of the section. This based on last year's cd's - I gave my Aud's away once I got the boards (made w/MBHO's, Lunatec V-3). The 8 miles hi was good but they were still being very tentative @ that point - was waiting for the Phil bomb but none really materialized - I'd say future versions later in the show (ie, out of space) have some awesome potential. The new song is REALLY GOOD - better than anything else that's come along post Jerry - although that's based on only 1 listen - the lyrics seemed very topical and appropriate - about the war, mindless media, crappy politics, something about TV rotting yer brain and throwing it out the window - many traded verses - no Mickey vocals at all - all Warren and Bobby w/Phil backing. Warren really had the crowd eating out of his hands during Days Between - you could hear a pin drop - he kept it fairly short, getting thru all the verses w/o a lot of mid-verse instrumental - good idea, kind of like China Doll - some of Phil's versions were endless (think 7/28/01). At the end Phil and the drummers started ramping the jamming back up - real intense - to me the highlight of the show - Phil was DROPPING BOMBS here!!!! The jam was all over the place - could have been anything - Other One, Playin/Uncle John's reprises - the China Cat transition was for real and flawless - very much a suprise too - nice work!!!! Ripple was really well done - and kudo's to Bobby for keeping his usual fidgeting and technical problems to a minimum - I don't recall seeing him turn around to fiddle with his gear even once the whole show - and no feedback problems during the acoustic numbers - last year's Ripple's were all flawed in one way or another - this one was PERFECT!!! Oh, Shakedown was open-ended - jammed into Milestones - and that was well rehearsed - nice tight musical corners turned - oh, after Playin' @ the end of the 1st set they only jammed about a minute before ending the set - unlike Jones Beach last summer - was suprised when they didn't pick it up @ the beginning of the 2nd - but the unpredictability is nice - this show was kinda like last year's 1st night in that respect - all over the place and unpredictable - my kind of show - last year's 2nd night was a bringdown for me - we shall see this year. Oh, and very nice to get the reprises @ the end - I figured the Rider was it for sure, it had certainly been long enough @ that point - my 1st Uncle John's reprise since 9/6/80 (and only the 2nd I've ever seen!!!!) thanx guys, for once I didn't miss it by 1 show (as I have the last half dozen times or so). I'd have to highly recommend seeing these guys - there's been so much negative stuff said about the Feb show (admittedly unimpressive) and the lineup in general, and almost everyone I know has bugged out of seeing any of these shows (and the last person I was gonna travel with bugged out only 2 weeks ago - leaving me high & dry and almost conteplating bugging out myself) - hell, I'm out here on my own (until the weekend, which will bring a few warriors I know) - had the time of my life driving around Colorado the last few days, though, Glenwood Springs would be it if I had to "Pick a Place to Go" in CO - also got to see Colorado Monument, Black Mesa Top, Black Canyon of the Gunnison, Mesa Verda Nat'l Park, Royal Gorge, wow, just regret not having more time to spend and maybe someone special to spend it with, but hey, that's life. OK, apologize for the rambling nature of this review but its all stream of consciousness as I sit @ this corporate coffee shop in downtown Denver surrounded by suits in my unshowered unshaved t-shirt and shorts state - bring on the freaks!!! Was hoping to spend today exploring downtown but it's too cold & rainy - think I'll go catch a nap . . .
Oh, and good hangin' with ya, Bill, maybe see ya on Sun!
And oh, yeah, they were pretty much in to The Wheel before 8 Miles High - the guys in front of me had already written it down in their setlist book . . .
Nice sideshow...
anyone happen to have a poster from the show they are willing to sell left mine in the rental car!
really really want it
hey sideshow, sweet review
hope you're enjoying tonite's sets as i type!
A friend leaned over last night and said to me: "Damn, it's almost like this Dead could get up and kick your ass again."
Amen-- and Bobby played really, really beautifully all night.
>>Are you f'n serious? that had to be some funny shit to see
Listen to the crowd on the disc--the place went apeshit during Jeff's jam! He went over to the B3 after the keyboard went down. Sure as shit the B3 isn't going anywhere!
Me and everyone else around was laughing hysterically when Jeff knocked his keyboard over... but he hung with it, and belted out a smokin' solo from the floor.. and I'm the last guy in the world to go out of my way to commend Chamenti.
Sick show, especially for so early in the tour.
Oh yeah - El Paso was beautiful. Sung and played softly, very nice harmonies.
Some great pics from the 6.15.04 show. thanks!
anybody have a copy to trade????

I am listening to it for the first time right now. Hearing Milestones brings me back treasured memories of 8/19/04!
Listening to the great New Potato Caboose.
Man, I love this song. :-)
