Phil Lesh, Eric Krasno, Joe Russo Play Surprise Jazz and Colors Set in Central Park
Phil Lesh, Eric Krasno and Joe Russo surprised a few lucky fans when they played a quick, unannounced set in Central Park this afternoon as part of the Jazz and Colors festival. The trio set up on a road near the park’s Sheep Meadow at around 1pm, with Lesh and Krasno hooked into small battery-powered amps and Russo manning a limited kit.

The set—which lasted a little under 30 minutes—primarily consisted of jazz-style improvisation, though the group also put an instrumental spin on The Beatles’ “Get Back.”

Just a few people were present when the short performance began, though the crowd grew substantially over the course of the set. Many more arrived after the show was over, having been alerted by their friends or via social media. Phil Lesh will perform in the city once more tonight, as he wraps up his theme-filled five-night run at the Best Buy Theater.
