Fun show. 1 too many guitars and drums for my tastes, but it's always a treat to see Phil in the Grate Room.
Thanks for the set list Spencer. Good to see you, Mj, Brent and others.
I agree that the many instruments made the music pretty heavy, which was sonically amazing some times, and a bit too much at others.
Seriously rockin' bar band last night.
The relatively rare Grate Room Sugar Magnolia was over-the-top and the highlight of the show. As one wise Zoner said - that song alone was worth the price of admission.
Great to see Ross and Grahame maturing in front of our eyes. Last night, Ross wasn't necessarily his usual "Motherfuckin'" self, but a much more complimenting, slow, and sinewy team guitarist, squeezing more out of notes than I recall hearing before (and his tone was more clear in the mix, not as buzzy to my ears). Oh, he also shredded a bit as well.
Glad to have Danny Click in the rotation (if he wasn't before) - he's got a great sound from his guitar (to these ears). Some gut-wrenching solos.
And that other Danny on keys is a ton of fun with the Hammond B3, too.
Interesting stage setup, with Phi's rig center stage between the two drum kits.
Good show for those who wanted more non-GD related tunes. And lots of sandwiches, esp on the front end of the show - you can tell the kids had fun with the set list.
I thought this was a great show. Really exceeded my expectations. Danny Click is an awesome blues guitarist, and seemed the elder statesman (next to Phil of course) here. Lots of fun tunes, really enjoyed the Roadhouse Blues (had a reprise after the Speedway not listed above), Neil Young/CSNY covers, and I always loved the Traveling Wilburys. The GD tunes were very strong, especially the St. Stephen, Other One, and never ending Sugar Magnolia. Phil was beaming ear to ear and having a blast. It's just a treat to be able to go here, enjoy the entire experience, and see such great music up close and sounding good.
