That's a Bozo talking if I ever heard one. A true idiot wouldn't be so self aware...
Put together 2nd set from 1st night and 1st set from the 2nd night--and you got a perfect show.
This two night run was an absolute blast!
Joe Russo is a BEAST. I can't take my eyes off him--he's so much fun to watch play. And he plays this music like no other drummer. He leads jams. He builds dynamics. He plays with a punk/jazz edge. For me--I don't think any drummer is as perfect a foil for Phil as Molo. He'll always be my favorite drum-partner for Phil. But this cat is amazing and injects so much fire into this music. A beast!
Jackie Greene has clearly developed into quite a guitar player. He's always been a stellar vocalist on this material. Warren really adapts his playing style to fit this band. He's such a versatile player--while always sounding like himself. Medeski plays great stuff on organ, piano and electric keys (especially night 2).
Phil sure knows how to put a band together. Each of these guys brings their own thing and Phil gives them a lot of space. They're playing a lot of GD music--but it sounds fresh and vital. This is not a cover band and nobody's aping Jerry on stage (in this band). There's a ton of group improvisation going on here. Yep--that's Phil & Friends.
The audiences were HIGH energy, up dancing both nights--and well behaved. My favorite combination!
They played almost 3.5 hours of music both nights. You just don't see bands doing that any more. Boy--I sure had a good time. Come back soon, Phil!

Woe. You just blew my mind. And blew my cover.
I guess we're all Bozos on this bus.

They did an incredible jam during Low Spark, I think it was the highlight of the night.
The sound in the Gilman Opera House was warm and sweet.
